I will have a look at it and see. Thanks, might make it a bit easier, better than the time it's taken to write enough words to describe the cat...
Another thing to play with when I make more icons for the new listings. ;)

It does work, but...

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words. I haven't removed the individual codes for the cats, but on listings where the folder is used to list the sub categories...
Would work fine as long as there are no child categories

I think maybe a seperate image type thing may be better down the road, as it is, bbcode works fine with just a simple addition in admincp.

Thanks though, the ability to change that little folder image is very useful though in other ways. :D

Have another idea...

I have a lot of childs in each of my parent categories. How about the ability to clone a category, with all of its settings intact to use as a template. So we can have our descriptions/extended descriptions, use policy and the settings carry over, as well as display settings and permissions, and then it's a simple to edit any changes you want.

Thinking about it, all you would need is to tell it the cat id you wish to use for the template settings, and a new name to call that created cat.

Not sure how much that would take though, might be simplier than the use policy idea, but just a idea for a good option down the road. Mind you, with all the other ideas from everyone else, that might be version 7.0 :)

Thanks for all your help.

wow. been a bit since I've been able to visit this thread/hack for updates...
and DAAAAAAAAAAAAANNGGGGGG andrew....still pluggin away and TONS of updates!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again... this hack is amazing and the support and consist development you provide is unprecendented and a true mark of why this is such a popular hack. I continue to be incredibly impressed with your efforts. GREAT JOB and keep it up!!!!

that said, and I tried looking for the answer but didn't come up with it...
its been a while so I hope this wasn't coverd....

1. any updates on having a reply automatically post into a forum of choice? (like with the drupal hack or events forums hack or the like).

I know I've asked you about this several times before so I'm really sorry for buggin you...
but I really believe this would be a HUGE boon to the already great system as it would really give direct exposure for uploads and encourage much much more contributions, etc.

2. Is there a bulk upload feature working in this version?

once again.. Keep up the great work. :)

1. any updates on having a reply automatically post into a forum of choice? (like with the drupal hack or events forums hack or the like).

I will provide a plug in with the final version of 2.1.5 to auto create a thread in the forum that have associated with a new link. This plugin will be called when you create a new link, not when you edit it. I am not going to write code to delete threads, edit threads, etc.

No.

Second release candidate, with minor changes from 2.1.5 RC1 - the change in version number is to force the VB installer to rerun the installation code.

Withdrawn - next RC is available here

im using 2.1.2beta and was doing fine, until recently, i tried to add in an additional filetype to be uploaded. First, i added it to the vb attachment mimetype table, then the LDM one. However, when i tried to upload it to the LDM, it kept saying the below errror message even though these filetypes are clearly defined in the vb attachment table.

The following setting(s) are invalid
upload_filetypes : jpg,png,jpeg
jpg not set in VB mimetype table
png not set in VB mimetype table

- Autocreate threads in associated forums when new links are added

I shall be away on business for the next week, so I'm leaving the zip file down here at the bottom of the thread. If no-one reports serious problems by the time I come back, then this will become the new official release. No more new features for a while - I have to do something else.

a well deserved break. :D Good luck with your business trip. :)

and yah.....forget new features for now... let all help Andrew mock up some UI changes. That's the only area ecDownloads seems to be ahead on.

There are two settings for controlling handling of media files - can_play_musicbox and can_save_musicbox. If you have both switched on, they can launch the inbuild media player and also use the normal link to save the file. You can selectively disable one or both options with these parameters

The link is via the LDM script, so it only works if the person who is trying to use it is actually allowed access to the file. If someone tries to paste the link somewhere else, then VB will still be able to determine their username on the board. So, if you deny access to files to people who are not logged on, you prevent leaching.

The file retains its name when it is downloaded again. On your server, it is given a temporary name. This is to stop people finding things...

Upon further investigation, my forum halted with javascript errors right after the upgrade as well. I did a reinstallation and now everything is working. Kinda strange, don't know why your hack hosed the javascript for the WYSIWYG editor?

Greg, I'm happy to try to track down problems, but I can't do much with words like 'hosed'. You described this hack on vbulletin.com as 'a hack that you were suspect of' - maybe you can explain why so that we can get to the bottoms of this?

I do have a question though Andrew. I want to start making my own templates to use like the links_linkbit_table, ya know, something that I can select that is my own formatting, but I don't want to overwrite your templates.

I went into Styles & Templates, added a new template with the code I want to use, but it doesn't add it to your Links and Downloads of course, just to the Custom Templates section. How do I use that new template in LDM?

You're wanting to have additional templates, rather than just a different style? Easiest approach would be to create a new style and simply customise one of the linkbit templates in that style, and tell LDM to use the new style for those categories of interest (on the edit category/display settings tab)

If you really want to add additional templates, then this is a straightforward edit to the code. Go into local_links_include.php, and about 250 lines in, you'll find an array declaration as follows:

$linkbitcache = array(
"links_linkbit_short" => array("collapse"=>0, "defcol"=>1, "maxcol"=>3, "altbit"=>"links_linkbit"),
"links_linkbit" => array("collapse"=>"links_linkbit_short", "defcol"=>1, "maxcol"=>1, "altbit"=>"links_linkbit"),
"links_linkbit_table" => array("collapse"=>"links_linkbit_short", "defcol"=>1, "maxcol"=>2, "altbit"=>"links_linkbit_table"),
"links_linkbit_photo" => array("collapse"=>0, "defcol"=>$maxpic, "maxcol"=>$maxpic, "altbit"=>"links_linkbit"),
);

Just add your new template to the end of the array, and it will magically appear on the list of choices.

