I use the cURL functions and everything has been working great, however I recently added someone else to help with the LDM and he's done something to make it so my thumbs no longer display.. they're all just red x's.

He was remote linking to images on other sites but now not only do those images not work, none of them do. I've tried changing the thumbnail settings (size and create_thumbs_oninsert) and resetting the thumbs but nothing seems to be working.

resubmitting them 1 by 1 seems to fix them, is there another way to do this without having to edit each link with a thumbnail image?


I've had steady problems getting the image handling to work well - probably more red cross errors than any other. Each time I think I've got it sorted... Sorry

Not currently - this would create a potential security problem.

If the two sites are actually running on the same server, you can achieve this effect with the LDM admin setting local_file_root and local_file_root_prefix, so that all LDM files are located based on the server file system rather than the web site root directory.

However, you should understand what you are doing before making this switch.

Yes, sorry about that - I introduced a new function into LDM that has the same name as a function used in VB Gallery.

I'll post new code this evening to fix the problem - there are instructions earlier in this thread but not complete.

Glad you like the overwhelming complexity...

Most of the phrases for the admin material have names that contain *admin* or *perms*. Here is a quick 'cut and paste product xml beween the English and Dutch which does most of the work. Otherwise, you can manually go through the phrase files in the development phrases directory

Lets say I do a directory scan to add a batch of files. Simple right? However, these files are .AVI files and it is a major pain to edit each and every one to add the thumbnails for them...

Considering one file, when it is added to the database, it has the following info:
$Name: wld.060812.mbac.Matrix.vs.LeoGeo
$Desc: trawled during scan of /matchvids/wld.060812
$URL: /matchvids/wld.060812/wld.060812.mbac.Matrix.vs.LeoGeo.avi

Would it be possible to slightly change all this?
So that when I add a file do the database using the batch method it adds the following:

Andrew, attached you'll find an updated translation for the new LDM 2.2.5.

I've corrected some typos, changed the translation for some phrases etc.

Phrases are translated to "German - formal Sie". If I've time the next days I will perhaps add "German - Du".

Andrew, just so you know, the "Reset Thumbs" feature does not work in 2.2.5.. It gives an error of undefined function clear_thumbnails();

As well I have discovered two more errors with 2.2.5...

1. The file size is listed as -999 kbytes (doesn't really matter though, on first click, it automatically fills in the correct information...
2. The date added is WAY off... it automatically lists the date as 12/31/69 instead of the current date. I noticed there ISNT a mass-edit feature to edit the dates for files... so this is a problem.

These two problems only happen using the SCAN based mass addition system.

The sample-avi-image.xml file you gave me works great...

Not sure about (1) - I can't reproduce the problem with 2.2.5 gold - I recall that problem but thought it was fixed a while ago.

(2) is definitedly a bug in 2.2.5 and is fixed in 2.2.6 - which I keep hoping will be uploaded before this weekend.

Just to be clear -

If an entry in LDM

a) points to a downloadable file (i.e. has a filetype that appears in the VBulletin Attachments table), and
b) is set up as a full url (i.e. http::/site/dir/file.typ) - NB it doesn't matter if site is actually your own site or somebody else's

then you are likely to have problems with running out of CPU time if the file is bigger than a few MBytes. This is because the work of retrieving the file and then retransmitting it to the user is expensive. There isn't much one can do about that.

LDM is much more efficient if the file is actually stored on your own server and the entry is set up using the local file name rather than as a full url.

Note also that these problems do not occur if the entry points to a filetype that is not in the VBulletin attachment table, because in this situation, LDM itself is not actually managing the transfer - the user's browser and the original site are doing all the work. However, this gain in efficiency is achieved at a loss of secrecy about the location of the file.

The real link to display the entry is always of the form local_links.php?linkid=NN&catid=MM and the real link to access that link id always local_links.php?action=jump&id=NN&catid=MM (sorry about the inconsistency), with local_links.php in your forum directory.

At the time the linkbit is being built inside LDM (i.e. when the display pages are being constructed, NN and MM are held in two variables called $linkid and $catid. So you could modify the linkbit template to display this informatioin if you wish.

However, I noticed that the system still holds a sustained connection in which I get an error report after 20 seconds (my wait_timeout setting). If the hits grab is now at the beginning of the file, is there still a need to sustain the connection which is killed off by wait_timeout?

