TfSEO 2.1

TfSEO is a powerful and free url rewrite for the vBulletin system: it rewrite forum, thread and post urls.
For me it's very hard to explain well all the feature of this plugin, soo the best way is test it.

How much does it weight on the server?

I have tested on my home server:TfSEO enabled, heavy:

Hi,

This is a nice mod and I'm testing it, but as user already said, you're "eating" letters with accents and in my native Language we have lots.

You should add a function to replace these chars instead of using unhtmlspecialchars.

In a post with the word "cora??o" (Heart in Portuguese) in it's Title is replaced with "cora-o" that Google understand as "Cor?o", the Sacred book of Islam!

I'm testing with a function that I found in a Google search:

function remove_accents($string){
return strtr($string,
"?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????@",
"YuAAAAAAACEEEEIIIIDNOOOOOOUUUUYsaaaaaaaceeeeiiiion oooooouuuuyyEa");
}

Nice mod by the way, waiting for vBa!
Keep up with the good work.

PS: Plugin now use both your "function remove_accents" and unhtmlspecialchars, to be sure :)

Question:

Lets suposse i install this.. ? does this affect all the link to the threads that look like this ?:

http://www.xxmysite.com/forum/showthread.php=12421352 ... couse a lot of the users links their threads in the signatures and stuff, and i dont want them to change all the links in the forum.

superjeff
03-23-2008, 08:16 AM
Old links will automatic redirect to the new one:

You can see, to example im my forum:
http://www.techforum.it/showthread.php?t=858 (http://www.techforum.it/showthread.php?t=858) is automatic redirect (with a 301) to
http://www.techforum.it/f47/tfseo-un...bulletin-t858/ (http://www.techforum.it/f47/tfseo-un...bulletin-t858/)

Soo no problem!

Dude... i think it would be better if you'd code it in English... so it would be easier for other users to customize or improve it. Cuz not that many of us know italian.

superjeff

Erm... how about this URL?
http://www.techforum.it/f46/connettere-pi-249-computer-ad-internet-con-un-t780/

Compare the title of the thread and the rewrited URL, it seems to be slightly different :S

jack bro
03-23-2008, 05:05 PM
I think it is because it only puts the first few words from the title of the thread into the URL so if you have a thread which is titled with 50 words, the URL won't be massive.

Jack.

nfn
03-23-2008, 06:03 PM
I think is not using the last version because he is "eating" accents. You can define the number of words in the url.
Does Google penalize long urls?

It is true. I don't have much time, and the link structure in my forum is a bit different.
Does Google penalize long urls?
Usually, no. But have you ever see a very long url in a Google's serp? It's very bad. Google eat the url and write something like "yoursite.com/...". I think this is bad to see, and you could be penalize from the user that "jamp" your result.

Hi,

The Previous/Next links do not seem to work. Are you going to release a plugin for vbadvanced cmps? Many users would find it useful.

Thanks for the mod, superjeff.

jscieza
03-24-2008, 04:25 AM
I think that will be useful if you add an option to filter some words that are irrelevant for SEO purposes, I mean short words that Google and other search engines don't have in account when you make a search, words like: "to", "the", "of", and so on.

AFAIK these type of words aren't relevant. Is this really true?

And just in case that you add this option... it will have as a implicance a higher CPU load?

Thank you! :)

Hi,

Thanks for the mod, superjeff.
The Previous/Next don't work because they have the "nofollow" attribute and a rewite of its will add two query every time you display a thread! The plugin for vbadvanced cmps is incoming.

I would suggest anyone holds off from this. Will this coder support this in the next version? If not, you're going have to uninstall -- meaning you lose ranking and indexed pages as they will have to be re-indexed.

Thank you for your reply, superjeff.

I have three suggestions :)

When you have chance please upgrade your plugin in your live demo forum so visitors of this plugin will see it in action with the fixes that you're including with the new releases.
It would be nice if you put a change log of your mod.
How already some members said you, if possible make an effort to code your mod in english. vBulletin.org's hack programmers speak english and many of they don't understand italian... so it will be a bit hard for you to get help in case of problems where you need a hand.I like this mod. Just waiting for the requested option (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1473032&postcount=22) and I will install it! Hope it will not take much time to be implemented :up:

If this plugin will dead tomorrow, you can buy a license of NuSEO or VbSEO ad customize the url-rewrite setting. You will not lose any serp. (or you can set by .htaccess a 301 rewite to standarts urls)

But, are users prepared to buy vBSEO if you stopped support this? Very unlikely!

When you have thousands of urls indexed in the SE's, you're going want to reach a support person fast incase there is a problem, where as you will with vBSEO as there is a lot of members of staff. Where as here, there is only you and there is no guarantee you will support this for a long time to come, very unlikely.

I will be watching this thread carefully. I love the idea, I truly do. So many people have introduced similar mods, that usually end up backfiring.

