Ok not sure what I am doing wrong. When in vbulletin admin cp trying to connect words press i get this

What do i need to do?

I am also having this problem. I don't think it's vbSSO as the MediaWiki part worked, but the Wordpress plugin is not connecting.

in media wiki, if you dont want anyone to see the wiki content without first logging in, you do this to the LocalSettings.php file in the wiki root folder:

$wgGroupPermissions['*']['read'] = false;

but if I do that, the connect platform in admincp goes red, and if you log out you can never log back in.

thoughts?

xeagle,
I seem to have a little issue here. The team got most everything fixed, but I want to bypass: /vbsso/vbsso.php?do=verifyemail after someone registers. I have to have them register on my forum and I've got that much fixed and working, however after they submit registration they should be taken to a page with the default vB message about them receiving an e-mail.

I've attached a pic to show you what I mean. The second picture is what should show. This might be a code change that needs to take place.

Thanks!

I am also having this problem. I don't think it's vbSSO as the MediaWiki part worked, but the Wordpress plugin is not connecting.

Please follow instructions how to install a plugin available at http://vbsso.com/platforms/wordpress/. If you verified that you have already installed in properly, activated, and still experiencing connection issues - contact support team http://vbsso.com/report-an-issue/ and report an issue.

What VB usergroup should this be set to?

User groups associating visitors from WordPress platform (separated by comma)

I would love the answers to this..

Can someone explain the vBSSO Access Settings to me?
Allowed User Groups
User groups ids having access to any platform (separated by comma)

Allowed WordPress User Groups
User groups ids having access to WordPress platform (separated by comma)

Associated WordPress User Groups
User groups associating visitors from WordPress platform (separated by comma)

And how come my Admin-group from vB4 can login to wordpress, but regular users can't?
(they should be able to comment, while admin should be able to administer)

Eg. the usergroups are completely unclear to me. Thanks for any help or reply in advance!

How do you customize the wiki.

"Show vBSSO Login Form Widget"

And how do you change

Platform Address. Use this address to connect this platform to vBSSO. This is for 3.8.7

Mostly. I recently switched over to storing stylesheets as files and found that unless I turn this mod off while I'm saving those changes, it'll say that it can't write to the stylesheet directories. Ownership and permissions are fine and it saves the stylesheets as it should when this mod is disabled.

It is pretty annoying to have to remember to shut this off every time I touch something else that will force a stylesheet save. Anyone else have this issue?

Simple fix to this. Just delete the cssrollup_vbsso.xml file in includes/xml. It's got a blank <css> in there, and for some odd reason, the CSS rollup won't accept it. Since there's nothing being rolled into the css files, I haven't had a problem by deleting it.

Hi, that's not a mod problem. You have troubles with your hosting and performance provided by your hosting. People started using scripts, avatars and more of your features through vBSSO and your MySQL server has gone away. Please contact your hosting or system administrator to troubleshoot and configure your server for get it working.

1) It shouldn't happen. If it's reproducible if you disable all your other products, please contact vBSSO support, and provide them accurate scenario how to reproduce this and they will help you to resolve this.

2) There should be instructions while vBSSO pops the error how to fix Glowhost plugins and make this working.

Glowhost is the #2 installed plugin on VB.org.. Shouldnt you guys make it compatible? Glowhost is saying bad coding on VBSSO.

No doubt a DUMB question, sorry... I tried to read this whole thread and could not find the answer anywhere:

Using VB and Drupal - Does the user have to exist in both databases? In other words, when a user signs up for VB, do they also have to have a Drupal login of the same email/user or does this circumvent the druapal user requirement or vice versa?

Sorry to be so dense.

It's not a dense question. There are a few ways to set it up.

1) You may use the built in forms of vBSSO
2) You may use Drupal
3) You may use vB.
4) You may use a combination of both.

You may set the custom URL's yourself which is what I did.

On my site:
If you select "Register" on Wordpress or vBulletin you will be taken to the vBulletin registration. I have many security features on vB, plus I have a couple of additional questions for new members.

I also set my login and log out page to vB. I then created a detailed explanation with pictures on my home page. You can check it out if you like: http://www.place4musicians.com

I was really happy to find this mod. Now I just got to start building my traffic!

Thanks. So if I understand you correctly, I will not have duplicated user login data between Drupal and VB, or will it be posted automatically? I think what you are saying is that I can use the drupal login to access the VB features, or vice versa without duplicate user data.

The VBSSO website does not seem to have great documentation about this. Is it somewhere that I am missing?

Thanks again!

Did you copy the URL and Shared key field from Drupal? The .htaccess is in the vbsso directory of vB. The other .htaccess file is in the location of drupal where you uploaded the files to. I wouldn't think you would want to comment out that information, so you might have to contact vbsso.com to have them take a look at it. just select the "Report an Issue". Create a new user with Admin privileges in drupal and vB so they have access to see the issue.

It's Wordpress, not Drupal, but doesn't matter anyway I think. Yep. i copied the path which the vBSSO Wordpress plugin gave me, but I just get the Error 500. I already checked the both htaccess files, in both there are not such code (which i talked from in the upper post).

I get this Error 500 even if I just copy the url, taken from vBSSO plugin (settings page) installed on the connected platform to my browser. So there seems to be something wrong with the wordpress plugin?

I just wrote a Ticket via "Report an Issue"...

Could it be that vBSSO for Wordpress has problems with usernames that contain spaces? VB supports such usernames, and vBSSO creates the Wordpress user with spaces in its name. But e.g. the author link of Wordpress (http://www.mydomain.com/author/TiKu/) is without the spaces and therefore Wordpress does not find any article.
Maybe spaces should be replaced by underscores for the user name?

Regards
TiKu

What is the purpose of it adding Google tracking code for Google ID UA-25094208-2?

The ID is for techenclave according to http://pub-db.com/techenclave.com.html

I have deactivated it until I know why, thanks.