Some good news and some perhaps not so good news for you...

The first beta release of version 2.2.6 is now available. I believe it fixes the reported bugs and problems with 2.2.5 and it also includes a number of relatively obscure changes to deal with special situations that some of you have requested. These changes are described in the first post to this thread, and also in the online wiki.

I have tested this quite thoroughly, but it is certainly possible that there are new bugs...

The not-so-good news is that I am going on vacation tomorrow and will not be back until mid September, when - for a while - I will have only limited time to deal with this hack.

So, if anyone finds anything serious with 2.2.6 beta 1, it would be a good idea to tell me today, ideally before bed time :)

With 2.2.6, you can use urls like this to display the images any size you want (up to the size of the original picture):

http://yoursite/yourforum/local_resize.php?linkid=56&size=250

Inside the linkbit template, the linkid is available in the variable $linkid, so you can easily edit the template to display the image at a different size. Just put in an <img> tag pointing to this url.

I upgraded vBA to 2.2.0 and then Links to 2.2.5 - I get this error on vBa index:

Check that you've uploaded the latest includes/local_links_init.php. This has the following code to select the VB version:

As far as I can tell, it works fine on my test site for new submissions. It will not retroactively create the image for old submissions. Also, it will not work if you have set local_file_root.

i only have 1 products and 2 plugin installed, the ldm and limitaccess by hits, and autocreate-2way plugin. and the follow is my 2 attached files.. not sure i've done it the right way.

the link is the file link, and the images that will be attached into the new thread is the image url below ? .. and can we have another prompt so we can browse the image from out local desktop and upload it to attach to the new thread once the link is submited ?

P.S: sorry the images link should be ended with "jpg" not avi ..

sorry, one more thing, the Force to accept, when I set to "Yes" .. the screen does appear, but when people click on "Accept" the screen stay the same on that "Accept" Decline" screen .. only when u click "Decline" then the screen go to the Decline Screen .. "saying.. u've decline to accept .. etc.." ..

I love this feature as well, since don't want people to use download manager to download files in a batch. with this feature i hope that will solve the problem ..

Sorry, we're talking at cross purposes. You are trying to get the avi->lpg auto imager to work, I think.

You need to install the extra "sample-avi-image". This will spot when you create a new entry in which:

- the url itself has an avi file type (xxx.avi), and
- the image field is blank

If both conditions apply, it will set the associated image to be (xxx.jpg).

If you've also got the auto thread create plugin, they should cascade smoothly.

it's not the sample-avi that work on what we were talking about. it's eaither avi,zip or any type of files. when you submit a new link and create a new thread, an image should be attached to that new thread. the images that you can browse directly from your computer which you haven't got a prompt for it yet on your "Add Entry" form. or a prompt to put in an url of an image that you want to attach (like upload from url)

by using your function of creating new thread once the link is add, normally there is no images attached to that thread (not the link on the ldm) you can also attach a separate image into that new thread by using the same function (in autocreate-2wayplugin.xmL ?) like create a new thread with an attachment.

When I try to save LDM settings I get prompted to download the page instead.

Also when people click on links to download they get a white page and it takes forever to download or they get an error message.

I just upgraded my forums to 3.6 and upgraded the ldm to 2.6. beta1 and I reported this error to vbulletin.comOne of the products which I have installed is called the Links and Downloads manager. I use avant browser and confirmed that I receive this error in Internet Explorer as well (Avant is based on IE), however when using Firefox the error does not occur.I reported it to them because when I searched the thread I found another error based on class_core.php and you asked the person to report it to them as it had something to do with unset array elements in the vB code. The support people said this was more or less correct but that The error is from third party code not correctly using vBulletin classes and functions.

I rolled back to 2.2.5 and it works fine.

I do have 1 problem, when I select force_redirect to 0 (hidden Link) and I try to download (save) am MP3 (didn't try other formats) I get another browser window and garbage on the screen. When I select force_redirect = 1 then I get the mp3 to download with no problem but I dont want the link to be visiable. Would you know what could be the problem? I'm running vb3.6 with LD 2.2.6beta1

Andrew, Strange problem...

I use vBA CMPS, and the option to include modules on other vB pages. When I include my standard page now on the local_links.php, it disables my admin ability to change settings in individual categories.

