I forgot how to mass adding media files on local sever on the same folder. I remember I could do this back to 2.1.1, could you remind me Andrew?

It's certainly possible to consider a hack that will do this, but it's not called LDM :) I really don't want to start writing scripts to coordinate vbulletin amd other hosts.

I thought you don't have to do anything with LDM except programing a few php files to put on the remote server that allow main server to read it directly. You don't have to modify anything in current LDM, do you? :)

From a quick Google search, this seems to be a problem linked to DNS settings and service providers. I've never seen this before with LDM.

By now, there are two ways - manual and automatic.

Manual is ldm/admin/categories/scan

Automatic is to set up a category (category tree) to synchronise with the directory/directories. This is explained in the wiki, http://www.eirma.org/wikis/index.php/LDM_Quick_Tutorial

So far I encountered just one 'problem' and that has to do with the hit-counter of my downloads or links. It doesn't show how many people downloaded a file of clicked on a link. It stays on "0" hits. I searched this topic to see if I could find a solution myself, but with no luck. What could this be?

Two points to check. On the LDM/admin/permissions, check that you have *not* enabled *can_bypass_hit_recording*. On LDM/admin/settings, check that you have *not* set *force_redirect* to 2. These settings instruct LDM to bypass the whole hit recording process.

If you're ok on both of these, I'm happy to take a look at your site to investigate.

I'm somehow misunderstanding your question. You want to set up exactly the same entries in two categories, but have them sorted differently? (That's straightforward - you just choose the two categories together when adding the entry, and you change the default sort order for one of the categories using edit category/control settings) Or you want to connect more than one file to each entry?

Hi, I visited your site and tried to play the Persuaders flash with both IE and Firefox (http://www.televizia.net/vb/local_links.php?linkid=467&catid=25). It works fine for me with both browsers. Maybe you could try clearing the cache with IE?

I turn arround the wiki but still can't find out how to use the Media Player.
->I setup in normal way (upload and import xml).
->In Media Player section in Admin , windows media player is enabled, Delivery: checked stream.

->Then I add new Entry, with the url to a wmv file. But when I browse that file, clicking on the entry's name, it only bring me to the download link, not the player !

I think there is an other configuration needed but I still haven't found yet. and I need it to be done quickly as my work needs it!

Thanks man! It was the first option that was enabled. I have installed the dutch language, but the translation of the phrase is not very good in my opinion, so I thought this option was meant to do something else.

I don't know who's working on the dutch translation, but maybe I will check the full translation (or do it myself completely, because there are a lot of mistakes in it...nevertheless kudos to the person who made the translation available, I know it's a lot of work to do).

PS: I just realized I have another question. I have set up a categorie for photo's, turned thumbnails on and they're showing up fine. Then I use the magnifier and get to see one of the picture fullsize. When I go back to the thumbnailview (categorie of the pictures), I don't see a thumbnail but the fullsize picture of the image that I just magnified. When I go back to the categorie-view I would expect to only see thumbnails again.

So in short: The pictures I magnified show up fullsize in the categorie-view. The pictures I didn't magnify show up as thumbnails (as they should). But, I want the thumbnail to show up again after magnifying. What could this be?

Thanks man! It was the first option that was enabled. I have installed the dutch language, but the translation of the phrase is not very good in my opinion, so I thought this option was meant to do something else.

I don't know who's working on the dutch translation, but maybe I will check the full translation (or do it myself completely, because there are a lot of mistakes in it...nevertheless kudos to the person who made the translation available, I know it's a lot of work to do).

The current Dutch translation is rather old, but [url=https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=120685]Alfa1/url] has been working on bringing it up to date. I'm waiting for him to post the new translation. Might be worth checking with him before starting the job over.

You got that right, just select as many categories to link to one file. (Just hold Ctrl and select, I forgot about that).

Andrew, another quick question about performance. Would using no hided link is faster than using enable hided link (on the same server)? MySQL crashed twice yesterday, not sure what's the reason, but it was a peak time when multiple connections were connected to multiple files on the server.

Almost right. If you completely turn off LDM's link protection, by setting force_redirect to 2, then the load on your server will be reduced. However, the amount it is reduced will depend on the nature of your site.

