I am on a dedicated server with only vb running. I love the chat box and need to fix it so I can continue using it. I don't know if I should upgrade, I saw a lot of people with security token issues, I would not want to break it...

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks a lot for your work.

The security token issue is related to vB 3.7.1 and up. Most mods that used forms had to be updated to account for the security token issue.

I am having difficulty with the chatbox in that it loses posts being made. Users enter their text, click submit and then nothing. It's as if the chatbox freezes my whole forum.

A lot of the time it freezes up my board, resulting in me having to open a new window and access the site again.

Has anyone had the same problem, or have suggestions?

I have a small but strange problem. The chat works great but when I use ChatBox Full in a own page the footer border get misplaced --> see picture

I installed it too right after Heldenverband mentioned that he/she had no problems with it.

It seems to be working on my forum just fine without a hitch. I know I am using IE 7 and it isn't freezing on this end. No reports from other members yet either if that helps.

Iam thinking it could have problems because of different service packs if they are using XP. Service pack 3 stinks, and I removed it from my PC. Seems like it froze up my PC everytime I turned around.

Perhaps it's a server issue, or what IE version people are using.

get rid of the "Refreshing Messages" that keeps flashing up, its really is annoying

also the ability to export the chat archive to excel would be great or to a form post whichever is the easiest, the reason being to enable mods to save suspicious or questionable content for later review by Admin.

if the function was available to save to "historical table" which you could limit in days and hours that would be even better but I guess more work?

I'm looking for a private moderators only chat add-on, but one which is like a chat room. Whenever a moderator writes something it should pop out to every other moderator, that is online and vice versa. It is needed for better collaboration between moderators so everyone agrees with a certain course of action being chosen. It would be advantageous to have the option to sign in the chat, to show that they are available as moderators. Maybe something like the one in facebook, but for more than 2 persons. I believe permissions will be based on usergroups, so having the same one for regular users will be good too.

I looked through the available ones, but the choice is big and I'm probably not even getting the full list with the search term "chat"

You'd probably have to go with MCG ChatBox Evo for that functionality. It's somewhat harder to install, and doesn't always jibe with everyone's forum, such as mine, but it's the only one I know of that does that. However, you can set this one to only show to certain user groups if your not intending it to be a system that the whole forum uses.

For people who want permissions for who is allowed to view and not view the chatbox full and the chat box archives can use the following code that I created. It will also stop them from searching the chatbox(as searching the chat box requires access to the archives. A Detailed explanation is giving at the end.

The code is generic and adding user groups can be used if you wish to add them.

1 File edit is required and 1 template edit is required(with 3 sub edits).

$names contain the array of the user id's. Simply add in a userid for this script to effect those people. seperate each value with a comma

If for some reason you declare a new $urlname you will need to add it to that OR conditional, and make sure to add an additional double pipe || for that new declared variable.

And in the end, if all is true, the user will be redirected to their previous history. If you decide to change this to Header("Location: ......."); make sure the Output buffering is set to on. And set to flush the output when it is finished.

This is just a minor modification, as other modifications can include, A time period in which certain age groups can not view the chat box (this is used after watershed times, because of minors that maybe on that could view adult context within the chats.

Did you do any changed with the THIS_SCRIPT setting in the Admin CP on the forum that's displaying it on every page? I haven't checked to see if this uses a template hook to display, but it also may be worth checking to see if both your site's navbar or headers have the same template hooks in use.

Thanks for the chatbox. All my friends of forum adore. We love it.

I would like to know if it's possible to add a ring when someone chat (post a message in the chatbox)...........because it's not easy to know when someone is chatting at the forum home while we browse others forums. We miss each other to talk sometimes. What a pity!

Another question: Can I put another color for the area(background) where I write the message. Becasue the background of my forum is white and the background of the chatbox is white too........some new poster take much time to find where they can write. (It's true! :p )

I only can see it when I put it in English language.

Somebody could say to me that I must change and where to be able to cause that it leaves the hour to me in chatbox instead of [H: i]

I've not really researched it that in depth, but I believe it really all comes down to bandwidth. And that varies so much from host to host and what they want to price for it. I personally am on shared hosting, but my bandwidth is unlimited, so they time chat takes to load isn't really noticeable and I have NO_SCRIPT blanked out.

After looking at this more closely, I'd say the best thing to do is to just set Position on page to Disable in the mod's options. Then put the $cybchatbox variable in the style you actually want the ChatBox to show.

If somebody writes, por example, too many ........ or --------- or letters, it gets bigger and bigger...

I'd like to know if there's anyway to make those things to get cut in some point so that the chat box remains always the same size.

This mode went in in minutes on the test forum basically did nothing but load the product and set a few options and good to go - great work.

I did notice that the '::refreshing messages' does open up the info area which causes the overall form to open and close by one line - has anyone looked at this its only a minor issue which does not distract from this awesome mod?

The date/time displays as the format itself like m-d H:i, when using any other language other English in a board.

This is happening even in Advanced forum stats.

The problem does solve using % as a prefix, but then the English language has to suffer as it displays % symbol.

Can we get a patch for the problem please.

