Currently vBSSO provides a way to synchronize only the entities required for single sign-on. If you would like to synchronize other entities like posts, etc, you are welcome to submit a feature request on vBSSO website.

Is this a wordpress bridge?
Not really a bridge in terms of the bridge originally. That's like an single sign-on standard provided on vBulletin side, where 3rd party is able to implement vBSSO API to connect your platform like well known WordPress or your own website developed using custom technologies on your own.

Do you plan to add more integration functions, like showing vbulletin avatar in other software & linking to vbulletin profile in other software?
Yes, we do. You are welcome to give a try an "Avatars" feature in this WordPress version. vBSSO WordPress plugin fetches and displays vBulletin avatars easily.
If you are interested in other features, you are welcome to submit your request to us through vBSSO website.

Platform shared key is vbulletin api key, the keys should be identical to establish connection between two platforms. It's not necessary to specify username and password if you do not have Basic Apache Authorization enabled. Just leave these last fields empty.
If you have any issues please contact us though http://vbsso.com/request-new-feature/ page and our support will help you.
Thanks for helping to improve the product!

With Joomla or Wordpress, there are problems with integration:
how to get all content from both systems in one new content overview?
how to get usergroups and usergroup permissions working in the CMS?
how to get it in one integrated design?
how to let the CMS refer to the vbulletin profile?
how to use one editor?
how to let the CMS show the vbulletin avatar? Its great that you are solving the avatar problem.
What do you think about the other problems? Do you plan to add functionality that will resolve these issues?

Hi Alfa, this project was developed for our community (http://www.diabetesdaily.com) with a vision of having a flexible SSO system. We've open sourced and shared it so that others can use it and extend it freely. This community has given an enormous amount to us and we wanted to return that it in a substantial way. If we can save even one person a few hundreds hours of development and testing time, I will fall be very happy.
Some of your requests, like 1, 3 and 5, go beyond the goals of a single signon system. In our eyes, a good SSO can connect multiple systems and provide the plumbing. Items like providing access to usergroup permissions and avatars fall cleanly within that scope. Making two programs function as one by integrating designs and surfacing content jointly goes beyond what we think an SSO should do.
That said, there is a wonderful opportunity to extend this vBSSO into a full blown API for vB. I don't know if that's the direction that we want to go (it's something that vBulletin really should have done a while ago), but it's a worthy goal.
If you were interested in hiring us to create additional addons, we are able to do so and could open source the end product so others can utilize it. Even better, we'd love to see some dedicated members of the community jump in and help extend this project. We are happy to give feedback and support to anyone that wants to make it happen.

Could you please let us know your vBulletin version and some environment information such as OS/PHP/CURL versions to help us figure out the cause and provide a quick update to the product.
Thank you!

Bomye & puertoblack2003, the single signon works across domains and servers. This was a key requirement for us because we wanted to be able to create new applications that could run on their own server with their own domains.

Does this have the ability to do VB 4.x.x and VB 4.x.x connecting multiple forums on multiple domains with multiple vb licenses.
davide101
09-21-2011, 04:04 PM
whitey, not at this time. It would be possible to extend it to do so, but it would not be able to have one set of profiles and private messages. I imagine that the ideal would be to get multiple vBs to run on one codebase. This was always one of my biggest requests from vB - and I still hope it happens one day.

It's a possibility. If someone wanted to pay for the integration, we could do it very quickly. Otherwise, we'll add it to our list based on how much interest there is. If there are any coders out there that want to extend it in this way, we would gladly accept the code and add it to the project under the open source license.

There are a few who have expressed interest. We're going to plan out this project and get back with a project quote. If a few want to pitch in, our team can get it built relatively quickly and inexpensively.

CILGINKRAL_, It looks like you have already tried to install a product several times and all your attempts failed. We recommend you remove already created in vBulletin tables by executing the following SQL:
DROP TABLE IF EXISTS vbsso_listeners;
DROP TABLE IF EXISTS vbsso_properties;
DROP TABLE IF EXISTS vbsso_users;
And try to install it again.