- If you are serving copies of files that are hosted on your site, then your server still has to deliver them somehow. Provided you set up these entries using local file names (i.e. /dir1/file rather than http: // yoursite /dir1/fil), then it doesn't make that much difference whether the file is processed via LDM or directly by the webserver.

- If the entries are downloads and you set them up as full urls, even if they are on the same server, then there is a high overhead in passing them through LDM.

- The sql performance is another matter. I would be rather suprised if LDM makes a major difference, or if setting force_redirect to 2 changed matters.

No, this is not possible, and it was an important design decision to prevent problems. The categories create what is usually called a 'tree structure'. The important feature is that you can walk along a tree structure and know that you will eventually reach the beginning/end. If you allow a category to be a subcategory of more than one other category, that no longer applies. It's possible to create 'loops', so the coding becomes harder and more complicated to avoid getting stuck/produce sensible layouts/menus/etc.

However, you can achieve the same (similar) result by creating an entry which are actually pointers to your categories (i.e. make the url /local_links.php?catid=NN), and put this entry in multiple categories. If you give it a display order of 0, you can also ensure it appears at the top of the list with a separator.

This should depend on the LDM setting *allow_smilies*. If you've got that enabled, the smilies should display in the rate entry and the add/edit entry dialogues.

You need to patch the links_filmstrip_bit template. I'll also make this change with the next upload (which will be a bugfix release for 2.2.8).

Edit the LDM plugin which is tied to the member_customfields hook, and find/edit the line $entries_to_show = 50; You're right - this should be configurable.

You should go to vb/admin/maintenance/repair and optimise tables, and run a couple of repairs, then an optimise. that should tidy things up. If that doesn't solve the problem, use a tool like phpmyadmin, delete the local_linksdownload table and then reinstall LDM to recreate a clean table.

What is the full url to your forum? You should use that, less the sitename.

For example, if your forums are in http: // yoursite / forum, then you should set up the entry as /forum/local_links.php?catid=M

Several points.

You can place all the LDM files outside the web server directories using the local_file_root and local_file_root_prefix settings. That will completely stop anyone being able to get at the files by guessing the location. This is explained in http://www.eirma.org/wikis/index.php/Speed%2C_Security_and_Server_Load

In addition, you should block your web server from allowing production of directory listings when someone just enters the directory name. An easy way to do this is to put an empty index.html file in that directory. A better way is to tell the server not to provide directory listings. With Apache, you can also configure the server to prevent directory listings, using the Options commands within the httpd.conf file.

Well, finally I updated one of my sites to 2.2.8, but now i'm having a little problem.

I decided to sort better my folders, so i renamed the one where my downloads are... I renamed it and used xml to import my db.

But now, every time i want to rename the uploads directory, I cant, i get the following error:

upload_dir : /files/uploads
Cannot access/create directory /media/usrupl [/home/server/public/files/uploads]

That folder is there, it has CHMOD 777, but it can't be accessed, i even deleted my htaccess file and tried again, but no luck. O.o

Any thoughts?

Goto phpMyAdmin -> Show MySQL runtime information/Status or locate phpMA_path/server_status.php manually
look for red values and check their Descriptions, maybe it help u

Not saving the path, i even tried to set it directly with phpmyadmin, but i get the same result if i try to change something in the configuration. :eek:

Both approaches would be quite straighttforward to implement, but might have some compromises - not sure.

- A completely new 'entry of the month' system, running in parallel to ratings and favourites.

Either way is actually fine as long as it's somehow possible to edit/delete the list later.

I imagine a button in the editor, or a link, like "Choose links". When I click on it, I get a popup with a search interface. Links I add are displayed under the search field so that I can add more and more links to my list. When I'm done, I click "save" and close the popup.

I am not sure how to display the links or connect them to the post. I imagine it takes some kind of hook?

What I want to accomplish is the ability to build articles like this in vB:

Those links are pulled from a homemade link table so that when I update the links in the main application, the changes are reflected wherever the links are shown. It's written in ColdFusion, and not knowing much about PHP I'm not sure how to do the same in vB.

Well, if you install the versin of the code a few posts back (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1368861&postcount=2560), then there's a 'extra' provided that uses Jeroen van Wijering's general flash media player. This will handle swfs, although it implements the javascript-based player rather than a straight embed.

