A nice feature of vBadvanced Homepage is that it is optimized and designed for large web sites. vBadvanced Homepage performs only 5 queries with all the options turned off. Some options will cause the script to perform extra queries, but even with all the options turned on it still performs only 17 queries at max.
Here is a list of each extra function that will cause extra queries:
News - 1 query
Latest Threads - 1 query
Poll - 1 query (2 if the user has voted)
User's Avatar - 1 query
Buddy List and/or Online Users - 1 query
Mini Calendar - 3 queries (none for the simple calendar)
Stats - 2 queries
New Posts - 1 query

Probably because the new version uses a string replace function to replace paths in a few different places. ;)
And to be honest, I didn't even know that there was an issue with the CSS files... It just happens I was using the string replace for something else, and it also affects the stylesheets. ;)

Great job!

I thought about adding the number of queries that each option will generate, but ended up deciding just to list them in the readme & here in the post. I may add that to future versions though.
As far as adding more custom templates, there's really not much of a point... The code from the custom templates can easily be copied and added into the index template. If someone really needed options to turn them on/off, then the settings could be added, and a conditional thrown around the code in the index template. The only reason the 2 custom templates are still there now is for people that have one or two blocks where the content might change often. The info being in seperate templates obviously makes it a little easier to find and modify the content quickly. ;)
Xanthine - The error you are getting is probably caused by entering the path to your forums incorrectly. Can you post the entire chdir line here?

Add what? There aren't any modifications to that file... To change the options and such you go to your Admin CP => vBulletin Options => vBadvanced Homepage Settings (should be the last set). The templates are with the rest of the vBulletin templates, listed under Index. ;)

Also, I was just thinking, when I was reading the instructions, it sais in there:
If you plan to use the mini-calendar option, you should make the following change to your includes/functions_calendar.php:
Find:
function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '')
{
global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar;
Replace it with:
function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '', $dontshowweek = '0')
{
global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $vboptions;
But I cant actuly find that exact wording. I did find:
function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '')
{
global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $show, $offset, $colspan, $days, $months, $show;
Is it the same thing? Just maybe instruction from an older version or somthing? It kinda confused me :p

Snowbot - What version of vBulletin are you running? The names of the days are not showing on your regular calendar either, so my guess would be that you're missing some calendar phrases...
Forkman - Yes, that was the correct place to modify the functions_calendar.php file. Apparently they added some new global variables to that function... Thanks for pointing that out - I just updated the zip. ;)
Blue Storm - Try changing your cookie domain under the main vBulletin options section to ".yoursite.com" (without the quotes). The default setting seems to work for most people, but that seems to be necessary for some (which is why it's covered in the FAQ section in the readme ;)).
Blue Storm

Ah, good-o it worked. I take it you wont be wanting your account there?
Just another thing, any chance of adding some stuff to a later version such as the ability to have all blocks to one side, a forum link somewhere on the main page, explanation on how to make and use the new template stuff it keeps refering too?
Tigga
01-07-2004, 12:39 PM
Glad that worked. And no, I probably won't be needed the account there. ;)
As far as moving the blocks to one side, that should be fairly easy to do by modifying the index template. Everything in that template is commented, so it shouldn't be too hard to move things around. Adding a forum link somewhere can be done by modifying the templates as well... I'm not sure if that will ever be something standard since everyone has a different style and would most likely want the link in a different place.
explanation on how to make and use the new template stuff it keeps refering too?
Are you talking about the feature that allows you to replace the news posts with other content? If so, there's a small section in the readme file (under the "Setting the Options" section) that covers that. If it doesn't make sense or you're having problems figuring that out let me know... Or if I'm just missing your point completely and you're talking about something else let me know as well. ;)

Hey Tigga, just a couple of things. I didn't see it in the instructions, but you need to modify the links in index_footer for admincp and modcp or they won't work.
Second, I think the latest threads are displaying posts for an admin group that regular users are able to see and respond to. I only noticed, because i received a few responses to a post i sent to other admins. I have disables the group from displaying, but i did like the fact you are only supposed to see what your permissions allow.
Any one else have this problem?

paratek - Thanks for pointing out the incorrect links in the footer. I'll be sure to fix that in the next version. ;)
I'm not sure I follow you about the permissions thing... You said that regular users are able to see and respond to the posts, so what would be the problem with them being displayed on the homepage?