I'm sure you'll need admin on my site to see the issue first hand, just let me know when is good for you?

So set up a new branches in your LDM, e.g. with a top level called 'photos'. On the add/edit category page for 'photos' choose the second tab (Control Settings) and define the layout that you want for this category and its children. E.g. tell LDM to use the photo linkbit.

The first step is that each filetype that you want to work in the jukebox must have a 'Content-type' entry in the VB admin attachments table - I think someone else has posted that message.

You should not need to make any changes to LDM.

If you have any LDM entries that point to files held on the local server (your own or uploads), check that these are still working correctly - there should be no problems.

Nothing's wrong with what you are doing. I had never deal with this possibility, so LDM does not check the VB 'enabled/disabled' setting. Probably it should - I will take a look.

There is no need to disable before upgrading. However, if you want to stop your users from seeing LDM while you do the upgrade, switch off VB (VB admincp).

I understand your previous points about LDM looking complex at first -- this is a consequence of providing the flexibility that people have asked for. I agree that we now need a 'first time' admin script to set up the basics. It's just a matter of finding the time to provide it.

I imagine you are having problems with mouse left clicks? I also assume that you are using IE?

Can you check that mouse right click/save as work ok with force_redirect=0.

The problem that you are reporting seems to happen when another piece of software has 'taken control' of your browser's downloads. The garbage you are seeing on the screen is almost certainly the contents of the mp3 file. A usual culprit is QuickTime.

There is a minor change available to LDM to force downloads to work properly, which I can describe if necessary.

Yes, sorry about this. Recent versions of LDM used the same function names as the gallery hack in some of its code. The problem only appear within the vbadvanced interface. It is fixed in the 2.2.6 code.

I already had a copy with every script, table and reference renamed, but was waiting for you to return. Glad I did.

I just made two main categories Links and Photoalbum, and changed the navbar template to refer to them from different buttons.

Have to get some photo's in to see if it works, but I don't doubt that at all. I already thought this is a great add-on, but I now even think better of it :)

Including the thumbnail is built into the autocreate-threads plugin. If the entry has an associated image, the plugin will include this in the new thread. The actual layout of the new thread is defined in the phrase <ldm_thread_create_body>. If you look at that phrase, you'll see that it takes five parameters - these refer to the link name, link description, a url jump that takes the user to the entry, the name of your LDM and the image link.

I have also upgraded to the latest beta, and I'm still having an issue with getting my settings working if I include the vBA CMPS page. It used to work, not with the latest though.

I have recently upgraded vb to 3.6 and i upgraded the LDM 2.2.5 .. i have uninstalled and installed LDM 2.25 twice now.. including removing all files and replacing with new ones and overwriting the product with new installation xml.

So how do i fix this???

I don't think joining with vbux is a good idea for LDM, since as my opion vbux is a mess for now, it taking a big part into the VB database, creating the forum slow down, they still need a lot of works done .. For a small forum, i think vbux is doing fine, but for a busy forum, i think it's not a good idea to put vbux into it I've had installed vbux 4 times, and uninstalled it as many times.. if so, LDM will stand as one spot if LDM integrated into vbux .. i think it's much better for LDM to stand alone for now.. the LDM design is much stronger as it is now (such as DBs <-- mainly and codes).. and I don't think it will be if it integrated with vbux.

I thought you had probably used the admin scan function. The date setting is broken in that function in 2.2.5. It's fixed in 2.2.6.

I'm sorry, it's quite hard to debug problems without site access. The text you quote <this page is not supposed to be accessed directly> is not (as far as I can see) used in any part of LDM, and I can't see it the the main VB code either.

Thanks for letting me know, and sorry for this. Three people have now reported this problem. I think I know what is causing it (an attempt to fix another obscure problem), and will post a fix as soon as possible.

Not sure what you mean by wrapping the ldm front page.
Its a fresh install of 3.6 with vbadvanced. I then just turned on your 4 modules on the home page.

Could you explain what you mean 'buggy as hell' ? This feature has been there for quite some time and there are no other reports of problems. You have set up apache to work correctly with this, I assume?

You'll find each of these parameters explained in the on-line wiki - see first post - but you may have to dig around a bit.

You suggest this set up..