In your admin control panel Cyb Chat

Set the position of the chat box to "disable" then farther down, check "place link in navi bar"

That will set your box to another page using the link on your navi bar or you can also choose to link from a drop down menu.

"/me" is the only one. User banning/message deletion is done via message menus in ChatBox Archive. There is no way that regular user can use this functions.

Great mod - very very simple, and functional. Great job brother. I'd love the ability to make chat 'private' between a few members, but beyond that, love it.

For some odd reason users disappeared!... from Currently Active Users and become as off line users but they are still online, and they can participate in chat box...

Also if no body write something in the chatbox after 20-25 minutes it "stuck" for all the users which are on line and it get start again only if a NEW user login and write something...

It mainly depends on your servers capabilities. Some people are running small forums with little activity and tremendous slowdown, and some are running large boards with little or no noticeable effect. You'll only really be able to tell if you test it yourself under your forums unique circumstances.

Just installed and it looks good. Better feature set than MGC shoutbox. The only thing I miss is the ability to edit shouts by double clicking on them. Oh, and I may have also noticed a slowdown in my forum... but I'm not sure about that yet. I'll know after using it for a while longer.

I have followed the directions to the tee, when it comes to adding this to vbadvanced...and cannot find the answer within this thread.

I have vbadvanced installed outside of the forums directory and the "ChatBox Full" link appears in both navbars of my forum skins, but not in the navbar of vbadvanced.

Can anyone recommend an answer to this problem?

I downloaded and installed this mod...and came a cross a few problems with it...just like everyone else..."bugs"...that have still not been addressed.

If you have this chatbox unavailable to guests...and they click the link in the navbar...they're taken to smiley descriptions. Like I said, "bug" and it still hasn't been addressed.

I stated I installed this mod...and uninstalled it due to the fact there are several bugs that haven't been addressed. I'm entitled to my opinion and I've expressed it...and have subsequently uninstalled this mod.

Now why don't you go back through the 50+ pages of questions and reply to those who have uninstalled this mod for the same reasons...with the same sort of reply you have given me.

Cybernetic has some great mods...that's a gimme. I have another of his mods installed with no complaints. I'm not knocking the coder...just the lack of support for the mod...

Well, technically I didn't interrupt your request for support, since you had already untinsalled the modification and no longer needed it. I was responding to your comment and pointing out something that too many folks on this site seem to be misinformed on.

The excuse is, really, that they need none. There's no expectation that support is supposed to come in any expected time frame. Indeed, it is Christmas, and a fair number of authors on the site are likely not even going to be home for the next week or until the new year. Support is, and always has been at the author's discretion/convenience. This stuff isn't exactly putting food on their table.

The chat seems to lock up my IE7 browser after using it for several minutes. I switch to FireFox and never have this problem.

I don't mean that the chat locks on loading... or something. It seems to lock my browser completely! I can close it, delete cookies and temp internet files and bring it back up, and it is okay again for awhile.

This only happens when I am in chat for some time.

Any solutions or suggestions?

Submit button is there, and it's standard html button. If some browser can not see it then it does not deserve to be called a web browser. Make screenshot of ChatBox on your forums, I would like to see what problem you have.

I have had your chatbox installed for a few weeks now and think it's excellent, thank you.

I am installing a custom style with a sidebar and the chatbox seems to be pushing the sidebar outwith the borders of the forum (see pics). I have the chatbox displayed on forumhome only so you can see that the sidebar is displayed fine on forumdisplay.

Is there anything you can do with the code to correct this please?

I tried changing the width of the chatbox to 50% and it does half the width of the chatbox but the sidebar is still pushed out.

Have you tried just following the instructions in the Admin CP?


Show ChatBox on (comma separated THIS_SCRIPT locations)
Blank to show on all pages (not recommended because of server load)

Anyway, today I try to add it on vBa cmps frontpage. I did exactly as instructed, the chatbox is there below navbar, but it only shows message "Loading...".

The chatbox "inside" the forum is ok. But the one shows in vBa cmps frontpage keeps "loading...".

You can export old table, then edit it to adjust column names for the new table, then import messages.

I can do this for you if you wish.

Can I also be a pain and ask for a little help with the above please? I exported vB_shout and changed the VALUES to `id`, `userid`, `userip`, etc. Is this correct?

If I then import vB_shout into vB-cyb_chatbox I'm getting #1062 - Duplicate entry '3' for key 1 :confused:

Can you add extra channels in the next version?? Have main chat, and then extra admin defined channels for users to use, based on usergroups?? I had to switch over to MCG EVO due to that option, but if you did that, I would drop EVO in a heartbeat :D

You must not have it enabled for guests, as I don't see anyting.

In any event, the vBa option is just to enable the ChatBox on that page. It's doesn't integrate it into vBa or turn it into a module or anything like that. It just enables it on a vBa page the same way it would be enabled on any other page.

