The only thing I can think of is you have some sort of Plugin causing the problem. Obviously I'm not the Dev here just figured I'd answer if I had any idea of what is going on (So hopefully i'm not stepping on his toes).

Well this was the first plugin I tried to install. I think I'm going to reinstall one more time and see what happens.

Ok. I reinstalled it again and now stuff is appearing in the Usergroups options. Perhaps before I'd missed a file or something but it seems to be working now. Thanks. :)

Edit: Some of the images aren't showing up, though. The groups-related images do, but the ones from vBulletin (like my logo and whatnot) aren't.

Is there anyway you can have it redirect back to the edit groups (after a group edit) instead of redirecting back to edit category? same as delete group, it redirects back to delete category instead of delete group....

Also, are admins not supposed to see what the groups are posting/or post without asking to be a member??

I'm having quite a few problems with getting this to work. The first problem I'm having it that none of the images are showing up that require css. Instead of showing as http://website.com/images/whatever.gif it's showing as http://website Groups.com/images/whatever.gif. I can't find where it's replacing that at. >_< The other problem is that my navbar is showing no images whatsoever. I'm assuming that's because of the css... but yeah. Oh yeah. The groups that are in the three columns won't center align either. AHHH!

Help me. I'm going to cry soon.

Thanks. I'm still running into the Permission Denied error. I just uploaded another Product and I can access that one thru the Usergroups. I can't figure out why I can't access GRPS though. :(

I have the various admincp files loaded into the forums/admincp directory.

On a whim, I checked out one of the GRPS admin files. I has a line like this: require_once('./includes/functions_databuild.php');

Now this file is in my forums/admincp/ directory. Yet inside that directory there is no includes/ folder, nor a function_databuild.php file anywhere. However if I go up a level, then there IS an includes/function_databuild.php direction. So what's going on? Does that line need to be changed to ../includes/functions_databuild.php?

Edit: Just to be sure I ran stuff from the tools.php script, but it had no effect. :(sounds to me like you're missing the files for the forums/xml/ folder.

right, i kept talking about this gallery and that i've not decided what i want to do with it. well i've decided that instead of selling it, i want to actually just release it. however what i've decided is that i'll set a goal in terms of donation amount. not too much and inclusive of what i've received thus far. if that's met then i'll fold it into the product and release it as 2.1.0

the problem is that it's hardcoded into the css to have the width of the columns at 125 or something pixels. check the relevant template and just make the width wider.

I am experiencing the following issues (I know at least one is already mentioned):


Images turn into hyperlinks, and there is no image button in the wysiwyg editor
Are the admincp and the groups mgmt drop-down link the only places where groups can be edited for private posts/moderate members/hidden group? It isn't giving those options when I try to create a group from the groups homepage (what I mean is, can this become a set of options as the group is being created)
In the vb user cp, clicking on a group leads to a broken link. It seems to be doubling up the "groups" directory:

rather than
http://ordinarypeople.tv/groups/groups.php?g=1
I am running in a parallel directory, and I have the radio button set as such.

i cannot replicate this on either of my installations.
it's part of the groups management on the user side and admin cp side. i'll consider making it part of the creation process, though i'm not promising anything but to consider it.

Okay I've been playing around with this a bit, and while I'm still having issues I'm getting closer to resolving them. I uploaded everything in the groups/ folder into a directory parallel with the forums/ directory. I then took everything in the forums folder in the GRPS folder and uploaded it into the matching place in my forums/ directory.

But I'm still getting the same error message:

Warning: main(./includes/functions_grps.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.kishi/factoryten/factoryten.org/groups/index.php on line 45

Line 45 of this file says: require_once("./includes/functions_grps.php");

So did I upload something to the wrong place. Should the contents of the forums folder in the GRPS directory go somewhere else on my website?reupload the function_grps.php

Zoints SEO and GRPS still don't work together!!!

I searched in different boards and other places and I found some "solutions" for this big problem!

I begin to add to every href="something.php?something"

also I do this where action="something.php".

All in all it worked with changing all href and action and added there the full URL in fron of it.

I also had to change this not only in the templates but also in index.php, groups.php and browse.php in /groups

And you know what? I bring it to a point where 50% of all functions of GRPS worked!

