Hi Josh,

Login to your vBulletin Admin CP, go to vB Options, find Zoints Profile Options, and turn off Automatic Template Edits. This will turn off the Zoints related edits put into your forums, such as the navbar addition and if elected, the posbit link. To re-enable whatever edits you want (if any), refer to the readme file found with the vbulletin product package.

Hi Brew,

I don't believe it's impossible but I would recommend having a good deal of coding knowledge to do so if it's possible. Since the member made modifications forum we have is a bit slow, you might want to open a thread up at network.zoints.com to see if anyone else has ever integrated those features over to the options in Zoints Local or just have the knowledge to help you out.

Could you please instead open up a ticket at network.zoints.com with the problem described and a link to your forums and I will notify our engineers of it. They might not be able to give you step by step instructions as I don't believe any of them speak Russian, but hopefully they can point you in the right direction.

The photo album is a placeholder for a future album application by us (as we weren't satisfied with what was included with previous releases) but there is also integration with Photo Plog I believe on dev.zoints.com.

I can't speak specifically as to Zoints Local working with Yahoo Hosting or not, but you do have to have the ability to CHMOD a folder or two to use it, so if you can't do that with your current hosting you will not be to have a functioning Zoints I'm afraid.

It would be easiest if you would open up a ticket at network.zoints.com with a temporary admin account created with style permissions (so I can correct the navbar issue). After that, I will poke around a bit more to figure out the profile linking issue.

In your ticket, just note that Reid is set to help you as I know both of the issues and will be able to post how they were resolved for your benefit (should you need to re-install in the future.)

Hopefully we'll get you up and running.

Small problem with the install which I can not seem to figure out. I installed it in the /z dir as directed, but now when you click on a users profile i lost all of the images on the header and the links in in the add the forum url.

IE when clicking on the forum home link:

http://forumurl.com/z/www.forumurl.com/index.php

Now if I click any other links it will add the http://forumurl.com/z/

Not suree if this is a simple configuration issue. Any ideas?

Typically, this is a style problem. Its been my experience that when I explain this, something gets lost in transaltion and lengthens the process, so if you can open up a ticket with a temporary admin account created (with styles permissions) and provided that in the ticket.... I should be able to get you up and going.

I apologize about the late response but Zoints Local does not support phrases, it is instead hardcoded into the files I believe. I am not the most knowledgeable on the subject though so I would recommend searching network.zoints.com or posting a thread there to see if someone (be it staff or member) who is a bit more in the know on it can give you further help.

Yes, you can disable any of the additional pages through the Zoints Admin Settings.

And unless I missed it, I really have not seen any details as to what the social networking component will or will not provide. Obviously with the vBulletin name attached to it, I am sure they will put out a quality addition, but I can almost guarantee that vBulletin and Zoints will both have features unique to their product. Speaking from pure speculation, I would have to imagine the vBulletin system would differ considerably in structure as a Zoints profile is very different from a vBulletin profile (the one you see today.) Sorry I can't be of more assistance, but I don't know enough about the vBulletin Social Networking component to respond fairly to you.

No problem at all.

As for the authorizing code, typically you would have to go through that step but I do believe there is a chance I could do it for you if you messaged me here or at network.zoints.com. I would have to get the live forum information (forum title, forum description, tags and directory to be listed in... the last three if you would want your forum placed in our directory of forums) as well as the development forum information (so I could locate it to edit it.)

Ads do not come with Zoints Local. Links to Zoints.com are included, but there is nothing esoteric like the traditional thought of what an advertisement is. As for being on our servers, member profiles are not stored in our servers from Zoints Local. You would be connected, thus why we are a network, but if your forum closed down or you removed your forum from Zoints, we would have no more access to your profiles than we do right now (which is zero.) Zoints.com members can search for members in the network and find links to forum members, which only helps forums, but they are simply that, links.

For most styles, it does pick up the style in the full form. Now extremely complicated styles (which are rare by what I mean) can be a bit tricky, but often time it just involves optimizing the style's code.