Installed it; everything's working wonderfully, although I did have a question: how would I make more than one custom side block? It's probably really obvious, but I didn't see it in the Read Me file.
Also, I was just thinking, when I was reading the instructions, it sais in there:
But I cant actuly find that exact wording. I did find:

I saw the same thing with mine, so what what I did is look closely at the changes between the two and add whatever's new. So I'd add $dontshowweek = '0' on the first line and $vboptions on the second, making sure it's in the same style as the rest of the stuff. Worked for me.

Snowbot - Try uploading an un-hacked version of functions_calendar.php into your forum/includes folder and see if that makes a difference. That will add the arrows back and make the calendar slightly wider than the rest of the blocks, but you should try that to test and see if it's a problem with the file, or if you are somehow missing the calendar phrases.
The Quibbler - To add more custom blocks, just copy the content from one of the other custom blocks and then paste it into your index template where you would like it to appear. ;)
The Quibbler
01-07-2004, 03:44 PM
I guess I do have one other problem with it that I just discovered. I made a new template called 'index_links', to try making a page for the site; when I go to adv_index.php?page=links, I get this error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: parse_bbcode() in /home/quibbler/public_html/adv_index.php on line 553
Tigga
01-07-2004, 04:09 PM
Ahh, good find... If you'll look in your adv_index.php file for this line of code:
include('./includes/functions_bbcodeparse.php');
Remove that and paste it right below this line instead:
require_once('./global.php');
That should fix the problem. :)
The Quibbler
01-07-2004, 04:21 PM
Ah, that fixed it :)
One last question: if I was going to link to a page of content in a side block, what would I link to? Just "?page=links"? That's what I do for my current non-vbulletin home page; it's got a similar content system. But with vB, if someone came to adv_index.php?referrerid=1, wouldn't going to ?page=links and taking off the ?referrerid=1 cause the referrer to not get the credit if they register later?
Or is that not how it works?
SnowBot

In the install file it says
Find:
function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '')
{
global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar;
Replace it with:
function construct_calendar_output($today, $usertoday, $calendarinfo, $fullcalendar = 0, $weekrange = '', $dontshowweek = '0')
{
global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $vboptions;
But that code isnt there, its now changed to
global $birthdaycache, $eventcache, $bbuserinfo, $vbphrase, $stylevar, $show, $offset, $colspan, $days, $months, $show, $vboptions;
so what do i change the file to now? Can you update the install instructions also so other know? :)

Tigga
01-07-2004, 05:22 PM
Quibbler - I'm not quite sure what you mean by the content in side blocks... Could you maybe give me an example of what you're talking about?
I'm honestly not too familiar with the way the referrer system works since that's not something I use. I'm pretty sure though that as long as the visitor uses the link containing "referrerid=X" when they first visit your site that everything will still work. I know a visitor can visit the site, browse threads, and then sign up, so it shouldn't be a problem if they visit other parts as well. It may not hurt to test it out though. ;)
SnowBot - Ok, I figured that was it. I assume you saw that the zip file was updated earlier today, so if you download that and re-apply the file change to functions_calendar.php it should fix the problem.

Apparently I missed a small part in one of the temlate modifications. I know I had it fixed and working before, but I guess I forgot to update the template.txt file, included the wrong one with the zip, or something... Either way, if you'll change your calendar_smallmonth_header template to the following it will fix the problem.
<if condition="$dontshowweek">
<td class="tcat" colspan="$colspan" align="left"><span class="smallfont"><b>$vboptions[blockbullet]
<else />
<td class="tcat" colspan="$colspan" align="center"><b>
</if><a href="calendar.php?$session[sessionurl]month=$month&year=$year&c=$calendarid&do=displaymo nth">$monthname $year</a></td>
</tr>
<tr align="center">
<if condition="!$dontshowweek"><td class="thead"> </td></if>
<if condition="$show['day1']"><td class="thead">$day1</td></if>
<if condition="$show['day2']"><td class="thead">$day2</td></if>
<if condition="$show['day3']"><td class="thead">$day3</td></if>

I actually posted the wrong setting anyways (sorry, trying to do too many things at once ;)). You should make sure that your "Homepage URL" is set to "http://www.nextdictator.com/" and your "Forum URL" is set to "http://www.nextdictator.com/forums/". As long as those settings are correct you shouldn't have any problems.

