Hi,

I'm very new to the whole forum world so please bear with me here...

I'm having trouble with the installation of the mod as I'm not sure where to upload into 'the corresponding forum directories.'

Here's what I did:

- I put the content of the includes and the clientscript folders in the appropriate forum directories.

- I wasn't sure where to put the release/forums/local php files, though, so I put them under the main forum directory. (?)

- I did the same with the release/vba_modules folder.

Not sure where to upload the release/extras folder and the tests folder.


When I tried to install the xml files via vB, I got the following messages:

Warning: Unknown(/home/rawfree/public_html/forum/includes/local_links_init.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /admincp/plugin.php(1941) : eval()'d code on line 3

The error message is telling you that it can't find the file local_links_init.php in the forum/includes directory.

The directory structure in the release/ part of the zip file is *exactly* the same as the directory structure for vbulletin. This is where things should go:

- in your main forums directory:
local_links.php
local_links_actions.php
local_links_admin..php
local_links_ajax.php
local_links_search.php
local_resize.php
local_stream.php

- in your forums/clientscript directory
ldm_ajax_doisugg.js
ldm_ajax_keysugg.js
ldm_global.js

- in your forum/includes directory
local_links_admininclude.php
local_links_include.php
local_links_misc.php
local_links_players.php
local_links_resize.php

- in your forums/include/xml directory
cpnav_xlinks.xml
hooks_ldm.xml

There's then one decision you need to make yourself - where to put the contents of the release/icons directory. I suggest you create a directory called forum/ldmicon

You do not upload the vba_modules directory - you only need these if you are using vbadvanced, and vbadvanced modules are installed via the vba installation process, not uploaded.

Not many that do maybe it is something built in that forces it to act this way :D
Now I am wondering if there is a way to incorporate limited the download rate for users.
Example Administrators get unlimited download rate
Guest get 100kbs with 1 Parallel Downloads
Registered users get 500kbs with 3 Parallel Downloads (Drops down to 166.66kbs if they download three at a time for each download)
Premium or Long Time Members get Unlimited

If this was possible this would be even better.

As I have seen dedicated software but they are really buggy and don't integrate with vbulletin very well.

hello. i currently have my ldm in my public_html/media folder.

i have found out that it is possible for people to find out that the contents are there and download the files when i dont have this option available under the settings

what i want to know is can i move the media folder below the public_html folder and will it still work. would this then stop people being able to download the files andhow would i go about moving it?

If you move your current files cleverly into the same directory relative to ..local_file_root_prefix/, everything will continue to work unchanged, but be totally hidden from people who try to leech the files. If you have problems, you can always do a mass edit of the entries via the admin/categories page.

It's a good idea to take a backup...

Hello Andrew!

We want to create an area that is password protected so that only those we pm w/ the password can access it. Is this possible?

I think that I have to change the way LDM handles forum association. It seems straightforward to ask for the password when the user tries to view a category that is associated with a password protected forum, in the same way as the user is asked for the password when trying to view the forum itself.

What is less obvious is what to do about entries that are associated with such a forum. Remember that entries can be associated with different forums than the category they are in.

I think that the logical approach is to ask for the password when trying to access the entry, not when trying to view it in its category.

So this would suggest :

- categories associated with password protected forums would trigger a password request when the user tries to view the category
- entries associated with password protected forums would be visible in the category listing (assuming the user has the normal can_view_ privs to that forum) and would trigger the password request when the user tries to download/jump to the entry's url.

Does that make sense?

also, may LDM is producing weird letters when post comments to threads....
ie: make a comment to a video, it posts to thread... the comment comes out with weird text:

Yes, I'd spotted that - it's fixed in the next version (they all say that, don't they...) backslash r and backslash n are the codes for a new line, and shoould come out as such.

Funny thing is that the next question on the forum points to the answer.

The url you need to play entry XX in category YY is the following


http://url-to-your-forum/forum/local_stream.php?action=stream&linkid=XX&catid=YY


Be aware that the remote player will seem to LDM as if it is an unregistered user, so you must set up things so that unregistered users have access.

Are you using full urls to the video files or local file names? With full urls, the resources needed to read the file are *much* larger than with local files. Depending on the precise video format, the media player sometimes expects to be given the entire file before starting to play. With large files on a remote site, it never gets everything - LDM uses all its allowed resources.