Does this have the ability to do VB 4.x.x and VB 4.x.x connecting multiple forums on multiple domains with multiple vb licenses.

This question was asked back in 2011 and the response then suggested that it might happen one day. Is there any news on this ?

Hello, I am getting a whole lot of errors at the warning log. Im trying to find the code to fix but I cant find any of those errors. Can you help?

WarningsWe have identified the potential buggy hooks / plugins conflicted with vBSSO. If you experience any issues with vBSSO, please resolve the conflicts before contacting the support team.
You need to replace highlighted code with this pattern:

what am i doing wrong? :S

The reason is that you might have no wp-config.php available on your root wordpress folder, or access to that file is restricted somehow, etc. You can check it manually to troubleshoot this, or contact vbsso team with more details of the issue to let them check it out on your server.

One of the best plugins :)

I just have 1 problem:

If I take a look on vbulletins "Who's online" I see also people browsing my wordpress website, what is perfect BUT I see them on the online list 2-3 times, so 2-3 times the same user with the same ip on the same wordpress article.

The links they are watching, look like this:
/forums/vbsso/vbsso.php?do=avatar&id=4d83ec8f65261ced115188e1f045e324

So it has to do with the avatars what are used in wordpress comments i guess.

Could you take a look at this please? Does anybody else have this problem?

Question #1
I would probably need a link to your site to see what you are talking about, and then I might be able to give you assistance on it.

I had it set to all new memberships were linked to vB because there is where I have set my spam guards, but like I said I may need to see your forum to help out.

Edit: I don't have it running right now, I'm still waiting on the update which I hope is coming soon!!

Question #2
You can set the links to the login page the way you desire. After a member logs in they will be redirected back to their previous location.

Hi,

I am having some major issues with my site and I think it has to do with the plugin. I was using it and it was working fine and now I can't access my admin panel in vBulletin and I can't access any php in my Wordpress site.

I have tried in all browsers, I have troubleshooted all the necessary steps to get rid of the white screen of death for Wordpress, but none have worked. I am trying to disable this plugin on both sites, and that would probably be the fix, but I can't access the admin panels!

Help please!!!

Type the exact link to vB admin and don't try to access it from the site. The links may not work correctly. I had the same issue and have been waiting for an update. You do not have to uninstall, but you may disable it in both WP and vB.

Thanks for the reply!

I just tried that. I logged in with my admin account. Then typed in the url bar mydomain.com/forum/admincp and it takes me to a redirect to verify my login, I retype in my info, then it basically logs me in again and takes me to mydomain/forum/admincp/index.php blank page. I then tried typing in mydomain.com/forum/admincp again and it is also blank.

Any other thoughts?

I even tried manually disabling the plugins on vBulletin by editing the config.php with define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true); but it still doesn't let me log in

1st look at your FTP and see the direct structure. Normally "forums" is added in the directory structure on its own. Your default address should be yourdomain.com/admincp unless you have another subdirectory that the forum resides in. I can't be more specific without a screenshot of your directories.

Have you tried to pull the files out via FTP? That might do the trick. Otherwise we are going to have to install tools into the Admin directory and go work around it another way. Once you remove the files you should get access back. Let me know if that works.

Okay go into your database and you will find 3 tables called vbbso_listeners, vbbso users, and one other. Disable or remove them. That is what is causing your redirect issue.

Hmmm. I looked in almost every folder. I didn't see them. Do you know where they might be located?

They are tables in the database. I use phpmyadmin to access my database. Some people use other programs. There are only 3 tables starting with vbsso_

If you don't have access you need to have your provider give it to you. There are some occasions when you need directions access.

Isn't Cyber duck an FTP client? You can only see files and folders on the server with that. You need full access to the database. If someone hacks your site you need access to the database to correct issues.

In the mean time download vB again if you don't already have a copy. In the "do_not_upload" folder you will see tools.php upload that to admincp folder. Now access the Admincp page by your domain.com/forums/admincp/tools.php you must remember to remove that file after you finish cleaning.

Tried the tools.php and it didn't change anything. Still get blank screens when accessing any php in wp or vbulletin. I emailed vBSSo customer support and they suggested this:

If you have an issue to log in to WordPress, you are free to use <wordpress>/wp-login.php script to get in. Additionally you are free to disable vBSSO login by opening config.custom.default.php file and setting 'override-links' => false

But that didn't do anything either.

Cheers. This is working great. Although I do have an issue where my main wordpress account is not the same as my administrator account on my vB forum. It's not a big problem, it's just that admin account on my vB forum and WP site are not linked. (Meaning, I have to keep logging out into my main admin account on WP)

Right, so far vBSSO requirement is to have all the accounts aligned having the same username / email in both system. It's a limitation, however we expect to jump up this year to avoid this limitation.

I've tried so hard to get this mod to work on a test site over the last 6 months, using different versions, different installs, even different servers and hosts... but it just doesn't connect properly.

My intention is to link a wiki, but I've been testing on a wordpress site for the sake of simplicity. The folder structure for these installations is that both sit in their own folder relative to root. So vB is in: "root/forum/..." and Wordpress is in "root/site/...".

On initial installation in both vB and wordpress, I attempt to connect the wordpress platform by taking the values from the Wordpress "vBSSO Settings" page and adding them to the vB "Connect a Platform" ACP page. For example:

Address: http://www.example.com/site/wp-content/plugins/vbsso/vbsso.php
Key: 123456789

On doing this for the first time on a clean vB installation, it appears to validate the connection as the details are added at the bottom of the page and are in lovely green text.

I add the necessary usergroup IDs to the vB "Access Settings" page, but no matter what I do, the account does not log into Wordpress. If I press "login" on the front end of the Wordpress site, the vB "logging you in" screen shows, but does not log me into Wordpress. If I press it again, there is an error message (can't remember what it says, but logfiles suggested that it was because the username already existed???).

