Mate cmon, this is a great mod, and i have nominated for MOTW... but somethings wrong.

I haven't tried using both (disabling on certain rooms, and enabling the 1st post to be nominated). Is it this what you mean ?

We have this option:
Individual Forums On Which This Mod Must Be Disabled

But when you want to run the Mod in only 1 individual forum you have to give a big list of individual forums on which the mod must be disable.

Maybe an option where we could choose only the "individual forum on wich the mod must be enable" could be useful in this situation.

Something like (the 2 options in the settings):

Individual Forums On Which This Mod Must Be Disabled
Specify the list of forum(s) ID(s), | separated (e.g.: 1|2|3) | Enter the value '0' to have this option disabled.

Latest version is 1.21 as i stated. Downloaded, and inplemented.
We have changed the cron php file, and reuploaded.

Have also for secondary measure re run the cron..

Still changes Nothing.

Still populates week28 thread with week 29 poll.
Still does not post in winners postbit that they have won totw.
Still has for some reason given 2 users the same WIN status for one week, even tho poll results totally different.


I am marking this uninstalled, until, ppl that have run this for more than one week experience the same issues, and perhaps these items which are crucial to this kind of mod are addressed and fixed.

3. Re-import the product
4. Adjust the settings in the ACP

I think that a clean install will be the best think to do. :( Mea Culpa. The cron file didn't function as intended during the transition between week 27 to week 28

Followed full instructions, and upgraded to v 1.22

Week 29 looks ok at the moment.

In the process of uninstall and reinstall etc and the hiccups, all data and votes for week 28 are dead and gone.

Shame as our members will feel slightly concerned f their votes are pissing in th wind.

For testing purposes may I please make a suggestion !

Allow a 1 hr test version for this.

Whereby we can condense a totw to a toth , for testing purposes, to see if everything is propogating properly.

Then reset to totw afterwards, and delete any corresponding threads. This would mean that new totw would have to overwrite the week field, as this would have already been crunched by test week.

Do you know what I mean?

1. duplicate entry into week 28/29 now seems to be fixed.
2. all previous weeks entries and voting has disappeared. ( hence a test acct ) as 150 votes, on varying threads etc, over the course of a week, only to be lost in upgrade etc, is gonna piss so many ppl off, and lose the board credibility.

Just an update, I am close to having a completed poll module created for use with CMPS.

Still a little testing needed, but so far it works.

I think it will just take a new module upload, and maybe a couple of the cmps poll template tweaks for esthetic purposes.

It seems in testing that nominated posts displayed do not necessarily follow forum permissions by member group.

IE,...

If a nominated forum for some reason ends up in the trash bin or moved to a private or staff forum, the forum title as well as the votes still display publically on the totm poll topic.

Can "follow forum/member group permissions" be a feature added in the future for topics moved later to forums where member groups have no permissions? (I know you can specify which forums to allow/deny in the acp, but it would make sense to filter by member group permission masks also)

Have tested it a daily cron and the transition seems to work well.

Good suggestion TimberFloorAu. Will proceed as suggested with the cron hourly test later today.

The previous week entries were damaged during the transition Sunday/Monday.

To fix the link to the week 29 poll, edit the table "nominate_topic_thread". It contains one entry with values (postid, threadid, pollid) for the current nomination thread. But, it's better to do a clean install.

Have tested it and saw that vBulletin automatically handles forum permissions. The user following a link through the poll will receive a message telling him/her that "...he/she do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:..." :)

Don't know how it's done on the CMPS side. Keep us posted

First, you must locate the "template hook" that you wish to use for the "nominate button". Let's call it "yourtemplatehook".
Secondly, find the location within that template, where you wish to have the "nominate button" displayed. This location will be in between pieces of existing html code. Let's say preceeded by "prevHTMLLocationCode". Ensure that this piece of html code is unique (appears only once) in that template.
Thirdly, open the product file "product-nominate_topic.xml" using WordPad for example and do the following:


1. Scroll down until you reach the plugins section
2. In the "global_setup_complete" plugin, add this line just after the "<![CDATA[":
$vbulletin->templatecache['yourtemplatehook'] = str_replace("prevHTMLLocationCode", "prevHTMLLocationCode".$vbulletin->templatecache['nominate_topic_button'], $vbulletin->templatecache['yourtemplatehook']);

3. In the "postbit_display_complete" plugin, change this line:

eval('$template_hook[postbit_controls] .= " ' . fetch_template('nominate_topic_button') . '";');

with:

eval('$template_hook[yourtemplatehook] .= " ' . fetch_template('nominate_topic_button') . '";');

To fix the link to the week 29 poll, edit the table "nominate_topic_thread". It contains one entry with values (postid, threadid, pollid) for the current nomination thread. But, it's better to do a clean install.

I did do a clean install. I fixed the link issue, now where do I enter the timestamp? I tried nominate_topic, but it still says 1969

Have tested it and saw that vBulletin automatically handles forum permissions. The user following a link through the poll will receive a message telling him/her that "...he/she do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:..."

Don't know how it's done on the CMPS side. Keep us posted

The problem I have with the member group permission masks is basically with the totm poll topic created by the modification, not with cmps.

A scenario if you will,...

1 - totm topic created by cron for the month, as expected by proper operation.

2 - someone nominates a topic that lets say is just spam. (dont ask me why, just assume it happens)

3 - staffer sends nominated topic to trash bin or staff forums for some reason, but basically nominated topic gets taken out of public or normal member view.

4 - guest/member views totm topic with poll results, and "hidden" topic that is now normally unavailable (yes vb will block access of course by permission masks), but the topic title still shows for all to see.

Basically I was wondering if the modification that generates the poll and displays, can be made to utilize the vb member group permission masks to filter topic titles (as well as links) to the nominatedpolls links. I know I am asking for coverage of a fairly rare condition, but there are occasions where the title ought not be publically displayed for the community benefit. I just am looking for an automated functionality to member group permission mask topic title filtering, to prevent from having to adjust the poll choices manually in the event it is necessary.

Was thinking that the permission masks for vb ought to be utilized whilst generating the view of the totm topic poll, or at least the topic list in the poll may be refreshed using permission masks on the next cron job.

Members should vote for the best topic (post/thread, etc...) not for their friends or for people they are familiar with. If they start voting for their friends, your should invalidate the poll. May be we can add an option to disqualify a post from the nomination?

There is already an option not to display user names on nominations. :)
Thanks for the reply! I was puzzled by my own name, which appeared by testing your addon independent from the option-switch (showing usernames on or off).
I agree, that social relationships shouldn?t influence the nominating-behaviour, but on a little board with almost no "anonymous" users this can?t be prevented totally. So the option to hide the usernames of the nominators is very useful and already implemented, as I now catched.

Have you done the installation properly?

After a proper installation, the following columns must be present in the user table:

nominate_topic_user_amount, nominate_topic_nominated_posts, nominate_topic_nominated_times, nominate_topic_nominated_awards

An Unknown column 'nominate_topic_nominated_awards' in 'field list' indicates that the installation was not done properly.

:) You can use the submission time as timestamp when a nomination is submitted:

$timestamp = TIMENOW;

Or

Hover on the forum name where you want to have the "nomination thread" automatically created and you should see on the status bar something like:

...yourwebsite/yourboarddirectory/forumdisplay.php?f=nn

nn is a forum ID.

If you want to have the Mod active only on one forum, there is an option for it:
"Unique Forum On Which This Mod Must Be Enabled"

On all remaining forums, you will not see the nomination button.

2.
If you want to select more than one forum on which the Mod must be enabled, i.e. you want to have it disabled on other forums, there is an option:
Individual Forums On Which This Mod Must Be Disabled


Do not mix the two options!!! If a unique forum option is specified, the second option will be over-ruled.

The postparsed table of vBulletin is updated when a new post is made, when a post is edited/updated, as well as when a post is viewed, if a record doesn't exist for that post in the table.

See the vB ACP -> vBulletin Options -> Server Settings and Optimization Options -> Cached Posts Lifespan option:

Posts are normally stored with bbcode tags etc. in the same form as the user posted them with so that it may be edited later, and then parsed at display time. By caching them, they are parsed at post time (instead of display time) into the HTML they will be displayed in and stored separately from the pre-parsed posts. This results in a faster display on threads, since the posts do not have to be parsed at display time.