To create a plugin for two vBulletin forums would take about 15 hours of work ($750).
(Required) vBulletin vBSSO minimal package implementation
1. Setup package - 1h
1. Handle login event - 1h
2. Handle logout event - 1h
3. Handle register event - 2h
4. Sync user credentials if user changes his email in vBulletin - 1h
5. vBSSO Configuration page - 1h
6. Adapt primary vBSSO Access Settings page to filter that vBulletin could be like a connected platform - 3h
7. Testing, packaging, and deploying - 5h
(Optional) vBulletin vBSSO optional implementation
1. Override login, logout, register creating new custom vBSSO block in vBulletin as custom solution, because vBulletin user a form to submit user login data by default., vB has no API to overwrite login block itself, but allows to create new login page. 1-2hr
Account Collisions
If you have two different sites, this would not solve the issue with the issue of two users having the same username or email addresses on multiple sites. If there is serious interest in this, we could work out a system that handles those duplicates. For example, we could offer the ability to change the username to something that doesn't exist or to allow the same username if the email address matches.

That last part would be great! Say...if someone registered on the toyota forum and there was (the same person) or username on the honda forum there could be a choice in the admincp to choose the prefix for the alike user names. So one would be toy-bob and hon-bob -- something along those lines. Or a choice to merge the users.
It would also be interesting to see other forum platforms added to this somehow. Invision - Xenforo.
I will be keeping a very very close eye on this though. It is incredibly handy for network sites.

when someone writes a comment on wordpress.... how is that comment published? like a wordpress comment or in the forum like a post?
Same registration/login its usefull but the option to write comments in the forum like post... would be...:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: (at least the option to chose between wp comments or vb posts)

kindly make it to work for the custom application build in vb.net of c# or PHP
Just when a query is passed to the vbulletin it should supply with the true after authentication

The comment is basically published like a WordPress comment.
Currently that feature is not really a major goal of Single Sign On, but we would be able to see how many people would like to have the similar feature(s) around the plugin to decide about the further steps.
Thanks for the suggestion.

We are planning to publish API later this year. We believe this is exactly what you are looking for. Using API you would be able to integrate vBSSO with your custom platform or application. There is no ETA for API yet. Just keep watching periodically.

I can safely say we will keep this product as simple as possible. We cannot support complex integrations, especially with multiple platforms, so it would not be wise to offer them.
If someone wanted to retain xeagle to do programming work ongoing and budget for it, I can highly recommend his services.

like there are two forums: A and B
if a user registers at A an account will automatically be created at B... I think thats possible ;)

The issue is what happens when Johnny signs up for forum B but someone else already has an account called Johnny in forum A. Or what if you have one email address per person and someone has different usernames in Forum A and Forum B. We're open to suggestions on handling these two cases. If one forum starts out empty, then just using a true SSO is ideal. We could probably implement that quickly.

Well now, this is a very interesting project.
From the looks of the drop downs on the request feature page, it seems that Mediawiki is on the agenda for a plugin in the future. One thing I am interested in though is if it'd be able to connect an already existing user database (from Mediawiki, or any other system) to the vBulletin database (and allow for a single sign-on), so that people who already have accounts on both would simply be linking their accounts, rather than creating a whole new account. One thing that was a dealbreaker for us with similar modifications in the past is that we use an addon to allow our forum members to change their username, which doesn't work when the addon only matches exact usernames. We'd be looking for something which matches on the forum side based on the user ID number.

Agreed. So far the plugin is quite good to start a network up quickly from scratch based on vBulletin and WordPress platforms.
From other hand we are in internal brainstorm period of thinking to connect already existing accounts and letting users to change their username and email address in platforms.
If somebody opens to share the vision how they would like to see this, that's greatly appreciated!

vBSSO actually hides user profile inputs to change password in WordPress. In meantime user is free to change its own password in vBulletin and use it further.
vBSSO doesn't touch passwords in WordPress and single sign-on is relied on passwords stored in vBulletin users database only. Thereby, the passwords in WordPress stay untouched / unchanged as they were prior vBSSO plugin is activated.