As for brand interference, we want to assure members of their privacy and it is a one time message that I haven't heard from any owners (or members of my own site) to be a great detraction.

But like I said before, Zoints is not for everyone and if there is a better solution for you, you should take it. Thanks for the consideration regardless girlspeedo and I hope you find what you need for your forum.

We strongly encourage all current users of Zoints Local to upgrade to version 1.0.4. This release solely corrects a few potential security flaws we recently discovered. It is not the same as our upcoming feature-rich release mentioned in August. To upgrade, please overwrite the modified files mentioned in the upgrade.txt file located in the zip file under the latest release (1.0.4)

No, when upgrading those files are not needed (they are just needed for the initial installation).

Also, to note, one of our coders included some code by mistake from the 1.1 version of blocks.php to the 1.04 version which does cause an small error. Please download the latest copy and just upload the blocks.php file again from the latest file. This only applies to those who have already installed 1.04.

I have noted that with Zoints Local, if a member changes their username on the forum itself, the reflected name change is not seen in the Zoints Profile. If you manually try to insert the correct name into the URL, and hit enter, it tells you that the profile you're looking for cannot be found.

Otherwise, this is a great product.

You need to login to your ZAdmin, click Members, search for the profile and then change the url token to reflect what it should be with the new name. If this does not work properly for you, open up a ticket at network.zoints.com

That was the bug I mentioned earlier. When did you download Maximal, before or after that post (where I noted the bug)? If it was before, try downloading again and re-uploading the file as specified above. If it doesn't work let me know and I'll take a look.

I have two questions:

1. Is/can the communities created by zoinks be limited to an individual website, or does it have to link out to the others?

2. Is the Zoinks logo and copyright displayed? If it is, are there options to remove it?

Please open up a ticket at network.zoints.com. We have verified the downloads and the fix seems to have solve the issues that arose, so knowing that we'll need to take a look at your site if you are an exception to the fix. Create a temporary FTP account and provide those details in the ticket.

After installing the zoint, how to let my members know about it? because i think it is not intergrate to the user cp...
Zoints should be integrated into your navbar, if it's not consult the readme file for the vBulletin Product to do it manually, that is one way to make the system accessible. But by default, Zoints does not integrate into your User CP, if you wanted to you could edit your templates to include links to their profile so while the editing wouldn't happen in the User CP, they would at least go there for the information like they did with the vB Profile. I can help you with that if you want.

One other option is to do like I mentioned above but to leave the other "Edit Profile" link as "Edit vB Profile" (so you won't confuse the members too much.

You could also create an announcement about Zoints Local for your members.

AS for the double profile links, do you have automatic template edits on? If so, either remove the manually added profile code you did or turn off the template edits (I would only recommend that if you want to manually insert the rest of the template edits.)

yes i re-downloaded the 1.0.4a file yesterday and replaced the blocks.php.. it still gave me the error.. So, i found the 1.0.3 version of the block.php file and replaced the 1.0.4 one.. works perfect now

yes i re-downloaded the 1.0.4a file yesterday and replaced the blocks.php.. it still gave me the error.. So, i found the 1.0.3 version of the block.php file and replaced the 1.0.4 one.. works perfect now
You really need to open up a ticket. The blocks.php file is the reason for the security patch and thus why it was needed so that file needs to be replaced. If you open up a ticket, one of our engineers can hopefully sort it out with the newest version for you.

There are two download links here for Zoints Local, one for the Zoints Local files itself and one for the vBulletin product entitled "zointsprofile 2.1.4.zip" that product allows you to have it so when a profile is clicked, it is automatically redirected to the Zoints profile. If you haven't downloaded it yet, do so and simply install the product (you can manage the options from vB Options in the Admin CP.)

As for integrating the profiles into each other, a lot of the elements are integrated into Zoints, such as the user's avatar, post count, post and thread links, join date, and for those that it works for, the custom field block (that is at dev.zoints.com.) And you can always turn on the Forum Profile page in the ZAdmin so that users can click to see the vB Profile still from the Zoints Profile (like if a user neglected to update his AIM/YIM/Etc info onto Zoints Local.)

