Question here: When i try to "Run Generator" for the first time, i'm getting tons of error, all looking something like this:
Warning: fopen(D:\Hosting\3077032\html\forum\vbseo_sitemap/data/progress.dat) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in D:\Hosting\3077032\html\forum\vbseo_sitemap\vbseo_ sitemap_functions.php on line 1458
Any ideas?
PHP doesn't have write permissions on the sitemap folder.

should I erase old sitemap files and switch the file names to the new ones on the webmaster tools panel (google)?
Thanks!

by the way, according to the log, there are less showthread urls then I had with the old sitemap generator.
had -
Date 2011-02-05 02:00
Processing time 195.24 s
Total URLs 633,246 (+467)
Forumdisplay URLs 18,137 (+19)
Showthread URLs 609,265 (+445)
now -
Processing time 345.07 s
Total URLs 617,310 (+2)
Forumdisplay URLs 18,146 (-)
Showthread URLs 609,617
I've tried running it from the url and then terminated it and run it from Shell.
by the way, in the setting I've configured it to "stamp" showthread urls Change Frequency to "daily" and as you can see the urls are "stamped" as yearly.

I've installed as noted. I've edited and added a password.
When I go to http://www.mysite.com/forums/vbseo_sitemap/ I get a "The requested URL /forums/vbseo_sitemap/ was not found on this server"
I'm not exactly sure where I went wrong, but the vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemap is working on my ACP. I just can't log in.
Thanks
Also- I'm not exactly sure if I had a .htaccess file previously. I've never uploaded one so I'm assuming that I don't. If I did however, could this be the reason I'm getting this error?
Thanks!!

if you uploaded the ht file as is and your vb is not in the root folder yea, maybe
and since your showing it installed in forums/ probably
When you say I uploaded as is, what do you mean? I edited it to make it read like this: RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ http://www.mysite.com/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
I've Chmod 777 the data folder to my root
I also moved my vb folder from my public_html to the root directory.
I have it set to VBSEO installed: No
When I moved my VB folder to the root directory my site would no longer load. So I just moved it back and now it works fine. Could you clarify what you mean by that?
Also, what do you mean that I'm showing it installed in the forum?
Thanks!!!

htaccess is not required to get to vbseo_sitemap, just to load sitemap_index.xml.gz. Frankly it sounds like you uploaded the entire thing in the wrong place or uploaded the 'upload' fodler with it for some reason.

sitemap only includes public (guest) urls. If your site is locked down, it will never get indexed.
what is this part for
Addon Generator Modules
Set the addon module names here, one name per line. The modules files are located in vbseo_sitemap/addons/ folder.
it's for 'add ons' :) ie, you can make a tool for your gallery, or whatever else you run to add to the sitemap. Chances are, you can leave this blank.
same problem ?
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 73 bytes) in /home/users/public_html/vbseo_sitemap/index.php on line 218
You need to increase your php.ini memory_limit setting and restart your webserver. 32M is bare minimum. 64 recommended.

This is incorrect. Re-upload the default htaccess file to your forum root. No changes are needed to the file itself.
I've Chmod 777 the data folder to my root
this doesn't even make sense....

And not vbseo_sitemap/data/sitemap_index.xml.gz
So honestly, this make it more SEO friendly. :)
The htacces file does this, and always has since day 1 of the mod released, as it is required by google/etc to have the sitemap file load from the base directory, but making your public_html directory writable is just, well, dumb. So, we put it in its own data folder and use mod_rewrite to make it appear to be in the site or forum root depending on where you installed your board.
ha i got it so im deleting all the crap above
went with /vbseo_sitemap/sitemap_index.xml.gz
Which is incorrect.
It should load from
site.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz
or
site.com/forum/sitemap_index.xml.gz
depending on where you installed your board.
vbseo_sitemap/ should never appear in the url of the sitemap itself, just the admin interface.

Why is my runtime so high? You can also see it has stopped running daily, I would assume this is because it's taking 10 days to complete, this can't be normal, surely?
This means it's timing out. It picks up where it left off the last time it ran. So, your server needs 10x the rwesources to complete it.
You can remove sections like the archive/member pages/ and other "B" pages to make it run faster, or improve your servers memory_limit in php.ini and/or wait_timeout in my.cnf settings

The Sitemap tool creates a sitemap. It is not a pick and chose pages tool.
What you want, can't be done, and is a waste of time to even consider. If you want it all on 1 page, set your vb pagination settings to 9999999999999999999 posts per page.