But you know what? This is a STUPID solution!

I think there should be some solution, which is without editing hours by hours the whole code.

Has someone of you an idea how I could solve this shit?

from what i hear, though i don't know how true this is. zoints conflicts with vBgallery as well. that being the case and the fact i don't have zoints installed, i would say the problem is bigger than just grps.

Trying to figure out how to automatically set the group leader avatar to 100 width. I was able to find the template to change for the members, but not the group leader. Anyone know which one to change?

Also, if someone logs out in the groups, it returns a blank page. Is something set incorrectly?

I have everything in /groups/ for the navbar, automatically replace /forums/ with http://yoursite.com/forums

Do you know why it's doing this? I tried the find/replace options, and also playing around with the chdir("../forums/"); but it didn't fix it.

Other than that, works great... thanks!it replaces a number of links. can you name the specific links. chances are you'll have to kill the links for the find/replace a hook was set up for this.

what do you mean everyone can moderate groups? it's an admin option, thus the usergroup option only refers to http://yoursite.com/forums/admincp/grps_moderate.php?do=groups

group leaders don't moderate groups per say, but member. it's two completely different options and one which is controlled via http://yoursite.com/groups/moderategroup.php?do=moderate&g=GROUPID

I still dont see any options to delete a group. The admin should be able to delete any group, and the group owner should be able to close/delete their own group.

How? The only menu item we added to the admincp was the 'moderate groups' under the moderation menu

group leaders don't moderate groups per say, but member. it's two completely different options and one which is controlled via http://yoursite.com/groups/moderategroup.php?do=moderate&g=GROUPID

that's only for your postbit issues.

ok so let's be helpful:
you may notice that the smilies and posticons are not working, you will have to edit them individually and prefix them with your forums path. i.e. images/smilies/smilie1.gif BECOMES http://www.yoursite.com/forums/images/smilies/smilie1.gif

In order to do this, please go to your admincp, find the relevant input box and prefix the text in said book with the url to your forums.
smilies are actually ok by default i believe however the rest will require you go to go to your style and update the image folder paths.

as for the css, prefix all images there also. good luck.

The "Contents" of the forums folder goes into your forum root
yoursite.com/forums/contents

and the Groups folder will go as such
www.yoursite.com/groups

the only thing you may want to double check is the config file... if you are having problems, I would be more than happy to assist you.

Sorry for being a pain, but boy this is really giving a hard time. I've been through every page of this thread and tried absolutely every possible mix of forum paths, to full paths to nothing, to you name it in both the installer and the config, setting each as suggested througout the site and Im still not able to get the installer going.

However, my problem now is that when I am on the index just4parrots/groups and when on the index you go to click your usercp, or any of the other links on the navbar, they do not take me to the location they should. 404 Errors.

Does it slow down posting in the main boards? I worry that this might get members all posting in their own groups, and then the board in general suffers and doesn't get the posts or activity that it used to?

Has it created a problem with 'cliques' getting worse (because all boards have cliques to begin with)

Do you find yourself with more complaints from members re: the groups? (she kicked me out, they are saying mean things in group x, so and so wont let me into their group)

If you have custom images in your style then GRPS will not pick up on them correctly so you either gotta put the full url path to the image or download your images folder then upload to /groups/

A great hack. Some notes on problems/bugs I've noticed or which have been reported to me by users:

1) The navigation breadcrumbs don't work (broken links leading to non-existent pages). Note that groups is not level with the forum directory, but within it. I've tried changing that setting in the AdminCP to no effect.

2) When I click the Quote button to respond to a post, it brings up a blank reply form with no quoting. There's no normal reply button in group forums. When I try to quote, I get a blank reply page (so you could also say there's no quote function and the reply function has a quote button).

3) Same thing happens when you do a preview.

4) I started a thread and when I tried to post a new response in that thread and it simply appended it to the original post. I tested another thread and found that if you reply to someone elses post, it'll put a new response under theres. But if you reply and then reply again, with no other posts in between, it simply appends your reply to your previous post.