It is automatic. It will display the award winners and posts awarded at the end of the contest.

One thing that may be useful...... in standard vB polls I've got it set to show the poll thread as a new post if someone votes (without posting a message). As that settign is in place it should be recognised in the Mod and if a new nomination is made, or a nomination seconded, then the nomination thread should be shown as a new thread.

Of course this could go further and be enhanced for the mod to make a post into the thread stating that a new nomination of XXX has been added - that would be useful. If you could consider for the to-do list that would be useful and appreciated :)

If you want to have the Mod active only on one forum, there is an option for it:
"Unique Forum On Which This Mod Must Be Enabled"

On all remaining forums, you will not see the nomination button.

2.
If you want to select more than one forum on which the Mod must be enabled, i.e. you want to have it disabled on other forums, there is an option:
Individual Forums On Which This Mod Must Be Disabled


Do not mix the two options!!! If a unique forum option is specified, the second option will be over-ruled.

The postparsed table of vBulletin is updated when a new post is made, when a post is edited/updated, as well as when a post is viewed, if a record doesn't exist for that post in the table.

It is automatic. It will display the award winners and posts awarded at the end of the contest.

It's very possible that your postbit/postbit_legacy template was manually modified and the str_replace(...) function that I am using is hitting the wrong location.

Why would thanks be pointless, with this mod?

Sometimes, an initial threadstarter creates a good post, and someone creates a better reply.. hence the thanks hack is very very worthy.

However, sometimes, to go one step further is to nominate the thread for totw or totm but not have to say thanks. So you have the choice, thanks, nominate, or thanks and nominate

Pretty bloody neat in my opinion.. we have until sunday to watch feedback on this latest release before we ugrade.

Try the following fix by MissKalunji:

Open the product file using WordPad for example.

Search for: nominate_topic__stamps_box
Replace with: nominate_topic_stamps_box

Let me know if it fixes your problem.

One quick fix on the message. Typo error fixed for the next release.

Open the product file and search for:
nominate_topic_thread__message

Replace with
nominate_topic_thread_message

Re-import the product.

Allow the thread Owner ID a privilege for using BBCodes

forget to run the cron file manually for the first time so that the "nomination thread" be created..

I will make a clip video of setting this up set by step if you need and send you the link..

The file "upload/admin/nominate_topic_admin.php" must be updated.

At the bottom of the file replace:
$vbulletin->db->query_write("DELETE FROM postparsed WHERE `postid` = '$nominationthread_postid'");

with this fix by TsirhCitna:

Actually the line should be:
$vbulletin->db->query_write("DELETE FROM ". TABLE_PREFIX ."postparsed WHERE `postid` = '$nominationthread_postid'");

It's working now with the table prefix added.

Shortly, I will release an updated version containing the latest feedback implemented.

:) You can open the cron file "upload/includes/cron/nominate_topic_cron.php"

delete the 15th line where you see the following:

echo "Time Now: $now<br>";

Save the file and upload it back. Nothing else needs to be done.

You can leave the file as it is, that line of code on "echo ..." was there just for testing purpose. It simply displays the time when the cron file is executed. :)

I love this mod, it is an amazing bundle of scripts.

Something I noticed,..

I went to delete a totm poll and deleted the poll.
Then I removed all the votes on the only thread that the current one had.

But now, after running cron, I tried to renominate for testiong purposes the same poll I had in the first one. The button was available.

But I cant get a poll generated.
Am I missing something?

Also, and not to beat a dead horse, but I would love if the poll feature followed vb member permission mask conventions for the viewer. (would also apply if we had staff only totms that members should not see titles of).

But this mod rocks and I look forward to helping woprk out any persistant bugs that may crop up.

In vBulletin 3.6.8, you must manually add a column 'votetype' to the standard vBulletin 'pollvote' entry, as that column did not exist in vB 3.6.8.