On reviewing the previously added connection in the "Connect a Platform" ACP page, the text is now red???

If I delete that platform connection and attempt to re-connect that platform using the same (or different) values, the process no longer succeeds and simply throws an error:

Unable to verify platform [http://www.example.com/site/wp-content/plugins/vbsso/vbsso.php]
Please analyze log files located at `/home/partcser/public_html/example.com/forum/vbsso/logs/` to detect the cause of the issue.

Logs are enabled to show "all" levels of severity, but nothing is recorded regarding this now-failing connection.

I can't understand from the little documentation where I'm going wrong. Like others have indicated, I'm willing to pay for a Pro version of this (or branding free... whatever) as it's a much-needed feature, but I simply cannot get it to work as it's described.

tambo,
I had a similar issue at first, and in reading posts learned a couple of things.

1) Make sure that user names are one word and not two. Example: "Mr Robot" is allowed in vB but not on WP. This is primarily because it will break the URL. In other words "Mr Robot" would be translated to "Mr%20Robot". I have not found a work around on this issue. This means that all users on vB that have a space would need to use an underline "_" to make it work which means the name would need to be "Mr_Robot" or "Mr-Robot" would work as well.

2) This mod still does not work for "https", which isn't a problem for you, but I've been waiting for the update. I did pay for the pro version! I'm hoping this will be resolved soon.

Try to completely remove all of the files for the Mod, clean the database for WP, then start from scratch and make sure that there are no spaces in user names. I think periods are fine like "Mr.Robot" because it will should not mess up the URL but I would not suggest it. See if that was the issue.

Dear tambo,

At first glance you properly try to connect a platform and your connection issue would be due to the using "https" (https support version is under testing, going to be released asap) or filling up the Access Settings incorrectly. Could you please clean up "Access Settings" and try to connect your platform again. If the problem is persistent for you, please contact a support team (http://vbsso.com/report-an-issue/ it's thankfully free now) and send them temporary access to your forum and wordpress to let them troubleshoot that issue.

Thank you,

I am going to use vBSSO with Drupal 6. and have a couple of questions. Sorry if they sound stupid:

- Does vBSSO work with VB 5?
- Is synchronization bi-directional? (I mean people can register to Drupal and get authenticated into VB and vice versa?

- Is banning users goes bi-directional? (Or I need to ban each user in both Drupal and VB?)

- What happens if the same user has different passwords on Drupal and VB? Which set of passwords will be overwritten, if any? (This is the senario which I will have after converting my actual Drupal forum to VB)

Thanks

Yeah for new release! Thanks guys!

But I've a little problem. I've 2 vbulletin with 2 differente license and 2 wordpress web site.
All sites are bridged that you see here: http://imm.io/16LWs

With admin account I can login in all plaform, but with a registred user account (of main forum) I don't get detected by any platforms.

(I've put in main forum the user group id in "Allowed User Groups" field, but there's nothing to do)

What can it be?

Thanks again

It might happen only in one case if your account on the connected forum is in conflict. Could you please query your database for two forums and see the account you use has the same username / email address pair on master forum the same as on the connected forum?

Not all users have the same name because some users have registered with the same name in both forums. However I did a test and I registred a new user on the main forum, but the bridge doesn't work and it keeps me logged only on the main forum.

Thanks for getting in contact with support. The cause of the issue is a permission where user has no permission to view forum (connected slave vBulletin forum). To make vBSSO handle this the solution has been already implemented and next version of vBSSO vBulletin extension will be updated to support and handle that case.

Are you using "Post Thank You Hack"? vBSSO doesn't handle post related hooks and shouldn't impact this.

Just giving you the quick overview:

#1 - vBSSO doesn't have officially released version for vBulletin 5.
#2 - The synchronization is performed in one way from vBulletin to other supported platforms.
#3 - The same scenario as above.
#4 - The passwords registered at vBulletin are used.

...useful stuff...

Thanks for the reply, man. I kinda gave up on Wordpress as it just would not connect properly, however, I have had more success with mediawiki (of a sort), which leads me to...
Dear tambo,

...Could you please clean up "Access Settings"...

Xeagle,

I've managed to get this connected to MediaWiki 1.20.6, however, I'm having some real difficulties understanding what each setting is supposed to do.

You've made something that looks awesome. The downside of that is that you now get a load of demanding people trying to use it! :D

I need help... but you guys seriously need some step-by-step documentation and definitions! So I figured I'd construct my question in a way that starts making that documentation for you... and you can fill in the blanks.

Things you need to clarify are in red.

Here is my current Vbulletin-MediaWiki set-up:

Step 1: vBulletin Installation

Upload everything from the unzipped "upload" folder to the `/` root directory of forum (in my case "/vb")
Log in to forum Admin Control Panel as administrator
Navigate to 'Plugins & Products' section
Expand section and click on the 'Manage Products' link
Scroll down in the right-hand frame until you find 'Add/Import Product' link
Click on the link and browse for vbsso.xml file
Click on the import button

Step 2: MediaWiki Installation

Download MediaWiki vBSSO.
Unzip and upload everything to `/extensions/vbsso/` directory of your MediaWiki installation.
Log in to MediaWiki as administrator.
Open `LocalSettings.php` file in the root of MediaWiki installation and add:
require_once( “$IP/extensions/vbsso/vbsso.php” );
Make sure that *.conf files are writable. (I see two such files: "platform.conf" and "vbsso.conf" - who should they be writable to? At the point of installation, chmod is set to 644. Is this enough?)