Just to spell it out
- install ldm 2.2.8 post 1
- go to vbulletin/admin/attachments/filetypes and add a filetype plus corrent mimetype info for swf (Content-type: application/x-shockwave-flash). Alternatively install the LDM add-mimetypes extra which will do the job for you
- read the instructions in the extras/jwplayer directory, upload the required files and install the required plugins

i've noticed that my users do not use the favourite system so much...but they often rate them...so i think that the 'extra' based on the LDM ratings system would be the best solution.

you have reached the point: at the beginning of the month we, the admins, have to look only for the ratings given in the last month (an old entry can't be nominated) but the system i supposed to keep track of the historic winner and also of the rating given the month before.

Sorry about this - you've both been hit by the bug I reported in the starter post to this thread - handling open_basedir.

Attached to this post is, I hope, a fixed version of 2.2.8. At least, I've tried all the possible combinations of operating systems I can get my hands on.

This version has these fixes/extensions:

- Fixed the code for checking directory pathways against server operating system (this is the one that I believe is causing the problems)
- Fixed spurious *rename* error message if the name of an uploaded file contains characters that are invalid on some operating systems (I think this is pspcrazy's problem)
- Modified the number of "My Recent LDM Entries" and "What's Viewed" displayed in user profile to 15 (was 50 and 10 respectively)
- Admin settings/permissions pages highlight all parameters that can be over-ridden within categories, not just those that have been over-ridden
- Trap seriously malformed urls such as http:// with no site (FlexXy's report)
- Tidied up look of Filmstrip extra (arrows) (eFil)
- Added new extra to use Jeroen Wijering's generalised mp3/swf/flv media player

and of course included the new Spanish translation

Please test and report, so that I can clear this problem up for everyone.

As an aside, I'm rather concerned that this problem was not detected during the beta testing. The range of systems that we need to work with (at least three fundamentally different flavours of operating systems for the user, several web servers, at least two web server operating systems, and all the added complexities of utf-8 and standard ascii character sets) makes testing a nightmare. How could we address this?Well, this time i was able to save my path, now i'll test how it works.

Well, for me, i guess i'll have to make a test installation under my server and test new ldm in there... cause i used to test in my local server using XAMPP, from apache friends.

I think there's enough evidence that the main bug in 2.2.8 is fixed, so I've replaced the main release with the bugfix.

Concerning future development, I can realistically do some testing with the following combinations of server/browser/opsys

- Apache 2.2 on Windows server
- Limited Apache/Linux web server (VMware + LAMP)
- Windows for user PC, with limited testing with Ubuntu Linux
- English version of the hack
- Firefox 2 and IE7

I cannot test Mac servers or user systems, nor do much testing of the language translations.

Absolutely - as the parameter description says on the LDM admin/settings page:

"If set, LDM creates search engine friendly urls for entries and categories (yoursite/links/catid/linkid, etc). If set, you must configure your web server (Apache) to recognise the urls that LDM creates - see the online LDM manual for details."

When you go to the online manual, there's a menu item labelled Search Engine Optimisation which explains what to do

If you want to put something in each entry, then you have to edit one/several of the links_linkbit templates. There are several of these, depending on which layout you are using. Each of them takes the form of a table row definition, looking like this:

For patching the main layout, above/below the list of entries, it's the links_main template. In fact that template already has some placeholder variables, via an array variable, $includeinmain. Set one of these array elements: precat, postcat, prefeat, postfeat, prelink, postlink, prestats, poststats, e.g. using the ldm_maindisplay_end hook.

Here's a couple of examples. Suppose you want to put a box saying "Hello Hello Hello" on all category pages, placed immediately above the list of entries. You can do this in two ways - either write a plugin or edit a template.

You add the plugin by going to vbulletin->admincp->products and plugins->add new plugin.
Choose products=links and downloads manager, hook location=ldm_maindisplay_end, plugin is active=yes. Call the plugin (e.g.) 'annotate' and add the following code:

This is set up in the links_main template. There a set of code that looks like the following:

Hello, playing again with the new vBa modules... I uploaded the ldm_new.module.

First i coudln't see it, then set clean code to "no" and it start showing.

Now, I made some changes on the template to show a thumbnail, this, because eveything i have has a thumb. :p

So, the code is working, there aren't errors so far, but i figured out a funny thing.