This is fine, except:

- you do not need a directory root/forums/images/file_icons_dir. Assuming you have placed the contents of the /icons directory in /root/forums/images/ldm_icons, you should point the LDM setting file_icons_dir at images/ldm_icons (i.e. omit forums/ from the setting).

- I would be inclined to put the thumbs_dir outside your forums directory.

Uploads are automatically stored in subfolders underneath (in your example) your LDM_uploads directory. You need to create the LDM_Uploads and chmod it to 777; LDM will do the rest.

local_file_root_prefix and local_file_root

These are optional settings, used to increase security. They modify where LDM looks to find entries stored on the web server. It thinks an entry is on the server if the entry you provide in the Add Entry form has no url (i.e. you specify it as /dir/file.typ rather than as http:// site/dir/file.typ)

If local_file_root is off (by default), then LDM assumes that the entry can be found in the web directory, i.e. in the example given, in subdirectory dir immediately underneath the web root.

If local_file_root is on, then LDM assumes that the entry is found in directory /dir in the local file system of the web site. This is usually not the same place as the web site's root.

local_file_root_prefix is used to 'include' a standard prefix in front of all local file names, regardless of the setting of local_file_root. By default, it is blank. If you set it to /dir1/dir2, then (for the example I gave), LDM would look for the entry in directory /dir1/dir2/dir.

By adjusting these two parameters, you can place files on your local server out of reach of prying eyes and you can also limit the parts of the file system that LDM can get at. This is useful for security reasons.

I've only seen one serious problem reported with the beta 2.2.6. Three people have said that email sql error messages are being sent *after* a download is complete, when users then click on the navbar.

I haven't been able to reproduce this problem myself, but I think I know where the problem is.

Please can anyone who has experienced this bug with 2.2.6 test the attached version of the file local_links.php (Just upload it into your main forums directory) and let me know if the problem disappears.

Once this is confirmed, we can make 2.2.6 the official release, and I can start on something else.

Not sure what you mean. If you enable downloads by guests, then anyone can download. However, there is the possibility to set bandwidth/download limits per usergroup (e.g. 5Mb, 25 files per day). For guest users, consumption is are determined per ip address. For logged in users, it is determined per username.

I think the easiest way to have the thread-link open in the same window is as follows:

a) Create a "custom bbcode" (vb/admin) called LURL, with the following as the replacement:
<a href="{option}">{param}</a>

b) Edit (vb/admin) the phrase ldm_thread_create_body and change the sequence

ie change the url tag to a lurl tag

One point to note. Standard vbulletin handling of the url tag includes checks to stop hackers putting rogue jumps with javascript, etc, onto your board. A custom bbcode does not include these checks. (There is a way to cope with this, but I haven't time to do this at the moment.)

I don't know whether I have done right or wrong, I have tried to edit the phrase ldm_thread_create_body, but I could not edit it other than adding a translation it didn't worked even after doing that, changing sequence didn't found that option so I deleted the translation I created from the phrase table ia phpmyadmin. I have edited the original phrase phrase ldm_thread_create_body in database from

Something I came up with... In the FORUMDISPLAY template whether or not a certain forum should have links to creating new LDM entries... just like the New Thread button, it's limited to the forums you specify. I have attached my buttons, they're ugly, but they're all I could do in short time.

Place the code right after:

You don't need the full url. Just give these relative to your forums dir, i.e. /images/downloadmanager

wait_timeout is the length of time that MySQL on your web server waits before dropping a connection to the database. If your web server has a very short value for this parameter, then you may experience error messages with large file downloads, because these take longer than wait_timeout seconds to complete. I've tried to overcome this problem in version 2.2.6, but the fix creates new problem. This message is just a warning - you can overcome it by changing the parameters for MySQL, but most people don't have access to these parameters.

Everytime I try to reset the file size limit to anything above 90M it resets to -30.

What gives? :)

I just noticed that when I set the days to 30 it triggers the glitch, when I set the "allowance period" to 1 day I can crank up the allowed file size.

Sorry if this seems confusing. I really should change those dialogues to drop-down menus pre-populated with the available directories. Also the info text is not the most helpful, I realise.

The thumbs directory is specified relative to the web root but the icons are relative to the forums directory. If your images/downloadmanagerthumbs is sitting in /forums, then you need to set /forums/images/downloadmanagerthumbs.