The problem may be somewhere else but I would need to access your site to find out.

ok i am trying to stream it with the stream feature, not the full url.. the full url works. But even streaming using the stream feature (so that the actual url of the file is not located on the web), dont work either.. will shoot you a PM with my site details.. thanks.

Sorry I searched but didn't see anything other than another person asking the same question. After upgrading to 3.6.7 I get Sorry - link is not currently available when I try to click a link to download. I was running 2.2.5 and just upgraded to 2.2.7 thinking that might fix it but I'm getting the same message. Everything worked fine on 3.6.4 a few days ago. Is this a simple fix?

Without playing around with DownloadsII, I can't tell you in detail.

LDM has three key database tables that you need to fill -

- linkslink - one entry per download
- linkscat - one entry per category
- one entry per download per category in which you've placed it

You can write some code to transcribe the relevant tables from DownloadsII to this format.

Alternatively, you can try dumping the downloads and categories tables from DownloadsII and reformating them into the .xml or ,csv formats (.xml is better) that LDM can import

This is from the patch-forumhome-thumbs plugin, right?

Attached is the modified version which shows random selections. Basically, you just change "linkdate DESC" to "RAND()"

This message is produced when LDM fails to access the underlying url/file when you try to start a jump/download. It usually means that there's an error in the url, for example something's moved.

This isn't built in - I'll add it to the 'to do' list.

Meanwhile you can achieve this by executing the following SQL (vb admincp or phpmyadmin, etc):

DELETE FROM local_linksdownloads WHERE userid=N

where you replace N by the relevant userid

(if you've change the LDM table prefix, replace local_ by the appropriate prefix)

How do I find the url to link to a search query? I'd like to use keywords to generate forum topic specific links to relating files in LDM. i.e. use the url of a search query result and post that as a link.

You can have different category icons (standard cat, cat with new entries, subcategories) on a per-category basis. Edit the category of interest, select the second tab on the top (Control settings) and find cat_icon, etc.

You (re)set these by providing the name of the icon you want to use, which has to be in the LDM icons directory.

This works hierarchically - any subcategories in that category will use the new settings unless over-ridden there.

You can't change the file type icons on a per-category basis, but you can add any new filetype icons you want, simply by dropping a file called filetype.gif/jpg/png into the icons directory. So if you added a file asf.gif, then downloads which are .asf file will be illustrated with that icon.

I know we have "XML/RSS feeds in" in the wish list, but I see that more as an automated process of pulling in links from other LDMs.
Does this cover implementing the RSS feeds of flash video sites(google video et al) to get the video's in the desired feeds to play in the jukebox, with the flash video add on?

I'm part way through with 2.2.8, but am in the busiest part of the year as far as my main job is concerned. I can probably code your request this weekend - but will have to decide whether to honour the commitment to add some other features in 2.2.8 (in which case, release of everything is a few weeks away) or not (in which case I can probably do an update in a couple of weeks).

Early days with vba 3.0, but it seems that the release LDM modules do not work by default with a new installation of vba 3.0. You get a funny page.

I find that if you turn off vba/options/main options/Process PHP File Modules Within A Function
that everything works ok.

Will investigate further.

It's very difficult to fix problems with only a partial description of what's going wrong, without access to your site. Sorry. Maybe you want to got to LDM/admin/imprt and export and do an xml export of your LDM database? I could take a look at that.

Thanks - glad you've got things going how you want - but I don't think that that is a proper fix. You've moved the test to before the point where the code has worked out the size of the download. It's correct for links, but not for downloads.

Why is it that when I create a new usergroup based off of "Administrators" usergroup and set the permissions in the LDM admin area to match those of Administrators, that usergroup cannot access the LDM Admin area (they can only access the moderator area). I REALLY need to deny forum admins access to this area and only grant it to the webmaster usergroup I created. A rogue admin could go in there and delete *everything* in the LDM database the way it's currently configured. I searched the LDM admin file for some reference to usergroup numbers but could find nowhere to add this new usergroup. Just to clarify, the webmaster usergroup is configured properly and "can_set_permissions" is checked for this group. However, when trying to access the LDM admin area I am getting the ol' "Insufficient Permissions" error.

