As I posted earlier, there is a cron hack to do it for you.

Search here and/or vba.com for shoutbox and you'll see one about "Auto Prune"

There will not be a cron job for this hack...I found this hack and its very very generic...it does not even us sql! You have to manually goto shout.txt and delete the contents to clear all shouts.....

Just a small thing. Shoutbox is installed and working well. Thanks for the good hack.

However there is one thing that annoys me, the 200 ok screen pops up when ever someone shouts in there. I was wandering if there was any way to get rid of this?

There is a cron file somewhere, not sure if it's here or vBa that will prune shouts for you. Search for shoutbox and you'll find it, that's how I did.

I want to relate some info I found, the hard way. With newer versions of MySQL the queries for the install of this hack fail. I have attached a file to correct this. If you already ran the install and got to the failure, which says something like "Invalid Default Value '0'," you should comment out the first two queries before running it again. The settings and phrases will not give you problems. Replace the existing file in /install/hacks/shoutbox/14 or something similar.

This only solves the one problem, and I don't purport to know how to fix any others. But I did miss this info somewhere around post 500 in this ridiculously long thread. And I agree, most of these posts wouldn't be here if the people who wrote this fixed it and or it's instructions.

I just installed the Shoutbox hack and I received no errors throughout the installation, but the shoutbox is not showing up on my forum page.. :ermm:

The shoutbox options are available in my AdminCP and everything appears to be set correctly..

As a side note, I do have vbPortal installed..

Any ideas??

Make sure once you finished doing the edits instructed in the installer that you finished doing installation. I had done the file edits from the installer and the template edits and by the time i was done i forgot i had not finished install. I went back and finished and it was working fine.

Also thanks for this after at leats 15 tries i have installed correctly at my site but all my users can see the shoutbox in ie but i cant. I have updated my media and java, flash and all my windows update. ITs blank with the color of the background covering the shouts. I see it fine in firefox. Anyone know how to fix this? Also if this info help vbradio also will not work on this computer but it does for everyone else and it plays on my laptop. I just bought this system and im running XP media center SP2. Extra info if it helps and thanks in advance!

@Doctor_Who - check your Usergroup permissions for yourself and you will probably find that your group has Shoutbox set to Off at the moment, you need to turn it on..:)

@d-mac - you already have the column 'phrasegroup_shoutbox' in your db, so remove it and then retry install of db files again.

Replace the query file with this one attached into the install/hacks/shoutboxhack/14 folder, which was posted earlier in this thread, hit the back button and then continue, which should fix your problem..:)

you have to edit your forumhome templet

I have this installed on two sites, identical except one is running 3.0.1 and one is on 3.0.7. The 3.0.1 one runs great, shout box works like I want.

3.0.7 puts the entire shoutbox.php file inside of the shoutbox, instead of just the shouts?

Any ideas on why this might happen?

Okay, I recently upgraded my Vb from 3.0.3 to 3.0.7, for some reason however, I have not lost the hack, but on my forum index it does not display the shouts all the time, sometimes it simply appears blank, any ideas what could be causing this?

Make the changes to whatever you renamed your original index.php which is probably forums.php now.

OK, have had the shout box installed on my forum VB 3.0.3 for sometime now. I'm running 1.04 according to the php shout box file.

everything has worked out great, only issue I have had since the beginning is not being able to delete/edit shouts. I have all options checked in the control panel to allow mods and admins to delete/edit yet I still cant do it.

I have attached the shoutbox.php file that I am currently using and if anyone can take a look through it and see if something isnt right or that I need to change some codes, please advise.

Yes, I think this is caused by the fact I upgraded my board from VB3.0.3 to vb3.0.7 last week and since then it seems to have disappeared, I looked in my phrases and there are a lot, so why would this one disappear? How do I fix this?

Thanks I uploaded file ran installer and everything went fine....
after inputing where i wanted shout box to show hitting save and refreshing browser hey presto my shout box..

That's the reason for my reply! As I said works fine for me and not the choice of the board to remove a hack just cause you can't get it to work!

I handled it my self the previous error. i just made shoutid not auto_increment and it worked.

Replace the query file with this one attached into the install/hacks/shoutboxhack/14 folder, which was posted earlier in this thread, hit the back button and then continue, which should fix your problem..:)

Running this hack on vb 3.0.7 and all seemed to go well on install (no error messages)
and the shoutbox appears to be running as it should. BUT i do seem to be missing a few features, soft/hard delete etc. (it is enabled in usergroup permissions)

also the shoutbox options dropdown dont work (nothing there when you drop it)

Im new to all this so forgive what might be newbie questions ;) i have searched here for days and not found the answers.

Durring install you get the option to generate files. After selecting this it creates, templates.php phrases.php and settings.php if i click Save this file nothing appears to happen? am i missing something here or do i have to manually save these somewere ? if not were are they saved so i can check they are there.

again sorry for the newbie questions but any help with this would be nice :)

hi i just wanted to state i have dled and installed this hack and it work's great on my site and all my member's love the shout box... i was just woundering if there is a way to have all the screennames conected to there user group color and show in the shout box... i just think it's alittle plain myself and i would love to have the member's group color's shown on there name when they type in shout..

and the shoutbox appears to be running as it should. BUT i do seem to be missing a few features, soft/hard delete etc. (it is enabled in usergroup permissions)

also the shoutbox options dropdown dont work (nothing there when you drop it)

Im new to all this so forgive what might be newbie questions ;) i have searched here for days and not found the answers.

Durring install you get the option to generate files. After selecting this it creates, templates.php phrases.php and settings.php if i click Save this file nothing appears to happen? am i missing something here or do i have to manually save these somewere ? if not were are they saved so i can check they are there.

again sorry for the newbie questions but any help with this would be nice :)

i have installed this hack and work's great but i was woundering if there is a way to make the user names the same color in shout as they arein site... basiclly like a user group color mod for shout... so who ever is placed in a group has there own color on site and also it will show in shout... instead of the defalt color
i am running 3.0.7

Too much to go through... Too bad too..

I installed this hack an had NO problems with it.... Another hack did some damage that I tried to repair only to find the shoutbox was messed up... After going through 30 pages, I gave up on trying to find a way to fully get rid of the mysql queries so that I can reinstall.... I took out the ones I could find but still get errors trying to reinstall... Database errors that is....

I really did like this hack when worked..

Shame that the uninstaller doesn't work...

I believe this hack is installed on a forum I took over a while ago. When I say believe it's because I have no way to know for sure. The hack is certainly not functioning, but a blank space shows up in the list of vBulletin options and clicking on it gets the atatched (defunct) control-panel. Can anyone confirm that this is indeed this shoutbox hack, please?

I am currently running vB 3.6.4 and it's of course not part of the products/plugins. Also, all files have been updated so it's not to be found in any file-edits. Thus it must rest solely in the database I presume, or am I wrong?

Anyhow, any advice on how to get 100% rid of this "shoutbox" would be very appreciated. Thanks.

"Shoutbox Hack Installtion Edits"
as it is not possible to rerun the installation script (error)
I doN't know which files to edit.

would be nice if someone could post the edits in a txt file.