I imagine that this is an integer overflow (25x90M is about 2 billion, which on some hosts is the maximum size of number that is stored). Mea culpa - I'll correct this in the next release. In the meantime, pls use combinations of days time allowance which are less than 2 billion.

Have you also set the admin upload settings?

Go to LDM/admin/settings. There's a section towards the bottom - Controls on File Uploads. You have to explicitly enable uploads and you have to give a directory where the uploads will be stored.

When this is done, the "Add Link" data entry form for any user that is authorised to upload will include extra fields with the 'Browse' button.

These fields are only visible under these circumstances.

Currently, LDM is 'hard coded' to use gifs. However, it's a minor change to the current version, and I'll make this standard from the next release.

Step 1: Installing the plugin

The first plugin creates new threads with a message with a link to the new LDM entry. The second plugin does the same, but also modifies the LDM entry description to include a link to the thread.

Once installed, the plugin is active.

Step 2: Using the plugin

The plugin runs automatically whenever a new entry is created in LDM *provided* that entry is "associated" with a forum. Entries are either "associated" with a forum by default (if the admin has set the LDM setting default_forumid), implicitly by picking it up from the category's associated forum (Add/Edit category) or explicitly in the Add Entry form, by users who have the LDM permission *can_set_permissions*.

Forum associations are normally used in LDM to set up access permissions, but this association is picked up by the plugin to decide where to post the new thread.

If an entry is created without an associated forum, the plugin does nothing.


Step 3: Modifying the plugin (Advanced Use!!)

If you want the plugin only to fire in certain LDM categories, you can edit it. There are two lines in each plugin with the php code $limitcats = array(); You need to change the array statement to include a list of the category numbers where the plugin will fire. You can find the category numbers by looking for the "catid" that is shown when you hover the mouse over a link to the category.

Normally, you will not need to worry about this - just install the plugin and let it run.

2.2.6 is nearly ready to go. There has been only one main bug with the beta, which only three people have reported - I posted a fix for this a few days ago, which one person has already reported works, so I expect to finalise this release very soon. 2.2.5 is also a stable release, with one bug in part of the admin page which many users never use.

When you first install LDM, uploads are disabled, and only the administrator can provide items for general use. You use the LDM/admin/permissions page to control which usergroups can do things. Basically, you have to turn things like the Jukebox and uploads on, rather than turn them off.

Use something like phpmyadmin, browse to the local_linkslink table, and change all the linkmoderate fields to -2.

Go into LDM, select moderate, and then accept the entries.

Step 1: Installing the plugin

-> VB/admincp/plugins and products
Download/Upload plugins
Import either autocreate-plugin.xml or autocreate-2way-plugin.xml

The first plugin creates new threads with a message with a link to the new LDM entry. The second plugin does the same, but also modifies the LDM entry description to include a link to the thread.

Once installed, the plugin is active.

Step 2: Using the plugin

The plugin runs automatically whenever a new entry is created in LDM *provided* that entry is "associated" with a forum. Entries are either "associated" with a forum by default (if the admin has set the LDM setting default_forumid), implicitly by picking it up from the category's associated forum (Add/Edit category) or explicitly in the Add Entry form, by users who have the LDM permission *can_set_permissions*.

Forum associations are normally used in LDM to set up access permissions, but this association is picked up by the plugin to decide where to post the new thread.

If an entry is created without an associated forum, the plugin does nothing.


Step 3: Modifying the plugin (Advanced Use!!)

If you want the plugin only to fire in certain LDM categories, you can edit it. There are two lines in each plugin with the php code $limitcats = array(); You need to change the array statement to include a list of the category numbers where the plugin will fire. You can find the category numbers by looking for the "catid" that is shown when you hover the mouse over a link to the category.

Normally, you will not need to worry about this - just install the plugin and let it run.

Made a new _greg template, and altered the _main to fit the various template column headings based on $catid. :D I'm quite proud.

For example, here you'll see that the headings are Download/File Information/Date/Downloads http://www.amacny.com/vb/local_links.php?catid=7

Whereas here you'll see the headings are Follow Link/Link Information/Date/Hits http://www.amacny.com/vb/local_links.php?catid=5

Here is a completely custom template with no column headers http://www.amacny.com/vb/local_links.php?catid=4

Any newly added categories would get the defaul column header that just says "Entries", unless included in the _main array.

