As for the PM problem - Are you running the most current version of this script? That was an issue in one of the earlier versions, but was fixed. Did you by chance replace $index_footer with $footer in your index template? If so, that could also be the cause.

From my understanding before, I was told to edit the paths to the smileys and icons...I already had the correct paths. From my current understanding, I was told to just press save in the icons/smiley section so that the iconcache could update.

Did you read the info about the extra pages feature in the readme? It should be fairly easy to understand... Just create a new template called index_links (just for example purposes), then your link to that page would look like http://yoursite.com/index.php?page=links
And I believe Faranth did say to modify the icons and check their paths, but saving one is what actually makes the change. The icons are stored in a cache for vB3 and whenever one is modified then the cache is updated. I should have added the code to update the cache in the install file, but that was something I accidentally overlooked. That has been fixed for the next version though. :)

What's weird was that I did change the display order and saved it before, but that didn't work at the time...I had a big mess with files and stuff all over the place and have slowly updated everything and it works fine now! I knew not to give up on this hack - i knew it was me because I said I'm missing something before, lol.

Why did you create a new file? There's no need for that, just a new template. All you put in the template is the content you would like to appear in the middle, so starting with a table would probably be the best. ;)

Tigga the code is still there now it won't show.. I thought I fixed it but now only the Post information shows.

everything is default.. I am guessing it has to do with where the index is located.. I double check though ;)

1st - move all your forum files and folders to new folder /forum or /vbb for example... you even don`t need to change your config.php - all you need in AdminCP change path to your forum folder ;)

2nd - if you don`t like 1st way you need to have access to your .httaccess file and change there index.php for adv_index.php

I am having some issues with the mini calendar. It doesn't show the links to events. I have checked the calendar permissions, usergroup calendar permissions, and vbAdv's settings, etc. I have calendar #1 (public) set up, but not seeing the links. Any ideas on how to make it show or is that the way vbAdv works?

digitalSite - vBulletin apparently changed the way some of the calendar functions work in one of their receint versions. If you'll open your adv_index.php file and look for this line:
define('NO_REGISTER_GLOBALS', 1);
Right below that add:
define('THIS_SCRIPT', 'adv_index');

Then open your includes/functions.php file and look for:
if (THIS_SCRIPT == 'online' OR THIS_SCRIPT == 'calendar' OR (THIS_SCRIPT == 'index' AND $vboptions['showevents']))
Replace that with:
if (THIS_SCRIPT == 'online' OR THIS_SCRIPT == 'calendar' OR THIS_SCRIPT == 'adv_index' OR (THIS_SCRIPT == 'index' AND $vboptions['showevents']))


GameMania - At the moment, no. That section is coded the way it is to help prevent broken vbcode tags for when a tag isn't ended before the cut off. I've tried finding a good solution and a way to end the quote if there is one that isn't ended, but I'm not sure if that's going to be possible. I will try to look into that some more before I release the next version though.

I really like vBadvanced. My site is currently on vBulletin 2.3.4 with vbPortal.

I would like to switch to vBadvanced when I move to vBulletin 3, but it doesn't seem to have one key feature that I use and that is TOPICS. I like to put my news articles into topics so someone can easily find all the news related to that topic.

I also use the WebLinks in vbPortal extensively, but I don't like the way they are making the WebLinks look like a FORUM in vbPortal for vBulletin 3. They seem very difficult to navigate. Whether I use vbPortal or vBadvance for vBulletin 3, I will likely have to switch to In-Link or some other link management software.

Also, does anyone have a script to wrap the vBadvanced side blocks and header around a static html file sort of like the "display.php" file with vbPortal?

Just trying to figure out what I want to use for portal software when I convert to vBulletin 3.

stlracing - Can you explain what you mean by the news topics feature? I am currently working on a vBadvanced links directory that should be available *hopefully* within a few weeks. It will be a paid script, but will be much better than In-links or similar scripts. I would highly recommend NOT using In-Links as well... I was doing some work with that script for a client and it is an extremely poorly written script. As for the "display.php" file with vBportal... If I follow you on what that does, vBadvanced Homepage has a similar featue in which you can create new pages and have the content of those replace the news in the center.

In vbPortal, I post a new story to go on the front page, I can select a TOPIC for it to be assigned to.

For instance, I run a racing website, so when I post a news story, I can select a particular track for the Topic.

Then in a sideblock, I have a dropdown menu that has all the Topics in it, if I select a particular track from the Topic, it will load a page with all the news stories on that particular topic (track).

It also assigns an image that goes in the top right corner of the news story, such as the track logo.

This one might be familiar to Tigga, since I asked him to do same thing in vBadvanced 2, to which he responded immediately and upgraded his script. I wonder if same addition can be performed in vBadvanced this time round.

In 'Latest Threads' box, I would like to see body (text) of latest posts, on top of what is there already, like thread name, thread starter, dates...).

