custom block 1 & 2 are just premade small templates that you can edit to add more content (static) onto your boards

i do have a question though... In the read me file it tells you how to add new pages (i.e.)
First, create a new template called index_links (For example purposes - You may change the "links" part to whatever you would like). Simply put the content that you would like displayed in this template - There is no need for body tags, the $header variable, or anything like this - only the content.
Once you create the new template, simply link to it using something like: http://yoursite.com/adv_index.php?page=links. Simply add the suffix of your new templates after the "page=" part in the link and it will replace the news section of your homepage with the content of your new template.

I tried this and the link works - but theres no content that i added... why is this?

What i did was Made a test page called: "index_test", added content to the page and uploaded it to my root directory...

ok, I have VBA installed, and I can pick my Template I want it to use but it's not using the right header.. I think it's trying to use the one that comes with VB.

I tryed going in Admincp and to Styles & Templates and changing the header.

No You shouldnt do that, it will cause an uncashed template error, you should just copy your header template into the index_header template.

I have vbadvanced working now after getting it to stop showing me that blasted blank page but now my error is that clicking on anything doesn't take me to forums/etc... ... instead of linking to the forums it goes to .com/showthread... etc... I think you get the point. Basically its not linking correctly. I tried going through as many pages as I could of this to prevent double posts of the same question but I couldn't find one with similar probs. Any help?

Yea for some reason it wasn't working right,
If you follow the instructions posted on http://www.v3arcade.com/, the arcade news will work correctly. Make sure that if you've changed to a different custom block, you change the directions accordingly. It worked fine for me on the first try :)

simple, cos in your vb 3 cookie, you already stated a domain, so its impossible to be logon to both domain at the same time.

So just do a domain redirect to the site (.com or .net) that owns the vb license.

The easiest solution to this is to add:

To the <HEAD> section of your pages.

Then all images, etc would be relative to the directory in the 'base' tag... meaning that you don't have to fix all of your smiley paths, image paths, attachment paths, etc... as they all just work! :)

Ok, so I just upped to 3.0.1, and after doing so, I noticed that my vBadvanced templates are no longer in a "category" in the template editor.

Does anybody know how I could manually edit the row or data in the database to file and categorize these templates back into their respective category? It was so nice to have them collapse into one category to have my templates more organized.

I don't know how this managed to happen, nor how to fix it.

Somehow when I installed the vBadvanced home page it pulled up the URL for my old vB2 folder for some of the blocks and not for others. To log in it's trying to go to the folder the v-2 forum was in.

Ok, alittle help here. I love this portal, but Ihave one issue I need to correct and have yet to do so. I run my board so that unregistered user can not see the forums. So when the hit the url www.mysite.com, they get the vb3 login box. But when you enter your name and password it reverts to www.mysite.com to look for login.php instead of www.mysite.com/forums/login.php. I had this problem with vb2 using tecks portal but was able to modify a template and get it pointied to the right place. I have had no luck with VB3. any help is appreciated.

vBAdvanced is using this blocking to ensure the only people able to download their hack from their site is by being a licensed vBulletin member.

Since you can post and see code at vB.org, the official vB hacks site, you can see the password typed in a code field in this thread. simply copy and paste this password in the link you provided above, and you can download and register the hack.

You need to put this file in your admincp directory, not the install folder.

Sorry I am just finding my way back to this, all of these sites are a bit overwhelming at first.

I think maybe you misunderstood with regard to what was happening on my end. I did not know if I could post at vb.org as I had never posted before with the exception of this thread (which could have been set with looser permissions to allow users who are experiencing problems to post as is the case on several boards that I frequent) but I knew that I couldn't see code here. I could NOT see the password in the password post until I quoted it in a new post. When I looked back to read the post that I had written, there was the password for all to see (which is why I edited that post). When I looked back at the initial password post, I still could not see the password though, I had to get it from the quoted post, which was the something weird that I referred to in my next post. I didn't want to say it out loud because I didn't want to be pointing out glitches to be abused by unlicensed users and I hope that as soon as an admin sees this post they will edit this part out. I didn't want to post it, but specifically recalled reading from one of the mods, to never never message them in any way shape or form (paraphrased of course) unless they specifically requested it. I waited for one of them to reply to my message. Since they did not, I posted it here.

No, the cookie is generally set for the domain so will not be accessible from another domain.

You may be able to get around this by using a subdomain e.g. home.domain.com and then forums.domain.com and have those hosted seperately if you care to do that... this way you could just set the cookie against domain.com.

But you will not be able to have a cookie set by domain1.com available to domain2.com without some serious work (re-direct domains, cookies set against the re-direct domain).