I tried that and had no luck, I tested with 30 tables, set all of the linkmoderate fields to -2, went into moderation and accepted them all and it still will not show up in the associated forum.

I've checked my permissions (which I hadn't altered from before, I'm fairly sure), so I don't think that's the problem, though I suppose it could be - even if it is a problem though, I can only imagine an error message would be thrown if I didn't have permissions to do this.

Any thoughts?

However, I think the problem of vb cp pages taking over the whole screen is actually a 'cookie' or 'cache' problem. I've had this on and off over the years with all parts of the VB admincp, and the only way to solve it is to clear the cache, close the browser and start again.

if you check the key settings at the bottom of the ldm setting page you will see these settings

Yes, known problem, fixed in the 2.2.6 beta. If you want to get your hands dirty, you need to change definitions of/calls to empty_category() and delete_category() throughout the code. From 2.2.6 these will be named empty_ldm_category, etc.

I have a bit of an odd issue. I just moved domains but I kept the same exact file structure. I had all my files linked to /forum/files/filefolder/filename.ext but now when I click on a download it says link not available.

It then provides a link to the file and asks me to accept or modify. Clicking on the link here will get you to the file.

Is there a way I can mass update all the files or something to get it to accept the new domain?

It's not hard to answer. The problem is that I have other things to do, like a full time job :knockedout:

Answer depends partly on what we both mean by "turn off downloads".

Basic behaviour of LDM:

- If an entry has a filetype that appears in your VB/attachments/filetypes table, it is considered a "download". Otherwise it is considered a "link". By default, LDM accesses links by triggering a browser "redirect", and manages downloads by internally reading the contents of the entry and then transmitting the contents to the user, together with the correct control information so that the user's browser does something sensible.

- The entries that LDM manages can be created either by specifying URLs or as uploads. Uploads always turn into downloads. URLs may be links or downloads depending on the filetype. e.g. xxx.html is probably a link, and xxx.pdf is probably a download

So:

- If you do not want your users uploading onto your server, the answer is to turn off uploads. But, by default, these are turned off anyway. Take a look at the LDM/admin/settings/Controls on File Uploads

- If you mean you do not want LDM to internally manage the transfer of 'download' files, then set LDM/admin/settings/force_redirect to 1.

- If you want to 'fine tune' which users can create entries, use the combination of LDM/admin/permissions/can_add_link, can_link_files, can_upload_files

- If you want to limit which file types are treated as 'downloads', take a look at your VB/admincp/attachments/filetypes

Sean, you will have to edit one or other piece of code to rename function check_url to something else.

The difficulty is one has no control over the ways users combine pieces of software, and it is not straightorward in php to keep function definitions localised.

I've started working on this problem for 2.2.7 by introducing a new naming scheme, but it will be sometime before I am confident that nothing has been broken in the process.

Stupid question ...

Where/how can I edit the text that appears in the terms of use screen? I tried to search in templates, but it didn't find anything. Would love to fine tune this :)

Also, is there a way to tell it how often to show this term? We have a daily download, and like to remind folks of the rules :)

The text is defined in the phrases, not in the templates. Take a look at the ll_agreement phrase, for example, so do a search/languages for the words of interest.

If the code is working correctly (!!), then acceptance is stored in a cookie and has a lifetime of 1 day plus 1 hour. If you want to change this, I'm afraid it's hard coded at present. Take a look at local_links.php. Early in the code (about line 220), there is this line:

$expires = TIMENOW+86400+3600;

Just change the line to the frequency with which users must confirm acceptance

I have a bit of an odd issue. I just moved domains but I kept the same exact file structure. I had all my files linked to /forum/files/filefolder/filename.ext but now when I click on a download it says link not available.

It then provides a link to the file and asks me to accept or modify. Clicking on the link here will get you to the file.

Is there a way I can mass update all the files or something to get it to accept the new domain?

Off the top of my head, I can't see why this problem exists. I'd like to understand more before suggesting how to fix. Can you PM me board details plus admin u/name and pwd or find a way of sending me a backup of the LDM database tables.

There are mass edit features in LDM/admin/categories and you can use full regular expression edits on the urls

If you create or edit an entry the is a option for:

Notification
Email those users who have already accessed this entry?

I want to disable this completely so nobody can choose it. How can I make it?

