the header is three images for the theme, but the page template is only missing one image, and even it's filename is wrong for that theme.
i found out what vBadvanced is calling for the image, under stylevars in the style manager, the "Title Image".. but the theme does'nt use that at all.

I am trying to install this and am on step two and already confused. The instructions say:

"Open the templates.txt file which was included in the zip file. Make the changes to each template as specified there."

The way its written is like this is the most obvious thing in the world so maybe I am asking a stupid question, but what does that mean? There are no instructions in the template.txt file, just code. Where do I put that code? Talk to me like I'm a dummy...cause I am.

Thanks Nexvision, but that does not provide any more info than the Readme did. :)

Anyhow, the problem I was having is I did not know where to find the templates. I happened to see them when I clicked the wrong drop-down when selecting a style and got the job done. All is working now.

I would suggest changing the readme instructions to be more specific there, like noting where you find your templates.

This is something that really needs to be addressed. I don't want to have to set my character length to 1000 and make my page a mile long to avoid this problem and still be able to use BB code.

There is a setting in vB3 to ignore words in quotes for a minimum post limit, I'm sure someone that knows about the ins and outs of vB will be able to use that somehow.

Don't look at me though, as I'm inept when it comes to PHP & MySQL ;)

Perfect! Is there a way I can make a small box called "Today's Events" and have today's events listed in there, like in a "Latest Threads" format? Not sure if it's supposed to do that automatically or not. Thank you!

I too would like to show events as you are suggesting. It should follow vB's option to display events up to X number of days ahead of time (upcoming) - perhaps up to X number of events as well.

This would probably be even more useful than the mini-calendar, as it would bring out the events by name.

I have the mod 'Petz' and the mod 'Arcade' on my forum. However, when you click on this on the first page, it's missing the /forum/ bit so it wont work. I can't remember which file I need to edit, etc so any help would be appreciated. The other links work obviously.

Now, when a guest is is viewing the portal, they can see posts from sections that guests or even members are not allowed to see..? Is this a bug?

Also, how do I have it so when a member is on the portal, it shows a link in the navbar for forums, and when they are @ the forums it shows a link for home?

What about the issue with a guest or member seeing forums their usergroups do not have permission to see? The permissions are set correctly in Forum Manager too.

Tigga, could you add a custom user editable box, so it would be something like a signature, every user could enter whatever he wants (without HTML or with?) and it would show up in the predefined place? For exampe some counters or links, or telephones, whatever - what do you think? A custom user filled block, maybe even (in the future) an address DB, because, for example, I've made a SMS sending system over the world and would love to have not only my Buddy names inserted in the TO: field, but other people names as well, not they're phone numbers.

i was running vba 1.0 and vb3rc2, I upgraded vb3rc- rc4 and upgraded vba1.0 to the latest.

now in my admin panel if i look at the vb options it shows this. Also on the main page for some reason the templates are not showing up correctly.

Hi guys, I have a problem I was wondering if you could help me with. I've tried to do it myself, but to no avail. Basically I want the news to show on my homepage inside an iframe - the way I want my design to work I can't really afford the space that it requires as is. In vB2 I used PluhNews to pull the news to a seperate page called news.php, included it in the iframe and removed the MyvBindex news template.

The way I thought about doing it is in the same way that you can create vBAdvanced powered pages, by using for example index.php?page=news - and this news page contains the newsbits. I tried hacking this in myself and failed, could you possible point me in the right direction?

It works fine, I just tried it on 2 boards. One was a clean install and the other was just upgraded from RC-4 to Gold. On the upgrade I had to re-upload the advindex_install.php file and run it again, I just chose the option to 'load templates' or something, it's the option that is mentioned when you are upgrading Vbulletin. Then I made the necesary edits to the files in the 'includes' folder.
Woking fine now.

I noticed that as well, I was going nuts trying to figure out why the 'VI' editor couldn't find that string so I decided to scroll down to find it manually. Of course it's almost at the end of the file.... :rolleyes: ...Lol!