Step 3: MediaWiki Configuration

Log into Administrator account on MediaWiki installation.
Navigate to 'Special Pages'.
At the bottom, under 'Other special pages', click 'vBSSO' and you will be taken to the 'Special:Vbssoconfig' page.
Fill in the shared platform key to one of your choice (this will need to match what you put in vBulletin in the next step).
Click Submit.
Your completed form should now look like this:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/05/7.png

Step 4: vBulletin Configuration

Log in to forum Admin Control Panel as administrator
Navigate to the vBSSO section near the top of the left-hand frame
Expand the section and click 'Connect a Platform'
Insert the respective details from the wiki's 'Special:Vbssoconfig' page. Your completed form should look like this:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/05/8.png

Click 'Connect'.
After receiving confirmation, you should now have the following connection in green at the bottom of the page:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/05/9.png

At this point, any vBulletin account can successfully log into MediaWiki as a 'User'. However, I would like to restrict this to particular usergroups. In the example below, I go to 'Access Settings' and set the usergroup to 6 (vBulletin Admin usergroup number).

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/05/10.png

Despite this, it's still permitting access to other usergroups. 'Registered Users' (usergroup 2) are able to log into and edit the wiki.

Further questions that aren't clear to me:

What do the 'Login Access Setting' do, and why are they arranged in a 2x2 checkbox formation? They don't seem to have an effect.

If I were to remove the top-right checkbox (the only one I can toggle in the example above), what is supposed to be the effect?

Also, what is the effect of the 'Connection Settings' and 'Master Platform'? On installation, I left it alone, but have since changed it to match the MediaWiki key, as shown below. Again, it has not made much difference.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/05/11.png

Assuming the plugin does handle usergroups, how does the plugin handle a change of usergroup? So if I ban someone in vBulletin, is their access revoked in MediaWiki too?

tambo, great start for knowledge base! Unfortunately we admit there is a lack of useful documentation and the summer is a season when vBSSO is committed to change this to the better state.

Regarding to your questions:
Q: Make sure that *.conf files are writable. (I see two such files: "platform.conf" and "vbsso.conf" - who should they be writable to? At the point of installation, chmod is set to 644. Is this enough?)

A: platform.conf and vbsso.conf. In most cases 644 is not enough, because the web application server should have a permission to update those files.

Q: Despite this, it's still permitting access to other usergroups. 'Registered Users' (usergroup 2) are able to log into and edit the wiki.

A: It shouldn't happen, we will check it.

Q: What do the 'Login Access Setting' do, and why are they arranged in a 2x2 checkbox formation? They don't seem to have an effect.

A: It's another type of configuration. For example if there are more than 2 platforms connected to vBulletin it makes sense to log user from WordPress and skip sign-in to MediaWIki for example and it's regulated by checkbox from left(source platform) to right(destination platform).

Q: Also, what is the effect of the 'Connection Settings' and 'Master Platform'? On installation, I left it alone, but have since changed it to match the MediaWiki key, as shown below. Again, it has not made much difference.

A: Connection Settings are used if you want to connect one vBulletin forum to another one and slave forum settings are configured at Connection Settings.

Q: Assuming the plugin does handle usergroups, how does the plugin handle a change of usergroup? So if I ban someone in vBulletin, is their access revoked in MediaWiki too?

A: Latest version of MediaWiki doesn't support usergroups. MediaWiki usergroups support is in progress.

We hope our answers bring more understanding to you.

#1 Just ensure that your *.conf files are writable by application server, so, keep using extension connecting mediawiki to vBulletin.

#2 if 'Access Settings' is specified, yes, access only to those certain usergroups is allowed, otherwise for all.

Why Is A SSL Certificate Required?

With booming Internet trends and fraud, most will not submit their private details on the web unless they know that the information they provide is securely transmitted and not accessible for anyone to view.

hello,

i would like to use your single sign on system to have vb users post comments on wp articles. but i do want to keep my wp users (editors / my staff) to create the content.
a couple of weeks/months ago you told me this is on your list - are there any news about it?

also, does your plugin work with the WP Plugin "WP Super Cache" ? Right now I am using the lampwrights plugin for the needs described above, but WP Super Cache doesnt work with it, so I would be happy if vbSSO would solve the problem - would be happy to buy the pro version if it does its job.

Hi rmd1,

Answering your first question - yes, it's possible. The recent release of vBSSO vBulletin and vBSSO WordPress supports usergroups <> roles synchronization. To accomplish this, you should create the required roles in WordPress grant them the necessary permissions, configure usergroups in vBulletin, open vBSSO WordPress Settings and connect those roles to the certain vBulletin usergroups. This would connect your users to the certain WordPess roles.

Regarding to the SuperCache, we recommend you to contact vBSSO support team - http://vbsso.com/request-new-feature/ and they would help you to figure out.

Having trouble with "forum/vbsso/profile.php?do=dst" which gives the user a 404 on registration. If I disable vBSSO in vB, it works lite i should.

It looks like the vBulletin option "Always use Forum URL as Base Path" is turned off. It has to be enabled.

It shouldn't make any difference generally. Could you please contact support team http://vbsso.com/report-an-issue/ describing the steps you use to reproduce your case on your website.

Thanks for the reply!!! Trying the new version out ASAP. If it works, I go Pro and spend some money on you guys :)

The error message clearly states that PHP ZIP extension is missing on hosting where your forum is running. Please ask your hosting facility to install PHP zip extension.

vBSSO doesn't support two ways sync between connected platforms yet. vBulletin is always maser system so far and all the connected platforms are slave ones.

Since my hosting guys installed PHP zip extension, I haven't been able to access AdminCp. Gives a 404 Not Found error. Please advise.

While the forum pages (front-end) seems to be working fine. May be because the Forum page URLs are re-written to be HTML and retrieved as HTML pages (not PHP).

Yes, that might be a reason, we recommend you to review your .htaccess file to identify potential rewrite rules that might break it. Additionally you are free to contact vBSSO support http://vbsso.com/request-new-feature/ sent your .htaccess to let them review and asisst you. Thank you.