Hello, Please I have installed your mod and it is fine but when i login it gives me redirect and remains like that without redirecting.
I also now not able to open my wp-admin it is giving me redirecting of vbulletin
You did create accounts and did not specified email address for each registered one. Make sure you have email specified, additionally have no duplicated accounts (accounts with multiple similar email addresses) and your administrative WP account matches to your vBulletin account (username and email).

Right. If person registers or logs in to vBulletin, having the same email address and username registered previously in WordPress, he is automatically connected.
In case if account doesn't exist in WordPress, vBSSO creates it automatically in WordPress based on vBulletin user profile and all themes and plugins are fully compatible to work for this user.

It pops up because you have account duplicates in your forum's users database. There are two options how you can resolve this:
Merge accounts through AdminCP -> Users -> Merge Users.
Or just delete unused account with the similar email address.

I haven't tried this addon; however, from the documentation on the initial posting, I'm assuming it only works "one way" (i.e., other programs share vbulletin's login.)
However, does this addon work the other direction (or suggest an addon that does?)
Basically, I'm interested in having vbulletin use another authentication for allowing users to login to vbulletin. For example, a person would enter a login/password in vbulletin...then, if it doesn't exist/match, then vbulletin would ask another .php file to authenticate elsewhere before giving up. If that makes sense....

Hi.
Is there a tweak I could do, or maybe it is already implemented to use this plugin as a SSO but in the other way around? I mean, Signing-in in other application signs-in on vBulletin.
I need to connect to a third-party RPC authentication system so every user already signed up can log in to vBulletin without registration. Any clues?

kleinschwanz, vBSSO doesn't modify any of the standard templates and couldn't be a reason. I guess anything else might be a cause of the issue. You should try to analyze what was done around the vbulletin forum in your case or get a programmer to help you figure this out.

I finally got around to connecting vBulletin and Word Press, but had to disconnect them.
While connected, anyone who tried to log-in via the forums were shown the "now logging you in page" over and over and over.... An endless loop.

I have tested it with wordpress 3.3 and vb 4.1.9, it's working fine however I am facing some minor issues like:
- When we click on the logout option (both on vb and wordpress) it just redirects to a blank page and don't logout the user.
- If I manually do the logout using the vbulletin URL: login.php?do=logout then it just make the user logout from the vbulletin forum, user remains logged-in in the wordpress, I can't seem to find a solution for logging-out the user from WP.
Lastly, I thought that this plugin use the vbulletin to control the user access, but it don't work like this..all this addon do is just sync the vbulletin users with the wordpress, so for example if the ABCD user change his info in the vbulletin then he/she have to change his/her information the wordpress too (like email etc) :S am I right?

Uninstalled, but tagged for possible future use.
Even though I removed the connection and no one other than me ever used it .... vBSSO would every so often send me a small warning e-mail.
PHP WARNING: [2] fopen(/var/attachments/2/71.thumb): failed to open stream: No such file or directory on line 252 in file /var/www/forums/attachment.php. PHP 5.3.8-1~dotdeb.2 (Linux)
And sometimes
PHP WARNING: [2] Invalid argument supplied for foreach() on line 210 in file /var/www/forums/includes/functions_threadedmode.php. PHP 5.3.8-1~dotdeb.2 (Linux)
I thought it was odd that vBBSO was sending me these e-mails (which there is an option for it to do) when I clearly wasn't even using it.

The loop might mean that vBSSO is unable to verify account for the connected WordPress platform. One vBulletin account might match several WordPress accounts. We will add this to our tasks list and handle this case in our next versions.

It looks like that these are vBulletin error reporting messages. Did you specify "Email Notifications Addresses" and enable "Email Notifications" at admincp -> vBSSO -> Logging & Notifications?

YES :o
But after removing the connection, shouldn't it stop reporting? It wasn't so much an issue, but had my a little confused. One of those errors is someone was looking for an attachment that I had deleted, but the other had me confused because I had disconnected the link between vBulletin and WordPress, so I couldn't understand why it was telling me there was a log-in error between the two.