For example:

"mylinks_linkbit_new" => array("collapse"=>"links_linkbit_short", "defcol"=>1, "maxcol"=>1, "altbit"=>"links_linkbit"),

There are a few lines of comment just above the array, explaining the parameters.

I'll try with the code you mentioned. However I'm curious as to what you mean about a new style? How do I add a new style to LDM?

You add a new style to VBulletin (admincp/styles and templates/style manager/add new style). It will pick up all the standard templates, including all those for LDM.

Then in LDM, either per category on the add/edit category, display settings tab, (or globally on the admin/settings if you want the change everywhere), set default_style to the new style you've created. That way you can customise the standard LDM templates for just part of your database.

|oR|Greg
03-28-2006, 02:33 PM
Oh, I get it, so it's just a much easier way of adding a new "template" really, but sort of cheating by adding a new style, then editing the templates in that new style. I like that, but I prefer just adding 1 template and updating the .php file. It's not hard, and has less clutter on the site in my opinion. I've done what you suggested with the .php file, works great! :) Thanks... Once I get some new templates up and running I'll shoot them up here, and if you like them, use them. Thanks again for a great hack/support.

Woot! LOVE the new additions!!
:D

but for doing my part...
I think I found some Bugs and/or minor issues in 2.1.6rc2. :confused:
(some of these may not be due to LDM, I realize...but I don't know program stuff well enough to tell the difference. :( so apologies if so.)

If you have a title with "quotes" in it....the title gets chopped off at the quote when you go back and edit the link.

if bbcode in title... profile bit of "recent hits" ...just show the code not the actual bbcode output (ie: [ b ] instead of actually showing bold type. )

Auto thread creation in forums bugs:

the LINK (that goes to the file/link that was uploaded) that is generated from the auto-thread creation plugin..... results in a "Unfortunately, you do not have sufficient permission to access this entry, as it is reserved for another usergroup. Please contact us for more information if necessary". this is either a bug or I just can't find out where to change the permissions (I'm Admin and all the permissions are set correctly as far as I can tell :confused: ). edit: ahh it only seems to happen when change category. see next.

I think it related to this bug: The link is wrong. It lists the wrong category! eg: add link from "whatever" category >> changed category when filling out form (parent category) >> result is that it upload to correct category...but link in new thread created shows file in the original whatever category.

need some kind of explanation for users. Like update explanation text for choosing a "Parent Forum" when this plugin is install.

Since there is no text or explanation of what is happening from a user perspective.... Users will have NO IDEA where or how the thread is being created when adding links. took me a bit to figure it out actually :( (granted...I'm a dope a lot of the times but.... so are most users. :p).

an image on the links_linkbit is now broken. dunno why and it wasn't broken before 2.1.6rc2. problem is I can't fix it because I dunno what the image is supposed to be cause the path is weird:
htt p:/ /www.MYSITE.net/image.php?u=2&dateline=1142819619 :confused: what is that? ugh! to broken images. :( see attached image.

Featured sites need to display same as the template_linkbit format chosen. Don't know if this is intentional, but seems like a bug (forgot to add) kinda thing. I was gunna use the table format, but when I do the featured sites still come out as default linkbit, so it looks weird/inconsistent on the page.

edit link >> expand/collapse buttons in Parent Categories are... misplaced? or not working right? eitherway...when you actually click the expand collapse button...you get craziness. see attached pics.

edit link >> highlight should UNhighlight when choosing new category. it doesn't. makes it seem like both are chosen or the new chosen category "doesn't take". see attached pic

is it just me?..... or does LDM get majorly stuck at 100% for like ...eternity....before finishing when upload larger files? Mine sits at 100% for literally a full few minutes most of the time when uploading anything but the smallest of files.

hmmmm... I think that's it for now. :) hope that is clear and actually helps.

Thanks Andrew, wouldn't have been possible without you.

Hey, maybe you want to try and tackle this other idea I had, maybe not.

A checkbox to the right of a threads title when you're creating a new thread. The checkbox, if checked, disabled/Hides EVERYTHING other then the Submit New Thread button.

The purpose of the checkbox would be to turn the title of the new thread into a link. So for example, if in the title I made it www.eirma.org, in the Forum Display, it would get a different statusicon, and the title would be parsed as <a href, etc...

Essentially allowing any forum to have links embedded amongst the threads. An edit button would have to be added because you wouldn't be able to go inside the thread to edit it, since the link went off-site. Maybe even add an extra column to the forumdisplay for click tracking. Put dashes in the Replies and Views columns, or maybe change Views to Views/Clicks and track it that way.

Let me think about it ... I've got eight hours on aircraft tomorrow...

Well, I got my new template up and running, very simple and linked to our vBPicGallery now! Only for 4 of my guys that have updated the vBPicGallery, but it's a start!

If you want to try it, click on either GTOOOOOH, HolyJerex212, GTGeo96, or StangMan86's links.

:)

http://www.limmac.org/vb/local_links.php?catid=4

Here is the VERY BASIC template I made...