Entries 1,2,5 show a link in the title, but 3 and 4 are just plain text.

You can take a look at this in www.ositobarrigon.com or in the attached image. :D

There are no variables added, just deleted the filetype one and added the thumbnail.

LDM doesn't (currently) set the $show array. You need another test, such as

Actually, you shouldn't need to do/delete anything - it should work everything out for itself. But how many files are there in the directory that it is trying to read?

You can empty and delete entire folders (categories) in LDM by going to LDM/admin/categories, select the categor(y/ies) you want rid of, then select empty or delete

By the way, are you running the latest (2.2.8-post 1) version of LDM or an older version? (Just so that I know which code to look at.)

Try the following.

Go to your vb admincp, products and plugins.

Add new plugin

product - Links and Downloads manager

hook - ldm_admin_start

code: @ini_set('max_execution_time', 300);

plugin is active: yes

Now you should be able to get at ldm/admin/categories and tidy up.

Remember to turn off/delete the plugin when you've finished.

You know that there's an facility to autocreate threads pointing to new entries in LDM, I suppose? (LDM/admin/settings/Controls on New Entry/Comment Announcements)

engl. smth like that: Error while uploading - cannot move the uploaded file on the server.

I have an upload, thumb folder both set to 777, no error messages @LDM
using 2.8.8Post1, local_file_root Website local_file_root_prefix not set

whats the error on that?

Yes, although (depending on exectly how you set things up), this will be more expensive, both in terms of cpu (file reads over an http channel are more expensive than from the local server) and bandwidth (everything goes through your server twice, in then out). It's not a good idea to do this with (e.g.) video files, although it's quite ok with typical pdfs.

No, LDM will not autosync with a second server, although it will sync with the local file system. I didn't add this for a couple of reasons - security and processing cost. (If you look back a few posts, you'll see that someone is having problems syncing a directory structure containing tens of thousands of files.)

edit: Tested with full path url, local url, both works, only upload i still get the error msg.

Check if the php security setting open_basedir and safe_mode are set (vb/admin/maintenance/phpinfo), and whether your upload directory is within the space allowed by open_basedir - LDM is supposed to be aware of open_basedir, but perhaps there's a problem in the code that I've missed.

If that doesn't point you in the right direction, here's a quick debugging check. Go to vb/admincp/products and plugins and add a new plugin, called, e.g. debug, attached to the hook ldm_upload_filesave, and make sure it's active, with the following code:

I think the problem will be solved by turning off safe_mode, but I've not experienced this before. Your open_basedir setting is ok.

VBulletin itself gets round this problem with some slightly contorted file movements, which I have not implemented in LDM.

I've run a quick test with safe_mode on and open_basedir set, and can reproduce your problem. Turning off safe_mode corrects the problem. So (at least for me) does turning on safe_mode_gid

1) Yes.

As background, you can find out which settings/permissions can be set per-category as follows: a) Go to any of your categories, do edit/category, and look at the control settings and permissions tabs. If the setting/permission is listed on these pages, then the value for that category will override the global value in that category and in any child categories that do not set their own value. b) Alternatively, from version 2.2.8-post 1, look at the admin/settings and admin/permissions pages. If the setting/permission is colour coded yellow, then it is configurable per-category.

*force_redirect* is one such setting, so the answer to your first question is 'yes'.

2) LDM does nothing special with database connections. As far as I know, I'm using standard vbulletin procedures, including when LDM shuts down. However, I don't know what your site is using LDM to deliver - if you are supplying large video files, then there is likely to be be a long delay between starting to deliver the video and eventually closing down (and ? releasing the database connection). Consequently, if lots of people are using the site at once, then the number of simultaneous connections may be equally large.

As I've mentioned, I'm not an expert on MySQL, but I also wonder if your problem is related to the way your site is configured to handle so-called 'persistent connections'. This is a particular method for using the database. It is configured in (at least) two places - in the php.ini file and in the vbulletin config.php file - it's not something that LDM knows about or tries to do anything with. I suggest that you ask for help on the subject on vb.com or in the main vb.org programming/mysql forum.

Go to your vb admincp, products and plugins.

Add new plugin

product - Links and Downloads manager

hook - ldm_admin_start

code: @ini_set('max_execution_time', 300);

plugin is active: yes

Now you should be able to get at ldm/admin/categories and tidy up.