How can I configure this?

Access to the LDM admin page is given to users who are members of the ADMIN_USER_GROUP usergroup, where ADMIN_USER_GROUP is defined in the file includes/local_links_init.php. In the standard release, ADMIN_USER_GROUP has the value 6. You can edit that as you like. It's hard coded into the init file to avoid the situation where you completely lock yourself out.

The code looks for extended group membership, so all you need to do (I did a quick test, seems ok) is to create a new user group, give the authorised admins extended right to that group via the vb admincp, and edit the ldm init file

Three of the linkbit templates (the templates that create the main layout for displaying an entry in your LDM database) contain the line:


<if condition="$linkshowothercatbit>0"><br /><br />$vbphrase[ll_seealso] $linkothercatsbit</if>


You can get rid of the "See also:" lines by editing these templates (vb/admincp/styles and templates) and deleting that line.

The templates concerned are:

links_linkbit (used for the normal display)
links_linkbit_featured (used for featured entries)
links_linkbit_table (used for the tabular layout)

LDM itself cannot handle uploads to another server - the php routines it uses only work on the same server. However, if you use another tool (e.g. FP) to upload to the second server, LDM can certainly manage the downloads.

Slave, my friend - I got round to writing a vbadvanced module to do a tagcloud. See attached. I'd like your thoughts.

The module has a few settings:
- words size based on (keyword frequency) or (keyword frquency*total hits)
- linear scaling within the specified range of text sizes or logarithmic scaling within that range
- options for the number of keywords to display
- no colour coding as yet

Hmm .. I think the only things missing, from the options you mention, is the ability to deny some words from showing and for it to be able to cope with being either in the centre or side columns.

I think that as well as the vba module it would be very nice to have this as an option for the front/any page of LDM at the top/bottom etc. Just give people as much customisation as possible. In respect of the vba module where it shows is already covered via the vba options.

If it currently goes with the amount of times a keyword is used. Perhaps also have an option to go via the amount of times a keywords links are clicked? - Ah ha, you've already said that :)

The news on the next version is as follows: I've done quite a number of changes and fixes, but the 'big ones' that I promised (mirror urls, multiple urls and metadata) are currently 'in hand' and require careful coding. I hope to be able to release all of these at one time.

Plugin to use Joshua Eichorn's web thumbnail service to autocreate thumb images for entries in LDM.

You need an account, which is free for less than 250 webthumbs a month, and very cheap for more than that. See http://bluga.net/webthumb/.

Copy WebThumb.class.php into your forums directory and install webthumbs-plugin in the usual way.

Visit your LDM admin/settings page. You will find a new section of settings for webthumbs.
Update webthumb_key to the (long) hex character sequence for your account.
If you wish, modify the webthumb_dir subdirectory setting (relative to your LDM uploads directory). By default, the image is
saved in the /webthumbs subdirectory of the uploads directory

When you add or edit in entry in LDM, and:
a) the image field on the add/edit entry form is left blank;
b) the url points to a web site;
c) the web site validates correctly;
d) the url *does not* point to a file with a filetype that exists in the VB mimetype table;
e) LDM admin setting link_imagesize has been set to a value greater than non-zero
the plugin will visit the web thumbnail service and attempt to generate an image of the page.

This takes a few seconds to complete.

Sorry about that - I think it's a bug.

The message is only supposed to be shown when there is nothing that the user is allowed to see. However, I just realised that the message is also created in the following situation:
- when *featured_user_favs* and *featured_sites* are both set, but
- there are no featured sites visible in the current category

Assuming this is your situation, then it's my bug, not yours.

what i want is, to be able to add different Mirror Base Links in the Administrative Interface, and then ppl who add the entries would get 1 field for each mirror, where he must complete the remaining rest of the link

example :

Base URL for mirror 2 : http://mirror2.mysite.com/a_directory/

This allows the admin to change the settings 'on the fly' withough having to edit all the entries.

This is, in effect, the same as the 'mod_rewrite' feature, except that it allows you to have a randomly-selected replacement. (If you are familiar with the Apache mod_rewrite moules, this is the effect of the ReplaceMap and rnd: options).

Please let me know if this is sufficient for your needs, so that I can finalise it.