Actually, it looks like vBulletin didn't remove a reference to the previously deleted file. In your case vBSSO was configured to capture all WARN messages and that's why you saw that error lines.
Those errors are actually belong to vBulletin, but we have noted such case and will think how to handle this in future.

Agreed. So far the plugin is quite good to start a network up quickly from scratch based on vBulletin and WordPress platforms.
From other hand we are in internal brainstorm period of thinking to connect already existing accounts and letting users to change their username and email address in platforms.
If somebody opens to share the vision how they would like to see this, that's greatly appreciated!

ndahiya, we don't honestly think that our commitment is going to be a growth of the platform related features at the moment. We have noted your advice and definitely get back to the consideration in 2012.

i believe there are 3 components to integration:
1. user authentication and sign on integration
2. look and feel
3. other addons (like, showing wikiedits in the profile page etc).
for me, the 1st is the key (the 2nd would be useful, but not critical per se). it would be great if mediawiki was included in the list of supported platforms. the other things will be taken care of by other sers, once the signon functionality is standardized and stable.

udhien, vBSSO doesn't actually import avatars. The concept of avatars implemented in vBSSO is to address an avatar request to a certain avatar url published by vBulletin, No copying of files physically.

Got this up and running rather easily on my site. I did need to make sure to have rewrites enabled so that both Wordpress and vBulletin defaulted with a www. in front of the domain otherwise I ran into issues with the cookies being recognized across both platforms.
I turned on e-mail logging and am getting a bunch of errors regarding "localEmailLogger" Most of the errors are saying "Communication: Unable to accept response:" Everything seems to be working fine though, so should I just ignore this error?
Also, any ETA on a Drupal version? Would love to see this happen very soon!

We don't recommend to ignore these errors if they are thrown during platform connection phase. Also the debug information found there could point you to the source of the error.
Regarding the ETA, we just have been contributing to vBSSO depending on the team availability time. therefore we cannot guarantee the certain ETA date. We cay say that we have Drupal in our priority tasks list to get it connected.

Right. We actually faced the similar issue with other guys too, where the reason was in their hosting provider. There was a configuration blocked internal requests and they had to change their hosting environment. So, that's not really a software issue and we recommend to figure this out with your hosting provider.

My hosting provider responded with this:
If I could get some technical information about how it works and what it does behind the scenes, I might be able to identify the problem and fix it. A simple 403 Forbidden message tells me nothing without some context as to what the system was trying to do.

My hosting provider responded with this:
Briefly telling the plugin installed on vBulletin side actually opens CURL connection to WordPress platform and gets response error code 403 Forbidden. From other side vBSSO WordPress url/page is accessible outside if somebody opens it in a browser as usual, thus something blocks the requests initiated by CURL PHP library to host where WordPress is installed. You might like explaining this to your hosting provider, so, let them take a look at source code or give me access to your environment(if it's possible) to test this out on a quick sample and show this to your hosting provider then. Please don't hesitate to send me a private message if you want to be in touch according to your environment.

Mostly. I recently switched over to storing stylesheets as files and found that unless I turn this mod off while I'm saving those changes, it'll say that it can't write to the stylesheet directories. Ownership and permissions are fine and it saves the stylesheets as it should when this mod is disabled.
It is pretty annoying to have to remember to shut this off every time I touch something else that will force a stylesheet save. Anyone else have this issue?

“I am trying to figure out the problem with your application not working correctly. I cannot seem to replicate it or diagnose it further....
We are using a WHM/Cpanel setup. Your last post to him said it was attempting to curl his wordpress site and receiving a 403 Forbidden error. I have setup a page in his vbulletin site that attempts to access the connector url, which is http://mysite/wp-content/plugins/vbsso/vbsso.php
I set up a demo page to test it. It uses curl to grab the above link and output the result. It seems to work fine.

now the questions: how can i set the link to vbulleting profile in the WP comments? now, thanks to your avatar feature, i have the avatar...but i really need to create a link on the nickname and the avatar as well to the user's vbulletin profile...can you help me to do this?
the second one: i have a website with a lot of articles and comments...after vbsso installation the users avatars who commented the news before the upgrade with this bridge, has disappeared. Instead with new comments work like a charm. how can i refresh all the old comments with updated avatars? Do you know some tips, tool, or sql snippets to refresh it all?
Please, i need help :(