I had to uninstall this shoutbox, it absolutely hosed my server. It's a dedicated and it ran my load averages as high as 29.67

Cybernetic, can you get it work on a CMPS live vBa?
Its really annoying that it shows the Leading Mesage, and i tried to include some more variables of the Chatbox, but still no success...
btw: i dont have vBa and vB ion the same directory, that causes the Problem :S

PS: never mind, fixed it this way:

go to styles&templates>edit **your style** >open template "cyb_chatbox"

replace all misc.php with $vboptions[bburl]/misc.php?

use search function you will need it theres like 25 edits.

edit also

cyb_chatbox_archive_bit
cyb_chatbox_topchatters_bit

your box will display however new_post.gif will show a red cross thats because the settings in admincp under chatbox point to

images/statusicon/post_new.gif
images/statusicon/post_old.gif

changing the path will stop showing them in the forums, to solve that just make an image folder wherever you cmps_index.php file is or in the folder where your cmps_index file is or whatever you named that file.

note:with this fix it will also enable any page now where u add $cybchatbox
arcade.php, all_albums.php, albums.php etc....
note2: for custom pages still need to add the custom page name in "chatbox on"

Great Mod. I have two issues.

1) I have the same issue as James. On my VBadvances CMPS Home, the module is there, but is just says "loading". The module works fine on any other page that I enable it on.

2) the background color of the Message Text entry box is same as foreground, only on one of my sites. Where are the handles to change the colors.

BUG:
When you enable reversed order, it first shows in normal order, then on the first auto update it jumps to revered order.

Would you happen to have a codefix for this? I've made some mods to the layout of the chatbox and don't really want to have to reinstall.

This mod works good in posts and replies but not in the chat box. If I change the order or anything with the smilies, it changes in the chat. When an individual member changes what they see it doesn't change anything in chat. Seems to me like the chat is just searching in a different area. Can this be set up so the 2 work together?

Try deleting it and reinstalling the 3.8 verison, but, it still sounds like you missed one.

To have ChatBox enabled on desired page:
1. THIS_SCRIPT must be defined in php file (by default all important vBulletin files has this)
2. Hack options - You must add THIS_SCRIPT value for target page to "Show ChatBox on" setting field
3. Main template called on target page must contain "$cybchatbox" variable

To have ChatBox enabled on vBa CMPS:
1. Hack options - Add "adv_index" to "Show ChatBox on" setting field (values in this field should be separated by commas) > Save
2. vBa CMPS Default Settings - add "cybchatbox" to "Portal Output Global Variables" field (values in this field should be separated by carriage return) > Save
3. [Optional] Template "adv_portal" - add "$cybchatbox" to line where you want ChatBox to appear (for example below "$navbar") > Save

It worked and if you're interested, my hack is based on his 2.3 hack so you can just import the XML and if you don't like it import his original back (make sure you select overwrite each time)

So this is what I changed/added:

* The message input area height size option is added to the CP options
* Status message is moved to the right of the Submit button
* Archive can now be reordered from old to new and the option is added to CP too

i am having the same problem with this too, it is hard to modify this mod to work with a dark theme, at least for my limited abilities.

Have you tried Phrase editor? I believe you will need to change cybcb_chatbox_full text, unless by changing text you mean changing appearance not the wording.

I have some questions on server load.

1. How many users online with full access to Cyb ChatBox before it affects the server load to a noticable amount?

2. Will allowing some groups to "view", but not post, affect the server load? Or is better to not allow viewing only at all?

3. Will having Chat set to "always collapsed" help decrease server load?

Installed on 3.8.1 and looks nice. It's setup to only display on the main forum page, so index.php.

But the forums load very very slow, on forumhome as well as subforums (where it is not displaying). This occures with all 3 IE versions. I don't know what's causing it. The page itself loads normal, but you can't scroll or reply it keeps hanging at the "gradient.gif" or something which is loaded after that gif, or it looks that way in the statusbar. This takes up to 15-20 seconds and then all is loaded and you can scroll.
When using Firefox, there is no slowdown at all. Forums load as fast as normal.

When I disable this mod, all IE versions work as fast as Firefox again.
What is causing this strange behaviour?

1. I have my Reverse message order (newest at bottom) set to "yes",
and it works as long as a member does not collapse it on their own.

But if they do collapse it, then when they re-open it again,
it is reverts to the default of new post on top.
If... they refresh their browser,
then it changes back to my setting of new post at bottom.

Confusing to members.

Also...

2. If I have it set to always collapsed,
it then switches back to default with the newest post at the top,
and refreshing their browser does not change it to my settings at all.
It remains with new post at the top regardless of my settings.

Confusing to me. LOL

Any fix or changes I can make to avoid this?

Another question in addition to my collasping question here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1730633&postcount=986).

I've discovered that if I have a primary usergroup disallowed to view/use chat, but give them an additional usergroup that does have access to chat, they still can't use it. As long as they are in the primary group that does not allow it.

vB states that the user group with the access enabled will take precendent over the primary. But that does not happen with the chat box.

Is there a way to fix this?

I installed on 3.7.4 PL1 . Works fine. But very very slow with firefox3 and internet explorer 7.

Hi all. If you have CSRF problem on this hack; try this.

Download and backup misc.php,

search this; define('CSRF_PROTECTION', true);

and change it define('CSRF_PROTECTION', false);

that's all. I hope this way to help you.