There is not currently a German translation that I know of, but I would suggest opening a thread at network.zoints.com and seeing if anyone from there or here would be interested in working with you on a translation if you have the skills to do so and the time. We would like to look into translations in the future, but right now admittedly it's a lower priority for us.

The profil system (admin cp) plugin is available in german. Also I have translated parts of the entire system. As Reid mentioned translations don't have top prioraty right now but be sure I'll look into the german translation in the future.

I followed the instructions as expected. Both, installation & upload worked fine. But: If i klick on any user in the forum, i get a 404.
The url is NOT "domain/forum/z/user" but
"domain/forum/member.php?userid=3"

Is that supposed to happen and if so perhaps your upgrade text should mention that for people upgrading from 1.04 o 1.04a they don't run the upgrade routine?

Whether or not Zoints Local is for you and your forums though, I hope you find the appropriate solution for your site.

I believe Danny answered you on network.zoints.com but for those who might be wondering the same thing, I'll answer it here. If you are already on 1.04 (ie the old download with the permissions bug), ignore the upgrade version part as that really only applies to 1.03 and before. Just upload the new files and you should be good to go.

Samy, you are in no way 'held hostage' by using Zoints. Hundreds of forums have used Zoints for almost an entire year now (it will be once November is over) and we are very up front of what we expect from those who use the software and that is to honor the way we have it set up (with the network connection.) Should Zoints ever stop, the software would continue to function outside of the links to Community and other Zoints.com links. Like I said, Zoints isn't for everyone but we do our best to release quality additions to the forum community at a level of support higher than many paid products, and all we ask is for the mutual respect back.

Zoints Global is a different system from Local, with more interaction from Zoints.com and it was once available. While we are focusing on the next version of Zoints Local, we do plan to look into bringing Zoints Global back out so check on network.zoints.com for updates on that from time to time if interested.

We really don't offer integration services, but perhaps I'm misunderstanding you. Expect a PM shortly Samy.

What's with all this upgrading :( there's a final version programmed.
I am not for sure what you mean by a final version being programmed iogames, but we do offer one of more complex mods in it's backend structure on vBulletin and problems do arise which create the need for additional updates. We would love for the first 1.04 to be the final version of that update but we have to deal with any problems that arise due to conflicts and whatnot to provide full functionality of Zoints Local to both forum owners and their members. 1.04 was to correct the security problem and 1.04b corrects some rare instances of permissions problems due to that plus some other bugs making it a beneficial upgrade and one where all you need to do (assuming you're on 1.04) is update the files mentioned in the upgrade.txt file, so really it is only an upgrade that might take a minute or two of your time.

Zoints Profile System 2.1.4 is for the vB Product and integration and has not been updated so you do not need to worry about that.

And it says you're on 1.04, you're fine. Or if you go to:

And it says you are running 1.04 and that no upgrade is present, you're fine. The upgrade part is only meant for users on 1.03 or before. You do need to download the latest version of Zoints Local from here and update the new files as mentioned in the upgrade.txt file. As for your problem, the current version shouldn't be affecting users to comment as it didn't happen on any test forums or live forums, is the problem solved by upgrading? If not, open up a ticket at network.zoints.com and we'll take a look for you Mrdby to get you up and running.

Hey Jay, thanks for the words. As for removing the account, go to your Zoints Installation (/z), click settings, and then click Zoints Admin Area. From there click Members, search for the username of the account, click the name, and then check "Close" and save.

To download third party blocks, please visit dev.zoints.com

And that is correct, there is one page within vB Options for Zoints Local and the rest of the management of Zoints occurs through the ZAdmin.

As for the hack, I would make a post here (in the appropriate forum) and at dev.zoints.com looking for someone to take it on as a paid project. You could also consider messaging a few of the bigger block developers at dev.zoints.com to see if they are interested.