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you asking if it's possible to have nothing but the news as the home page? If so, I don't think it's possible without editing the index php file yourself..

I upgraded my vBulletin a few weeks ago and the script broke. I've only just got around to reinstalling it, but now I've got a problem - in the Options in admin cp, all the options dont have titles, just the radio or text entry boxes. And on the vbAdvanced page, many of hte boxes don't have titles or other text showing correctly. Any idea how to fix this? I think I did it once long ago but can't remember now :(

Well i got it installed on my site however i am running into a few questions/probelms.

everything is working fine, but i noticed a little error.
This error only shows up, if the user is not logged in or a guest (unregitered user).

The Error:
The page loads normally, but a script error is reported in IE v6.0 on line 2. You know the script Errors reported in IE, you can klick on details or klick OK so the browser will go on, the page still loads and the content is showing without problems, but this message is slicky for first time visitors .. they see an error and are closing the page ..
If users are logged in, no script error message is reported, also in the bottomline of the brwoser nothing is reported .. only guests or not logged in users get this error.

It says something from undefined ... error on line 2

i have no idea what this can be, please help me out to kill this little bug/error

i have this hack installed now some weeks, but from beginning i have a syntac arror on line two ..

The error is in bottom line displayed and only by IE6.0 .. when i log in the error dissapears .. only geust user have this error.

There is no difference to either page, the forums, or the main page that I currently have redirecting to the forums. Do I need to do something to the mainpage of the website to call on vbadvanced or something?

It looks like you overwrote the cmps_index.php with the content of your pre-existing index page rather than renaming the cmps_index.php to index.php and then uploading it?
Both http://www.tripleplate.com/cmps_index.php and http://www.tripleplate.com/ are the same.

Right, I have read 40+ pages now and cant seem to find the answer to this.

I have installed this hack and everything seems fine, I still need to change path to smilies though.

The only problem is, I use a flash header which has links to forum and home. This seems to have been changed when I installed the hack. It is pointing to the wrong address on the home page.

Pardon me if this is a stupid question or if I'm missing the obvious here. I just downloaded this for my website, and I'm wondering I've found myself stumped in the whole module thing. First of all, I was advised to go to my "vBa CMPS." I have absolutely no idea what that is. Second, I search through the options in my adminCP, but there is only an option to select 2 modules, which are dependant on 1 template. What if I want a 3rd module?

Specifically, I'm attempting to install the addon module by Zack or "Harrybutt?" https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=67474 which allows me to include my forum contributors. I noticed that the first vBa included a modules directory and a whole lot of files that were not included with this release. So maybe these features are not found in 1.1? Should I have installed 1.0 first?

I've got a very simplified version of my main forum directory on my index page which simply says the names of the forums without any other information. To the left of those is the forum icons.

I'd like those icons to change, the way they do on forum/index, when there is a new, unread post in the forum. Basically, that's a toggle between forum_old.gif and forum_new.gif depending on the status of the forum. I know the code is out there, but I'm not very good at mining it. Can someone tell me how to set this up, and how to make sure that each icon is properly associated with the correct forum?

I am at the part in the install where it says:

I opened up that file and found a similar phrase so I got that far. However, Im not sure what Im supposed to put there. At first glance I would want to put http://www.ultimatuner.com/forum/ because that is the address to my forum but it says not to put a URL in there. What should i put?

Also a second question, whats the difference between this and that CPMS(sp?) Portal management System?

Ok I uploaded it, but I never received an error. Also, I go into my Admin CP and I dont see any options to change vb advanced homepage. Also, in a few of my styles, it doesnt show up right. Did you, by any chance, rename your existing index.php to something else, and use the new index.php (the vbA one) in that directory?

If so, of course it is going to go to that page, because arcade.php redirects you to index.php?do=play or something.

Guess, the problem is with the quotes; it doesn't like breaking in the middle of other tags. You'll need to bump up the number of characters before it cuts off or turn off the option.

Also, unless you've purchased the branding free option you'll need to restore the 'powered by' wording in the footer.

Jacko, it works fine with all flavors of vB 3.0.x -- Did you install any modifications to CMPS or is that a stock install? If you want you can always submit a support ticket over at vbadvanced.com to have somebody take a look at it for you.

I've searched all around this thread and on the vbadvanced.com forums, and I've seen a lot of users requesting a random thread module, in which a random thread would be picked from a specific forum and shown in the main page (or any other VBCMS page, for that effect), although no solution has shown up.

I (and certainly other people) would really appreciate any feedback on this, please.