This is only shown to users who have 'can_moderate_link' LDM permission, so if you don't use moderation, just take away that permission.

Otherwise, edit the links_addnewlink template, and find this sequence:

I'm not sure if it my settings, but any uploaded WMA or WMV file goes ahead to load the embedded media player, but does not play.

I have the Mimes set properly to
Content-type: video/x-ms-wmv
Content-type: audio/x-ms-wma

Any ideas?


I played around with this and could not make things go wrong with wmas or wmvs. However, I could get WMP to behave the way you say for mp3s (fires the jukebox and then just stalls), but it seemed to be a problem inside the WMP browser control - basically, if I clicked the WMP video window, clicked on 'stop' a few times, then closed all browser windows and restarted, then things would work ok again. Not a very good answer, I know.

Thanks for reporting this - it is a bug in 2.2.5 and 2.2.6 beta. It will be fixed soon.

Thanks for the quick reply Andrew! I will ask the guys over at vbdrupal about changing their function name. How much code modification would it take to get your mod to work? So I just change the name of the function and the code that references that function and it's all good?

Sean, you will have to edit one or other piece of code to rename function check_url to something else.

The difficulty is one has no control over the ways users combine pieces of software, and it is not straightorward in php to keep function definitions localised.

I've started working on this problem for 2.2.7 by introducing a new naming scheme, but it will be sometime before I am confident that nothing has been broken in the process.

Boy, the first problem (images not shown when forum turned off) is a bit obscure...

The image that is shown on the portal is actually constructed "on the fly", not read directly from the file. The script that creates it (local_resize.php) is being told that your forums are switched off, so does not run.

The fix is to edit local_resize.php, find the line

define('SKIP_SESSIONCREATE', 1);

and comment it out, i.e.

// define('SKIP_SESSIONCREATE', 1);

I'll fix this in the next release.



2 - Bandwidth Usage is not working for me at all ( per file & per size in Bytes)


As far as I can see this working correctly. I gave your (my) usergroup an allowance of 1 file and 292K per day, downloaded benjamin once, then tried to download it a second time and it told me that I had used up all my allowances.

LDM deliberately allows you to exceed your bandwith allowance with the current transfer, i.e. if downloading the file will take you over the allowance, that's ok, but it will not start the download if the allowance is already exceeded.


Another point - for your sample download (benyamin.zip), you had set up both the entry and the image using a full url to your own site. This works, but it will be *much* more expensive in server load than giving just the filename relative to your site, i.e. just as /downloads/music/albums/benyamin/Benyamin - 85.zip. I've edited the example to show you what I mean. This downloads faster and places less load on your server.

One of your users has remarked that they can prevent the problem by temporarily turning off their firewall. I think this gives a hint.

LDM records that people 'accept' the terms of agreement by storing a cookie on their PC. This cookie lasts for 24 hours. If, for any reason, the PC refuses to create the cookie, or if LDM is not told about it, then I realise that the software will get thrown into this loop and keep asking the same question.

I had missed this possibility - it may be related to the growing concern around the web about security. I will have to find a different approach. In the meantime, it will be very helpful to learn what firewall and what antivirus software people are using who experience this problem.

Funny - I don't seem to be able to turn them off on my test site - they always seem t work even when I tell them not to...

I can't get to the bottom of this with admin access to your site, so if you wish, send me a username and pwd.

On the previous matter, I've made the code changes to cope with difficult firewalls, so it should be easy to fix this problem. Let's get to the bottom of your bbcode problem before we make any changes.

Have you got BBCodes enabled on your main VB admincp (VB/Admincp/Options/BBCode Settings)?

well i know the catagory image mod for VB interacted with LDB perfectly cause when i added that, it went and added the cat images from VB main to the LDB and I changed them to fit my needs there.

Someting, ( as you mentioned) with or for different sizes per say, but mine would be like for diferent versions with either a text message or maybe a small image with a check box next to it those would be for all the files. I would have to make someting on a image to show if the person or persons knowing how to under stand it.

Of just extra fields per say to add to it would even be more helpfull

This is not possible, for security reasons. PHP can only handle uploads onto its own system.

There have been a few other requests for additional user fields. I'll give this some thought, although it will not be until 2.2.7 at the earliest. I want to get 2.2.6 finished - been promising this for a month now...