Remember to turn off/delete the plugin when you've finished.

I suspect that you are trying to sync a directory structure that is simply too large and complex for LDM to handle within the limits of resources that your web server will permit. When I took a look at your site, you had lots and lots of categories.

Unless you are already using LDM to offer a production service, I suggest that you simply delete all the LDM database tables (use phpmyadmin, etc) and start again by reinstalling the product via VB - it will automatically recreate these tables.

When you are viewing the results of a search, the variable $this_action will be equal to "show"
When you are inside LDM, $this_action is always set, and I imagine it's not set when you are in a forum

So I suggest you modify your forum tab code to say something like

Yes, this is available. You use the autothreadcreate options which can be set up on the LDM/admin/settings page on a global basis, or on edit category/control settings on a per category basis

Yes I noticed that it does appear on top of the form, however it's apply to all entries. Like you said, it'd be better to be able to to set each entry individually. Otherwise, I have to set most of them individually anyway.

1) This should be disabled by default. Check whether you've inadvertently enabled the *must_add_keyword* permission.

2) Not currently. Additional fields is something that has been requested for some time but has not been implemented yet - I'm waiting for proper inspiration! But it stays on the list.

Thank you for your polite description. It's perfectly possible to do what you want, and quite straightforward too. If you take a look at the on-line documentation, you'll find an explanation of what to do.

The reason why the uninstall script does not simply delete all the database tables and files is because it is too easy to have accidents - either of one's own causing or because someone vandalises your board.

There are two records of hits inside LDM. The entry itself keeps a record of the total number of hits (but nothing more - no information on who/when/etc). This information is kept permanently. The downloads table keeps a full record of all accesses, but, because the table can become very large, you have the option to 'prune' it after a certain length of time (LDM/admin/settings/prune_downloadtable).

The hit parade is produced by reading the downloads table, so, if you have told LDM to prune this table, you will eventually start losing hits off the beginning. I suspect this is the source of your problem.

Yes, it's the number of hits in the last *days_seen_on_portal* days, which you set on the main ldm/settings page - just don't set a value which is larger than *prune_downloadtable*.

yes, this is possible - the systems are quite separate.

Yes - you should first (e.g.) install the English one product xml for your default language, then use the vbulletin admincp/language manager/upload the individual language xml from the LDM release zip (development/phrases directory) on top of your German phrases.

I've written an alternative version of the plugin, which uses Joshua Eichorn's 'Easy' webthumb service. This should be more reliable, although it's not as fast on subsequent page displays because it always retrieves the image from his server rather than keeping a local copy. You might like to try it as an alternative. Please note that it needs two parameters based on your webthumbs account - the api key and the userid.

first, you need to find out which php.ini file is actually being used by your web server. you can find this from vb/admincp/maintenance/php info -> configuration file path.

second, after editing php.ini, you have to restart your web server (presumably apache) for the change to take effect.

How did you install the module? - it should be done using the vb/admincp/vba/download upload module

I've got a rather odd problem, and while it's more annoying than anything else, I'd like to clear it up if possible.

I'm new to vB so this may well be based on my own ignorance. I've got a vB 3.6.8.2 board up and running, and I've got LDM 2.2.8 installed and working fine. The issue is that each user, even after signing into vB, has to sign in AGAIN to access any category in LDM (the link to the category LIST seems to work fine). However, once this second sign-in is completed, the cookie(?) appears to be set and stable for that session, and possibly indefinitely.

i mean the links_linkbit ,so i can choose for category any one i want from the types of links_linkbit

also i hope that you make the ldm in folder other than forum ,so we can use subdomain for it
and option to make the navbar begin with ldm , forum home or url home

I'm not sure why these sites are displaying at different sizes.

Anyway, as you discovered, by default all the flash players are set up to display at the size configured in *flash_sites_plugin.xml*, i.e. at 480x360.

You can change this on a per-player basis by editin the file includes/local_links_flashsites.php.

You should ignore the development directory unless you are really keen - it contains the raw templates, phrases, etc, used to build the main product installer.

For each of the extras, there is a 'readme.txt' file in the subdirectory, which explains how to install it. In most cases, you do this by uploading the extra's xml file using vbulletin/admincp/products and plugins/download and upload plugin.