Hey, you guys.
Unfortunatly I've experienced a few problems. I'm running vB 4.1.11 under boards.example.com and WordPress 3.3.1 under blog.example.com. vB is my "Core-System", so registration should only be available on it, but users need to be able to access WordPress as well (using ClassiPress Premium Theme).
After I found your great vBSSO Plugin I've installed it instantly ;)
Everything worked fine, the system established the connection and wordpress was fetching the users logging in to vB (they show up in WPs users list). But they are not logged in to wordpress automatically and cannot login via WPs login form (password error).
Another problem is, that I can't sign out of my wp admin account anymore. WP redirects me straight back to WP Dashboard after clicking the Sign out button keeping me logged in.
I just have no idea what to do... Would be great to hear from you, I need your help :/

Alex, try please to back to your vBulletin, try to sign out there first. It should sign out all the connected platforms and start working next time as soon as you are logged in.

Hi Amaca, thanks for the trying vBSSO :) Sol, regarding the first your question, this feature requires to modify both vBSSO plugins for WordPress and vBulletin to support correct redirect to profile. The 2nd feature starts working if you create new accounts in vBulletin for people who left older comments and associate an avatar with account in vBulletin.
xeagle
03-18-2012, 07:15 PM
Ok... so how exactly would that work or what do you have to do? Besides installing the plugin and adding the wordpress instance...
Like do they have to register on wp with the same email they have in vb or?
There is no needs to create user accounts in WordPress, if person has account in vBulletin and logs in, vBulletin vBSSO creates account in WordPress automatically.

thank you for your answer, but it didn't solve my problem...
I've been trying it for hours, but when I log in to vBulletin and go to my blog afterwards, I'm not logged in to wordpress and even cannot log in manually because it says "wrong password".
But when I log in to my blog with my admin account I see my vBulletin Account in the wordpress user list.
After that I can't even log out of Wordpress anymore, it just redirects me (saying "Logging you out.") back to the page I'm currently viewing.
What can I do?

The 2nd feature starts working if you create new accounts in vBulletin for people who left older comments and associate an avatar with account in vBulletin.
i don't understand...how can i associate an avatar with account in vbulletin? is there a feature that can do that?
some of my members and I are having the same problem, we're logged into vb but not logged in to wp - and we cant login to wp...
recently my system is doing the same thing...
And other bug: some new users after registration aren't recognized by wordpress, and you can't see them in the users list of wp. Or sometimes the user's avatar doesn't work in wordpress, but only in the forum.
can you help me? have you some tips?
They are big problems and i m thinking to delete the bridging method...but it's a very bad thing.:(

The Profile fields are used to transfer first name, last name of the user, etc from forum to blog in case when user registers account in vB.
Access settings are used to restrict auto login to blog, for example the person who signs in from forum, might not be in to blog automatically or person who signs in from blog should be signed in automatically in both platforms.

It doesn't impact to the functionality of the plugin. The reason is WordPress defines this constant in case of profile page only and doesn't in other cases. We will put update of the WordPress plugin this month and it will include the required fix.

Could you please try to check if your url address something like below is accessible from browser.

If file exists but url is not accessible, hence the reason of this might be a web server configuration settings. If url is accessible I would you like to send us the log files collected by vbsso/logs/ folder.

Ok so i tested on localhost, it seems its a cURL issue with my host. Not exactly sure but i need to speak with them about it and see what is causing it.
As for the other issue now, on localhost when i click login it takes me just to the forum index, regardless of what i set the url to in the admin. Is there a way to bypass this and make it hit the login page correctly?

In case of CURL issue you might like to ask your hosting provider to make it working. So, regarding the login url, please make sure login url is specified under vBSSO settings page in admin area and it points to full url address starting from http:// or https://.

