Yes it could be. It brought my site grinding to a halt and I had to upgrade to a new dedicated server.
There are some options to reduce load such as reducing the refresh, etc..., but in my case they had little effect.
On a new server though it's whizzing along and performing brilliantly.

Well we have a new server and the chatbox really has some page issues with IE. Only runs fine with Firefox. Would be nice if that could be fixed.

Great Mod. I have two issues.

1) I have the same issue as James. On my VBadvances CMPS Home, the module is there, but is just says "loading". The module works fine on any other page that I enable it on.

Idea For Next Update: I've noticed that the Messages Align to the Right of the Usernames at the Left, (a Column for Usernames and a Column for Chat Posts, I guess); For Very Large Usernames the Posts at the Right of the Usernames don't have Enough Width and all the Space between the Username (Shot Ones) and the End of the Larger Username gets Lost. :(

Could you Please Add an Option to Choose if Place the Message Right After the Usernames (and if the Message is Larger than 1 Line to Continue the Text right Below the Username), or if Aligning the Messages at the Right of the Larger Username, (which is the Current Way the Mod is Working)? :confused:

Increase the Time Between Refresh ("Messages auto-refresh interval in seconds" and "Active users auto-refresh interval in seconds"). This Options are Set by Default to 10 and 30 Seconds, so you can place a Bigger Value for them like 300 Seconds (5 minutes) or more, (as you Like, but Bigger to Reduce Unnecessary Server Requests).

There are 2 Options for Refresh Periods, set both to that Value and that will reduce a lot the Server Resources.

Also set it to Display only on index (THIS_SCRIPT Option).

Ok, so the template edit was easy, I moved the messages box to the top and put the text input box underneath, like a live messenger chat setup.

Only problem is, I can't seem to be able to modify the height of the text input box only. Mainly on the chatbox full page.

If I change the height option in the vb options, it changes both the height of the text input box and the height of the messages box.

Anyone have a solution for this?

Yes it is and yes you can.
Disable the plugin and see if your site is running faster again. I bet it will.

Thanks, Cyb. Great mod as usual. I have one question/problem though. We have moderators and up permitted to moderate the chatbox and would like to continue that if possible. But, we don't want moderators to be able to view IP addresses. We have IP viewing turned off for the moderator usergroup via the normal vb permissions, yet in the chatbox archive they can still view them. How can we change this?

Something anoying: when switched to the full version I can't get back to the main page or back to the small version. There is no link back, also not on the navbar of the forumpage!

I solved this problem with inserting an extra menubar with a link to the forum homepage.

When choosed for "ChatBox always collapsed by default" only the full version can be choosen from the popup list...

i dunno if this is a bug or not but i disabled this mod :( cuz some users flooded it with smiles how? they pass the message length limit i have it at 120 but some type more by getting the word they want or the smile code and copy it then they press ctrl+v and keep holding never let go so it keeps paste and while that they press send and then flood, i love this mod so much great mod i wish this problem can be solved cuz it lags my forum thank you Cybernetec ^-^

Solved the problem with syntax expression, mentioned before. Instead of date and time it showed [d-m H:i]

Did you install a language pack? Dutch maybe?

Changes I made:
Admin CP> Languages & Phrases> Language Manager>Edit settings (of your installed language pack)>

First I didn't change any setting and pressed 'save'.
I message showed up, with something like "Could not find locale 'nl_NL' on the server"
pressed "go back' and cleared all fields in the section "Date / Time Formatting", pressed "save".

E whola... problem solved.

To have ChatBox enabled on vBa CMPS:
1. Hack options - Add "adv_index" to "Show ChatBox on" setting field (values in this field should be separated by commas) > Save
2. vBa CMPS Default Settings - add "cybchatbox" to "Portal Output Global Variables" field (values in this field should be separated by carriage return) > Save
3. [Optional] Template "adv_portal" - add "$cybchatbox" to line where you want ChatBox to appear (for example below "$navbar") > Save

how can i allow a speacial usergroup to be able to view and use the chatbox if i disallow the usergroup "registered user" at the same time?

all users who should be able to use the chatbox are registered users in primary usergroup and members in additional usergroups. the registered users group is listed in "Usergroups NOT able to view".