I'm having a problem with access rights in the Mediawiki extension.
Trying to limit read access of the wiki to forum members only, I set
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['read'] = false;
in the Mediawiki config.
This however seems to lock out VBSSO completely, the single sign on no longer works.

Whitelisting Special:UserLogin doesn't do a difference either.

The api.php documentation mentions the vbsso plugin requires read rights. How do I assign these?

Hi xeagle ,

are you sure that vbsso is fully compatible with Tapatalk? When I activate vbsso product on vbulletin ( 4.1.11 ) , some tapatalk features doesn't work . In the Tapatalk site, on my control panel I get this:

Warning!
API Key has not been filled or incorrectly filled. Tapatalk can continue to work without API Key but Push Notification and Single Sign-On features are disabled. Please copy the API Key provided in the "Basic" section and paste it in your forum AdminCP, Tapatalk Settings.

Obviously the tapatalk API key is inserted correctly into Vbulletin settings --> Tapatalk settings.

Disabling vbsso , everything come to works normally and the error message disappear.

I think there's some issue with tapatalk API key.

Could you check it please?

I want to do premium subscriptions on my forum which changes a users usergroup. This seems to work fine in VB but it doesn't change the usergroup in VBSSO for wordpress. This is not allowing me to make it so my users will not see ads on my wordpress site.

My question is how to I make it so it pulls the usergroup from the vb side to do the check as VBSSO only seems to update the usergroup the first time they register/login to WP.

vBSSO actually hides user profile inputs to change password in WordPress. In meantime user is free to change its own password in vBulletin and use it further.

vBSSO doesn't touch passwords in WordPress and single sign-on is relied on passwords stored in vBulletin users database only. Thereby, the passwords in WordPress stay untouched / unchanged as they were prior vBSSO plugin is activated.

That's not happening, I can see the password change fields when I click edit users or profile in worspress (VB 4.2.1 + WP 3.6)

Regarding the password reset issue: It seems to be related to the "vBSSO User Data Post Save" plugin (userdata_postsave). Disabling it makes password reset work again, but I guess Wordpress can get out of sync now.

TiKu
08-27-2013, 09:44 PM
Additional info: I also had to disable the "vBSSO Global Start" plugin, which doesn't seem to do anything anyway (which makes the whole problem more weired).

So, to make the password reset links work again, I had to disable 2 plugins: "vBSSO Global Start" and "vBSSO User Data Post Save". This does not yet make the message '{"product":1,"version":"4.1.11","plugin_version":"1.4.12"}' vanish, but at least the users receive the mail with the new password again.

Could the developer of this AddOn please comment on this issue?

Only wordpress administrators can see their wordpress profiles when vBulletin and Wordpress are synced and "Edit profile in vBulletin" option is turned ON. If "Edit profile in vBulletin " option is turned OFF, everyone will able to edit their profiles in Wordpress, but noone will able to change theirs passwords except of wordpress adminstrators, because passwords fields are hidden now.

vBSSO is slick the way it works. My only complaint is the lack of documentation on how to do a few things.

For example, one thing I can't figure out how to do in my drupal/VB setup is to refresh the drupal login when the VB is still logged in.

In other words, when I go to drupal initially, it thinks I am not logged in, but I am logged into VB. If I go to VB and back, drupal still thinks I am not logged in. I have to go to {drupalinstall}/user/login which forces me to the VB user profile page (or a vb login if I am not logged in). I can then go back to drupal and will be logged in.

I'm trying to keep drupal and VB logged in at the same time, or be able via PHP to "refresh" the drupal login when a page is visited based on the the vb login status.

I'm not sure this makes sense, but what would be nice is a vBsso function I could call in drupal that would test for active vb login, and update drupal to the logged in state.

Thanks for any help!

sj

supercub

So another fix for me, would be to have a link/function in vBsso where I could call it, it would test / accept the login, and then return to the page it was called from (which could be a part of the function).

I have to assume this exists somewhere in vbsso, I just can't find it!

Thanks!

I have this figured out on the wordpress side but I am not sure how to read what VB usergroup the user is in on the WP side to remove ads there. What is the PHP code I need or WP short code would be even better (i.e. ( is_user_logged_in() ) but for vbulletin usergroup.

Thanks in advanced.

Man... I installed this plugin and it crapped out the whole forum and robbed me of admincp access, throwing up an error instead. Couldn't even gain access with tools.php.

I figured out the issue (giving the "logs" folder write permissions for groups and public resolved the code errors and gave me back access. I promptly disabled the product and took those permissions off of that folder. Seems a little worrisome that a) such a thing would completely break vb and rob someone of admincp access, and b) that the folder needs public write permissions in the first place.

Was really looking forward to trying out this plugin, but I'm quite hesitant now. A note in the install instructions would have been helpful. Has anyone else experienced such an issue with this plugin?

Hey xeagle:

Thanks for all of your work over the years. After reading through this thread, I think I'm trying to solve a similar problem as a couple of other folks: I'd like to integrate my existing Drupal 4 stack with a vb5 install.

I'm imagining that I can mostly use VBSSO on the vb side, but that I'll have to create or heavily modify the code on the drupal side.

Is there anything that comes to mind that you think will help me at the outset of this project? Or could you put me in touch with anyone who you think would be able to point me in the correct direction?

Also, if you have an accurate version of the api docs, that would be most appreciated.

We recently moved our old blog to Wordpress, and we have a large user base in vBulletin, so we wanted to make if easier for logged-in vBulletin users to comment on the Wordpress blogs. So, we are trying out this plugin.

We turned off the link while we are cleaning up some migration issues.

However, even with the link broken, the plugin was adding a second Google Analytics code to our footer, which we did not enter and which did not match our actual GA account or the code on our vBulletin install.