I think that ability to show a bit of an actual messages on a portal page helps draw people into your forum. Tubedoqq's script springs to mind here.

stlracing - I'm not sure if that will ever be a default option, but that might make for a good hack. I can try to look into creating one when I have the time, but I can't guarantee when that will be.

M.C. - All of the blocks can easily be moved by editing the index template. They're all well commented, so it shouldn't be hard at all to figure out how to place them where you'd like. ;)

Ok well after running it for a few days on a 550+ concurrent user site.. I got several bugs..

1 is that the portal can't sustain the users.. even though the queries are low.. it takes the portal time to draw itself out. ( this is still with the server at .78 load ) I've used both my modified and non modified version of the templates and it makes no diffrence.

while being out of the /forums/ directory the whole portal acts diffrently.. some things work some thing do work.. I think for later versions you should make it in the control panel where you can specify where your vbadvanced is located so that the program recognizes the proper paths.

Addition of new blocks:

I've tried diffrent methods and the only way to get a new block is to hardcode the code on the index or hardcode into the template. I think there should be a feature where you can add new templates at will and able to add diffrent types of blocks ( ie php , regular html etc)

Question:

Is there a simple way just to pull out the header/ and blocks using a regular php page? ( I am just wondering since in 2.0 you could but everything seems diffrent under 3.0)

quick question: when i installed vba, my list of members, posts and threads as well as "who's online" went to the main index page...this is fine, however, what can i do to ALSO have it at the bottom of my forum listing page like it was before?

FastAttack - Could you explain your problems in a little more depth? What exactly do you mean by "can't sustain the users"? How exactly does it act differently when outside of the forums directory?
I did notice that the page seems to fluctuate in loading times though... Sometimes it loaded in less than 1/2 second, others it took up to 3. If you could add this line of code to your include/config.php file:

That will turn on debug mode only for my IP address. If you could add that I will be glad to take a look at the queries and such to see if I can find out why it's behaving like that.
As far as new blocks, I may make it a little easier to add / manage new ones, but I don't think I'll go too far with that on this script. It should be fairly easy to copy one of the custom templates and past it in your index template where you would like it to appear as long as you know basic HTML. I will eventually have a CMS / Portal available for purchase which will be much more powerful and have features like this as well.
What exactly do you mean by "pull out the header/ and blocks using a regular php page"? If you're trying to display your header & side blocks with other content in the center, take a look in the readme file - it's explained there how to do that. If that's not what you mean please explain it in a little more detail.

infiniterb - Try saving your options in the Admin CP. There's a new option to set the time/date format for the news there. That, and the other new options won't take affect until after they've been saved.

Faranth, I can tell you that I didn't upgrade from vb2 recently. I've had vb3 for awhile now. All I did was save the changes from the control panel for vbadvance and it started to send these errors to me.

GameMania - At the moment, no. That section is coded the way it is to help prevent broken vbcode tags for when a tag isn't ended before the cut off. I've tried finding a good solution and a way to end the quote if there is one that isn't ended, but I'm not sure if that's going to be possible. I will try to look into that some more before I release the next version though.

In your adv_index.php find the Calendar section and change the cellpadding from '4' to '2' and that will fix the calendar alignment.

In your AdminCP under VBadvance Option, how many news articles do you have it set to show? 2 ?

Did you update all your threads, posts, indexing, etc ?

On vbadvanced Gamma I had to do that and it fixed the same problem you're having.

Did you edit it through the edit button? Or through the Thread tools? If you use the edit button, I don't believe it will change the title. You have to use the Thread Tools to edit the thread. It's been like that in VB as long as I can remember.

infiniterb - Actually that is intended behavior. You changed the post's title, not the threads. If you use the admin options to edit the thread and change it that way then it will display the new title.

NuclioN - Try running this query and see if it returns anything...

If it does, then the settings are there, just not being displayed properly. If the settings are there, try saving your Admin CP options and see if that helps any... Other than that there's not much else I can suggest at the moment... If your settings aren't there, the best thing I can suggest would be to uninstall and re-install once again. Also be sure you're using the most current version (1.1, uploaded a couple of days ago).


Just a quick note for everyone else... I'll be out of town until next Tuesday. Hopefully Faranth and others will be able to help if there are any problems, but if there's anything they can't help with then I will try once I get back.

For the calendar problem, make sure you made the changes to your includes/functions_calendar.php file, and to the templates.

Basically i want to include custom blocks that will 1) show a random quote from a specific forum and 2) list todays events. There was mention of the events idea possibly being made as an addon? I have several categoryes. Made them by ?page=blabla . When i click on a link ho will open me a page i want to open a news category. But not the one from the begining, another one from other forum. How can i do that ?

In Who is Online i get UNKNOW LOCATION (.index2.php......) and if a member is in index.php i get Forum Index. I want for index.php to say SITE and for index2.php Forum Index. PET - Yes, "mypage" would be the the part in the link. Say you changed "mypage" in the php code to "yourpage", then the link would look something like http://yoursite.com/index.php?page=yourpage. If you need to be able to do this with several forums then you would need to add some elseif statements to that code.