I've been using this chatbox for sometime now..good stuff. I just noticed however that none of the actions taken in the chatbox are logged into the VB moderator log section. the chatbox is even an option in the list, but no logs to speak of.

I noticed it in 3.6.12 and verified it wasn't VB in 3.8.3 so it must be this application.

it's not a huge deal, but we had some things happen and wanted to see who did what and could not.

I have a problem with this application to Vb 3.8.3.
Everything works fine until you send a message with accented characters [characters: ąęśżźćńłó] (Polish language).

I changed the encoding tables to match (latin2_ci, latin2_genral_ci) html encoding (iso-8859-2) vb, without positive result.

I have a conflict with an other mod: Advanced BBCode Permissions 3.0 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=122942)

I disabled the advanced bbcode mod because it rapes the chatbox.

When this mod is enabled when you post a message in the shoutbox that contains bbcode suck as the newest entry is displayed as it should, but when you post a new message the older message is displayed between the bb code.

I really need the "Advanced BBCode Permissions 3.0" mod, does anyone have any clue how i can solve this?

btw, thanks for the latest version i really like it!

There is an issue where the tag are case sensitive
If you ban [ QUOTE ] people can use [ Quote ] etc...

Here is the solution to make it case insensitive:
Replace
$vbulletin->GPC['ccb_newmessage'] = str_replace($cybcb_bannedtagsf, '', $vbulletin->GPC['ccb_newmessage']);
With
$vbulletin->GPC['ccb_newmessage'] = str_ireplace($cybcb_bannedtagsf, '', $vbulletin->GPC['ccb_newmessage']);

There is no code to prune ChatBox. There is an option in Archive menu to do this.

In the date and time notation tables (vbulletin options>cyb chatbox) put a % before each item.

For example: %H:%M

One minor issue though: the chatbox doesn't register unread messages properly for some reason. I've posted my first message about 90 mins ago, posted about 50 more since and it still shows that first message as the 'first unread' one... I don't see any related cron jobs in the 'scheduled task manager' though so I'm wondering how this particular field is updated?

Do you mean a navbar link? Check the options for the mod (admincp > vbulletin options > cybchatbox). The very last option is "Automatically add link to ChatBox to NavBar". Maybe you have that ticked?

This is fantastic script, my community loves it, but I am having an issue I can't get around using current permission page.

I want all user-groups to be able to see the chat-box, but only my Gold/Silver paying members to be able to post messages.

Thus I went to permission page and set all user groups for read only access (except Gold and Silver).

But soon I've started getting private messages from Gold/Silver members, that they are unable to post into chat-room.

Then I've realized, that all my paying members are always in fact members of two groups, paying gold/silver group, but also regular members group.

Problem is, that Gold/Silver are sharing permissions (on a forum level) of both groups, primary paying group and also additional group of regular members:

There isn't an option in chat permission page to get around the situation like this, because it assumes, that a forum member is always a member of only one forum user-group.
(Please note, that for various plugin related reasons, I have to keep these gold/silver members also part of reg. membership)

Im having an issue with a new colour theme im creating and the chatbox.

The default blue text is circled in red at the bottom. But somehow without bbcode a user's default text colour is black. I dont have that listed as a choice, I noticed before when i was changing the colours around the text goes with whatever i set the "Alternating Color" to, which in this case is the lighter blue.

Why is the black showing up? How can i fixed that.

*Edit* I also noticed that if i used the new themes current default text color it showed up on my other theme. So this is confirmed to be an issue with the chatbox's default color. Basically whatever the theme default text color is for "Alternating Color" is what will display in the chatbox. Even though some users get their text changed to the color as you can see in my picture above. The user at the bottom's post is the light blue. He is NOT using the new theme. Yet another user above his text is black... Both users are using the default black selection on the default vbulletin theme. Yet some users color changes the way it should between the themes and others dont.

Also do you plan to update this mod any time soon as ive come across a few issues with it that may be easier for you to fix and somethings id love to see added in.

One is the hack really needs a function to turn the /me command off and/or a way to ban BBcode from the box entirely case sensitive as having users use white bbcode colour can be very frustrating.

Also there is no straight forward way of adding more smiles into the box that i can see?
Would love to put custom ones in.