Veoh format is 540x438, they allow more resolution and unlimited file size, I guess that's why the different in window player.

Install LDM's JWPlayer addon, included in the release/extras directory.

Make sure you've defined mimetype information for flv in the vbulletin attachments table, or use the LDM add-mimetype addon to do this for you.

Although this is almost certainly not the underlying problem, since you are getting different results on different pcs, have you tried flushing the browser cache and have you tried with different browsers.

Which linkbit are you using? If you are using the standard (Modern) linkbit, check that these lines appear about 20 lines into the links_linkbit template

Uploads are placed in a temporary directory by the server/php system, then moved by LDM to the directory you have specified. The error message comes from the system function that is trying to do this file move.

Just to let you know - I rebuilt LDM 1.6 on vb 3.0.7/mysql4 and ran through a complete single step upgrade to vb 3.6.8/ldm 2.2.8. Everything works fine.

When you get blank screens with vb 3.6, you should go to the main vb/admicp/options/cookies and http headers and turn off gzip compression. That way, if there's a site error message, you'll get to see it.

Did you have local_file_root and local_file_root prefix set on your old server, and have they been set to the same values on the new server?

For local files, the database stores the file location relative to these two settings.

The temporary IP based address is almost certainly your problem. LDM tries to find local files by concatenating a series of settings on the front of the file name you have specified. I suspect that it is getting the wrong result because it has probably missed out /~mydomain.com from the middle. You can try this by editing local_file_root_prefix and putting /~mydomain.com at the start.

If this doesn't work, as usual I'm happy to take a look.

somebody else obviously had the same problem I had and found the same solution :)

edit includes/local_links_include.php. cache_styles appears three times - at about lines 1120, 1145 and 1157. Change each of them to, e.g., ldm_cache_styles. That should solve the problem. I'll fix this permanently in the next release.

I'm trying to link an external .zip file, but is not accepting the link. If a copy the link address to the web browser address bar the link works, but when I added to the LDM doesn't work. I also have a .rar file in the same folder and that one works OK. The files name is the same, the only difference is that one is .rar and the other one .zip. Any ideas?

Dear Andrew, I think there is a problem with visible link setup on 2.2.8 post 1.

I set up Category A with standard LDM link protection, and subcategory B under category A with setting 2 (link location visible, this is to avoid the double bandwidth load). However, when I play the file under category B, I can't see the real location of the remote server. The link is still hidden.

Did I do anything wrong?

I can't reproduce this bug. I did what you described - put an entry in two categories, with force_redirect set to 0 in one category and 2 in the other. The link is cloaked in the first category and visible in the second.

There's no need to update, but there's also no problem in updating - you won't lose anything. But I always recommend a database backup when you make major changes.

I would like to display the latest video in LDM on my vbadvanced portal. There already is a flash sites addon for LDM and there is a LDM latest files add-on for vbadvanced.

Basically what I need is code to fetch the embed code of the latest entry added to a category of LDM.

To illustrate what I need, see Glorify's site (http://www.glorifythepast.com/). See the embedded video's on the right.

Glorify has used the embed code to display the videos in vbadvanced. I want to display the latest video from LDM on my portal in the same way.
This would be a great add on to supply in LDM's extra's IMHO.

LDM keeps each user's uploads in a separate subdirectory within the *upload_dir* you specified on the LDM admin settings page. It gives you this error if it cannot create the subdirectory. Either you haven't given the parent directory the right permissions (unix mode 777) or there is some other setting which prevents LDM for creating directories. As far as I know, the php settings *open_basedir* and *safe_mode* are the usual culprits, but problems with these would be flagged on the LDM/admin/settings page.

Get back to me if these suggestions don't help.

Take a look at the *hide_entry* setting on the edit entry page. Is this adequate?

I'm not sure what you mean by regular/enhanced vbulletin? Are you running vbadvanced? There isn't a vbadvanced module for handling favourites/featured sites, although it would not be hard to add this.

i have a problem with cache_style redeclaration when i enable vb Ad Management 4.x
It's a conflict with the links and downloads manager modification. I don't know if the problem is with his modification or mine, but he did say he would solve the conflict in his next release.