<tr id="linkid$linkid">

<td width="105" align="$stylevar[left]">$linkimgjump</td>

<td align="left">
$linkurljump <if condition="$linknew">$linknew</if>
</td>

<td width="15%">
<span class="smallfont">
$linkeditbit
<if condition="$links_permissions[can_view_names]"><a href="member.php?u=$linkuserid">$linkusername</a></if>
<if condition="$links_permissions[can_set_display_order]">[$thisorder]</if><br />
$linkdate
<if condition="$links_permissions[can_view_hits]">$vbphrase[ll_hits] $linkhits</if>
<if condition="$links_permissions[can_moderate_links] and $linkstatus==$LINK_HIDDEN"><br />[$vbphrase[ll_hidden]]</if>
</span>
</td>

</tr>

seems cool...but honestly.. I don't really know what I'm looking at.
you simplied the template so it has less information right?

THanks - that's really helpful.

On the 'stuck at 100%' - are you uploading large images and creating thumbnails - the php routine that does that cleanly is a REAL cpu hog.

hmmm... yah... creating thumbnail at same time. :eek: next time I'll try with JUST the upload and see if makes a difference. (add thumbnail after).

here's a strange idea that occured to me...

If you remove the need to have a file/url/image uploaded, and just have a post, what you have is a very simple article system (with a good template done up for it).

Maybe a little checkbox to turn off the need for a file/url?

I haven't checked through this thread, so this may already have been brought up:

Someone submitted a link to my site, and it always fails checking, and shows as broken, but the link does work fine - the only way around getting it to work correctly was to go in to the database and manually change it from a zero to a one.

Is this just an isolated issue or something pretty usual?

Great hack, thanks so much :)

The fatal call to param_upload is the give away. You have not uploaded all the code - specifically, you have not uploaded the new local_links_include.php, as the param_upload routine changed name between some of the recent releases.

Just upload all the code, rerun the product installer (probably best to tell it to uninstall then to install) and you should be ok.

There are some urls that do work fine but do not respond to LDM's validation check. This is because the site has blocked the use of the piece of code that is used to validate the link. Sometimes, if you use the cURL interface rather than the fopen() interface, it works better - if you don't understand this, then perhaps not worth trying, but if you do understand, then check to see if your php installation includes the curl library.

need to make so you can exclude Featured Site from appearing in categories (of choice)....it can be confusing or sometimes...just not appropriate to appear.

You can set the featured_all_categories setting off so that featured sites are drawn from the favourites in the current category. This enables you to have featured sites in some categories and not others, provided the entries are members of those catgeories. If you want to be able to draw a random collection of featured sites from all categories but only display them in some, then I will have to make a small change (I think it involves literally adding two characters to the code...) to make this possible.

Just to show that there's nothing better to do on an airplane than think about coding...

If you have a title with "quotes" in it....the title gets chopped off at the quote when you go back and edit the link.

small bug, fixed on my laptop

if bbcode in title... profile bit of "recent hits" ...just show the code not the actual bbcode output (ie: [ b ] instead of actually showing bold type. )

small bug, fixed on my laptop

Auto thread creation in forums bugs:
I think it related to this bug: The link is wrong. It lists the wrong category! eg: add link from "whatever" category >> changed category when filling out form (parent category) >> result is that it upload to correct category...but link in new thread created shows file in the original whatever category.

Easy fix, with one provisio - if the entry is placed into more than one category, then the link will always take the user to one of these categories, which I don't think is an issue.

Bear in mind that if you subsequently delete the entry, then the thread and url will still be there and will not work. I can't do anything about that.

need some kind of explanation for users.

I've changed it to give a different message, along the lines of 'your entry has been accepted and posted into forum XXX'

By the way, I realised that no autopost should be made if moderation is turned on - that situation needs a little more thought - possibly the autocreate should happen when the moderator accepts the post.

an image on the links_linkbit is now broken. dunno why and it wasn't broken before 2.1.6rc2. problem is I can't fix it because I dunno what the image is supposed to be cause the path is weird:
:confused: what is that? ugh! to broken images. :( see attached image.

That looks like someone's avatar is broken/wrong

Featured sites need to display same as the template_linkbit format chosen. Don't know if this is intentional, but seems like a bug (forgot to add) kinda thing. I was gunna use the table format, but when I do the featured sites still come out as default linkbit, so it looks weird/inconsistent on the page.

Am adding a template choice in the settings for featured sites and well as standard entries. Both should be selectable.

edit link >> expand/collapse buttons in Parent Categories are... misplaced? or not working right? eitherway...when you actually click the expand collapse button...you get craziness. see attached pics.

This is only a problem if you use category selection boxes rather than the menu. It's fixed on my laptop.

edit link >> highlight should UNhighlight when choosing new category. it doesn't. makes it seem like both are chosen or the new chosen category "doesn't take". see attached pic

This is built into VBUlletin abd I can't change it without duplicating a chunck of their code. Is it a big issue?

princess its pretty easy to use this hack for just the links, and it works great for user submitted links. I don't think you'll find anything to surpass this. I was reading one of your earlier posts about upgrading and having to redo some stuff to your present install (I don't recall what it was off hand) I'm using v2.1.3b1, or b2. I want to upgrade to the 2.1.6r2 but wanted to make sure of what I do beforehand. So far, I have about 2000 downloads which I've had to manually add, descriptions as well, 3 times. All due to host providers though.