The box also needs a Private messaging solution so members can freely talk amongst eachother or creation of separate chat rooms which can be controlled by admins via restricting access to said rooms from certain user groups.

The box also needs a ignore feature so users can ignore other members posts from viewing.

It needs the ability to filter words, mute users, kick users, have an MOTD... etc

Hi, I have somewhat busy forum with thousands of members and they love this script, but there is a feature they all request. They don't want little chatbox on each page (it takes too much space and also cpu resources), they're fine with a link to a separate new chat window, where full version of this chat opens.

The way this chat is integrated to our forum is through a navbar link, but this link is static and it doesn't show that someone is actually in the chatroom.

Is there a way to put something like a beating heart or changing the font color next to a chat link in navbar (or number of active chatters), when someone is in the chat room?

That way if you are cruising the forum and see a "sign of life" in the chat room you can check in and actually chat.

Most of my members have been to the chat room several times a day but they keep missing each other and chatroom is full of messages like: "hello, anyone there?".

Anyways, if navbar link had some way of number of chatters, such navbar signal would be immediately seen and I have to say, I have to agree with my members, that a feature like this would make this script tremendously more useful.

I have a really bizarre bug. I now started allowing guests to see the chatbox. Since doing this, a swarm of people will randomly view the chatbox. As in, thousands of people, all viewing at the same time, never refreshing, falling off the grid and coming back at the same time. The chatbox itself doesn't show them as there, just the vB who's online. All from different IP adressees resolving to different places. They don't actually do anything, either. Any idea?

Odd, guests are allowed to see all of our public boards but not post, same as the chatbox and the only 'guests' I see flocking in numbers simultaneously are a couple dozen search engine crawlers. Have you made any modifications to your 'Unregistered / Not Logged In' group? And do these unregistered users try to access pages they can't, hence them showing up on the same page?

Almost forgot... found a bit of a bug. vB's replacement variables work normally on the full chatbox and chatbox archive pages, but not in the chatbox bit on FORUMHOME. We use it as a tongue in cheek way to remove a couple of select offensive words, and currently it doesn't.

Additionally, you'll want to write a custom module wrapper. You can strip out most of the standard wrapper and use that. It's a little dirty, but if you want a movable module, that will work. I'm currently using that method on one of my sites.

I don't think you have to create the custom wrapper if you don't want to, or don't know how. I don't remember creating one myself. Just create a template module and put in the code provided.

Just wondering if it's just my forum, but pretty much all of my member who use IE8 have the chatbox crash on them every couple of minutes. This is solved by hitting refresh in the browser. No problems in any other browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera etc) but a LOT of people use IE8. Is this a general problem? Something that will be fixed?

It's really entirely dependent on your server's capabilities, your forum traffic and how well your forum runs to start.

I have it installed on 3.7.2 and only displaying the chatbox on the my vbadvanced home page. However, it just says 'loading' in the message area when viewing the site via IE8. But when I go to chatbox full, it works fine in IE8. Does anyone have a solution for this?

A sound every ten seconds (default refresh time) for as long as you have the page open (which can be *all* forum pages if configured so) will be bloody annoying.

After reading 79 pages, I'm wondering when it will be spelled out EXACTLY how to accomplish this:

To have ChatBox enabled on desired page:

The author has only responded to this once in 150 pages on both the 3.7 & 3.8 versions of the forum.

We installed Cyb's ChatBox earlier this month on a board with about 40-50 members. It's a fairly new board so I'm sure the search bots aren't crawling too much on it, but we do have a robots.txt in place that stops them from crawling stuff like the Chatbox.

After we added the Chatbox we've seen a jump in bandwidth usage from 60-100 MB up over 700 MB daily. This seems insanely excessive for something as simple as a ChatBox. The ChatBox is not viewable to guests so this is generated by members.

Anybody else experiencing huge bandwidth jumps like this? If so how did you solve it?

We're seeing usage from 400 - 600 MB on any given day with spikes over 700 MB on certain days. This site is pretty light on addons.

There seems to be two places that hits on the main line you said to look for. I changed one and it's still loading smilies. This causes lot of bandwidth usage as well.If anything other than the forum layout and the "not logged in" message loads for users that aren't logged in, perhaps the closing </if> ended up in the wrong place.