These are two parameters which control php's handling of uploads. If you are on a shared server, you probably cannot change the settings directly, so you may want to speak to your hosting company.

At least with some versions of php, if *upload_max_filesize* has a larger value than *post_max_size*, file uploads bigger than *post_max_size* but smaller than *upload_max_filesize* fail without triggering a helpful error message for php to detect and report. (This may be fixed in recent versions of php - I'm not sure.) So the general advice is to set up php with the two values the same or make upload_max_filesize smaller.

it would be very handy not being forced to edit each single entry, to add an additional download link, but for my conditions, i am getting out of space on my servers, so one mirror may not include a complete list of all files added to LDM.
so it may lead too many broken links if we don't control the error codes....
FYI: 3507 Entries with avg. size of 85 MB per each file
i think i was not completely right when speaking of mirrors, because a mirror is a COPY of the original server with different base url.... what i was talking about was alternative download locations.
is there a possibility to chat with you in messengers so that i could explain what i exactly need before you spend your time on implementing this feature?

I'll take a look at the other sites you mentioned. m-software's webshots looks easy, but my german is not good enough to understand everything on the page. I had problems in the past with artviper's code.

Could you try these.

In order to avoid messing up your LDM admin, proceed as follows:
- if necessary, use the vb admincp to delete the current webthumbs plugins (there should be two, attached to the ldm_start and ldm_link_autoimage hooks)
- go to the ldm admin/settnigs page, go down to the webthumb settings and select the checkbox to delete the settings
- reinstall the new code, attached
- reset your webthumbs key

Bear in mind that the webthumbs directory is a subdirectory of the upload dir

This is certainly caused by your new SEO hack.

I think you can get work around the problem by editing the *links_addnewcat* template (VB/adminc/styles/edit template).

I attach the replacement template.

Basically, this replaces the 'click to change display' by 'hover mouse over' to change display, and should be safe against your SEO hack.

There are a number of other places in this/other templates where the same problem is likely to occur - in situations where there are little shrink me/grow me buttons to contract/expand dialogue boxes.

You might want to raise problem with the SEO author.

I was very keen on developing the vbA modules for this add-on. Having a bit of trouble getting them to display. Not really sure what the problem is but if I make them active in a column there is a response in that the column is created just no content displayed.

One thing I have noticed is that the edit module screen still has a ldm_(module name).php in the file to include. There are no php files, only the .module files were included

Because I am using the up-to-date version of vbA (v3.0 RC1) I have set the 'Process PHP File Modules Within A Function' to no as mention in the wiki.

Hi,

I was very keen on developing the vbA modules for this add-on. Having a bit of trouble getting them to display. Not really sure what the problem is but if I make them active in a column there is a response in that the column is created just no content displayed.

One thing I have noticed is that the edit module screen still has a ldm_(module name).php in the file to include. There are no php files, only the .module files were included

Because I am using the up-to-date version of vbA (v3.0 RC1) I have set the 'Process PHP File Modules Within A Function' to no as mention in the wiki.

Anyway i thought i'd post as much info as possible. Hope someone can help. It would be hugely appreciated, cause I really think I'm going to have fun with this addon.:D

Not sure what problem you're experiencing. I found that the modules as supplied do work for me with vbA3.0 as long as 'process in a module' is turned off. I fixed that for the next release - it's basically a matter of wrapping the initialisation code into a function so that everything gets properly globalised.

The synchronisation features are intended for the situation where you maintain a large library of files on your server, neatly organised into directories and subdirectories, and you want LDM to translate that directory/file structure into the corresponding category/entry structure, and automatically create/delete categories and entries as necessary.

Two examples:

If the thumbnail comes from the entry itself, then it's created automatically. If you use a second image, then you have to add it later.

Installed ok as far as I can see but when I try and upload say a short movie clip it goes through the upload process ok, then it just says its ok but nothing shows in the catagory?

Also sometimes it just says its finished uploading and it just repeats the same white page over and over again and if I refresh it nothing has uploaded?

Take a look at your php.ini settings (ldm/admin/settings or vb/admincp/maintenance/phpinfo) and see if you are actually able to upload files of the size you are trying (post_max_size, upload_max_filesize). Check that post_max_size has a larger value than upload_max_filesize.