Basically, I just overwrite my present install with whats in the 2.1.6r2 zip and then import the xml product, selecting overwrite? Does this sound right?

BTW, hows the "credit system" for LDM coming along?

That's right - you won't lose anything. It's always a good idea to take a backup of your database before doing any upgrade.

If people have installed some of the optional extras, which are provided as extra plugins, then these need to be deleted and reinstalled, but this probably doesn't apply to you.

BTW, hows the "credit system" for LDM coming along?

The 'hooks' are there, but it isn't one of my priorities to write the interface to a points management system.

Also, I have the default setting directory to use the permissions from set in LDM but when you go to upload a file, it defaults to the first forum directory and you have to pick that forum for the permissions. Did I miss something?

if anyone wants (or Andrew if you want to use it as as default)...
here is the slightly modified text I use for the Auto-create thread plugin.

it makes the thread post a little clear and promotes clicking on the thread a bit more...

Administration
featured_linkbit setting added to enable choice of linkbit used in featured sites
Bugs fixed
category selection menu expand/collapse only shown with menu, not checkboxes
htmlspecialchars to protect quotes in links titles
profile hits list parses bbcodes
autocreate plugin creates thread url which still works ok after category move
autocreate plugin tells user that thread has been created
fix to stop Adobe Acrobat breaking with partial content requests

Those testing the autocreate forum plugin - please note that you will need to remove the existing plugin manually and reinstall it.

Grateful for a quick check on these problems.

upgraded.

featured_linkbit setting added to enable choice of linkbit used in featured sites - actually couldn't get it work at all now. The "featured sites" category appears...but nothing in it. :( maybe I didn't uninstal the previous version correctly. is there something more to it then just deleting the old plugin and reuploading the new one?

Perhaps I didn't explain well enough. When the version number doesn't change (which it didn't from 2.1.6RC2 to RC3), you have to tell VB to uninstall the product then reinstall it. Otherwise it doesn't rerun the installation code, and so doesn't make some of the new features available. Including featured sites linkbit. Sorry.

Don't worry - uninstall doesn't harm your database.

I'm assuming that you want to use the new plugin which creates a new thread in a forum when a new entry is created in your LDM database?

Unfortunately, the VBulletin upgrade process deletes extra plugins, so you have to re-install the plugin.

Go to VBulletin->AdminCp/Plugins/Download and Upload Plugins
Import autocreate-plugin.xml from extras/autocreate-thread

I'm afraid I don't understand what your second question is asking.

You can set the featured_all_categories setting off so that featured sites are drawn from the favourites in the current category. This enables you to have featured sites in some categories and not others, provided the entries are members of those catgeories.

* 1. well I changed to draw from current category. :) but I'm still not sure how that allows one ot have featured sites not appear in some categories. do you mean that if there are no entries for that category by the featured site ID there will be no featured sites? what do you do if there are?

sorry I think I need more coffee. :p

* 2. a good example of why need to exclude from some categories/situations....when you are looking at just one link/file.

if you are looking at a single file/link...and have 3 featured sites showing (or ANY actually... its very confusing (more unrelated items than the one you actually want). When viewing one file...you really only want to look at that one.

insert: The only alternative I can think of is if the linkbit for featured sites is visually different (row of equal sized thumbnails with title only? ala filmstrip style) and positioned different (not on top?) then it might make a good "related links/files" type tool. but that's kinda going off in another direction.

If you want to be able to draw a random collection of featured sites from all categories but only display them in some, then I will have to make a small change (I think it involves literally adding two characters to the code...) to make this possible.

* 3. yah. that'd be great. :) ability to do random is good. its not a big deal by any means so whenever you get a chance to add those two characters would be cool. :)

That's correct.

Bear in mind that the autocreate process will only work if you 'associate' a forum with a new link/entry. Otherwise, LDM assumes that you don't want this to happen.

hmm. then its not working for me anymore. :( note: it was working for me before. It just had a few bugs as mentioned...but it was making threads succesfully (and I was associatign it to forums).

but not since rc3 install.

Also, again, there is no intuitive instruction that let's the user know it will create a thread...so there is no way to know how to associate it. You mentioned this message was updated...but I don't see any changes. In any case, this is what I do to "associate" it with a forum:

add link
fill out name, description, file to upload (for example) and other basic info
select a Parent Category
select Parent Forum (again, I thought this message was updated?--write now it still just says "Parent Forum| Defines Viewing Permissions)
make sure user has appropriate permissions for Parent Forum chosen and its an open forum.

OK, things are working again.

Problem was that you'd changed the text of the ldm_accepted_and_thread_created phrase. This was killing the 'build new post' routine, but no error was being produced. I've modified the phrase and things are working ok, as you can tell by looking in your multimedia downloads forum.

Edited:

Your version of the ldm_accepted_and_thread_created phrase killed things without warning because you put everything between QUOTE tags - in other words VBulletin thought that everything was an old message, with nothing new added by you. So it generated a 'message too short' error.

Thanks :D

Take a look at the can_link_files permissions on the LDM admin page - and if these seem ok, take a look at them by doing an 'edit category' and viewing the third tab.

If the code is working properly, the only way you can get the behaviour you are seeing with 'add link' is when this permissions is turned off for the relevant user groups.

Andrew... my "issue" with file names is back. Even though I'm running 2.1.6 After I upload a file, it works for a while if you right-click save as, but then after a little bit of time passes, you right click save as, and it reverts to the "protected name" with all numbers. What's even more confusing, is that it only happens with some files, not all of them. In order to see it, you'll have to sign up on the site, and I'll give you access to the members downloads, then you'll see some of them save as the wrong names, some don't.

Now is limit defined from VBulletin.

There are two types of limit for uploads:

a) Some come from VB, from the attachments table, per filetype
b) Some come from PHP

I can adjust LDM so that admins can override the VB settings but not the php settings.

Let me know if this is what you mean.

from what I see, nothing is wrong with the query. The message you see is probably because your mysql server was down at the time you sent the request.

Having a progress bar with uploads is a real pain to get to work correctly.

With downloads, there are also some funny tricks that one has to watch out for, so if it's ok, I'll simply put this on the list...

I've tried this on my PC and it seems to work just fine.

Are you remembering to specify an associated forum when you add the entry?

Try it on my forums... add a link to the Video\Clips part of LDM, and specify it to post a thread to the Rides forum. It won't work. I have specified the necessary CATID in the ARRAY variable. Then if you take the CATID's out of the array, and make a new link in the same manner, it DOES work.

Yeah!

I will be all over this myself. I have a new server shortly, so busy getting ready, but expect a few questions as well, as I would like a way to display cat listings automatically (without certain bits) as a module on a news page for VBa

Nice work as always. :)

Section 4.6 of the on-line manual explains the Jukebox. As far as I know, it only works with users running Windows (I don't use Linux, etc, myself, so can't tell). It doesn't matter what the web server is running on.

You need to set some admin settings and permissions, and then the little filetype icon to the left of the entry name in the linkbit turns into a 'play me' icon for appropriate filetypes. Click this and a new window is launched, running an embedded Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or QuickTime player.

Hi there,

i have a new forum and so i installed the new version of LDM (2.1.0) and when importing the product the following message occures:

Warnung: Wrong parameter count for php_uname() in /includes/local_links_init.php (Zeile 50)

Anybody knows something about this problem?

Thx
Lee

btw.: the code in local_links_init.php is

48: // Buffer size used for fread()'s -
49: // On Windows-based servers, increase *substantially*
50: if (strcasecmp(substr(php_uname('s'),0,3),'win')==0) {

Which version of php are you running? I see a message on php.net saying that version 4.1.2 returns this warning message (incorrectly). The solution is to put a '@' character immediately before php_uname, i.e. @php_uname('s')

now the downloaders are telling me they download without a problem....which is what i don't understand. can you possibly shed some light on it?

I am also getting that error message in my mail quite frequently. Seems that it is affecting hit recording.
I checked it out today and after i downloaded 4 files it showed that i made 2 hits. Then i checked my mail and i had two of those error mails with my username...

I'm also having another problem. I have restricted the daily download for registered users to a maximum of 5 files yet i can see people having accessed more than 5 files in the last 24 hrs...
For example there is a user who has had 6 hits in the last 24 hrs. All of those 6 hits happend within a 10 minute time frame.

This SQL squery is a check to see if the same user has made a hit on the same entry within the last few seconds. It's made to prevent double counting if, for example, the user 'double clicks' the url. So most of the time it should not return anything. I will need to investigate why it is generating database errors. However, you should be able to disable the message (and check) by setting the admin value timeout_hit_recording to zero.

Are all your entries 'downloads' (in the sense that LDM uses - i.e. they have filetypes that appear in the VB attachments table) or are there also some entries which have filetypes that are not in the mimetypes table?

Assuming everything is working ok, LDM *only* places daily limits on the first group, not on the second.

There is a second possibility, since you mention that the hits are in quick succession. Each 'hit' is only recorded when it completes, consequently if a user starts multiple downloads in quick succession, then she may be able to bypass the daily limits. If necessary, we might be able to find ways to prevent that occurring.

Please confirm - I will check the code in more detail if necessary.

In the current code, the admin is given an easy way to select entries submitted more than N days ago, see an indication of when these were last 'hit', then easily prune them from the database. It is more a 'facilitated manual delete' rather than an 'autodelete' feature, although I don't think it would be hard to write a plugin to do this.

Based on the responses received in the last few days, I think that we should treat 2.2.0 as the new official release, so it's recorded as such in the first post in this thread.

Please note that, after upgrading, you will need to reinstall any of the LDM optional plugins from the extras subdirectory.

Thanks to everyone for all your help.

Consolidates all changes/fixes since 2.1.0

I would very much welcome some help with completing the translation of the phrase files into French, German and Spanish. I'm attaching these to this post. The official release contains partial translations.

Andrew, attached you'll find the translated german phrases for LDM 2.2.0.

I've retranslated all phrases from the beginning (based on the original XML from 2.2.0 beta) and not used the provided german translation before... This is because I use only "German- formal SIE" and not the "Du" version.

XML should work for most users.

Sorry, I need a bit more information. The link local_links.php?action=jump&id=1&catid=2
is the usual url that LDM uses to give access (you've created two categories, and this is the first entry you've put in the database...)

Just to be clear, the problem is happening with an upload? Just this one, or any upload? Do things work ok when you create entries which point to urls rather than being uploads?

If you want me to take a look at your site, send me a PM with an admin username and password to your board.

When you set new categories have to be moderated and a member add a new category this category is instantly visible and acessable for guests via the drop down list.

And a second problem is, that no emails are send to the administrator if a new link/category is submitted, that must moderated.

Thank you for your continued efforts developing LDM.

I'm just starting to test LDM again with the 2.2.0 release, so I'm not sure if this has already been implemented or not, but I would like to second the request for a copy/clone category function that includes child categories.

For example:

Item #1 - with the following sub-categories:
a) reviews
b) interviews
c) news

could be cloned to:

Item #2
a) reviews
b) interviews
c) news

Have another idea...

I have a lot of childs in each of my parent categories. How about the ability to clone a category, with all of its settings intact to use as a template. So we can have our descriptions/extended descriptions, use policy and the settings carry over, as well as display settings and permissions, and then it's a simple to edit any changes you want.

Andrew,

Just wanted to say thanks again for such a great hack with so much versatility. It's much appreciated.

Ok, so I had a question now that I've complimented you. :)

I noticed today that there is no variable set to disallow selection of what category a new link will be placed in.

For example, if users want to add a link it's required they be in a category that accepts links. However, if they go into a category that accepts links, they can then select any available category, even if it's closed. Not only is that a fairly large bug/problem, but I was also thinking that there should be a variable to disallow_cat_selection, where if you set it to yes, then whatever category the user is in, is the category that's getting the link. If it's set to no, then the user would get the edit box that they currently get with all the categories, however, the categories that are closed would be omitted from the list.

So I guess this isn't a question so much as a bug report and feature request.

So I guess this isn't a question so much as a bug report and feature request.

Thanks for this - clearly a bug and also a useful feature - will check.

have you set up a category to upload to? it won't allow you to upload from the "home" category...you need to create one.

Have you enabled uploads, down the bottom of the LDM admin/settings page?

If uploads are enabled, then the 'Add Link' form will have a box on it for selecting the upload .

Yes sir, uploads are enabled, directory has been defined, and directory has permissions for the web server user.

Yep, have one category. I'll try to set another.

That's odd, I defined a new category and the "Link" button popped up, my apologies for the firedrill

*** Update ***

I've got a few questions - Naturally.

1) How would I go about adding in images/banners to category descriptions?
2) I placed the cpnav_xlinks.xml into my /forums/includes/xml directory, yet I do not see an option in the VB ACP to access it. What have I done wrong here?
3) How can I get rid of "Submitted by", Date, hits, size, display order when viewing entries?

Hi,

thx for this fine Hack but :

After the Update from 2.1.5 to 2.2.0 it tells me that Softwareversion is 2.2.0 and Database is still 2.1.5 .

And sure i have overwritten the Productfile.

What can i do ?

For the Moment i have manually edited the 2.1.5 to 2.2.0 with phpMyAdmin at line "admin". That works but i think there is nothing at Database changed.

Easiest way to be sure is simply to tell the VB product installer to uninstall then reinstall. You won't lose anything.

No problem. Perhaps the coding is too clever for its own good.

1) How would I go about adding in images/banners to category descriptions?

The easiest way to do this for banners is to use Vb codes e.g. the img code. For small icon images, you can try Edit Category/Display Settings/cat_icon and cat_icon_new

2) I placed the cpnav_xlinks.xml into my /forums/includes/xml directory, yet I do not see an option in the VB ACP to access it. What have I done wrong here?

Usually the Links and Download group appears close to the top of the list in the left hand column of the ACP. Sometimes I've noticed that you need to close all browser windows completely and restart before VB picks up these xml files.

3) How can I get rid of "Submitted by", Date, hits, size, display order when viewing entries?

You can get rid of several of these by changing the permissions (LDM/Admin/Permissions)

"Submitted by" - take away can_view_names permission
hits - take away can_view_hits permission
display order - take away can_set_display_order permission

For Date and size you would have to edit the template (VB/styles/style manager/edit templates) If you're using the standard layout (outer box with inner box on the right hand side, you would have to edit the links_linkbit template. As example, I attach a modified version of the links_linkbit template without the right nahd box.

I am getting this error when I try to add an image that is jpg for the link. I have the size set at 100. Any ideas what might be causing this or what I might be doing wrong? I am using the latest version.

Hi, seems working.

But it is normal that the german Translation is still very incomplete ?

I have a new German translation, very kindly completed a few days ago by dlutt, but I hadn't had a chance to upload it yet (am in the middle of a yet another business trip). It will be uploaded as a complete product xml file next weekend, when I'm back home. Or you can find his phrases file here

Is there a space character or some similar in the jpg's filename. I can see a bug in the code in this situation, although I can't get it to trigger your message.

Andrew - Thank you very much! This took care of all of those concerns, I just have a final (hopefully!) two questions, and then I'll ride off into the sunset.

1) Is there a way to remove the "enlarge image" expansion button.
2) Is there a way to remove the "add to favorites" button.

Thanks in advance!

Greg -
Thank you very much! I really like the look you achieved, and I really like your vertical menu system, was that a custom hack, or something you received from a third party?

|oR|Greg
04-25-2006, 05:58 PM
It's a hack for vBAdvanced. They have a tutorial where you can add blocks to any vB page. Once I installed vBA, did the tutorial, there was a Module that someone wrote for the vertical NavMenu, I rewrote it with what I wanted and how I wanted. So... I guess it's 3rd party customized. I made it's sections collapsable, and made the Forum/Home link a little smarter then the normal one people use:

Using this will generate a warning in IE on the bottom status bar that there is an error on the page, however the "error" is that I left a quote off the first table column lines (in 3 places), I did this because with the quote, it totally screws up how things look and behave, without the quote it's perfect, don't ask me why. This is the line I'm talking about (<td style="cursor:hand" class='alt1' onmouseover="this.className='alt1'" onmouseout="this.className='alt1'>) Notice that the last " is missing.