And you did replace 1, 10, 100 with the usergroups you want to block, right?

He commented that it may be a great idea, but it's a system resource hog implemented this way, even on a dual core processor dedicated server based environment. We see about 25-35 users tops at any given time and that's all. Too bad, I was really hoping to use this mod, as our members liked it. Anyone know of a Chat System for vBulletin (even a paid mod) that runs without sucking the life out of the server?

I have a conflict with an other mod: Advanced BBCode Permissions 3.0 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=122942)

I disabled the advanced bbcode mod because it rapes the chatbox.

When this mod is enabled when you post a message in the shoutbox that contains bbcode suck as the newest entry is displayed as it should, but when you post a new message the older message is displayed between the bb code.

I really need the "Advanced BBCode Permissions 3.0" mod, does anyone have any clue how i can solve this?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. What I'm trying to find is what is the final answer to solve the "Loading" problem that people were having. When logging in, the chatbox will continually say "Loading". I tried everything listed in these threads, but can't seem to find the answer.

Nice mod!
In installing this, first on a sandboxed version of our forum, I have been able to sucessfully install the product.
However, in trying to enable to moderation capability, I do not see the Ban User, etc sections in the Chat Archive drop down. I've included the relevant groups who can mod in the list of who can mod area in the Chat setup
Also, when I do a test with a test member, and then place that member in the banned list of chatters, he is still able to post in the chat.
Any ideas what may need to be done? Using, vB 3.7.4.

It doesn't work on 3.8 either. It just keeps saying "Loading".... However, after reading this thread https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=177552&page=49 which is post #722 posted in the 3.7 cybchatbox (this thread) section writting by lard007 at 23 Oct 2008 17:45 fixes the problem....

This is what I found with the 3.8.x version....
Goto Style Manager>your style> edit templates> double click on Cybernetec-templates
Edit the templates and before all misc.php? add the words $vboptions[bburl]/ so your will go from:
misc.php
to $
vboptions[bburl]/misc.php?

Does anyone else notice the chatbox archive attracting a very large number of bots?

I'm not sure what causes it, but I often have thousands of bots viewing my chatbox archive. Yesterday it was more than 7,000 showing up in the 'currently active users' section, which I have set to the default vB timeout of 15 minutes. I don't even know if they are all bots to tell you the truth.

The IPs are all over the place, from many different networks, and are scattered all over the world. Some IPs are for actual websites... so I imagine either the website or their servers are connecting/scanning my chatbox archive for some odd reason. Other IPs appear to be for legitimate ISP customers and still others I did notice appear to be spiders (but most that I checked did were not spiders).

The suspect IPs do not appear to be loading javascript since my javascript stats tracker doesn't report them in the visitor totals. I figure this means that they are all bots/spiders of some sort that do not read/load javascript.

This isn't a new thing, either. It's been going on for quite some time. Yesterday it got to the point of slowing down my server due to the 7000+ bots (of whatever) that were concurrently connected based on the vB 900 second timeout.

I just cleared my chatbox archive and will be seeing about locking it down so that only members can view it.

Anyhow, just wanted to see if other people using this mod are having similar issues...

I noticed a problem with this.

Users can delete their posts in the CB even with the option for them to not be able to turned off.

They go into the archive and edit their post by putting 3 spaces and hitting enter before hitting done.. and it will delete their post.

Is there some way to fix this.. or an option where I can turn off regular members from editing in the archive? etc?

I have issue, that about 1/2 of users have a problem with "Loading".

Chatbox is only on main page of forum (index). I tried to do these fixes:

2 Things:

1. It won't parse font color codes. IE If you change your font colour, the only thing you see is the bbcode for the colour, not the actual colour.

Question: How does one UNban a user?

I know to ban them I can just go to Chatbox Archive, select their name, drop down menu > ban.

But eventually that person's name is going to scroll back hundreds of pages.

So how do I unban them in the future?

Excellent plugin. Working great. The only problems is when you have the Advanced BBCode Permissions plugin installed, ChatBox wont allow custom text formatting and will show the code instead of displaying the text format and color.

I think some people have posted this issue here before but I haven't found a solution except to disable the Advanced BBCode Permissions plugin.