Try uploading a small pdf file just to check that the basic upload process is working ok.

I think we've seen this before.

Two possibilities:

a) Caused by php running out of memory, often because the site has a whole series of hacks overloaded onto vbulletin.
b) Caused by the php.ini open_basedir being set and the new admin settings are in conflict with the part of the web directory tree that php has access to.

If one of these is the case, it's easy enough to fix - am happy to take a look at your site if you want - will need an account with admin privs.

Just solved my problem by removing the database entries and re uploading the product file, all looks ok apart from a small problem.

Which is.........

If I create a category and within this category I create a forum thats linked to the local_links.php file. As soon as I click the forum it takes me back to the forums main page and not showing me the contents of the forum.

Or am I doing something wrong?

I took a look at your site, and made a small modification to the webthumbs addin, so that it cannot get stuck in a loop.

I created a test category and put five new entries in it, all of which now work fine.

I'm having some difficulty uploading some attachments. Didn't really ever try to do this and did some moderations to the board and found I can't. Deleated the mods in hope to fix this issue but still have the same problem. Every time I try to upload certain file types, for example .zip or .mpg I then get

I just have a couple of questions. I've looked through the instructions and searched through this thread but can't seem to find the answer.

Popular Entries During Last (so many) days - where do I go to make it say 7 or 14 days. I haven't got it up and running on my forum yet so that my members are using it, but everytime I look at it, it just says Popular Entries During Last 0 days. How does that work.

Also, is there a way to only allow one category to be selected when a user submits a link. I don't want my members posting under more than one category. I have looked in the user permissions and in the settings and I can't see where I can only allow one category selection. Is this able to be done?

This is not built in, but it's easy to achieve with a template edit.

First, I assume you want to give your users the ability to choose a category in the first place - you can take this decision away from them by removing their 'can_select_category' permission, in which case they will always post the entry in the category they are viewing when they click 'add entry'.

Second, I assume you are using the category *select* menu method, rather than the alternative long list of check boxes.

Edit the *links_addnewlink_catselect_multi* template and replace by the attached.

After you have done this, users who have *can_set_permissions* permission will still be able to select multiple categories. Others will only be able to select one.

you've enabled the 'search engine friendly' option on the ldm admin settings page, but you have not configured your web server to recognise the urls. disable seo_friendly

it would be very handy not being forced to edit each single entry, to add an additional download link, but for my conditions, i am getting out of space on my servers, so one mirror may not include a complete list of all files added to LDM.
so it may lead too many broken links if we don't control the error codes....
FYI: 3507 Entries with avg. size of 85 MB per each file
i think i was not completely right when speaking of mirrors, because a mirror is a COPY of the original server with different base url.... what i was talking about was alternative download locations.
is there a possibility to chat with you in messengers so that i could explain what i exactly need before you spend your time on implementing this feature?

When a user tries to download a url and the url matches a mirror test, LDM visits each of the available mirrors and obtains a response code for the url of interest. If more than one mirror is able and willing to satisfy the request, LDM invites the user to select one. If only one is available, it accesses that automatically.

For the jukebox, I think I will simply select a mirror at random.

This feature only works if your server has the php cURL module installed.

Please confirm that this is what you had in mind, and if you have any more suggestions before I finalise this.

Have you changed the admin usergroup, which is normally usergroupid 6? The code checks whether you are a member of this group and will not let you into the admin pages otherwise.

If this is the case, edit includes/local_links_init.php and change

URLs of the form http://site/forum/local_links.php?catid=MM&linkid=MM will take you to the category page but show you only the single entry.

Currently, there is no in-built way to display just the entry without the category information. You can achieve this by editing the links_main template.

If you take a look at that template, you'll find that it consists of several groups, which all follow the same structure:

It should be fairly self-evident what each of these groups does - there's a category title, subcategory list, featured sites list, main entry list and category statistics, interspersed with some 'holding variables' which are used by extras to insert additional information into the page display.

By slightly changing the test, you can eliminate any of these blocks when showing only one entry. For example, the second block in the template (the first big block, for the category title) starts out

If you change this to

then it will only be displayed when the user has not asked to look at a single entry. Then you can use the url given above.

I'd like to have it so that when a member submits a link it autocreates a thread in just one forum. I just can't work out why it isn't working.