We found this code in /wp-content/plugins/vbsso/includes/vbsso_shared.php:

define ('VBSSO_PLATFORM_FOOTER_GA_HTML', "<script type=\"text/javascript\"> var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-25094208-2']); /*_gaq.push(['_trackPageview']);*/ /*track_event_marker*/ (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? 'https://ssl' : 'http://www') + '.google-analytics.com/ga.js'; var s = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })(); </script>");

Does anyone know how this got into in there, and the proper way to remove it?

I'm running WP 3.7 and not having any issues. There are a couple of things to check to make sure the system is working correctly.

1) Same password must be used on both WP and vB. If not then log into both admin interfaces and make sure they are set accordingly then save.

2) Make sure that you have the simple key and link set properly.

3) No under vBSSO link custom pages, this is something I did. I link registration to http://www.yoursite.com/where_your_forum_is_located/register.php This is the default location of vB registration. If you need the correct URL then log out and select the registration link. Then copy and paste the exact URL.

My login and logout page is to forum home page. I bypass all vBSSO login and credentials.

Now the only error that I have faced is logging into admincp. it times out with an error, but simply selecting the admin link at the bottom of the forum will open the AdminCP.

I haven't had any other issues using this method, maybe give it a try.

Thanks Syxguns for the quick and detailed replies.

I will try your method. Could be Wordpress 3.7 works over 3.6, not sure.

Thanks for the tip about the custom urls, I saw that setting in VB but didn't really know what it was.

Also, any idea how to change the URL that the user lands on after they've logged in? Right now it goes to my forum 'latest activity' page when users log in. I'd want it going somewhere else.

With vBSSO, the page should default to where they were. For example, I'm on WP and select to sign in. I'm taken to vB to sign in or register. After I sign in, I am defaulted back to WP where I started.

However, let's just look at vB. The newer version of vB automatically defaults to "What's New?". To change this it is simple.

Admincp > Settings > Navigation Manager

You will see that What's New is set to default meaning this is the first page that is going to show after you log in. If you want the default page to be Forum, then in the drop down box select "Set Default" this will make it the page that shows after you sign in.

The wp-admin is automatically made after you install WP. I don't know what your address is but let's assume you placed it in a sub directory instead of the default directory.

http://www.your_web_address.com/sub_directory/wp-admin

Then use your username, which in your case you said it was admin, then your password. That will log you into the admin portal of WP.

Edit: You may also in the user panel change your admin name to what you would like it to be displayed publicly if you wanted.

I'm not sure about MediaWili, give me a few moments to download the files and look over the instructions. I'll post back shortly.

the only thing i want to do is connect my mediawiki with my vbulletin forum so they can use the same user database

Sharing a database! I'm not sure about that unless mediawili was designed that way. You may have to do some customization to ensure the two databases do not share the same table names. However, this platform will allow you to share users.

Ok, thanks

I tought it was the only way to link both. http://vbsso.com/platforms/mediawiki/

I tought VBSSO was the plugin allowing us to do that.

Maybe i didnt understand it properly, and sorry if i wasted your time.

Thanks

Okay, I have a little more information for you. First, do not edit files with Notepad or any other form of text editor. It is free and highly recommended by professionals to use Notepad++. There are others that are available and free as well, such as Crimson Editor and Alleycode, or you may use Dreamweaver if you have that program. My first suggestion is to download Notepad++ from this link. (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/)

Now using your FTP client download LocalSettings.php from the root directory of MediaWili. After it is downloaded rename it LocalSettings_original.php Then open it in Notpad++. Remember that when you save it save it as LocalSettings.php and don't include the "_original" after it. The point of this is to have the original file in case you make a mistake.

In Notepad++ at the top of the file after <?php the opening tag place this code:

//vBBSO code start
require_once( "$IP/extensions/vbsso/vbsso.php" );
//vBSSO code finish

Make sure the files are writable code 777 if you are on a Linux server. Upload the NEW LocalSettings.php file to your server leaving the original one saved on your computer.

Now I'm not 100% sure but in your MediaWiki you should see a folder called vBBSO. Open it and you should see something called "Special Pages". Download that to your computer, open it with Notepad++ and you should see your shared key and URL to place in vB.

Let me know if you run into any problems, I may be able to help you out.

This mod connects users to two platforms, not the database. In other words:

(layman terminology)

vB database: Users
vB database: vBBSO Users
WP database: Users
WP database: vBBSO Users

But the two databases are not connected.

Answer me this question. On your host when you uploaded mediawiki did you create a new database? I'll look at the installation instructions real quick.

No problem, hopefully you will not have any issues. MediaWiki and vB use two separate databases, and I have found a couple of bridges for them, but not one that compiles the two databases. Use this and test it out. If it is not what you want, then you may ask in the open forums. I found another bridge, but the developer seems to not support it any longer.

Edit: I know about combining databases because I use to have a store that shared a database with vB. It doesn't work any longer because of updates to the store and to vB. So I just did a little customizing using BBCode to link the two together.

WORKS! Exactly what i wanted it to do... you loggin with the forum credentials!

This solved all my problems
In Notepad++ at the top of the file after <?php the opening tag place this code:

Code:
//vBBSO code start
require_once( "$IP/extensions/vbsso/vbsso.php" );
//vBSSO code finish
Make sure the files are writable code 777 if you are on a Linux server. Upload the NEW LocalSettings.php file to your server leaving the original one saved on your computer.

With that, the VBSSO menu in the special pages appeared and i had all the required infos!

Thanks a lot!

Hello!

Thanks for this plugin. I have it installed on vb 4.2.2 and Mediawiki 1.21.2 and on the surface it seems to work fine (it doesn't function smoothly with the Quick Account Swap mod, but since that's not a login action, that's not a surprise.)

However, when I have the forum in debug mode, I get the following error string when I try to enter the admincp:

Notice: Undefined variable: config in /home/[mysite]/public_html/forums/vbsso/vbootstrap.php on line 24

which completely prevents me from getting into the acp.