Hmm I don't think that is a good solution since accessing the member profile should be always possible as a registered member. Would it be a big work to implement something like I mentioned above? I am so in love with the zoints profile and really don't want to deactivate that thing. I had in mind that this system would motivate users to be an active member in the whole community and don't just read...

Nope, it's pretty much all or nothing. But you could set up promotions to be very attainable, like 10 posts, and if you have an automatic welcome PM you could inform the user of being able to access these profiles in 10 posts. Outside of that, there is not much you can do.

Well Jay, if you want to really start learning a bit.... I'll start you off and see if you can't suit it to your forum. Now this is it in the vB navbar form and not how it is on the profiles, if you want that, I might be able to set you up with it though. To do it as I am describing, a second navbar, login to your vB Admin CP, click Style & Templates, click Style Manager, find the style you want to edit and click Edit Templates. From there, click Navigation/Breadcrumb Templates and then click navbar.

Now you're style could differ from mine, but look for something like <!-- / nav buttons bar --> which is signaling the end of the navbar code, after that put this in but adjust the url to fit your forum's of course, and if you want the link text to be different, feel free to adjust it as needed. I tested this on my forum and it worked fine, if you have troubles, you can open up a ticket at Zoints.com and I'll try to sort it out for you Jay.
(Also, you can change the "thead" to "tcat" or "tfoot" if you like the color/image the style has there better.)

Please refer to the readme file in the above zip for which folders to chmod. Also, since you move servers a lot, you might have some configuration troubles (unless you adjust that as you move, since Zoints calls to the server path it was installed from.)

Hi Josh,

Login to your vBulletin Admin CP, go to vB Options, find Zoints Profile Options, and turn off Automatic Template Edits. This will turn off the Zoints related edits put into your forums, such as the navbar addition and if elected, the posbit link. To re-enable whatever edits you want (if any), refer to the readme file found with the vbulletin product package.

bc3tech, the instructions are indeed within the readme file for the zointsprofile-2.1.4 zip, I just checked. But perhaps the zip is not working with the extractor you have. Either way, I have copied the instructions from the readme that should help you (it also addresses the vB Advanced issue.)

i'm talking about how you can show profile fields from a vBulletin profile (for instance, Location) in a postbit... is there a way to pull the Location information from a Zoints profile and show that in a postbit? or plans to make such functionality available?

yes please as if you look at many vB installations, at minimum the user's location is in their profile information and shown on a postbit. i'd like to bring that functionality to the table while using Zoints as my profile system.

I installed it, but it clashes with both my color scheme and layout. It made a 1/4 of the upper part of my forum graphics disappear.

While it's a good idea, it could use some serious improvement. I ended up having to remove this because I was unhappy with the end result.

You can define profile styles that will match your forum's scheme. And as for the graphics disappearing (in the style), typically that is due to how the style is coded and not to Zoints. If you open up a support ticket, I'd be glad to check it out and give a hand with it. Zoints can't work for every custom style and look out of the box, that is impossible, but with a little time and effort I haven't seen a style that didn't look at home with a Zoints profile.

I've read this entire thread and this issue was never addressed. I have the same problem.

My users are not going to be very enthusiastic about using zoints unless they have a full WYSIWYG editor. What they DONT want is a standard editor where their post editing is cluttered up by a bunch of ugly BB code.

I don't know what the solution could be other than the engineers coding a version with that included. I am assuming there was some difficulties which made it impossible to include at the time of the past releases. You've opened up a ticket and posted over there (at the support forums) as well, so if an answer is to be found regarding this, it'll be there.

The enhanced WYSIWYG was disabled, as it caused a myriad of problems. (The editor is pulled, quite complexly, from the vBulletin system and into Zoints. I'll research the issue again, and see if the Enhanced can be reintroduced.

Well, at least I'm glad it's not some strange configuration problem of my
own. I've never seen this issue explained before.