I'm not sure I follow you about the permissions thing... You said that regular users are able to see and respond to the posts, so what would be the problem with them being displayed on the homepage?
Because regular users don't have access to those forums so they should not be able to see those posts on the latest post page.
Also, when i click on the calendar it is pointing to the wrong url. where would i change that?
and lastly, how would i go about putting php code in the custom box? Something like a server status block for a gaming server etc.

Sarge - I have no idea how that could have happened... All you did was modify the URL's in the vB options section? About the best thing I could suggest would be to upload the original, unhacked files to your site and see if that makes a difference. If not, the only other thing I could think of is something you put in one of those fields is causing it. If that's the case, about the only way to fix it would be to manually edit those things in the datastore table in your database.
paratek - I'm about to send you a PM regarding the permissions...
The calendar URL can be fixed by looking in your calendar_smallmonth_header template, finding calendar.php, and adding $vboptions[bburl]/ in front of it.
You can't put php code in any of the custom templates... You can put the code in the adv_index.php file and use the variables in the custom templates though, or you can use vBulletin's conditionals.

Faranth.....I understand that. I am trying to figure out how he RESPONDED to a post... That he should not have been able to. He told me he responded to it through the "Latest Threads Block" . Once he posted his reply, he was not allowed to view the forum, but it still appeared on the "Latest Threads block"
My permissions are set correctly. I checked within minutes of him making the post.

If your permissions are set correctly, then there's no way he could have made the post. The latest threads section of this script has nothing to do with someone's ability to reply to a post - only view it. You should double check that the "Use Custom Permissions" radio button at the top of the permissions page is checked as that seems to be a very common mistake. Something HAS to be set incorrectly if that person was able to respond to a thread like that.

Open the index_navbar template and search for the link that you want to put your new link next to. I think the Home links is commented out with <-- so you can remove that comment, or copy that and create a new one with the link of your desire.

Rids, I did the same thing. I left the period in the forums direct path in the config.php file and it took me about an hour to find the proplem.
Dan,
Make sure you set up a forum called news and a forum called polls and place a test thread in each one. Also make sure that the news and poll forum ID number is placed in your advanced home options page.
I also have one question, when you install the hack it gives you the option to set the correct URL to your image folders. I need to change the url path again because my news icons(icons.icon1.gif) are not displaying correctly. Where do I change this path at?
**Update - Thanks Tigga, I changed the path on options>thread display options and it works.

Texas & Snowbot - The script uses vBulletin's default navbar, so if you wanted to add a link to the forums there it would need to be added to your navbar template. If you only wanted the link to be displayed on your homepage you could add an if condition like this around the code for the link.
<if condition="$index_header">
(Kind of a cheap way to do it, but it works :p)
Blackbeard - You have to change the image paths to /forums/images
Dan - As Jeff said, you have to create a news forum and make a post in there before the newsbits will work.
Jeff - If you're talking about the default icon that is displayed if no icon is selected, that's listed in your main vBulletin options => Thread Display Options => Show Default Post Icon. Did you change the path at all during that part of the install? The script *should* be able to determine the correct path and update that for you in most cases, so I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem with that part. ;)
Symbian - Currently it will display the thumbnail of an image if you have image resizing turned on. Otherwise it displays a link to the file/image. If you wanted to change that you would need to modify the file and remove all of the code for the attachments except for the part that actually displays the images. If that was done though, you wouldn't be able to attach files other than image files in your news posts.