You can set the category linkbit (-> category -> edit category -> control settings) to use, e.g. the photo or title plus thumb linkbit. Set the template altbit to be, e.g. the modern linkbit. Then, you will get a page layout of category entries and when you select one, you will be taken to a page with only that entry shown.

As far as I recall, there is not the possibility of having a trimmed version of the text on the first page - this is something that I had been asked to add in the next release.

Which version of LDM are you using - 2.2.8? It looks as if you're still running the 2.2.7 version of the ldm_new vba module.

Being using it since my first vb board 3.0.6
Im thinking if you could provide speed limiting or bandwidth limit for certain usergroup.

Im using this hack to server downloads to my members.
User with below X posts will not be able to download.
So far, it works..but im thinking to make a more robust rules.

example:
User below 30 post will not be able to download.
User below 100 post will have their download capped at 70kbps
User below 300 post will have their download capped at 150kbps
User who has more than 300 posts will have normal download speed.

Also, I want to be able to restrict the download for XX amount of connection for certain group
and for donators/paid members they can use unlimited connection.

Plus, why is it download manager cannot be used with downloads? is it because of server settings?

Is it possible to do this? If not, what can I implement to make this possible?
Do I need to tweak my server setting?

Thanks for that andrew d i tried some out and there good but no where near what i need. Like for instance if it can be the SAME at modern , but when you click on it it opens op another page kind of like (that's a gallery so ignore all that useless info lol):

So users can see comments about it on that page, the file, possibly the full out description and a larger thumb(if doable that's optional). Anyway I can pull that type of thing would be awesome.

nope i just manually removed it lol. Theres a way to do it using some ?exclude or something you can search it up. I use it on my other site AnimeCrazy.net as well :)

it covers all the features I want :) all we need now is someway to force the listing on the category page to now to not autodownload, instead to link to that page. The design on the thumb + short feels a bit too empty imo, that's why i prefer it this way. If you can in the next version odd a new way to have them show that would rock.

Im thinking if you could provide speed limiting or bandwidth limit for certain usergroup.

Im using this hack to server downloads to my members.
User with below X posts will not be able to download.
So far, it works..but im thinking to make a more robust rules.

example:
User below 30 post will not be able to download.
User below 100 post will have their download capped at 70kbps
User below 300 post will have their download capped at 150kbps
User who has more than 300 posts will have normal download speed.

I don't think it is a good idea to implement this within LDM, but I will put it on the 'to think about list'. Most of the responsibility for transferring a file is actually handled by the web server. LDM passes the content to the server. To change this, I would end up rewriting a substantial part of the server code or makeing some big assumptions about the server modules installed on the site.

Also, I want to be able to restrict the download for XX amount of connection for certain group
and for donators/paid members they can use unlimited connection.

Have you tried LDM/admin/allowances?

Plus, why is it download manager cannot be used with downloads? is it because of server settings?

Is it possible to do this? If not, what can I implement to make this possible?
Do I need to tweak my server setting?

I don't understand your question - what downloads are not working? Have you got all the mimetypes set up correctly (see LDM wiki (http://www.eirma.org/wikis/index.php/Links_and_Downloads_Manager))

That is have a section of my Library for usergroup1 another for usergroup2 - each group can see their own sector + the open areas for all members
usergroup mods can see all
some open area Library visible to all members?

Yes, this is possible and was built in from the start. Tries to speak slowly...

LDM 'piggy backs' on the vbulletin forums permissions system to decide who can see categories and entries. Each category and each entry can have an optional 'associated forum'.

If the category or entry has an associated forum, LDM will only show it to users who have 'can view forum' and 'can view others posts' permissions for that forum.

So, in order to make a section of your site available to usergroup 1, you must

- Choose (or create) a vbulletin forum and give the required permissions to usergroup 1 an dnot to other usergroups.
- Edit the LDM category/categories, and set the 'Parent Forum' to this category

This is explained in more detail in the LDM wiki.

Hi AndrewD , nice hack but I am wondering is this hack like a link manger i mean some software can host upload on the server while other can be like a hack that holds a list of links of rapidshare , megaupload etc..

Ex:

Let say a member uploaded something on rapidshare.com, and he wants to submit that rapidshare link " url " to that hack. is this hack like that ?

This can do both - manage url links that you/your users submit, and manage downloads