Nothing... that's the admin interface. Login. It will show you the url to your sitemap in the top right.
set your password in vboptions -> vbseo sitemap options
Are these files suppose to be all in the root forum folder or actually in an "upload" folder branched off it?
Upload ALL the files and folders within the 'upload' folder to your forum root folder.
just like vb comes with an upload folder, docs folder, etc, you don't actually upload the upload folder, bur the CONTENTS OF the upload folder to your site.
Open it up, you will see some folders that match your vb install. Those should merge. (includes -> includes, etc).
CHMOD 777 the 'forum-root/vbseo_sitemap/data/' folder
This is where the files are stored at run and this area needs to be writable, 777, so it can write to this area.
Why does this take so long to complete a sitemap? I have uninstalled and re-installed but it makes no difference, look at the amount of time it takes to generate a sitemap.

you have too much stuff, not enough processing power, or a combination there of.
trim some sections off (members, archive, showpost, other useless pages)
increase wait_timeout, memory_limit
run it manually after tweaking settings to make sure it is able to complete. A db error will likely show in source.
This works on any webserver. Only different is the 'htaccess' rules on some software, but not lightspeed.

Are your forums open for guests? sitemap only includes public threads. And if you're worried about search engine hits, you need to make your content public.
compatible with vb 4.1.2?
Don't see why not. I haven't upgraded yet, but there's nothing in the update list that says it will break it. Try it, view the sitemap, check webmaster tools to make sure they've accepted it correctly.

So I've installed this and reports are generating fine, as I see them in the Reports list. However I'm not seeing any bots download them in my downloads log tab.

Submit your sitemap to webmaster tools. Google.com/webmasters
Also, make sure your log file downloads.dat is writable (chmod 666) otherwise, nothing can record

I've started from scratch and reinstalled Vbseo. I've followed the steps exactly as listed.
I'm getting this error: Not Found
The requested URL /forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz was not found on this server.
I'm typing www.mysite.com/forums/sitemap_index.xml.gz and that's the error that I get.
I'm using Filezilla. When the directions say to install to the root directory, is the root directory listed as "remote site: / "??
I've attached a picture to where the .htaccess file is located. - also, when I open the .htaccess file that i uploaded to my server, the contents read:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
- is that all it's supposed to say?
I haven't uploaded any other .htaccess files, so there shouldn't be any others interfering with this one, should there?

Please tell me how to uninstall. I was actually going to purchase the software because I am having problems and posted to the VBSEO forums and got rejected because I did not purchase this mod. I don't understand this because it is here free and I was happy to pay. I need help uninstalling please. I no longer want this on my system because I can't get any help, I was accused of not paying, and I don't want to upgrade because I worry I won't get help then either.
Valerio

To uninstall just remove from the product manager on the adminCP then cancel the files that you install, if you want to know where they are and wich one are, just follow the upload folder as reference.
Then cancel also the string into the .htaccess.
vbseo does not support via ticket if you do not have a license.
To obtain the license you need to purchase vbseo.
If you wnat assistance you can post on the forum and wait that someone reply t your post.
I had a problem too before, but at the end i purchase the vbseo and I install vbseo and xml sitemap, until now seems to work smoothly.

Thank you very much. That's exactly what I needed. Do I delete htaccess too?
I did post on the forum and was swiftly told not to post and that they would persue legal action against me and the thread closed after just one post of mine in which I stated I needed help with the plug in and was willing to pay to upgrade as well. It doesn't sit well with me to say the least. Maybe they thought I was using someone elses license or a copy but I couldnt even post again to defend myself.
Valerio

No, if you have a customize htaccess you need to delete only the string that the instruction ask you to add, or use the default htaccess provided from vbulletin.
It seems strange, it does not make sense, can you please show us the post?

Sure, here is the post

So technically you ask assistance regarding a product that you do not have licence (as i understand) that is the reason about the reply.

Sorry for jumping the gun on you there. We get a ton of people using nulled versions asking for support and that is the only thing we can really do is shut them down and not support them. If they are using nulled vbseo, they are probably using nulled vb as well, which is why we send them here. .org requires you to verify your license status. We aren't a charity and need to eat/take care of our families too.
The vbseo.com forums are only for vbseo core customers. Any sitemap troubleshooting for non-vbseo customers should be posted HERE and we'll get to answer it when we can.
Full support for the sitemap is offered to our customers only on our forums/ticket areas. Non-customers will be pointed back to this thread for support.

If you're getting a 404 and
site.com/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=sitemap_index.xml.gz
loads directly, one of the following is happening:
1) the htaccess file/ rule isn't in place
2) the server doesn't support mod_rewrite
3) The server has AllowOverride set to off, there by disabling htaccess

1) the htaccess file/ rule isn't in place
the htaccess is in the root directory. also tested it with the original htacces from vbseo sitemap htaccess folder
2) the server doesn't support mod_rewrite
it is supported because other rewrite work also tested it with the testpage.html rewrite to google.com ...
3) The server has AllowOverride set to off, there by disabling htaccess
i dont know what that and how to enable. i can ask server manager to check it.

