I installed this mod. .I have my admincp in a differant folder name .. Is there something I have to modify to make this shout box work.. at the end of installing it I get a error.. I remember modding a file a long time ago installing this mod but now I can't remember where I have to change the link to the admincp.. Please help

I tried running the installer with just doing the styles and I get a error when I start up the chat room.. Here it is..

okay install went fine but i have a couple minor design issues.

1.how do i change the horizontal lines they look like crap
2. how can i change the Shout input button to match the style of post box. i do not like the white . i have my post box in ie where its blue but this is white
3, the background of the shoutbox on forum home i am taking it is following the background of the page how can i manually eidt these options so i can custimize it to fit my forum besides that great work.

Okay i installed it and it works great *** clicks install ***
i have a question now.........is there anyway to fix the refresh so after making a shout the whole page does not refresh and you have to start at the top of the page to get back to the shoutbox.............i just want the shoutbox to refresh.......any ideas?

I just upgraded to 3.0.7 and I'm having a problem with the shout box. If I direct link to it then it's fine but on the main forum page it shows up like this:

The people at GeekyDesigns Board said that you can use the installer to reinstall the templates. (Use the override feature on the installer). That worked for me, but only if I don't use an IFrame, or it doesn't work on IE. On Mozilla, both work.. so go figure.

instead of putting the code on the forumhome template put the code at the bottom of the navbar template(For shoutbox at top of page below the navbar) or put the code at the begining of the footer template(for Shoutbox at bottom of page above the footer)

yes you did miss the instructions, you have to add it to your forumhome template

Ok I uploaded the files and double checked to see they were all there. Ran the installation but I did not see where to make any changes to any files/templates. Therefore I do not see the shoputbox on the forum or in my admincp. I am sure I missed something along the way so how do I go back and find what I need ?

Requests:

* Can I show the number of shouts a member has made in their postbit?
* Can I increase the number of top shouters shown on the leaderboard area?
(figured this on out - in the shoutbox settings in vbulletin options I could increase the number of people shown on the leaderboard)

Also, when I go to shoutbox.php, and try to use the advanced window to add colors and different sizes, the autocontrols dont work. If i physically type the code in, it does, but I can't use the drop down selection boxes like i can in a post

Has anyone gotten this to stop counting a users shouts if they keep submitting them (even though they have a max of, say, 10 shouts a day)?

If they keep submitting shouts (even though they won't DISPLAY) their counter just continues to go up and up and up making the leaderboard useless.. ;)

The contents of the upload folder is an "install" folder and a "shoutbox.php". Just place them in your fourms folder.

ok. I see it now. I also use SmartFTP and when I drop a folder to my FTP site it creates that folder and all subfolders for me. Try again just dropping the folder.

Quick question.

When I am uploading to my Forums Directory, do I just transfer the entire Upload folder or do I open that folder and upload each thing into it's resepcted area? I tried to upload the folder (and all it's contents) just the way it is, but I don't think that's right. Before I go and upload each individual thing in the Uploads folder, I thought I would ask first.

I uploaded all the files into my install folder in my root directory. The I uploaded the shoutbox.php into the root itself also. Installed the hack and seemed to go good. Have the shoutbox settings in admincp and saw the new templates were installed. I look at my forums and it does not appear. No shoutbox or change to anything at all. The shoutbox is enabled in the settings and all settings seem to be ok. Anybody have a clue why this is happening? Thanx in advance....:)

I have disabled BB codes. But when a user types in a URL in the shoutbox, it still uses the [url] tags. How do I disable this from happening (only in the shoutbox) as well?

Hi, great hack you have here and I installed it with no problems at all and it has worked amazingly since. I just have one problem and it isn't a big one but I would like to know if it can be sorted.

In the attachment you can see in the user profile that if the person is in the shoutbox or forum index you cannot see where they are, unknown location. Is there anyway this can be fixed.

umm... mine wouldn't even get past the first step... i tried even running the files after a fresh re-installation of vb with the database being fully emptied... i have this hack on my old one it just won't let me install it now... o.O

I just installed this on a fresh installation of 3.0.7 and it works perfectly. Ran through the installer with no problems. Just remember to make the edits to your php files once the installer is done.

Directions of what to edit in what file can be found on a link on the last page of the installer process.

All done and working with no issues!

Are you using php 5? This hack wouldn't install on php 5.0.4. Those are the same errors I got. It does run on php 5 just won't install. I had to downgrade to php 4.3.10 to get it installed. Once installed I switched back to 5.0.4 and the hack works fine with vb 3.0.7.

You have renamed your admincp directory. To fix for the installation and all future installs of hacks that are distributed with the HIS installer do the following:

Go to your 'install/his_files' directory.
Rename 'hack_config_default.php' to 'hack_config.php'.
Open this file with an editor and change the value for $admincpdir to the location of your admincp directory.

If you set this to option #1, then users can edit other users with the same hierarchy rank (default). If you set it to option #2, then users can not edit users with the same hierarchy rank.

This means that you already had it installed. You are trying to run the installer again and it tries to add a column that is already there.

Try removing the column first from the language table.

I saw people here had had similar problems, and tried the previously suggested SQL queries to uninstall, as a prelude to reinstalling. The queries were:

ALTER TABLE usergroup

Step 1. (Optional) Edit the attached file and change 50 to whatever you want (you can leave it at 50 if that number is ok with you)

The 50 is at the end of this line...