A request. How about a custom block to your newsforum as links and when you click on them they not only display the news but under that a react system where reply's kan be added so...you have a newsitem and under it a display of instant reactions.
Tigga
01-08-2004, 01:46 PM

Nuclion - I'm not sure I completely follow you here... Are you basically saying you want to display the replies to a news post under that post on the homepage?
NuclioN
01-08-2004, 01:55 PM
Yes but not as the reply's in the forum itself, more a very simple reply system maybe even a reply mini bbs as a third party addon that displays short instant reactions on the mainpage. They are only visible when you click a newslink and then a visitor has the option to reply on that specific newsitem. :)

Tigga
01-08-2004, 02:45 PM
Nuclion - Something like that would be possible, but I don't think it will be a default feature anytime soon.
Jeff - Why not just copy one of the custom templates and then add the code in the index template where you'd like it to appear? ;)
jeff225
01-08-2004, 03:02 PM
I can do it that way Tigga but I wanted to keep it organized. I'm integrating your program with other custom databases and I wanted to keep it as organized as possible.
Tigga
01-08-2004, 03:08 PM
Ahhh, ok. Well the easiest way to do that would be to look in your adv_index.php file for this code:
eval('print_output("' . fetch_template('index') . '");');
Right above that add:
eval('$custom3 = "' . fetch_template('index_custom3') . '";');
Then create a new template called "index_custom3" and just add $custom3 in your index template. And of course if you need more, you would just change the two places you see the number 3 in that code to 4, 5, and so on.
If you need to add options to turn them on/off, the easiest way would be to put your forum in debug mode for a minute by adding $debug = 1; in your config.php file. Then go to the vBadvanced Homepage settings and add the new settings. If you do that, don't forget to take your board out of debug mode afterwards. ;)

Tigga
01-08-2004, 03:20 PM
Yea, it adds them there because they're not "default" templates. It will work just fine from there though... Or if you really need them to be displayed with the others then you can go to your templates table in the database, find that template, and change it's styleid to "-1".

You are breaking the vBulletin copyright, simply because you do not display the "vBulletin Copyright ©2000 - 2003, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited" required, on your front page.
Your script uses the vB functions, so is a vBulletin product/hack.

TECK - I have spoken with a member of the Jelsoft team before and they said it was not necessary to display the copyright message on the homepage, nor any of my other pages, since it is not a vBulletin file. If it was necessary, or a violation of the vBulletin license agreement, then it would be there. [Edited by assassingod - Unnecessary]

Well I'm not aware of any other portals that work with vB3 other than vBindex... If there are any others feel free to point them out to me and I will explain the differences. As far as vBadvanced Homepage vs vBindex, it's really all about which one you like better. The last time I looked at it the coding and such seemed to be very well done, so I wouldn't necessarily say one is better than the other. The only way to determine which one is better *for you* is to compare them and see which one fits your needs the best. ;)

Every portal has it's place depending on what a person may need. Both Tigga and NTLDR have written excellent hacks and both have cleanly written & optimized code. The choice is basically yours to the features you want and ease of use. My opinion is you can't go wrong with either hack and I have both installed (different sites of course).

The older version was working for me but I keep getting empty pages, when loading adv_index.php, with this newer one (after changing the chdir line). Hi there - totaly new to this lark, so please bear with me.
I have installed the front end, which by the way looks damn fine. However, I am totally unsure how to edit the custom blocks. I have manged to set some up in VBindex because they add templates to the style menu. How do I go about doing this in vBadvanced? A quick guide would be really welcome for me and i'm sure other novice users (try and keep it basic!!).
Also, when I click on my header image it forwards me to http://legionsofloki.com/index.php. However, my forum is located at http://legionsofloki.com/Forum/index.php. The link in the navbar seems to work ok. The calander also seems to be pointing to the wrong path for me, when I click on the month header.
Also, how do I change the page positioning of the boxs? For instance, if I set up a Custom Block with site links in it, how do I get it to be distplayed as the top left box?
Thanks in advance, and again, great bit of coding!