Yes. Everything is template based just like vBulletin, so all you would need to do is modify the template and move the blocks where you would like them.

Hmm... This is just a guess, but try editing your index template. In the first table, you'll see class="page". Try removing that and see if it has an effect. You will also see the welcome box in the index template, just a little below the code I just asked you to remove. ;)

This would be very cool since having both the left and right sidebars on every page really limits space for content.

It isn't photopost...it's a gallery in the beta stages that, imo, is much, much better...the coolest thing is, it's in the works by Tigga which is why it will easily intergrate with vB including his vBadvanced. :)

I remember reading somewhere in all these posts someone requesting to have the right column disappear when using the ?page=blah fucntionality with this hack.

Please forgive me if I am repeating someone else's work, but I cannot find that post again.

I have slightly adjusted the index template to be able to do this. i.e. when you call: http://www.yourdomain.com/index.php?page=blah then the right column disappears. Under all other instances it stays.

Here's how to do it:

in your index template under the index group find the following code:<td valign="top" width="175">

$custom2above that add:<if condition="!$page">then find the following code:<!-- End Latest Threads -->and add below that:</if>then save the template. Now the right column will disappear when using the ?page=blah functionality. Simple, but effective.

This is of course assuming that you haven't changed the positions of the right column items. Of course, you can manipulate it to your heart's content, just make sure that the if conditional is above the <td> line for the right column, and that you close it before the last </td> and it will work.

hey guys, I have vb advanced modified so that I have one main index page w 2 columns, and then another content page for my addon pages that only has a left column.

However, i have a video database on my site, and i would like to use the news style function as a way to display all my videos on a content page. So bassically, is it possible to still have news on main page, and another like system w a diff template (so i can make it look more like a video listing than a news post)

I don't know if this is the best way to do it or not, but it's what I'm using to call php files on my VB2 forums and it works for displaying thumbnails in the vBadvanced custom blocks for VB3 as well.

This is for use with the Photopost thumnailincluder hack as a file.

In the phpinclude_start template, add

$photo = implode('', file("http://www.yoursite.com/file.php"));

Then add $photo to your custom block template to display the thumbnail.

set your default post icon setting in your vboptions in admincp. That will sort it out, make sure you use the FULL http://address (which is contrary to what it tells you in the admincp, ignore that).

In the first part of the installation where you specify your image directory you have missed out /board/ from the URL - should read http://www.str8ballin.com/board/images/misc for the "Misc" entry etc.

Yeah thanks for the help Kevin, what was the error for me in my image pathcs I was putting 'board/images/misc/' and that was erroring but with a direct url it works so anyone else having trouble with images try setting your image paths as a full url example like this..

Mickie D - Try reverting your index_threadbits template. If that doesn't help, the problem is most likely caused by one forgetting to run the upgrade file after upgrading to a new version of vBa Homepage. ;)

SVTBlackLight01 - That's not an option at the moment... It could be done with conditionals in the template though. ;)

fasteddie - It looks like your template table has become corrupted somehow. Try using phpMyAdmin to repair the table, or you could use the "Repair / Optimize" option in your admin cp.

You don't have to register or anything to see it, the rest of the vBadvanced Homepage info only shows up for registered members.

thanks for your reply, but no, you were wrong. I set 3000 words for Maximum Characters, it had some changes but the quote in that news still showed up incorrectly, but the remaining did well (words that weren't in the quote). Something like.....half of the quote table appeared, the rest was in under its right table, mine is latest threads.
I guess you didn't think there was going to be quotes in news.

I figured out something: I was watching the page loading, when the avatar didn't finish loading, the quote is ok but when the avatar appeared the quote broke out.

let me give u a quick explanation with the attached image.
there're several ways to know the forum id: hover on its name, via ACP, right click and see the property...
the pic is hovering, the last number is the forum id, in the picture it's 2, then in vbadvanced opitions you just have to fill out that number to show its threads in the home page. Very very easy, isn't it ?
undefined fuctions....I guess you didn't care to save the vbadvanced options yet, you need to read the installation guide carefully.

GuruXL - What version of vBulletin are you running? Have you made any modifications to your adv_index.php file? I don't see how it's complaining about the function on that line when that function isn't used until farther down the script.

dbode - Yes, this has been tested on large boards, and boards with a high number of concurent users - http://www.prisontalk.com might be a good example. There are two options that can sometimes be a little server intensive on larger sites (The stats option, and "Show New Posts"), so if you do experience any load problems be sure to turn those off. Other than those two options though, everything should perform great. :)

in the admincp click vbulletin options and scroll all the way to the bottom

my vBadvanced block is slightly wider than the top nav bar. I thought it might be because I have the arcade installed. Any way to fix the width problem?

I have it set with the Main Table Width being 100% maybe this will fix you issue?
Style manager--->all style options---->under Sizes and Dimensions change Main Table Width (pixels or percentage) to 100%

now dont hold me to this but i edited this line and it worked for me in your index templates under index edit this