On the page itself I see the following:

Notice: Constant THIS_SCRIPT already defined in /home/[mysite]/public_html/forums/vbsso/vbsso.php on line 19

Notice: Undefined variable: config in /home/[mysite]/public_html/forums/vbsso/vbootstrap.php on line 24

These errors don't seem to impede the mod's function, but they do make it impossible to get to my ACP in debug mode, which is a problem. I can disable the mod to get back to the ACP, and then the errors just flicker by too fast to see when a page loads. Any advice?

Thank you all in advance for any help. :)

Hello,

I hope someone can offer advice. We are using VBSSO with Wordpress on a production server, after testing it on a development server, and it works fine on both of those.

Now, we have copied that production server--database and all--over to a third server to set up a new staging server. When we copied it, the links between the two systems, vBulletin and Wordpress, were still pointing to the 'www' versions of the blog and forum. We changed the URLs of the system to start with 'staging', but we ended up Removing the link in the vBulletin VBSSO options panel, and deleting the 'vbsso' database entries in the wp_options table, because the links would not work to log in.

Now the problem: when we try to re-establish a connection between the staging forum and the staging Wordpress, we just get an error page, but the space after label 'Error:' was blank. (We know it's connecting, because we have the staging server under basic authentication, and if we don't put the correct username/password in the Connect a Platform panel, we get a "401 Authorization Required" error message in that spot.)

Even though it says there is an error, and no connection is listed on the vBulletin side of vBSSO, options for mapping our custom vB usergroups to Wordpress roles then appear in the Wordpress side settings for vBSSO, and vbsso entries are recreated in the wp_options table. We still can't login to Wordpress through the vBulletin link, either. (We can get to Wordpress admin by going directly to wp-login.php and using a pre-link admin account created in Wordpress.)

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

Nice. So then do I upload the files to the CMS (in our case it's root) instead of the forums dir (which is /forums) which is what the install docs state?

TiKu

As far as I remember I simply followed the install docs. Note that there is a separate vBSSO Wordpress plugin. So you install the vBSSO vB addon for the vB side and the vBSSO WP plugin for the Wordpress side and then you connect both platforms in the settings.

Try to login to WP admin directly /wp_admin, and get directed back to the forum with an error message

You need to uninstall the product from vB, delete cookies and cache, and you should be back where you were before. Also delete all the files and folders from WP and vB via FTP.
Shame there is no solution to this.

Have it installed between VB 4x and Wiki, and there is a gaping hole somewhere on the wiki side that allows anyone to bypass the vbsso and register. I've presented the issue to the developer, but they seem unmotivated to look into it... Suggested a pay for a support ticket on their site, but the option doesn't exist....

My bad, I thought donating to remove the footer might have gotten somewhere when I first installed before we found the issue....

I've recently upgrade my Vbulletin, and mediawiki, and today have install the 2 parts of vbsso for vb and mediawiki.

I'm getting a blank page in the VB admincp on 3 pages.
- Connect a platform
- connection settings
- Access settings.

All the others show up fine.
I've restarted apache, just in case.

Versions:
vbulletin 4.2.0(pl3)
mediawiki 1,20.2
PHP Version 5.3.2-1ubuntu4
curl 7.19.7
mcrypt 2.5.8

Not long after the blank screens appeared, they disappeared again.
But the mod still worked.

I've now upgraded to 4.2.2 (Even with plugins disabled, this mod caused me problems during the upgrade. I had to actually disable the mod as well).

Anyway due to the double posting issue in 4.2.2, I uninstalled VBSSO (and others plugins) in VB, and now I've reinstalled it I need to get to these screens to configure the platform for mediawiki.

I cannot access the above screens, or "Logging and Notification" or "Warnings".
I've read through a fair bit of this thread. Others have had similar issues, but no resolution has been posted.

I have made sure all VBSSO code is accessible, and I have disable all other plugins and it still doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this?

Try contacting them again. A Developer may mark a mod as supported but simply forget to check in on it every so often or not at all, this depends solely on the developer respectfully.

Please note that when donating to a developer for a mod, you're doing just that and nothing more or less. This assumption some tend to have that you're entitled to "something" since you donated money is not accurate and is a false assumption - if you donate, then you donate out of the kindness of your heart, that is what a donation is meant to be and you will receive nothing in return unless the developer does so out of the kindness of their heart ;).

If this SSO "issue" is in fact a major security issue then please let us know and point out where/how you believe it to be so and we'll quarantine the mod and ask the developer to fix. Since there are many other variations of this mod meant to work with systems other than wordpress it will remain up and quite possibly another member may investigate and provide a fix before the developer does, that has happened in the past in other mod threads and will continue to happen .

Emailed them a few times, I will PM you the responses....

The issue is that the system allows you to register on either the vBulletin platform or the Wiki Media platform, bypassing normal registration channels and allows attackers to create user accounts. This is the entire point of the software, and it fails.

We have all normal registration paths disabled on our Wiki installs, funneling everything thru vBulletin/vBSSO, and we go thru and clear out 10 accounts a week on the Wiki that were never created within vBulletin. Add to that, as soon as an account is created on vBulletin, vBSSO creates the account on all other platforms, rather then waiting for the account to be approved.

pmcpa, As far as I have personally uploaded extensions to the vBulletin repository and talked to developers, they didn't confirm that the cause was in vBSSO. Please don't be widely aggressive and rude.

vBSSO is not providing any services and support to you because every time you are extremely rude to them, threaten with different things, blame them. vBSSO didn't sign any contracts with you and you are open to use or do not use vBSSO products.

If by threaten you mean report a flaw via email, and wait 30 days to hear nothing, as that's what we did, then maybe you need to re-examine your business model. We even offered to pay for "expedited support" that you said you offered, but you never responded.