Fatal error: Class 'LoggerReflectionUtils' not found in /usr/local/etc/httpd/vb/member.php(515) : eval()'d code on line 95
There's another symptom: when the vbSSO plugin is enabled (including when enabling it), we get this error message when enabling/disabling plugins: Failed to write css files. Please make sure that the directory 'clientscript/vbulletin_css' is writable".
These all disappear when the vbSSO plugin is disabled.

We didn't make any adjustments in our libraries we use and the cause of the 1st issue might be because you didn't copy all the files to the destination folder and vbsso is unable to find some of these libraries.
2nd issue is actually related to vBulletin. vBulletin is able to be switched on to cache css in files and the certain folders have to have a correct permissions to handle this. It looks like vBulletin tries to update its caches and throws such error.
If you have any other issues you are free to drop me a message to PM and we will take a look at your installation.

Also, any timetable on the Joomla version? I'm excited to get my hands on that.

Well, I'm willing to throw a little extra in the donation I'm planning if it will expedite the process. ;)

Have you thought about using jfusion from jfusion.org it has an intergrated system that works, with joomla, vbulletin and gallery2, and other software as well. I have been using it for a couple of years now, with minimal problems.

I have it installed but it doesn't seem the sync properly, though everything is installed correctly. This program seems much simpler to configure and maintain too.

Their solution is welcome to be used keeping in mind that the master users table in their case is Joomla. If you have your websites hosted on different hosts and access to database is firewalled, or your websites are located on different domains I'm not sure these are supported by their product and their approach had a lot of the limitations influenced us to start with vBSSO some time ago. At that moment we didn't use Joomla and were not going to use it for a long time.

vBSSO doesn't perform a full sync as soon as it is installed. It tries to link account as soon as account is used. Anyway in case of the tech questions you are always welcome to drop me a PM message.

Can anyone help ?
I'm getting "page not found" when clicking platforms & access settings in the acp.
Probably me being dumb but a point in the right direction would be appreciated :)

It might happen if you didn't download all the files from upload folder(installation package). Could you please check if you uploaded everything from upload/admincp/ to forum/admincp folder?

Right. If you named admincp folder differently in your vBulletin configuration, vbsso.php should be uploaded to that folder. Is it still saying "page not found"?

The cause of the issue that you didn't copy the files from upload/admincp/vbsso.php to your custom admincp folder.
Hi
Tried this addon abit, but now it wont work anymore.
When i try to add my settings, i just get this error up
Unable to verify platform [http://www.gamecon.no/wp-content/plugins/vbsso/vbsso.php] Please analyze log files located at `/home/xabo/domains/gamecon.no/public_html/forum/vbsso/logs/` to detect the cause of the issue.
When i go check for logfiles, the folder is empty....
Any suggestions?

Please verify you follow the proper instructions available at http://vbsso.com/platforms/wordpress/ to connect two platforms. In case of the issue, you are welcome to leave me PM message to help me get more details and identify the cause.

Hi, I followed your instructions for Wordpress but I still can't seem to get it to work. How can I get it so that people on my Wordpress site are actually logging in using my Vbulletin forum? I don't want them to have to create accounts on WordPress and Vbulletin separately.

So it looks like now it's working, but the problem I still have are two things:
1) Impossible to logout from forums or once you're logged in on the WordPress side. Message I get:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /vbsso/vbsso.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apache Server at forums.nyrzone.com Port 80
2) I can't login with my original WordPress accounts before I applied this add-on. Again, because I can't logout from my vbulletin account which is now linked to WordPress.
PLEASE help!

Regarding 404 - guys have already had the similar issue and it strictly depends on and the cause is the apache configuration where mod rewrite blocks urls where url address is passed through GET. Plesae verify your configuration and in case of continual issues drop me a PM message.
Please keep in mind that you are always open to login to WordPress via /wp-login.php script as usual or disable vBSSO WordPress links via custom configuration as described at http://vbsso.com/platforms/wordpress/.

I don't think I have an idea how your web server is configured. I would recommend to contact your hosting facility and let them check it. If you want us to help with this, you are free to drop me a PM message and discuss further steps.