I hope you guys can come up with an effective solution soon as It's going to
be really difficult for me to promote the Zoints area of my site with things
as they are. I expect many other forum admins are facing the same issues.
The vast majority of users have not had to look at formatting codes when
editing text since the early 90's and I know it is not going to be well
received. Disabling the enhanced WYSIWYG may have solved the myriad of
technical problems, but as the old adage goes, the solution to a
problem....changes the nature of the problem. I installed Zoints to help
grow my community but users will want to see ease of use.

I hope you guys will make reintroducing the enhanced WYSIWG a top priority.
I simply don't see how users are going to actively participate in the Zoints
enable features until the enhanced editor is functional.

If you do not want any links, what so ever, coming out in which your forum members could go elsewhere, likely this isn't the perfect solution for you. Although I should remind you that it is a two way street in that just as easily as your members could leave elsewhere, members from elsewhere could leave for your site. But with that said, in complete honesty, I don't think significant recruitment or member dropoff has yet been attributed to Zoints having a Communities button, as typically members are already happy with the forum they are already at and would no longer be there if they weren't. I am very concerned about those types of issues with my own forum members (for instance, new members can't PM for 5 days and 50 posts on my forum) but before I was a staff member on Zoints, I used Zoints and never felt any noticeable ill effects from it with members being tempted to elsewhere.

As for tips, I would suggest running a contest for who can create the best profile. Whether it's for an actual prize or cash, or for something on the site (like points if you have a point shop or something creative that your members would like) and have people post their profiles for you and your team to look at. Narrow it down 16 or whatever, and do brackets (leading to an ultimate winner) or just have an outright vote on it.

And with removing the Edit Profile functionality of vB, I would suggest simply removing the links to that part of your site or change the link to go to their Zoints profile (I can help with this if you would like, let me know.)

Hi Ensemble, this is possible. As Danny (I believe) responded, you can disable pages from the ZAdmin, including the profile and network and such... so only the blog is showing. If you need more detailed instructions, let me know.

Hi again Jah, this is the only thread to discuss Zoints Local at vbulletin.org, but we have additional forums of our own at network.zoints.com.

Hmm, that's an interesting question and I think it is possible. After someone has created a style, go to your ZAdmin, click Pages and then click Edit Name/Style for a particular page and look for the name of the style that the individual created. If you don't see it, let me know as while I think that should work as is, there might be one holdup that I'll tell you to account for if it arises.

Alright and as for changing the name of My Vehicle, go to your Zadmin, click Pages, and then click Edit Name/Style (like listed above) and simply change the name of the page to what you would like.

Indeed, I am looking for power-user tips (if possible) before I unleash this on my members.. they are a very picky crowd and if there are two blogs running they will give me a hard time about it. If someone out there believes one blog is better than the other - I would be interested in hearing their opinion on the subject. inciarco, the communities system is not meant to be managed by individual forums. Zoints is built around a network aspect, not just with our social network but with forums as well. I can't speak for every forum, but I have not heard any horror stories about forums losing members due to Zoints. Personally, I think the effect the communities button has had is pretty neutral as I can speak from my own personal experience of gaining a few 'straggler' type of posters while losing a few (although I do not know if they left for a forum on Zoints.)

It depends on which one you feel is best for your site, you can disable blogging from Zoints if you feel that the vBulletin blog. There is no way to synergize or combine the two though. To disable the blogging page, you can access it in the ZAdmin at the Pages section, if you need more help on this, let me know.

Hi Kshitij, have you searched at network.zoints.com yet? I believe there were similar issues in the past but you would have a better idea if it fits your situation. If you have tried or rather would prefer, we can help you out, just open a ticket up at the support forums.

Simply click X to remove it from your profile. If you don't want ANYONE to have it on your site, login into your ZAdmin, click Pages, click Edit Block Layout at the Profile section, then click X on My Interests, that will move the My Interests to the Inactive blocks from which you can make it a disabled block (for all users.)

Have you installed the vB Product? If so, there should be a Zoints dropdown that includes a my profile type of link. If this did not show up, consult the readme text with the vB Product download to see how to do it manually (if you cannot, open up a ticket with us and I'll do it for you.)