Here is the MySql command to execute from your PhPMyAdmin:

ALTER TABLE pollvote ADD `votetype` INT( 10 ) UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL"

From your Hall of fame page, I will conclude that those seem to be results on the cycle time "Sunday 29th June -> Sunday 6th July" when the cron file didn't work well.

Since you are now running the Mod on a Monthly cycle time, there are no results yet for the TOTM.

I will check why the settings are been reverted. (may be due to the fact that I have been adding new options and changing their position??? But, will definitely check that).

From the "Search Menu -> Find All Post Nominated" you can find all posts that have been nominated. You can also find user's posts that have been nominated from the postbit popup. :)

ok still testing and offering more details that i encountered.

ok last night the nomination gave me the results and posted the winner which is fine and is doing what is suppose to do.But i notice if i don't check off (Disable Nominating Topics Not Made During Proceeding Month) to "yes" and if a members nominates again within the same month it creates another thread for that same month.Instead of that post going to the new thread ,it goes back to the old thread that was closed and the winner that was chosen already. hope this is clear to understand.

So what i did is check that to yes and it disabled it till the next month.

this is the db error that i received.

Database error in vBulletin 3.6.9:

Removing the "Nomination Thread" is not enough, since a table containing information on that thread is still available in the database.

You should a clean install; i.e. un-install the product and re-import it. Then run the cron file.

I didn't foresee this situation and I will update the cron file accordingly, so that it updates or creates a new thread whenever the previous one has been deleted for whatever reason.

Will post it likely in about 12 to 14 hours, as I will also add an option for sending PM, automatically, to award winners at the end of the contest, and test everything.

Update 14/07/2008 in cron file
I noticed that some code instructions fail to work properly depending on the PhP version been used.

If you are running the v 1.35 TOTW on a weekly basis and if for some reason, your cron file failed to work and create a new nomination thread on Sunday 13, July 2008, please use the attachment "updated-cron-14-07-2008.zip". The following instructions are given in there.

1. Upload this file in the corresponding folder on your server (yoursite/yourforum/includes/cron/)

2. Run it manually to close the previous week poll. ACP -> Scheduled Task Manager -> Nominate Weekly Or Monthly Topic Mod -> Run

3. Open this file once more and search for these lines

// Delete this after having run the cron once.
$createNewThread = 1;
// End deletion

4. Delete that part and save the file

5. Re-upload the saved file in the corresponding folder on your server (yoursite/yourforum/includes/cron/)

As for the display "August" or "July", I gave a reply in a previous post and added an option in the product whereby you can select to have displayed "August" or "July" in the poll title.

If week 30 is now propagating and week 29 is closed, it is correct.

On PhP 4.48 and PhP 4.3.11. I have noticed that a createNewThread variable initialised is not functioning properly in 4.48 while it is working fine on 4.3.11.

In a forecoming version I will also change the cron starting time from midnight to 01:00AM, as I had an ambiguity regarding the day of the week at midnight; i.e. at 00:00 (24:00), which day is it? It should not matter from a "computer" view.

Option to automatically add points to award winners? reputation at the end of the contest (addition v 1.4)
If the current ?Nomination Thread? is deleted for whatever reason, a single manual run of the cron file will suffice to create a new thread, avoiding a clean install of the product.

ACP -> Nominate Topic -> Nominate Topic Settings -> Forum (Specify the ID of the forum that will receive threads containing results of the nomination contest)

Save the settings and run the cron file manually to have the "Nomination Thread" created.

ACP -> Scheduled Tasks -> Scheduled Task Manager -> Nominate Weekly Or Monthly Topic Mod -> Run Now

I had this issue too.

Turns out, I was uploading in ASCII whereas it should be uploaded in binary. Once I'd uploaded them again, confirming each (one by one) was in binary, the images worked fine.

Do the following and let me know what's the result:
ACP -> Nominate Topic -> Refresh Poll

The "Nomination Thread" reports the voting status and I didn't allow users to vote directly on the "Nomination Thread". :)

I am completely unable to install this - the plugin upload times out whether I upload it via the plugin manager or if I first upload it to my xml folder and import from there. Any ideas?

I am not getting the Nominate images to show. For some reason the code has disabled them:
