11/09/04 - Version 1.04b. Just an installer upgrade, nothing more. Nothing to see here, move along.

10/22/04 - Version 1.04a released. This is not an upgrade from 1.04. If you already have 1.04 installed, don't worry about this. This release just updates the installer and fixes any errors in it. If you had problems installing it last time, this should work better. If you need support, posting it here may get it answered, though posting at the board at GeekyDesigns.com is prefered.

This is the same hack formerly released by Link14716. :)

08/29/04: Shoutbox 1.04 is released, featuring a new installer system (using the Hack Installer System) and redone templates, as well as a few bug fixes. Enjoy. :)

Install Instructions:
NEW INSTALL/UPGRADE FROM 1.03 to Current

1. Upload the contents of the 'upload' folder to your forums directory.
2. Run http://www.yoursite.com/forums/install/hack_install.php
3. Select "Shoutbox Hack" and then follow the instructions to install.
4. Follow the directions in the readme files when it gets to that step, then finalize the install (by clicking the last link in the install).
5. Enjoy your shoutbox!

Matrixgl did a template modification to make the shoutbit more like its vB2 counterpart and released it (tested on 1.03) here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=469200&postcount=199).

Oh yeah! all the shouts are in much more compact order and you can shout right from the forumhome page with no intermediate page. Sweet!! Looks great!!

With this option, you can show a textarea or an input box on forumhome allowing users to shout without going to into the shoutbox first.

For those of you having this issue, re-download the zip and re-upload these two files:

install/hack_install_b1.php
install/hacks/Shoutbox_Hack/14/settings.php

Then in your browser, run http://www.yoursite.com/forums/install/hack_install.php?do=install&step=dosettings&hacks=Shoutbox_Hack&override=1

Let me know if that doesn't solve the problem.

The HIS installer is the manual installer. It doesn't need a seperate installation and is packaged with the hack. Just upload all files and run install/hack_install.php.

Otherwise, this hack would be breaking vB.org's rules. ;)

I've jsut been taking a look at the usergroup settings and theres a table with 10 options yes/no but no text in this area whatsoever.I'm starting to think I may have made a glaring mistake now(tho I'm pretty sure I havent its fairly straightforward)so any help is appreciated.

That doesn't give me much to go on. Give me the full error message.

hack_install.php should automatically create the table if it does not already exist. MySQL error reporting is turned off when the table is queried on the first page in case it doesn't exist.

The uninstall queries: in SQL format for version 1.04. Run these queries in phpMyAdmin:

ALTER TABLE language DROP phrasegroup_shoutbox;

DELETE FROM phrasetype WHERE phrasetypeid=716;

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS shoutbox_posts;

ALTER TABLE usergroup
DROP `shoutboxpermissions`,
DROP `shouthierarchy`,
DROP `shoutmaxdaily`;

ALTER TABLE user

I already have another shoutbox but I like this one better and would like to install it. However, I'm quite new to these things and presume I'd have to delete the one I have installed at the moment.

If this is the case, I have no idea how to do that!

Hi. The shoutbox is almost finished... I just need to figure out what to do so that the names and postscounts show. Right now all the old shouts say "0" as the username. What did I miss?

I did.... everything from the upload folder :P

I redownloaded, reuploaded, and tried to run the install script...... I have NO idea why it doesn't work for me...

I'm running vB 3.0.3, php version 4.3.8, MySQL version 4.0.20-standard

I also tried running the hack_install_b1.php ... that worked fine until after I checked for the install of the shoutbox (of course) and hit install or continue....... it tries to bring up the hack_install.php again and gives me the same stupid error

I already have another shoutbox but I like this one better and would like to install it. However, I'm quite new to these things and presume I'd have to delete the one I have installed at the moment.

I did.... everything from the upload folder :P

I redownloaded, reuploaded, and tried to run the install script...... I have NO idea why it doesn't work for me...

I'm running vB 3.0.3, php version 4.3.8, MySQL version 4.0.20-standard

I also tried running the hack_install_b1.php ... that worked fine until after I checked for the install of the shoutbox (of course) and hit install or continue....... it tries to bring up the hack_install.php again and gives me the same stupid error
What PHP version do you have?

Rename hack_install_b1.php to hack_install.php and use it for now.

Hi. The shoutbox is almost finished... I just need to figure out what to do so that the names and postscounts show. Right now all the old shouts say "0" as the username. What did I miss?

I'm not sure completely though since I'm not a coder and couldn't tell you what could be wrong on the back-end. Best of luck! :)

Actually, the only problem I am having is with reading the usernames from previous shouts and the count total for them. The installation was very simple and I have my shoutbox up and running.

Hi,

I just installed and all was going very well. No errors etc.

Once done, I tried to test it out, but it's simply not there!? The ONLY mention of it that I can find is in the Options dropdown. The "Shoutbox Options" are not visible in my user editor or in the usergroup settings.

What did I miss and how to fix?

(Running vb 3.0.3 and once again I should mention that I there were no errors or complaints of any kind during the setup. The shoutbox is enabled as well as the board.

Please, can anyone make a recommendation on how to proceed.

-EDIT/UPDATE: I have now just attempted a reinstall. Same problem. No complaints during installation. In the Admincp Users and Usergroups options make NO mention of the shoutbox.

The "Vbulletin Options" dropdown menu lists "shoutbox options" however changing any settings here failed to get the shoutbox to actully SHOW UP on the forumhome.

I can point my browser DIRECTLY at the shoutbox.php file on the webserver, and on that page everything works "as advertised".
I just cannot get it to show up on the forumdisplay. Double checked settings.
Cannot access any shoutbox options in user accounts usergroups, they appear as they've always been.

Could anyone PLEASE help!..

Until now i had to delete manually!! ( klick all the boxes ) to delete the shouts.
Unfortunately there is no option to hard delete all shouts at once.

Is there any query i could run which would delete the all the shouts in the table?
Manually sucks:)

I had this same problem then renamed hack_install_b1.php to hack_install.php as suggested to another user. I then had an error towards then end and that user said they ran the queries that was posted on the page before to fix. I did that and well, it didn't work here are the errors i'm having.

I originally had some question on Phrases not appearing - but for some strange reason they just appeared - 3 hours after I posted this - dont ask !

I do have one issue - I noticed new shouts arent appearing on the forum homepage - but they show under shout.php..

Relatively clean vb3.0.3 install.
Full install rather than Upgrade

As far as install - got as far as installing templates click done and then got SQL error for the final step - someone mentioned this wasn't too important as it was just the final success page.

I do not care about that, it just means there is a MySQL error below. If you want support, I NEED to know the MySQL error. Period.

Second, to everyone getting those errors starting with "Warning: readdir(): supplied argument is not a valid Directory resource in /htdocs/www/forum/install/hack_install.php on line 22". I need more information. Web server (probably apache) and version and PHP version. Otherwise it'll be hard for me to fix this since I cannot reproduce this error, and the functions used dates back to PHP3.

Just wanted to add some more details for you.
The issue is with the iframe version of the shoutbox - because if you switch off the iframe you can see the posts.

The last time I had this issue was after upgrading to 1.02 of the hack - Link14716 fixed the issue then released 1.03 - his post on VB was as follows..

Umm....*Confused* My shoutbox doesn't appear on forum home. I can type in forums/shoutbox.php and it'll take me to it. Once I'm there I can type in a shout but it gives me that error up there.

No it doesn't. It has a few errors that affect a minority of the users, and people keep reporting, as well as some MySQL errors that look either like I have a bad query, bad version detection, or it's just user error.

It doesn't let me upgrade
The installer should autodetect whether or not you have 1.03 installed and will uograde instead of doing a fresh install, thus making that query not be ran, and not causing an error.

I need more information. Web server (probably apache) and version and PHP version. Otherwise it'll be hard for me to fix this since I cannot reproduce this error, and the functions used dates back to PHP3.

I'm still waiting for this information from people who have this error so I can investigate - which is kind of hard to do without knowing what causes the error or being able to reproduce it myself.

You cant see any shouts - if you shout nothing appears...
If you check shoutbox.php - they are there...
Also - if you use the static/manual mode - then you can see shouts and post shouts...

ive sort of got it working bby carrying on with the rest of the install , and also ive tried to delete the tables as shown on page 5 but when i goto edit settings in group manager i get sql errors, when i got post a shout i get mysql errors too.

hope someone can help, might end up uninstalling this otherwise.

Little embaressed here - but after a bit of fault finding with another member of staff - seems the iframe not working was just me...
Very quickly I realised my Nortons firewall was killing the iframe as it though it was a popup window...

In my ADMINCP, I do not see and SHOUTBOX drop down menu on the left side, I have found in ADMIN PERMISSIONS that there is a blank with a yes/no check box.

I have installed and uninstalled BVShoutbox FULL about 50 times in the past 2 weeks and failed to get it to work. I HAVE however managed to get yours to work, its just the ADMINPC permissions are missing. Thanks for such an easy to install hack and for actually giving support, unlike the last hack i mentioned.

I am running VB 3.0.1 is this the cause? or should I uninstall and reinstall the tables?

Hi,

I just installed and all was going very well. No errors etc.

Once done, I tried to test it out, but it's simply not there!? The ONLY mention of it that I can find is in the Options dropdown. The "Shoutbox Options" are not visible in my user editor or in the usergroup settings.

What did I miss and how to fix?

(Running vb 3.0.3 and once again I should mention that I there were no errors or complaints of any kind during the setup. The shoutbox is enabled as well as the board.

Please, can anyone make a recommendation on how to proceed.

-EDIT/UPDATE: I have now just attempted a reinstall. Same problem. No complaints during installation. In the Admincp Users and Usergroups options make NO mention of the shoutbox.

The "Vbulletin Options" dropdown menu lists "shoutbox options" however changing any settings here failed to get the shoutbox to actully SHOW UP on the forumhome.

I can point my browser DIRECTLY at the shoutbox.php file on the webserver, and on that page everything works "as advertised".
I just cannot get it to show up on the forumdisplay. Double checked settings.
Cannot access any shoutbox options in user accounts usergroups, they appear as they've always been.

Could anyone PLEASE help!..

We installed it on our developemnt forums, on fresh forums (with no errors) and on matthews live forum with no issues.

We have 127 pages on uCS release thread, im sure there are TONS of people who had issues installing, mostly due to user error :) a very small percentage of which are actually the installers issue.

the installer works fine on linux and windows on php 4.3.8 we don't know why people are getting specific errors but we are working on fixing them.

Upgrade from TWTCommish Shoutbox hack.

I have sucessfully installed and got the shouts transferred to the new Hack, but the last step (?do=update) takes forever and URL Redirect timeout after a long period. I guess the reason is cause we have alot of shouts, and that the update procedure just takes too long time.
Is there any possible to work this out?
I'm not sure what the update procedure does.
Only thing I have figured out is it updates the username fields from the userid in the table.

The uninstall queries: in SQL format for version 1.04. Run these queries in phpMyAdmin:

ALTER TABLE language DROP phrasegroup_shoutbox;

DELETE FROM phrasetype WHERE phrasetypeid=716;

ALTER TABLE usergroup
DROP `shoutboxpermissions`,

Now re-install.

Tried to uninstall so I could reinstall in attempt to get permissions to show up in adminpc.
did not uninstall properly, errored out, so I ran the above queries in phpMyAdmin. Undid all the file changes and then tried to reinstall.
But the installer is still showing that I have shoutbox 1.04 currently installed and will not reinstall?

well i got this to work in the end, im no expert and pretty new to php/sql

it seems when i installed vbindex and a previous shoutbox mod after uninstalling them it left behind tables in the sql database.

Use phpmyadmin and search for shout, or shoutbox and delete everything under these names, i had to do around 5 or 6 deletes before running the installer again to get it to work.

if you miss one of the tables to delete, the installer will not work and you will get the duplicate error message again when u install, so you have to REDO your deletes. justkeep searching in phpmyadmin. if a noob like me can do it then im sure you guys can

this just ruined my board!! what the hell... how can i take this back out? i can't get any access to any of the files that are in my forum, or that access any forum files... the templates must have gotten messed up. oh man!!!! this is big trouble... i didn't backup any of the templates... i didn't know there was a hack that could mess up your entire board like this.

This hack cannot and will not ruin your board, if your having issues browsing to files on your server it is not due to anything that our installer or file changes may have done, try reuploading fresh files. Does this work? Did your host change dns servers, or recompile php and it crashed?

Seeing that you are saying pages outside of your forums folder are not displaying correctly this indicates its a server related issue, PLEASE dont accuse us of somthing not working when it is clearly a server related issue.

i strongly appologize. but only pages that ran php that was directly linked to the board didn't work, all the other pages did work, that's why i figured it could have only have to do with the hack, luckily it solved it self, so i figure maybe the mysql messed up puttign together the tables or somethin.

I have done all user permissions and everything and still can't see a thing where I can delete or edit shouts.

I had the same problem previously but it wasn't with the hack. It was with my Norton's popup blocker. Once I turned it off it ended the problem. I just use another popup blocker instead.

So, is there anyway I can just have the shoutbox refresh after I posted a message on the homepage instead of the whole page refreshing, or as the other guy said, make it so when you press submit it automatically refreshes and takes you back to the bottom of the page instead of scrolling down to the shoutbox again.
So far Debbi, Wapture and I all have problems with the Shoutbox on the index page refreshing the entire page (as opposed to just the iframe) when a Shout is posted.

Perhaps this has something to do with one of XP SP2's patchy little security fixes (like the annoying locking of the status bar).

I would be happy if I could get the darn permissions to show up properly!
I have uninstalled, reinstalled, checked and rechecked, posted on 2 sites, and no answers what so ever.

I can honestly say I'm having no problems with the Shoutbox except for the page refreshing on the index when a shout is posted from there. I did have some problems with the install and had to go into phpMyAdmin and manually remove everything pertaining to the Shoutbox and then reinstall it. After that all was well.

You need to go into the database via phpmyadmin and do the following:

go into table: language
Delete the field: phrasegroup_shoutbox

go into table: phrasetype
Delete the field id: 716 (do a search on it if you can't find it.)

delete table: shoutbox_posts

Go into table: usergroup
Delet the fields: shoutboxpermissions, shouthierarchy, shoutmaxdaily

go into table: user
delete the fileds: shouts, shoutbanned

Then retry your installer (backup your database first, just in case)

I have the very same problem. Perhaps it is caused by a previous failed installation? (I did find a shoutbox.php in the forum folder). If so, how do I uninstall?

:rolleyes: that is not the very same problem, that is the standard error message when there is an issue with vBulletin doing somthing with the database.

That's because it is checked at the top of the file.

I'm going to have to check it on forumhome as well, though I thought it was checked there.