Also, is there a way to get the photo album to work in my profile?
The Photo Album is just a place holding code actually as we weren't satisfied with the solution we had. Some who have PhotoPost for example are able to integrate it into Zoints Profiles pretty nicely thanks to third party developments (at dev.zoints.com.)

I am glad to help entreplanet. From the page you are on, you'll see that there are dropdowns to the right of the page names. At the dropdown, select "Edit Block Layout" and click Go. From there you can edit the block layouts and what blocks are active by default, available or unavailable.

No problem. If you want to link me to your forums, perhaps I'll understand a bit better. But typically My Interests shows as a block on the page, Profile. You would have to click to edit the block layout for the profile page, find My Interests (listed in a blue-ish like table) and click X to disable it. Clicking X will send it to the inactive blocks from where you would have to select disable at the dropdown to not allow any member to use it.

If you are having trouble, you can create a ticket with us and provide a temporary account for me (that is permissioned in Zoints to be a Zadmin) and I'll remove the My Interests block from your profiles for you.

Have you installed the vB product for Zoints yet? If the automatic template edits do not create it, there is a readme.txt file that describes how to add a dropdown navigation menu to your navbar that will include items like "My Profile, My Network" etc.

The My Homepage is referring to the block layout for that particular page, that label will change depending on the page you are editing the block layout for. Go to here (replacing the parts of the URL to reflect your forum):

Then go to the dropdown for whichever page you want to edit and click Edit Block Layout, then you'll see the left, center and right column layout.

The Photo Album page is more of a placeholder for the future, although I do believe you can link to your photo album if you have something like PhotoPost installed. Does the profile have a link to a photo album and it still takes them to the homepage?

I am not really for sure if that's possible in regards to vB Gallery. Perhaps you could see if there any blocks developed or if someone would want to develop a block for the photo solution you use on dev.zoints.com

As for the vB Advanced modules, I would honestly asked Tigga about those as he developed them and would likely give you a more result producing answer than I would (especially given his connection to vB Advanced, ha.) I do know that for some blocks developed for vB Advanced 2x, there was a really simple fix to make it work on vB Advanced 3x, but I do not want to lead you down the incorrect path.

Ah ok, that's what I figured. Please remove that file (the .htaccess provided by Zoints) from your main root and place it inside the /z/ folder on your server and you should be good to go.

Block development at dev.zoints.com is the only place I know of. We are really dependent on third party developers developing blocks as it would be a never ending process for us to create blocks that would satisfy all, let alone support them. If you or anyone else is interested in block development, I would suggest starting a thread there and maybe those with the talent will come to help out and develop what the community is looking for.

Like I mentioned a few posts above, if you are using mod rewrite (with the .htaccess file), is the .htaccess file placed in the correct location? If so, could you please turn off mod rewrite and see if that corrects the problem? Typically, if mod rewrite is not enabled (on the server, not the feature in Zadmin) a 404 error will be given so I don't suspect that is it alone but the .htaccess file could certainly be placed in the wrong location.

If that fails, open up a ticket with us so we can pursue it further.

As for vB Credits, it would be possible if you or someone else developed a block for it, but I don't believe one currently exists (to my knowledge.)

1. Join/Register features are done through vBulletin, so if your setup is currently enabled as you mentioned, it will remain like that and Zoints will not affect how prospective members can or can't sign up.
2. You can elect not to join the Zoints Community Directory, meaning no Zoints member will find your site through us. As for pages, those are not viewable if the profile is clicked from vB, however, if a person knew the URL to directly go to a profile, that will circumvent that functionality. BUT, users can define their privacy settings to not allow guests to view, which will counteract that.
3. By default, there will be a checkmark to make it so that users will only search your forum, although that checkmark can be unselected by which members would search Zoints as a whole.
4. The My Communities block can be turned off.
5. Same answer as #3.
6. Communities cannot be hidden as that is a violation of use of Zoints Local.
7. The People page is not included with Zoints Local, that is a feature of our social network.
8. The notifications are only triggered by actions on your site, nothing to do with Zoints.com or the profiles there. Notifications will result in PM's on your site (or emails).
9. Referrals are just a feature of Zoints.com, not Zoints Local.
10. Another feature of just Zoints.com. On the Zoints navigation bar however, the button "Forum" will of course link to your site.
11. Community Filter is a feature relevant to Zoints.com only, thus it's not included with Zoints Local.
12. Blocked Members is a feature that comes with Zoints Local and cannot be turned off to my knowledge, but I don't believe we would have any problem with that being disabled should you know how to. Users in effect can block as it is if they made their profile only accessible via friends list.