What size do you have your image thumbnails set to?

1) Is there a way to remove the "enlarge image" expansion button.

This needs a template edit. Kill the lines in the linkbit template that read as follows:
<br />
<span class="smallfont">$linkimgmag</span>

2) Is there a way to remove the "add to favorites" button.

Remove the can_mark_link permission for all usergroups

Nice look, but I noticed that if you don't have a thumbnail image, it still shows the "Enlarge Thumbnail" and the icon for it. Could you post the code to fix that.

I also noticed that it didn't align to the top, but that is easy to fix. :)

What size do you have your image thumbnails set to?

Thumbs are 100px.

All problems fixed, well.. all my problems anyway...

Ok, made some cleanup changes, and code changes.

If you want it to look like mine, do the following:

Open ../includes/local_links_include.php

Goto Lines 2304-2306 you'll see this:

$linkimgmag = '<a href="local_resize.php?pic='.$linkimg.'&amp;size=600" target="_blank" title="'.$vbphrase['ll_enlarge_thumb'].'">'.
iif(isset($icon_cache['magnify']),'<img border="0" src="'.$icon_cache['magnify'].'" alt="'.$vbphrase['ll_enlarge_thumb'].'" />','[+]').
'</a>';

Replace it with this:

$linkimgmag = '<a href="local_resize.php?pic='.$linkimg.'&amp;size=600" target="_blank" title="'.$vbphrase['ll_enlarge_thumb'].'">'.
iif(isset($icon_cache['magnify']),'Enlarge Thumbnail <img border="0" src="'.$icon_cache['magnify'].'" alt="'.$vbphrase['ll_enlarge_thumb'].'" />','[+]').
'</a>';

Goto Lines 2378-2400 you'll see this:

$linkfavbit = "";
if ($links_permissions["can_mark_link"]) {
$favicon = iif(isset($icon_cache['myfav']),
'<img class="inlineimg" src="'.mk_file_name($links_defaults[file_icons_dir],'myfav.gif').'" alt="" border="0" />',
'['.iif($linkfav,$vbphrase['ll_ab_favminus'],$vbphrase['ll_ab_favplus']).']');
$linkfavbit = '<a href="'.$LINKS_SCRIPT.'.php?action=dofavlink&amp;id='.$linki d.'&amp;set='.
iif($linkfav,"-1","1").'&amp;catid='.$linkcatid.'&amp;page='.$pagenumber.
'" title="'.iif($linkfav,$vbphrase['ll_myfav_del'],$vbphrase['ll_myfav_add']).'">'.$favicon.'</a>';
if ($linkfav and $viewcatid!=-2) {
$linkfavbit = '<span class="highlight">'.$vbphrase[ll_myfav].'</span> '.$linkfavbit;
}
}

$linkeditbit = "";
if ($links_permissions['can_edit_link'] or $vbulletin->userinfo['userid']==$linkuserid) {
$editicon = iif(isset($icon_cache['pencil']),
'<img class="inlineimg" src="'.mk_file_name($links_defaults[file_icons_dir],'pencil.gif').'" alt="" border="0" />',
'['.$vbphrase['ll_editlc'].']');
$linkeditbit = '<a href="'.$LINKS_SCRIPT.'.php?action=editlink&amp;linkid='.$li nkid.'&amp;catid='.$linkcatid.
'&amp;page='.$pagenumber.'" title="'.$vbphrase['ll_edit'].'">'.$editicon.'</a>';
}

}

Replace it with this:

$linkfavbit = "";
if ($links_permissions["can_mark_link"]) {
$favicon = iif(isset($icon_cache['myfav']),
'Favorite <img class="inlineimg" src="'.mk_file_name($links_defaults[file_icons_dir],'myfav.gif').'" alt="Favorite" border="0" />',
'['.iif($linkfav,$vbphrase['ll_ab_favminus'],$vbphrase['ll_ab_favplus']).']');
$linkfavbit = '<a href="'.$LINKS_SCRIPT.'.php?action=dofavlink&amp;id='.$linki d.'&amp;set='.
iif($linkfav,"-1","1").'&amp;catid='.$linkcatid.'&amp;page='.$pagenumber.
'" title="'.iif($linkfav,$vbphrase['ll_myfav_del'],$vbphrase['ll_myfav_add']).'">'.$favicon.'</a>';
if ($linkfav and $viewcatid!=-2) {
$linkfavbit = '<span class="highlight">'.$vbphrase[ll_myfav].'</span> '.$linkfavbit;
}
}

$linkeditbit = "";
if ($links_permissions['can_edit_link'] or $vbulletin->userinfo['userid']==$linkuserid) {
$editicon = iif(isset($icon_cache['pencil']),
'Edit <img class="inlineimg" src="'.mk_file_name($links_defaults[file_icons_dir],'pencil.gif').'" alt="Edit" border="0" />',
'['.$vbphrase['ll_editlc'].']');
$linkeditbit = '<a href="'.$LINKS_SCRIPT.'.php?action=editlink&amp;linkid='.$li nkid.'&amp;catid='.$linkcatid.
'&amp;page='.$pagenumber.'" title="'.$vbphrase['ll_edit'].'">'.$editicon.'</a>';
}

}

That will add in the associated link text and corrected alt="" portions for the images.