Here's what I did;

1) Upgrade to Vb-3 Gold (upload all files and run upgrade script, as per instructions).

2) Depending on which templates that you revert when upgrading to Gold (you have a choice) you may have to make all the edit changes as per the Vbandvanced instuctions (calendar templates, some files in the 'includes folder etc). Check those now and edit as needed.

3) Important! Re-upload the 'advindex_install.php' to the admincp folder and run that script again (http://yoursite.com/forum/admincp/advindex_install.php) but after you give the admin login CHOOSE THE THIRD OPTION , it;s something like;
Click here to install ONLY the templates (useful after upgrading vBulletin) -->
This will make the necesary updates to the new VB-3 files and you shouldn't lose any of your VBadvanced hacks, because those are left untouched, they don't get overwritten by VB-3 files with a couple of exceptions like the Navbar template etc.

Pretty much just following the original instructions except not uploading the index.php file and choosing the third option when runniing that script.

To answer Powerpig's question, if you run the script to re-install the tempaltes you will probably have to go back into the Vbadvanced options section of the admincp and enter your news forum ID number etc to get that to show up again on the index page. This is all in the instructions for a 'new' install, you can download the zip again if you don't have those instructions.

That couldn't be v1.1 if you were getting that error. That query was changed for v1.1 (IIRC) after vB3 Gamma was released and the filesize column was added to the customavatar table, and was no longer unique to the attachment table.

i notice the hidden input "s" carries nil value... could this be why you can't login? Probably u want to see what variables vbulletin navbar is using and applies it to vbadvanced login crumb...

Well looks like there may still be one bug, read all thru the post, didn't see a comment on it, just downloaded the file yesterday, had no issues installing it.

vb 3.0 RC 2

Seems that on refreshing the buddy list is adding dupes to your buddy list, on inital navigation to the front page, the buddy list displays the names only once.

After a refresh it begins to add duplicate listings of ppl in your buddy list.

Has anybody seen this yet or is it just me?

snakes1100 - The buddylist problem is something I haven't heard of before... Does it display the duplicate names on the online users part as well (assuming you have that enabled)? They both use the same query and method to display things, so I would *think* that if there was an issue that it would be present there too. Have any of your other members mentioned the problem? Can you post here or PM me with a link to your site so I can have a look?

I just upgraded a vb2.3.4 which was running VBPORTAL to VBUlletin 3.0 GOLD.

I've then installed VBAdvanced from scratch and it's working ok EXCEPT that it only displays the very first "NEWS" thread *TITE* (not even the contents of it) of the NEWS forum, not the last xx as I told it...

Can I still fix this??

how about just disabled the login used by vbadvance ? Since there is already login function on the navbar... its rather redundant and confusing to have two login on the same page. Probably u can wait till this have been solved by Tigga. Meanwhile disable it and use vbulletin navbar login. :ermm:

calendar_smallmonth_day
calendar_smallmonth_header

They have the following code that needs to be removed:
$vboptions[bburl]/

If you leave this code in when you click on the small calendar header or one of the dates then it will look in the in you Public_html directory.

$vboptions[bburl]/ stands for the exact link that you entered in admincp for board url. You can only remove it when the adv_index.php file resides in your forumfolder...

I think it goes to your Public_html due to your server settings

Here is a suggestion. Why not have a separate navbar for the vBadvanced homepage. I know what you all are going to say. Why not modify the one the way you want it. The reason you can not do this is because if you do then you have to keep into account that it will be the same navbar that is in the forums and where ever the end users goes. The reason I would like to have a separate one is because there are some things that I want in my homepage navbar that I do not want in the forums. For example I don’t want the items above the actual drop downs. I don’t need the folder name and the Welcome stats/login box. That is already included in the vBadvanced homepage. But I would like this displayed in the forums because some users login through the forums and the folder option is nice to have in the forums. But you can not change one because they are the same navbar called up for both.

Second the forumid should be 33 not site.com/forumdisplay.php?=33

I managed to install the addition, "I think"

problems or mis-understandings are as follows

1. On my home page now I have all the features that are talked about. However the News posts that I want to show are simply not coming up. See thumb attached.