Also, I guess there's no way to have the link back from the linkbit to the thread to not use the bbcode and use a link instead. I have not allowed bbcode and it shows as [ thread=14196 ]Discussion Thread[ / thread ] in the linkbit.

Clancy, I took another look at the code that does the thread creation. I can't see the reason why it should work for an admin but not for a registered user, provided the forum is ok.

These are the checks that are made before creating the thread:

- has a valid forum been chosen (for registered user, this probably means the forum identified by default_forumid or by the category in which she is posting)
- is that forum currently open for posting

Clancy, I took another look at the code that does the thread creation. I can't see the reason why it should work for an admin but not for a registered user, provided the forum is ok.


I'm sorry Andrew, it was my fault that this was happening. :o I was using a link that I had manually put in my template ?action=addlink - without the category id at the end... this was allowing the link to be submitted but it didn't autocreate the thread - your code works perfectly. Again, sorry.

That's good. There will be no problems in updating to 2.2.8 official - it will work the same way as any upgrade. Let me know of any problems you encounter.

I have, by the way, already found one bug in the alpha code, which messes up attempts to change certain settings on the LDM/admin/settings page. If you hit an php error concerning a call to ldm_can_accesdir, just redownload the zip file and upload the new includes/local_links_misc.php in it.

I think it's time to post the first alpha release of LDM 2.2.8. All the usual warnings apply - this is alpha, back everything up, don't use it on a live board, particularly if you want to provide gigabytes of downloads every day. However, I've been using it/developing it for some time and nothing has gone too badly wrong.

i have found a problem with one of extras. when i install Tag Cloud, table structure of admin settings gets messed....
and after i uninstalled it, it didn't remove it from admin settings....

OK I upgraded and now I have an issue I didn't have before:

I went to php.ini and set open_basedir to: /var/www/vhosts/my-domain.com/httpdocs/

I just saw the blank box to enter the media url , can't see anywhere a function to turn media player on (I've already turned can_play_media on for all users). And when view the links&download section, I clicked on the items' titles and it just download, no media player appear! (my computer can view most of online films easily)

Have you also configured it under media players? Make sure the "enabled" box is checked at the top right of each player you want to use. I can't remember if these are checked by default.

any entry gets a primary link as always.
to use mirror sites feature you MUST have the same directory structure on your other servers.
example:
main server base url: http://server1.com/some_folder/your/directory/structure/file.name
the part "your/directory/structure/file.name" should always remain. the only thing which changes, is: http://server1.com/some_folder/
you can rewrite it with http://server2.com/some_other_folder/your/directory/structure/file.name
to have the primary link in the list, you should rewrite it with itself....

i have simply imported the module and it began to work...

the first line replaces the URL you have entered as you have added the entry.
second line: to avoid forwarding traffic ONLY to neptune, i have replaced Pluto's URL with itself

Sorry about this - there had been a spate of reports from people who were receiving 'difficult' error messages, which were related to their setting of open_basedir, so I tried to improve the error checking. Obviously I got something wrong.

As you are the only person who has reported this, there must be something in your site configuration that I'm failing to check properly. I think the only way to sort it out is to take a look at your site - for which I will need full admin access to your board. Can you send me a PM with details?

Concerning the windows media player track bar, I had not made any changes in 2.2.8 alpha. I know what is causing the problem, but haven't been able to fix it yet. WMP is (to me at least) a bit of a black hole.

Just a simple question - have you added mimetype information for media files to your VBulletin admincp/attachments table? If not, LDM will not recognise media files as being 'playable'.

You can either do this manually, or there is an 'extra' (add_mimetypes) in the LDM extras subdirectory. See the online manual http://www.eirma.org/wikis/index.php/LDM_Quick_Tutorial#The_Jukebox and http://www.eirma.org/wikis/index.php/Configuring_Filetypes_in_vBulletin

In 2.2.7/2.2.8 alpha, you have to create an additional usergroup, use that group's usergroupid as the test, and put everyone in your two groups of interest also into the new group.

I'll change the code in 2.2.8 final to make this more straightforward.

Yes, sorry about that. This was a bug in the original 2.2.7 code. It's fixed (I hope) in the 2.2.7-post 2 release. Alternatively, you can edit local_links_actions.php, go to line 584 and replace delete_ldm_entry() by delete_link().