That number (50 in this case), controls how many shouts are left in your database after this script runs

Step 2. (Optional) Save the file. (if u did step 1)

Add a new scheduled task as shown in the attached images.
Change it to whatever suits you.

you need to copy over all the templates that are from the shoutbox to the new skin
then modify the stock vb templates with the changes the shoutbox makes...like to forumhome, etc

you can also download the xml files for each style and use a file compare utitilty to merge the changes in the older style to the newer style

then just upload the modified xml file, overwriting the style

there's a hack here that will allow you to edit one style and have the changes applied to all the styles
this is a must if ur in the habit of modifying templates and want them applied to all styles
or u can use child styles :)

I am refering to the white form where you enter the text to shout. My board is dark and the white really stands out and is distracting, thanks for the fast responce, hopefully youll know how to do this as well so I am one more step to going live.

the class name is bginput

not sure if the form element IN THE SHOUTBOX has that class applied
if not just add class="bginput" to <input type="text" name="message".....
this will affect any text input form on your site

to give u an idea mine is

a shout is just like a post, bb codes will display the same behaviour

i wish someone would come up with a way where if urls are disabled then nothing gets displayed or the url is replaced with some wording that urls are not allowed

i would like this for image tags as well

if it passed the regex test then u get the image or url displayed
if it doesnt pass, something else is inserted into the post or shout

like, not a valid image - not a valid url

Thanks a lot for this!! Is there a way to tweak it a bit, so that for instance, the first shout uses css class alt1, then the second, uses alt2, third uses alt1, fourth uses alt2 class etc?

It would also be nice to get the shouts on forum home into a seperate div tag or something, so that each shout is perfectly left aligned together. Would make it more tidy.

The problem is we all do the file edits but there is a conflict with this hack and 3.0.7 i dont know how you managed to keep this m-working. You must did an extra step from us or because you installed in previous version. But right now with the file edit instructions and etc.. this mod is now working with 3.0.7

The main problem is WHERE usergroupid=6

Download the attachment in this post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=26425)
run the sql queries from phpmyadmin

after download the shoutbox zip from this thread and replace the attached queries file with the one that comes inside the zip file. Upload the files and donot forget to replace the attached queries.php
After the installation you are ready to go :)

It may but i can't give any promise to you. Did you check your file edit in init.php ?
and also did you do your file edits in admincp/user.php and admincp/usergroup.php ?

This is goin too sound to noob like...but im so lost... Im an admin to a forum but I dont have any chance of getting to the codes or anything... The first step says

to go to 1. Upload the contents of the 'upload' folder to your forums directory.

I cant even find my forums directory in the admin Panel...Is it there or not? After I have that I should be fine. But thanks for any of the help.

Don't uninstall it. Just make your file edits. Run the sql files through phpmyadmin and make sure you'll check them all. If they give you an error dont worry because the table is already over there. fter finshing the file edits and sql files run the installer and install the hack. After these steps you cn sit back and use your shoutbox.

Ive had the shoutbox hack installed for almost two years now and this morning out of nowhere, they were all gone.

We posted a few more, I checked again and they are gone.

Sounds like the same problem a lot of people are having. Unless someone says otherwise, chances are this hack is no longer supported by the developer.

Edit the Iframe size in your forum home header template. Just look around for height somewhere in the Shoutbox code.

Goto your AdminCP and look at the Usergroups..click that and check each usergrounp out ie: member

THen scroll unstil you see something about the shoutbox, change it to yes..

just go into your shout.txt file and clear it out when you want to, thats it! As for delete/edit, this is a very generic shoutbox and you can't do that, as far as I know of, or maybe just go into you shout.txt and change the shout there and save it....Hmmmmm Ill have to give that a try myself. I was hoping when I found this program and posted it here, that someone would step up and make something of it to work better with vB....we are still waiting....

Also, why is it that there are 50 pages of posts and Not One Support Person is trying to fix this problem. In BIG RED BOLD LETTERS its gives you a link for support, yet at that site, they don't offer support either!!!

There is a cron file somewhere, not sure if it's here or vBa that will prune shouts for you. Search for shoutbox and you'll find it, that's how I did.

I want to relate some info I found, the hard way. With newer versions of MySQL the queries for the install of this hack fail. I have attached a file to correct this. If you already ran the install and got to the failure, which says something like "Invalid Default Value '0'," you should comment out the first two queries before running it again. The settings and phrases will not give you problems. Replace the existing file in /install/hacks/shoutbox/14 or something similar.

This only solves the one problem, and I don't purport to know how to fix any others. But I did miss this info somewhere around post 500 in this ridiculously long thread. And I agree, most of these posts wouldn't be here if the people who wrote this fixed it and or it's instructions.

when uploading files, index.php would be your forum home right (not a portal)? So I could call it: forums.php if that's what my forums were located at? Or would I want to edit it to have all our modifications in?

EDIT: It's not forum home. May I ask what it is as I've uploaded everything in the 14 folder except for it. And does it need to be named that?

If you read the directions, the uploads go to /install/. . . with the exception of shoutbox.php AFAIK.

As I posted earlier, there is a cron hack to do it for you.

Ok my support issue, it seems that when someone presses enter or clicks Shout Now, it sends that user to /shoutbox.php which is just a white screen, any reason why that is?