2. Finally what should I have done with the old index.php file? Do I simply change the adv_index.php to index.php and that is it? I ask this one because clicking forums anywhere leads to the home page where if someone were to click forums then I would think it should go to the forums listings.

I have installed it and like it. But, I have run into a problem. When I type my home url, it just shows a ftp tree of my site. If I click on the adv_index.php file the home page comes up. I am running VB 3.0.0. Seems the index file is not being called???

I did that and it took care of it. One more thing, when the login box pops up (my board is set to see no content before you login) one the homepage url, once you login it gives me a 404 error. it reverts to my site.com/login instead of my stie.com/forums/login.php. I have searched the templates and have not found what I need to edit.....any help is appreciated.

I did the same fault with the images directory, they are not showing up, because i missed the /forum/ directory and now they are linking to my html root :-/

VBadvanced takes over your default forumstyle...
BUT... the styles are different from vB 2 to vB3.
You will need to redefine your style settings when you upgrade from 2.x to 3.0
That will ask more time then installing the vbadvanced page ;)

Hey all.. I have a weird problem... I just installed vb3 and when I try to install vbadvanced I have a problem... When I get to STEP 3 FILE MODIFICATIONS part the code it wants me to find is not in my file... I dont get it... I opened includes/adminfunctions_template.php file and the code they want me to find is not there. I used the find option in notepad... Anyone have any idea whats going on?

Ok, i fixed my problem, why some images cannot display properly or the image path missing "/forum/"

Here is the solution:
Edit the Images path in FULL URL such as "http://www.domain.com/forum/images/icons/icon1.gif" ...etc
There has 3 place to edit it
1. Style Manager -> Click GO to edit templates-> "Image Paths"
2. Post icons under Admin CP
3. Smilies under Admin CP

You didnt hack your files correclty, upload default ones and i suggest trying again, dont edit them with somthing like dreamweaver or Microsoft Word, use somthing simple like wordpad.

sola, anytime you install a hack, you should keep the .txt file that came with it, and ALWAYS comment the code out that your are replacing, and comment the sections of code you add. when you comment, come up with a search term so that you can easily find all file mods.

for instance, when you install vbadvanced, and it tells you to edit a .php file, and says find this: and replace with this:

instead of replacing, simply comment it out using // HACK VBADVANCED REMOVE
and before your added code put // HACK VBADVANCED START and at the end put // HACK VBADVANCED END

do the same for template mods, and now anytime you want to remove a hack, just refer to the txt file that you saved from the hack, go into each modified file and search for your string, and uncomment out what needs to be uncommented.

as far as how much vbadvanced changes your forums, id say basically not at all. its more of an addition rather than a major change. following the instructions step by step carefully resulted in a very easy installation IMO, witht he only minor bug being a clear.gif issue they have already resolved i think, and a missed image path name.

when you upgrade vb, its basically a amtter of doing the upgrade,t hen reapplying the vbadvanced changes that were effected. when i changed from rc4 to vb3gold, i did the vb3gold install, then went back into the vbadvanced install and had the news issue fixed in 15 minutes. i am not a coder, but i do pay attention to detail, and i can follow if statements and the logic behind the code, and their wording and layout seemed very easy to me.

Also, the VBAdvanced homepage as well as this thread ahd all of the instructions on how to do this within a day of vb3gold being released.

First off, I must say, this is an EXCELLENT HACK! Thank you very much!!

If I can make one suggestion, it would be to NOT make the actual code replacements in an HTML read me. The reason being is that web browers on some platforms add small "invisible garbarge" characters when they are displayed. Thus, cutting pasting from a browser and not from a TXT read me is probably what is making some people not hack their php files correctly.

Again, this is a minor suggestion, and I want to thank you for the time in setting up this hack. I love it!

the FORUMS should be like: /public_html/forums/ so your forums will show up as http:// yoursite.com/forums

so now if you have the VBA in the public html directory you just install it - then delete you old INDEX.HTM file... then it comes up nicely...