I did ask for a premium board some time ago. The vb.org people did not want to give me one for some reason. I understand the difficulties in finding things in the long thread.

I think I discovered this too. I think the problem is actually when you edit an entry - the userid gets set to 0.

I'll put some checks into the installation code with the next release to fix any problems in the database.

I'm working towards installing your hack on my vBulletin installation - and was wondering if it is possible to keep all the LDM files in their own file - or if they have to be kept in the corresponding 'clientscripts', 'includes', and 'xml' folders, etc.

I ask as I assume that each time I have to upgrade vBulletin, I have to wipe out all files and upload the new ones - and in the absence of an 'LDM' folder that I can choose not to delete, I'm trying to figure out what new VB upgrades will be like...

The FTP upload of local_links_admin.php into your forums directory must have failed - this is done manually, not automatically. Just re-upload the file and everything should be ok.

There isn't a problem when upgrading VBulletin - if you choose to create a clean directory for the new version of VB, you simply reupload the LDM files into the new directory. LDM does not need reinstalling in that situation, as its configuration is already stored in the database.

Actually, I'm thinking this goes back to to the location of the files. I had placed them within the 'includes' file originally (and down into the associated subfolders as well). Is it possible I've placed these files at the wrong level?

Could you provide specific placement info on where these files are supposed to be within the forums folder? I suspect this is causing the issue...

I suspect that you are running out of allowed cpu time on your server.

Several questions:
a) how large are the files you are trying to download?
b) where are these files stored (locally or on another server?
c) how are you setting up the entries (as poiners to local files (e.g. /dir/file.typ) or as full urls (http : // site / dir / file.typ)
d) what setting have you given for the LDM admin setting force_redirect?
e) is your board running in safe mode?

In its default settings, LDM provides secure file management so that people can't find out where the files are held. Unfortunately this comes at a cost - particularly if you set up entries using full urls - and you can easily burn up all the allowed cpu.

This is explained in the on line manual = see http://www.eirma.org/wikis/index.php/Speed%2C_Security_and_Server_Load.

For secure file management, fastest/best is to have files on your local server, with the entries set up as local file names, not as full urls.

If you can't accommodate your files that way, you may need to set LDM's setting force_redirect to 1, which is not as secure but far less cpu intensive.

Let me know if this is not the problem.

Sorry, you're not giving me enough information to work out what's going on. Dates showing up in 1969 or 1970 sound like they are also being read as 0 (date=0 is 1/1/1970).

I've just checked versions 2.2.7 and 2.2.8 alpha with vbadvanced 3.0 and I can't get it to behave the way you are describing. Can I take a look at your board? Send me a PM if you wish. (I'll need admin privs)

This will allow you to do what you want, but not quite in the way you describe. LDM has upload capabilities, and the possibility to give members of each usergroups different upload allowances.

LDM organises files into a category/entry structure, which is separate from the VBulletin forums/threads/posts. It is straightforward to add an link between a post and an LDM entry (e.g. using a custom BBcode), or to 'autoannounce' new LDM entries in your forums. However, you cannot directly create an LDM entry from the 'new post' form.

Sounds as if the 'autothreadcreate' plugin has been installed twice. Check your vb/admin/plugins and products/plugin manager - the plugin called "Links and Downloads Manager - Create threads/posts when entries are added/rated" should be listed five times, once each on the hooks:

ldm_addlink_inserted
ldm_sync_link_inserted
ldm_editlink_accept_complete
ldm_ratelink_complete

Sounds as if the 'autothreadcreate' plugin has been installed twice. Check your vb/admin/plugins and products/plugin manager - the plugin called "Links and Downloads Manager - Create threads/posts when entries are added/rated" should be listed five times, once each on the hooks:

ldm_start
ldm_addlink_inserted
ldm_sync_link_inserted
ldm_editlink_accept_complete
ldm_ratelink_complete

Is there a way when the file 'local_links.php' is loaded that the name "Links and Download Manager" can be changed to another name? I would like to give the product a name of something that reflects its role on our site, rather than the software's actual name (showing it's name at the bottom is ok - like the vBulletin name, etc)...

Is it possible to change the name that's displayed to the users?