Ogmuk - Can you give me a link to the page? What version were you running before? Also, did the upgrade actually go all the way through, or did it give you an SQL error?
Nmidia - All the templates are with the regular vB templates, listed under "Index". That's where you can modify your custom templates, and you can modify your index template to move the blocks around. Everything in that template is well commented, so it should be easy to figure it out. To change the URL the header image points to you would need to modify the index_header template. I just checked the calendar, but it seems to be pointing to the right place...

Love it! It's perfect. Though there are a few small things....
The who's online list has a space after names and before the comments which looks a bit messy? Can that be sorted? It also doesn't display users custom colours - for example, our Admin group members should be in red, and Paid Members should be in Green...
Listing Who's Online as one person per row would be great, like how it's done in most of the Nuke system modules? Then you could have a PM link beside each name?
On the Whos Online page, those on the portal index are displayed as being at "Unknown Location", any way to sort that out?
It also doesn't use the selected theme for header and footer? How do I add this manually, or make it work?
(For example, see http://forums.wiccauk.com/ for how it should look, at http://forums.wiccauk.com/adv_index.php for how it's displayed).
Finally - better instructions (or admin options!) to move the blocks about would be great. I'd like everything on the left except Recent topics on the right.... can anyone point me in the right direction?

Default: http://www.technonuts.com/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif

Go to your Admin Panel and click on Post Icon Manager
You have to give your icons the complete path
now you have: 'icons/'
but you need to put in: 'http://www.technonuts.com/forums/images/icons/iconXYZ.gif'
It is the same with smilies in your NEWSbits. If you want to show them up you need to edit their path.
Then it will work for sure. :)
in my post icon manager the path to the example smiley that's not showing up is:
http://www.technonuts.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif
So the path within vB is already correct. They work fine from within vBulletin but not on the front page.

Nmidia - If you can figure out how to port the shoutbox from vBindex, then there's no problem here. You may want to check with them though as they may require a copyright notice or something like that since you're using their script. I will be making a shoutbox as an add-on for this soon... I'm working on getting vbadvanced.com up (hopefully by next week) where we will provide support for this scripts, hacks, and other stuff.
Casparian - I'm not quite sure I know what you mean by the spaces and comments in the who's online list... As far as the colors, I'm assuming that you're acomplishing that through the "Username HTML Markup" option, right? I'll be sure that's added in the next version. I don't think listing the online users in rows will ever be the default way it's done since that could cause that box to become huge, but I could probably release a hack for it once vbadvanced.com is up and running.
As for the "Unknown Location" on the Who's Online page, there is a fairly easy way to fix that. I'll have to find the code and post it when I have more time... Just an FYI though, only admin's will see the "Unknown Location" text - regular members will just see that they are on the forum's index page. ;)
To make your header look like your forum header, you will need to modify your index_header and index_footer templates to match your forum ones.
As for moving the blocks around, those can all be modified in the index template. Everything is well commented, so as long as you know at least a little HTML then it shouldn't be hard at all to move them where you wish.
Rids - I think the problem with the icons is that it's pulling them from the icon cache rather than the actual path that's in the database... At least that's the only thing I can figure since everything else does seem to be correct. Try modifying your thumbsup icon, just save it in the icon manager without making any changes, and let me know if that makes a difference.
I may need to throw some code in there to update the icon cache after the image paths are modified...
Yep, that worked, as soon as I saved the icon and refreshed it was there
Tigga

Glad that worked. I figured that had to be it. I'll be sure to add some code in to update the icon cache for the next version... Damn Jelsoft and all their new caching and other optimizations. :p
Thanks Tigga, I must say I'm loving this addon (it a lot more than a hack) :)

Thats great new mate. I think I will be waiting for you then.
Hello Tigga,

Ok, for my users who are not logged in / not registered I would like to display a box ie "custom 1" which will display ads from google.
However if they are registered and logged in I do not want them to see these ads.
I know VB has usergroup options, how do I setit up so if the usergroup is the unregistered/not logged in to show custom1 but for any other usergroup to not display it?
Any TECHNICAL detail on how to do this would be great. (like actual code) :)
Thanks in advance.

is there anyway to insert your whole index.php where the news section is supposed to go?