Sorry for the blunt nature of the responses, I just answer long question lists like that naturally I suppose. Also, I was planning to answer your original question, but you happened to have asked it as I was working on the other responses (just so you don't think I was ignoring it.) Hopefully this helps you understand a bit better.

I'm beginning to believe that No one is concerned about a wysiwyg editor. It would be nice to hear someone from Zoints give ocassional updates on this issue to let us know what the plan is... or even if there is a plan. This is not a trivial issue for a lot of Zoints users.

The fact that I opened up a support ticket is irrelivent. I did that when I thought I had some sort of installation or settings problem and I did not realize at the time that it's a coding issue. I've also noticed that some of the customizations I added to my vbulletin editor are not ported over to the Zoints pages nor does some of my custom BB code work in Zoints. Bummer.

I'm not sure if I understand. It sounds like you are saying that I can as admin default this to checked but it can be unchecked at member level?

If this is so a workaround is that I set it as default checked to my community only. Then I go in the code and comment out the lines of code that display the option with its checkbox to the member.
I can do this kind of commenting out for myself if someone could help me locate the page template. Have done it quite a bit on my VB.

You do have to keep in mind that we do a lot of support, have a social network of quite a few people and we do not charge anything for our products. I am someone from Zoints and I would update you if I had something to update, I am sorry that our priorities do not match your's, but obviously its something will ideally be fixed in the future. And to be completely honest, there really has not been a terrible outcry for this from the hundreds of forums that have used Zoints, not to say it is a trivial issue but an issue that many (including their members) have adapted to. Again, we want to fix it, we knew of it being a problem as obviously it wasn't an oversight we didn't catch when developing Zoints Local... we had legitimate problems with trying to bring it over.

As for the ticket, I only mentioned that because if there was a quick fix (I am not an engineer), at the time you might of received correspondence via there about the issue. I am not trying to be rude, but we realize that not everything is perfect with the system and you just have to have patience and good faith in that we'll try to fix it.

Adding on to question #2, I meant that the system by default comes with that checkmark box selected, it's not something you can turn on or off. But yes, members can uncheck it to search Zoints as a whole. Disabling that functionality is again against the allowed usage of Zoints Local. At the moment we are not currently offering it, but should it become available in the future, an Autonomous license would be what you are searching for as I do not believe that Zoints Local as it is would satisfy your needs for a private community.

The reason I say this is because using Zoints Local from the download here entails the Community button, allows for outside searching and those are removed from the Autonomous License. I do not know if that will become available again in the future, that's not my call to make, but if you are still looking for a social networking solution if that license is made available again, I believe that will satisfy what you are looking for. I only say this because I do not want to suggest a solution that will make you as a forum owner or your members in any way unhappy, and Zoints Local as it comes here is based around a forum community aspect that your forum as a private community would not really fit with.

For your other community however, Zoints Local would be a fit if you were looking for the same features provided, but were ok with Zoints being connected to it.

I actually mis-stated that earlier. By joining Zoints and using Zoints Local your members will be included in the searches by Zoints.com. I thought they wouldn't if you didn't join directory, for some reason, but they are. This is the primary reason as to why I made the above suggestion not to use Zoints Local with such a private community.

And internal communities or a special message is not possible, with this version of Zoints, the communities button is to link to the Zoints.com Community Directory.