5) If I click on "Go Advanced" under the quick reply feature, then I get the following error message:

2) The wacky moderation/group leader powers setup needs to be straightened up. It's not only unintuitive, but it's impractical. As many have pointed out in this thread, the group leader should effectively be moderator of his/her own blog.

3) The ability to remove users is pretty fundamental. A woman created a private girls only group, and while she was struggling to figure out how to make it private, a man joined. Now he can't be removed.

I know that sounds all very critical, but I do think this is a very good hack and well on its way to being as professional as, say, vBlogetin.

I would like for it to be a drop down box where they can choose the catagory and then underneath a text box were they can refine their search with a search term.

In addition, is it deliberate that admins don't override the permission-to-view settings on private groups they're not a member of? My server host has a very, very strict no-porn rule which could have my entire server shut down if it's violated. That means I need to be able to deal with instances where people post porn, which can't happen if I can't see the group!

For those interested, I've worked out a simple way to handle the default group image problme. All you need to do is remove the group image display from the template completely. The group leader can then simply insert an image (or images) in the group description box using BB Code as normal.

In the template group_display_main, remove the reference to the group display picture. I must apologise, but I removed the line without making a note of what it was, so I can't recall what it said exactly, but looking at the template it's fairly easy to spot which it is.

For even better results, add a couple of Custom BB tags which allow posters to align pictures left and right in a post with text wrapping. Most boards use these tags anyway.

I would also like the groups to show up under the Public Groups section of the profile. I know they aren't actually usergroups, but from the user's point of view, having them there is intuitive. And it would look good.

Yes anpther bug - total posts does not calculate correctly when viewing a single thread within a group; it merely shows the total posts in that thread, not total posts in that group.

If that's the intention, fine; but since the rest of that info box clearly refers to the whole group and not that single thread, it's very counter-intuitive. Nobody will ever guess that's what it's supposed to mean withut something explicitly telling them so.

2) When posting two posts back to back, the second post gets added to the bottom of the first post.

3) When you select "Go advanced" to get the advanced options, it deletes the text that has already been typed into the QR box.

Ok, say you have categories A, B, and C.

You want to delete A. But to delete A, you have to tell it what category any groups in A should be moved to. So let's say you tell it B -- meaning all A groups will be moved to B when the deletion of A happens.

You can't just delete a category and all groups in it, it seems -- you have to re-assign them. Even if category a has no groups, it will ask you for a category to move them to.

Did that make more sense?

Hi, I just installed this product into my forum and it is awesome. I need help with my navigation, breadcrumb, background image path as they are not working. I am running PHP on IIS server; and my forum has its own subdomain and is it setup like this:

i have now found that bug, i found it a while back after mememo brought it up, thought i fixed it but never but now it's definitely fixed and i'm just waiting to go through this thread for other bugs. that should be done today. but then i hoped to get everything sorted yesterday.

This part isn't clear, really. Remember, instruction manuals need to cater to all levels ^^ Is your user supposed to run the installer before he uploads it to his server? I suggest making the steps a bit clearer, e.g.

3) Upload files
4) Run installer.php
5) Upload the product from root. (and by that do you mean the forum folder, or the website folder. I tend to upload my product files from my computer rather then from the server location.)

Also something about different locations. Is it possible to put /groups in .com/forums/groups ? or does it have to be on the same level as the forums?

You can either do what Exitilus has done or you can add a plugin to handle it. it seems i removed the code to act on the vBulletin option (well according to both my admincp's) i'll remove the vBulletin option.

1) indeed. however should the donations i hoped for to keep my hosting for another year have come forward as opposed to it coming out of my pocket then as stated on several occasions the usability would be there. please note as much as professionalism is important there's only so much time one man can give to something and sadly i'm in a situation where by my priorities like elsewhere and for good reason.

2) i'm not sure what you're referring to. any group leader has the ability to fully moderate groups. at present the only feature a leader doesn't have is the ability to boot/ban from a group.

3) This will be present at least on administration level for 2.0.5/2.1 whichever naming scheme i preference for the next build depending on how much i have to do.

You're right it did sound critical but mostly in a good way and it's helped the advancement of the modification. however please bare in mind that while you compare it to vBlogetin, vBlogetin it is not. vBlog... charged $50 a year while this is free. i assure you that if i was getting $50 per installation professionalism would be top of my priority list. however i don't, so sadly it's not.

what you'd like to do would require you to edit the search.php in order to allow for the catid variable. it's quite simple really.

find:

$vbulletin->input->clean_array_gpc('r', array(

and replace with:

that's untested, though it should work, but it's mainly just to give you an idea.

In addition, is it deliberate that admins don't override the permission-to-view settings on private groups they're not a member of? My server host has a very, very strict no-porn rule which could have my entire server shut down if it's violated. That means I need to be able to deal with instances where people post porn, which can't happen if I can't see the group!

Yes anpther bug - total posts does not calculate correctly when viewing a single thread within a group; it merely shows the total posts in that thread, not total posts in that group.

If that's the intention, fine; but since the rest of that info box clearly refers to the whole group and not that single thread, it's very counter-intuitive. Nobody will ever guess that's what it's supposed to mean withut something explicitly telling them so.that is indeed by design. i will clarify that matter with a different phrase.

1) Can't edit a post.

2) When posting two posts back to back, the second post gets added to the bottom of the first post.

3) When you select "Go advanced" to get the advanced options, it deletes the text that has already been typed into the QR box.

Hi, I just installed this product into my forum and it is awesome. I need help with my navigation, breadcrumb, background image path as they are not working. I am running PHP on IIS server; and my forum has its own subdomain and is it setup like this:

My config file is set to: chdir("../");

Everything else appears to be fine, even though I've not really tested it yet. I just want to get the images path straightened out . Thanks.please elaborate.

Also, I noticed that group owners don't show as being a member of a group on their profile page. For instance, I was the owner of one public group and my profile page said I was not a mamber of any groups.

i am installing vbulletin and then install group community. after install both thing when i click on group moderator link in admin site it will give me this error, some fields are missing from language table, what should i do to working group community

This part isn't clear, really. Remember, instruction manuals need to cater to all levels ^^ Is your user supposed to run the installer before he uploads it to his server? I suggest making the steps a bit clearer, e.g.

1) Template Edites
2) Configure files
3) Upload files
4) Run installer.php
5) Upload the product from root. (and by that do you mean the forum folder, or the website folder. I tend to upload my product files from my computer rather then from the server location.)

Also something about different locations. Is it possible to put /groups in .com/forums/groups ? or does it have to be on the same level as the forums?

Regarding kicking user, i've made it a group leader ability on the group edit page (editgroup.php) would that suffice for the users requesting it? or do admins require the ability to do it from the admincp?

ps. the ability to kick users is a vbulletin option, so unless you enable this option groupleaders can't kick members.

Cheers for the other answers. Erm, well i spent some time reading this thread....and...somewhere that phrase stuck in my head, and I could have sworn it was in the install file. Could just be me going insane.:cross-eyed: Which is very possible, as I recently did a dual upgrade of vBulletin and vbDrupal, so I'm going slightly nuts.

Either way, this app is looking fantastic, and I'm looking forward to releasing it to my users when the next release comes out!

A couple other things.

There doesn't seem to be a 'post reply' button at the bottom of threads. The only way to get to the full reply page is to click 'go advanced' in the quick reply box.

When previewing a post, the preview appears, but that doesn't doesn't stay in the textarea of post reply box, so it defeats the purpose. This may be tied into the quote issue where the quoted text doesn't show up on the textarea.

If they've been posting away merrily on the messageboards, then go to a group and post, they don't expect the software to suddenly behave completely differently. vBulletin has excellent flood control prevention already.

Anyone know how to do this for the profile page? This is set up to work with $grps_mygroupsbits, but when you're viewing someone else's profile, you obviously want to see their groups, not your own.

Indeed it does work differently to the stock product. however if i had my way it would be part of the stock product. that said i've not actually dismissed the idea. i'm just saying i'll consider it, i do only have limited time and there are things much more urgent that need sorting.

Yup, you said some things would be fixed in 2.0.5, some were inetntional, and, IIRC, you couldn't replicate some others. So easiest thing to do is wait for 2.0.5, upgrade, and see how the thing looks. :)