And you didn't get any database errors from the installer? Try re-downloading the hack from the first post and running the installer. The error you posted says a column isn't there that the installer adds. If you didn't get an error from the installer, then there shouldn't be any reason why that column wasn't added.

restless - Strange that it was doing that, but glad you got it to work. :)
kneesparx - That error means you didn't enter the correct path in your adv_index file. If you're having problems figuring out what the path is, see the FAQ section of the readme file.
gc1 - What exactly do you mean by "get index.php in the news section"?
Lacrosse Boy - That's being caused by the quotes in your news posts. I would set the "News Maximum Characters" to a higher number so the posts will be able to read the entire quote.

VB3.0 allows you to change the name of index.php page of the forum. Try re-naming it to forum.php and change the setting in the Admincp to reflect that change. Then create a blank index.php page in the /forum directory and re-direct that to http://yourdomain.com/ via Cpanel or whatever.
Hell, that's the only way I know to do it, but I'm sure there's tons of ways like .htaccess.

Create a file called info.php with the following content:

Then upload that file to your server and go to it in your browser. You will see a list of options that were set by your host. One of them is called:

Blackbeard - Try removing that quote from your first news post, or changing the Max News Characters to a higher number so that the closing quote tag will be included. That error is being caused because the quote table is never closed. It's strange that this seems to be such an issue with this script, but I can't think of one complaint with the vB2 version (myvbindex). I may have to add some code that will close the quote since this seems to be an issue affecting so many people now.
Abbas - Can you show me the file that you're trying to include this script with?

Just a tiny tidbit, not important really, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Heh. I spent an hour puzzling over why the gradients weren't working, on the pkg default theme and that was because you need to go through the css and full path the background image attributes.
Love the hack, btw - fab job. :)

Tigga i realy would like you to look at this: http://cutephp.com/ :)
It's a fantastic free news script with a lot of options such as xml/rss feeds. It can display 5 headlines in a sideblock and when you click on it (i haven't figured out how they do that) the news can be displayed in a centerblock above the forum newsitems for example. What's great is the quick comment system beneath the newsitems. Visitors can read the news and react. I hope someone can let this work togheter with this portal. You can share the news with other sites trough rss.

so far i have looked into both vbindex and vbadvanced homepage.. i am leaning towards this one a bit more than the other as it looks like it gives a bit more functionality with minimal queries..
right now i run vb2.3.3 with the calendar patch for 2.3.4 and a vbportal front-end.. they have no estimated time for release yet for vbportal for vb3 and i am not sure if i want to stick with it anymore.. but it does offer a more thorough solution to what i need right now.. but in the way of a portal solution, here is what i would like to see, and i am not sure if these things will be added, have been thought of, or are even considered an option at a later date:
a seperate admin section for the portal aside from it being within the adminCP..
a reviews section to rate certain things that pertain to what is relative on the site itself with user submitted reviews that have to be approved by a mod, smod or admin..
an uploads/downloads section.. the uploads use pfp ftp instead of relying on the php.ini.. once a user/member uploads a file, a mod, smod or admin approves the upload and then creates a link for it, moves it to a proper DL file location via a file manager based system, and the link is then posted in a DL section only registered users and higher being allowed to DL.. (there is a secure downloads deal, but the guy is so slow in updating anything with it that many of us from vbportal are tired of asking, although he says his new version will do most of what i ask, if it is ever released).. as well as a rating system for the downloads..
a links section to allow for member based link submission and a rating system is allowed for the links as they relate to the relevance of the site the links reside on..
the ability to easily create sideblocks, centerblocks and additional content for the sites front end.. almost a nuke style blocks system.. although i am not too keen on the nuke style, you can't really beat it in its ease of use..
that's all i can think of for now.. i would say a gallery, but i already have a license for photopost.. and i would by a license for reviewpost for the review section.. but i just can't bring myself to purchasing something like that right now since i am so short of bread the way it is..
now i know that's a lot.. and i am by no means a vbulletin hacker/guru/know-it-all.. but i am very interested in a more robust DL section for sites such as mine that offer DL's to their members.. something like i mentioned above for the upload bit and working similar to paFileDB for the download bit.. but i am very willing to offer help in anyway necessary.. i have looked for solutions and studies on some stuff Dark_Wizard has done as well as Erwin and several others.. will do whatever it takes to make a really good DL hack/add-on.. but would like to see it integrated with a nice portal system, and vbadvanced homepage looks like a very good portal based front end for such a DL type add-on.. if anyone is interested in such a deal and would like to help me do such a task, please contact me.. but bare in mind, i am a beginner.. if you are doing something like thisTigga or are interested, let me know.. be glad to do whatever i can..
i also think i saw wayne luke mention vbulletin was working on a cms.. anyone know much about that? nd sorry for asking that in this thread..
Tigga, very quality work.. i believe faranth helped as well.. nice job.. well done..