I don't believe it was being defensive, but rather explaining the situation. We have made no promises when it will happen or even if it's possible, but I wanted to explain it more to you as you and any community owner deserve that much.

And I never blamed you for us not charging for our products, :), I was simply explaining that we are on limited resources to do everything we want to accomplish and instead of money or payments, we will gladly accept your understanding and patience as we TRY to fix this in the future. :)

One of our engineers, Danny, also did respond to your ticket in late October and stated this:

The enhanced WYSIWYG was disabled, as it caused a myriad of problems. (The editor is pulled, quite complexly, from the vBulletin system and into Zoints. I'll research the issue again, and see if the Enhanced can be reintroduced.

It appears that you do not have mod_rewrite enabled on your server. Could you please uncheck the 'Enable mod_rewrite URL's' in Zadmin and let me know if the profiles work then?

Go to your Zadmin, click "Change Installation Settings", if it's checked - uncheck the 'Enable mod_rewrite URL's' and then click Next.

The two current downloads we have will work for all versions of 3.6.x, one is the product for vB and the other is the install files for Zoints Local.

Approximately? I've installed it so much it's a bit hard for me to give a fair response (as it is somewhat automatic) but after you upload the files (which take awhile depending on your upload speed), if you follow the instructions and it goes smooth.... 20 minutes should be plenty of time to do it.

An updated version is indeed coming soon.

Since Zoints relies on the vBulletin usergroup settings, thus making profile access all or nothing, all I can suggest is to do is to remove profile access to that usergroup as Zoints currently does not have anything to limit access only to it for a particular usergroup, sorry.

That is correct, if the access was removed, they would not be able to access any profile (Zoints or vBulletin.)

Glad to hear you guys are enjoying the product. To my knowledge, this wasn't an addressed issue in the upcoming release but it has been desired in the past, so I could see the engineers looking into it one day.

Ho jdelasko,

Make sure to contact Danny per described. I am not 100% sure if a changelog has been created yet, if so it hasn't been shared with us yet. If you are curious to see the changelog, ask Danny about it when contacting him regarding the testing of QA as it would be something he would likely be in possession of and would have the call about releasing it before the build is released to the QA team.

Will do. No worries about the delay.. I think the entire vBulletin world was on their site yesterday checking out the vBulletin 3.7 Beta they have running. It was really funny how so many were overly impressed with the new vBulletin 'Social Group' feature, yet they don't seem to know that Zoints even exists. Me... I'll stick with Zoints because there is simply nothing else like it.

I'll contact Danny. Zoints is very close to being a first rate social networking addon. There's a few bugs and some feature missing, but I know you guys are working on them and I look forward to the day that everything is working perfectly. I'm sure I can be more valuable by working with your developers in this small way as opposed to just complaining when things don't work the way I think they should.

I love the ease at which I can adapt any 'widget' in the world to work within Zoints. Here's a link to a flash demo of a Zoints page with an embedded mini browser and Java chat room:

It's a 4MB flash file and will take some time to load, so if anyone here wants to look at a good example of what you can do with Zoints installed on a vBulletin forum, this is one is kinda cool.... at least I think so. I plan on making similar demos to show users how to use the various features.

I'm also currently working on a number of new styles to make available to my users. It's going to take some time but I'm creating styles for all the MLB teams. Then I'll start on NFL themes and College sports themes. It's one area that I think the average user could use some help. All you have to do is browse Myspace and you will find that an alarming percentage of users are very aesthetically challenged :)

Hi Solid, I just got back from my last final of the semester, but I'll look into that for you later.

Unitedpunjab, this is what I got back from one of our engineers:
Their MySQL server is crashing, freezing, or unreachable. It's definately not a Zoints-related error.

They may need to change the connection type (Turn on/off persistent connections), or increase the amount of connections allowed by MySQL.

Like I said, the MySQL errors with Zoints have been rare so I personally don't know much, but if you don't manage your MySQL server I would suggest getting in contact with whoever does to check the status and see if there is not anything to correct.