I'm not really sure what Cron is, but does that mean that it automatically regenerates the sitemap with NEW threads that have been posted since last manual generate? Hey guys, I'm new to the whole VBSEO so sorry for this NEWB question and have to clutter this thread with such a basic question but...
I have successfully uploaded this sitemap generator but the previous version one(i have 3.8.1 running).
1. Do i need to do something on my webmaster's control panel in google even if i have it checked for it to notify the SE's automatically? Right now it says i have no sitemaps in the google control panel even after the first scheduled sitemap was generated yesterday.
2. Do i leave all the generated sitemaps alone? Do i ever have to remove any of them for any reason?
Thanks guys, and thank you for the great add-on. Hoping to see a difference!

Does this need to be manually submitted to google through the webmaster tools? I installed it but google isn't showing any site maps... I manually added the sitemap and it works but not sure if it will update.
I don't know if it "needs" to be in WMT but it does help and the sitemap will update.
Once you have it in WMT you can than see what backlinks you have to the site, so it's good to have it regardless.

Ok, for anybody who is interested, I managed to hack apart the addon file vbseo_sm_downloads2.php to enable it to work with the vb4.x DownloadsII addon.
It should now add this sitemap to your existing one.
Happy days.

Also, there is a better file here:

Hi,
I have a problem with my forumdisplay links.
They look like http://www.elsf.net/forumdisplay.php?page=[number] instead of http://www.elsf.net/forumdisplay.php?f=[number]
I think there is a bug in the following section:
$url = $vbseo_vars['isvb4'] ?
fetch_seo_url('forum|nosession', $g_cache['forum'][$forum_id], ($page>1)?array('page'=>$page):array())
: 'forumdisplay.'.VBSEO_PHP_EXT.'?f='.$forum_id . ($page>1?'&page='.$page:'');
Probabbly problem with $g_cache.
How can i fix it?
Thanks.

vbseo will NOT pick up on any 'friendly' urls in use.
You should use this with vbseo, or with standard urls only.
If you're using any friendly service urls from vb4, you should use the vb4 built in tool.

yes, you should not run both.

I have no idea what you're trying to do here.
\ is an escape character, making "." a literal DOT and not a catch-all as in, say (.*) in a regular expression.
Bing has blocked non-us pings for some time. It's out of anyone's control but their own.

as advised before, you have 3 options, and need to consult with your host on this matter as it is the rewrite area that is not working on your server. Or, move to a provider that understands basic rewriting.

You should use this with vbseo, or with standard urls only.
This needs to be mentioned in the OP then. I guarantee most people running VB4 who do NOT have VBSEO installed will be running friendly URLs.

Hello MagicThemeParks,
Yes, there's a newer version of the script and it is the one available for download in the first post of this thread. You can see at the middle-center part of the add-on information that it says: 'Last Update: 05 Sep 2011'.
strudinox confirms that the issue has been resolved here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2242595&postcount=430

I have a other question.
In the first week that my site was online, about 3 years ago.
Google has located my admincp and modcp map, and also set this online then.
Is this now again possibel or?

Hello,
The built-in sitemap feature of vB must be disabled while using vBSEO Search Engine XML Sitemaps.
We need you to find out in your Webmaster Tools account what is the actual error message you get, so we can troubleshoot this. You can try heading over the sitemap that does show up with issues.

The only files that have been updated are: vbseo_sitemap_functions.php and md5_sums_crawlability_sitemap.php (this one because of the checksum).
We can't just add them as separate files, because new people downloading the package may get confused about what to download and how to install what they've downloaded.

Installed perfectly on VB 4.1.5...BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM...a BIG one at that!
When i click on VBSEO Sitemap reports in my ACP, the login screen appears that asks for the password, on entering the password, i get taken to my site homepage instead of the Sitemap reports page..
Also if i try www.mysite/vbseo_sitemap/ - same thing happens...the login screen appears that asks for the password, on entering the password, i get taken to my site homepage instead of the Sitemap reports page..
I have been researching for this for 4-5 hours now and nothing..
BTW
1. I have the .htaccess in place.
2. I use VBSEO
3. MODRewrites work fine for me
4. I use VB Suite 4.1.5
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Yahoo/Bing have terminated ping services. This is beyond our control.
If you're login isn't working, it sounds like a base slash is in correct. Check your vboptions/settings and make sure all settings have proper trailing slashes, or not, as required by vb.