Just installed this. Looks great!
I did have one question though, the post icons are showing up as broken links, even though they do have the full, correct paths shown in the AdminCP (and they showed correctly during the install of this mod, where it changes the paths for you.)
In AdminCP, on the Post Icon manager, the path to each image is:
For example: http://www.fireblades.org/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif
But on the home page, the broken image properties shows:
http://www.fireblades.org/images/icons/icon1.gif
(I did hard-code /forums/image/etc in my Style too, btw.)
Any ideas of what I may have missed?

Try modifying one of your icons in the Admin CP. You don't have to actually change anything, just save it. The icon cache needs to be updated which is something I missed when writing the install file. ;)

I found a bug, I think.
I have vb set to notify me of a new PM with a pop-up. If I'm on the vBadvanced page and get the pop-up, it tries to send me to private.php in the root of my site instead of in the /forums directory.

good to hear that Tigga.. I am actually not too far away from you.. i live in Georgia as well.. anyway.. would be good to know a bit more info as i have to make a decision soon.. my vbportal subscription runs out the end of this month and i need to make a decision to renew that subscription or move on to something that will give me as much if not more site based and admin based functionality..
if you could maybe tell me how to speak to you outside of the forums.. i am an IRC regular, and i have ICQ.. i am by no means asking for support or for my requests to be talked about, i am just wanting to know a bit more about what you are thinking as it pertains to what i have mentioned and what your response was.. also, if you are going to charge for anything, i would like to speak to you about that as well..
if you have a few minutes, let me know how best to reach you outside of the vb.org forums.. thanks..

Im going to run my whole website(50+ pages) through your portal (adv_index.php?page=xxx) and was wondering if i should start adding pages now or if the next time you upgrade the portal i would have to re-start the pages.... in other words should i start building my site through the portal or should i wait for the "gold" version to be released?
thanks

ConqSoft - Are you running the most receint version of the script? There's some code in the file that should add your forum's URL in front of private.php. Have you modified your "pm_popup_script" template at all?
13th_Disciple - I'm hoping to have vBadvanced.com up within the next couple of days to start providing better support, add-ons, and etc for this script. Then I'm hoping to have the links directory up within a week or two, and the other scripts to follow... I can't really give any estimate on time for the others right now, and I'm not sure what order they will be available in. I don't really use IRC or ICQ, so the best way to contact me would be through email. If you'd like to email me at brian@plurplanet.com I'll gladly try to answer any questions you have.
AshAbed - You can go ahead and start making as many pages as you'd like - None of them will be lost in any upgrades. ;)

I'm trying to build custom templates named index_template or whatever and when I try to load them with the ?page=template I get:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: parse_bbcode() in /www/htdocs/index.php on line 555

Never mind, a little searching and I found the answer here:

No modifications to pm_popup_script that I'm aware of.

Faranth - You're going to kill me, but can you resend that email? Just installed this hack and it installed without any errors or anything. Now here is my question. My mainpage is at www.vorspann.net, my forums are at http://forums.vorspann.net now I am wondering how I get this content to show on my main page? Everything seems to be working now I just need to know how I implement this content to work with my main standard HTML page?

What I want it to display instead is not who started the thread, but who replied to the thread.