Now use the updated template code:

<tr>
<td colspan="2">
<div style="margin-top:3px">

<table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">

</td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>
</td>
</tr>

I also updated my magnify.gif and removed the excess white space around it. I've attached it here as well as a screen shot of my final template output.

Hope this helps, enjoy.

Installed, awsome plugin. I was wondering if there a preset of categories that I can import, so I don't have to create everyone of them by hand. (sorry I don't want to sound lazy) but I'm busy with few other new sites. Anything to speed things up would be helpful. Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear this. When you obtain a new Arabic translation, maybe you can post it here, so that we can include it as parts of the official release and so avoid the problem in future?

Well ,thanks AndrewD ..I'm trying my best now ,but it's really a hard process to translate it to Arabic ,specially technical terms since there is no official Arabic standard terminology .
But sure ,once I get it done 100% translated I'll give you the first copy of it ;)
One more thing .. this problem has been happening several times to me now with different hacks ,also to note that in every upgrade you to "Allow overwrite" ..so I really don't know ,am I missing something or it's just something I have to take and accept it as it is ?

I think that this is a problem in VB itself, but a couple of people have pointed it out, so I will investigate whether it can be overcomne. The LDM installer is not deliberately erasing phrases (although it does clear out old templates).

Can I use this hack for something like address book?
So, I or my board's user can add address there with or without links to their website.

Is this possible?

I imagine so, for example:
- set the entry name as the person's name
- set the url as their web site, or leave blank
- use the description for the address

in the settings, set allow_null_links

i created a category "Site Links" I am sure you could do the same using a similar if not the same name maybe "Member Pages" and then in the title put their name and in the description any additional info they would like to share...then add the URL and save ;) if they don't have a web site they can add the linkk to their memberlist profile ;) in the URL

It's not like you said, Tyegurl.
I mean, adding some custom fields in each categories.
So member can add link with some more fields.

I think I know what you mean :)

You want to be able to extend the number of fields that LDM handles, for example by defining 'my birthday' and 'address' and 'my favourite car' fields.

Unfortunately, this is not among the features of LDM at the moment. It's on the 'wish list' but it's not likely to be dealt with very soon.

You're way ahead of me (or maybe the other way round) - I've been working on this - fixing the closed category bug and the extra templates so that code changes aren't needed in order to achieve your template layout.

The closed category bug was rather tricky, as there is an intrinsic error in Internet Explorer and some confusion in the other browsers.

A couple of days and we'll be there...

Are you still getting the email messages? I can't see anything wrong, although there are similar reports of lost database connections on the internet.

You can if you want turn off 'hit recording' by setting the LDM admin permission *can_bypass_hit_recording* on for all usergroups.

I guess the million dollar question is how is it possible to do a layout change without a code change? I guess we'll all find out soon, I look forward to it. Beyond that your latest release is working great on my site.

Hrm, I think I found another bug, but I'm not 100% sure. My FAQ is pre-populated with what looks like LDM code in it?
I know for a fact that it WAS working prior to the latest upgrade.

This is what's in my FAQ search box by default:

SELECT link.linkid AS linkid, link.linkname AS linkname, link.linkdoi AS linkdoi, link.linkuserid AS linkuserid, link.linkusername AS linkusername, link.linkurl AS linkurl, link.linkimg AS linkimg, link.linkimgthumb AS linkimgthumb, link.linkforum AS linkforum, link.linkdesc AS linkdesc, link.numrate AS numrate, link.totrate AS totrate, link.linkhits AS linkhits, link.linksize AS linksize, link.linkstatus AS linkstatus, link.linkdate AS linkdate, link.linkmoderate AS linkmoderate, ltoc.catid AS linkcatid, ltoc.displayorder AS linkdorder FROM local_linkslink AS link LEFT JOIN local_linksltoc AS ltoc ON link.linkid = ltoc.linkid WHERE link.linkmoderate = 0 ORDER BY linkdate DESC

I figured it out, it's the left bar I have on every page, because I'm using vBAdvanced with the LDM Module, for some reason it's dumping that string into the search box. I turned the LDM Module off, reloaded the faq.php and viola, no more LDM code in the search box.

Hrm... how to fix that?

Almost certainly the problem is that another vbadvanced module is using a variable that has already been set to this query. I'll bet that it is $q.

Try editing the LDM vba module(s) ldm_hot or ldm_new, and add the following line at the end (immediately after the eval statement)

$q = "";

Let me know, so that I can fix this in the next release.

eval('$home[$mods[\'modid\']][\'content\'] .= "' . fetch_template('adv_portal_custom_ldm_new') . '";');
$q = "";
?>

I added that q line to ldm_new.php and it worked! :) Andrew is the best.

hey andrew!

haven't updated to 2.2 yet (will do this week), but for some reason all New Threads (post to forum plugin) created with new uploads keep showing up as "moderated".

I've been searching FOREVER, looked everywhere, but I can't find the option to turn that off and as far as I can tell... all the permissions are correctly set. ie: shouldn't have to be moderated.

any hints as to what I'm missing? Its gotta be a setting SOMEWHERE.