Your mod is designed to streamline and make a single sign on. It doesn't work. It doesn't work with current releases of wikimedia as others have pointed out. The mod is flawed.

We have posted the facts here. If you don't like them, fix them. We have the entire email thread. We will post it here (we have forwarded the thread to vBulletin moderators). These are facts.

Why did we post here? To warn others, there are issues, and it's hard to get them fixed. Again, facts. Don't like these facts, find & fix the flaw. Or at least respond in a timely fashion. Don't want to? Remove the "Supported" Icon, and make it known the plugin is "as-is"

We collect all the facts thrown here. MediaWiki changes their versions from time to time and there is a new bug https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56269 impacted to the extension.

Single sign on between completely different platforms significantly depends on changes in that platforms, hosting configuration, .htaccess configuration, files permissions and a lot of other stuff.

Yes, of course it becomes more complex solution to support this and model is currently revised to publish out much better way to handle this.

You guys I meant that as an in-general statement regarding the Donate button here on most modification threads if the developer has entered in a paypal address in his/her settings it had nothing to do with the vbsso site at all... I see now that you meant their but ok so let's just agree to disagree here by reading the below :p.

I'm assuming that you must manually initiate an upgrade to mediawiki correct? If so then that means you cannot use a newer version with this mod or more specifically you cannot use a version higher than the one used before the bug was introduced until it is fixed (unless that bug has always existed). It's one of those scenarios we see on rare occasions where a mod has not been updated to run on a newer version of vBulletin or php for that matter and if it's someothing a site depends on heavily they tend to not upgrade until the mod is updated to work properly with vB/php version. What that bug states is what you're describing pmcpa and see the comment made on Feb 4th of this year per the link above, seems like a fix is planned for the next release of mediawiki.

xeagle thank you for the links and clarification ;).

Unable to verify platform [http://testsite.local/vbsso/1.0] Please analyze log files located at `/var/www/vhosts/testsiteforum/webroot/vbsso/logs/` to detect the cause of the issue.

Error message:

There is nothing in the log file.

Is this anything to do with me using a local setup for testing?

I’ve searched the Forum on vBulletin.org, but can’t find any replies to similar problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there,

I am looking to moving my current D6 site to D7.

I am currently trying to get vbsso to work locally (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) with a Drupal 7.26 and vBullettin 4.2.2.

With the module enabled in Drupal, and putting the shared key from Drupal into vbsso settings in vBulletin, I keep getting the following error

I?ve searched the Forum on vBulletin.org, but can?t find any replies to similar problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

vBSSO works locally, could you please take a look at your web server logs. If vBSSO logs are empty it means the error should be captured and by web server log. Secondly you should ensure [http://testsite.local/vbsso/1.0] is accessible by your vBulletin forum, (PHP Curl extension should be turned on). Hope this would help you.

Thanks for getting back to me xeagle.

Curl is enabled on my local set up and still no luck.

I have got an error log, and pasted it below.

I don't know if it helps, but when I paste the platform address from Drupal 7 in my browser I am getting this.

{"product":6,"version":"7.26","plugin_version":"1.0.1"}

And the platform address from vBulletin is giving me this.

{"product":1,"version":"4.2.2","plugin_version":"1.4.12"}

Would be really good to get this resolved, as the Forum is a big part of my site, and though it's not the end of the world, I know it would upset a few people if I have to tell them they have to log in to the site and Forum separately.

It says "name lookup timed out" error, it means that your host "testsite.local" is unresolvable. You should map your host in /etc/hosts file in case of Linux or c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts in case of Windows.

Thanks for getting back to me again xeagle.

testsite.local is mapped to my windows hosts file, and I stuck it in my Linux hosts file too, and I'm still getting the same error.

Just doesn't seem to want to connect my platforms.

Thanks for getting back to me again xeagle.

testsite.local is mapped to my windows hosts file, and I stuck it in my Linux hosts file too, and I'm still getting the same error.

Just doesn't seem to want to connect my platforms.

Wouldn't it to be easy to install this on any shared hosting and check it out? There is another error related to your curl connection and makes sense to install on working hosting instead of trying to troubleshoot issues on localhost... Why wouldn't be reasonable to rename your host to "localhost" and run everything on "localhost"?

I have tried this on my VPS but still seemed to have trouble connecting.

I will give it a try again later in the week xeagle and get back to you. Thanks for your help so far.

Hey there! I'm wondering when or if you guys will be supporting vB 5 Connect with this modification? Thanks!

Kindly bumping this since I've gotten no response yet and I'm working on a time-sensitive project that could use this in vb5 :)

Unfortunately we don't expect any supportive release for vBulletin 5 in February and in March 2014. Please keep in mind this information.

Hi all,

I'm currently using the vBSSO plugin on a production website. Although the plugin is functioning perfectly and as-expected, we are admittedly having some issues with logging into accounts.

Here is what they sent me:
When I try to log in, It'll bring me to the "Thanks for logging in" page, but I'd still be logged out after being redirected. Once I do this a number of times, I'll get:

VBULLETIN MESSAGE

The page that you requested can not be displayed because a temporary error has occurred. This can happen when your session has expired due to inactivity, or if you've recently signed in to the forums. Please access the home page and try again.

And then I'll be logged in. It's pretty strange.

Note that I have customized the message so the above error message, when default, is the "has not satisfied the single sign-on requirements" error.

We've also had issues of this nature between vBulletin and WordPress when the email addresses of existing accounts vs. forum accounts are not the same, causing a user that would normally have WordPress access to receive the above error message, however I have done my best to resolve those issues with minimal interference.

Would it be possible to shed some light on why my users would have issues logging into their accounts normally, through vBulletin? I would greatly appreciate it!

It is wrong path:
/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/wordpress/wp-config.php/wp-settings.php
Look at "wp-config.php", line 90. It should be like this:
require_once(ABSPATH . 'wp-settings.php');