At present, I do not feel comfortable with installing this hack just yet. I'd like to wait for more features, and a possible English coding. From what I can tell, you're on the right path- just need a few more goodies and what not, and this should be a wonderful hack. Good luck, and I look forward to another release!

Add this to your config.php file:
$ips = array('123.123.123.123');
$config['Misc']['debug'] = (in_array($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'], $ips) ? true : false);
And replace 123.123.123.123 with your ip. Now you can see the loads time.

Do you get a 500 server error? Or it simply don't rewrite the urls? It should work without problem..

It is thinked to don't weight on the server. Basically, it don't add query. But, ther is a query if you rewite tags.php (with the file modification), and another in homepage if you choose it in the options.

This looks very nice already. However is there any chance to change the forum name from 'f2' to the real forum name? Some thing like .../main_forum_f2/...?

Then it would be perfect! :)

You always say you will do this when your mod becomes popular .. so .. eh .. come stai? .. lol .. eh .. making your mod doing rewrite the forumname could make your mod more popular, because it's missing in your actual version .. :)

Ok, i have fixed it, but it is soo easy that i will not relase a new relase only for this.
You must only replace all the code in the plugin called "Query for last page in forumhome" with this:

if (!empty($forum['lastpostinfo']) AND $forum['lastpostinfo'] != $vbphrase['private'] AND $forum['lastpostinfo'] != $vbphrase['never'] AND $forum['lastpostinfo'] != '-' AND $vbulletin->options['tfseo_attivo'] AND $vbulletin->options['tfseo_riscrivi'] AND $vbulletin->options['tfseo_page_index'])
{
$tfseo_tot_post = $vbulletin->db->query_read_slave("
SELECT thread.replycount
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread AS thread
WHERE threadid = '$lastpostinfo[lastthreadid]'
");
$a = mysql_fetch_assoc($tfseo_tot_post);
$a = implode($a);
$a = $a / $vbulletin->options['maxposts'];
$a = floor($a);
if ($a > 0)
{
$tfseo_total_page = $a+1;
$tfseo_lastpage = $vbulletin->options['tfseo_pagina'] . $tfseo_total_page . ".html";
}
}

Hi superjeff,

I have just installed TfSEO in my forums a few days back and it's working fine :)

But there are some issues that I have noticed:

Links from Who's online aren't being rewrited
RSS feed links aren't being rewrited (yes, I have edited all files as your readme indicates)
Previous/Next Thread links aren't working (it appears that it's a know bug)

I'm using vBulletin 3.7.0 RC1. When you have time please take a look at this issues. Hope you are fine with your studies, good luck in your exams!

Kind regards,

Jonathan.

I think i could fix it in the future, but i don't know how
This is very strange! I will attack my external.php, i have done it a lot of time ago (3.6.x) and it works well with the 3.7 too.
A rewrite of this will add a lot of queryes, and it have by default a "nofollow" tag. Vbseo don't rewrite it, but the url works in my forum.

But you go to the school :)

1. Glad to hear.
2. It's "attach" not "attacco" :D. Also... I suggest you don't attach your own vBulletin files, there are some reasons but the most important is that it's appears to don't be allowed by the vBulletin.org forums.
3. Erm... NO, vbSEO REWRITES links in the Who's online page. I think that if we have allowed guests (and also, spiders) to see our Who's online page, we will have serious issues because Google my think that there are duplicated content. Please tell me if I'm wrong.

You should update soon... :)

And you... because you're running vBulletin 3.7.0 Beta 3 hehe. Hey! this could be probably the reason because external.php works for you and not for me. Try to upgrade to the latest RC and edit external.php as your readme.txt file indicates... then probably you will have the same issue that I'm passing :(

Thank you! :)

The RSS feed are very important, i try to fix it now. The file that i have upload has my customer number, i have deleted it for it. But it is my "online" file, ad i'm not using 3.7 beta 3, but 3.7 RC 4. Try to press F5. In other word, upload it on your site, it will work :)
This point was about the next/previuvus link, not for the online. Vbseo don't rewrite this, look here (http://www.giorgiotave.it/forum/consigli-seo-e-penalizzazioni/76787-penalizzazione-per-la-seconda-volta.html). Plus, your online.php file is not show to the guests and bots.There are no "duplicate content" problem, because the plugin use a 301 redirect for the wrong urls.
Now i go to work on the plugin..

Are you not able to fix the cron image issue? I think it could have a bad effect for the scheduled tasks if it's not fixed...

I looked on your own forum and it doesn't appear you fixed it in the new release... For example, this thread: http://www.techforum.it/f53/problema-con-un-gioco-t1208/ makes a call to: http://www.techforum.it/f53/problema-con-un-gioco-t1208/cron.php?rand=191417, which doesn't exist. There is the same problem when viewing other pages that are using rewrite (forums).

Renaming .htaccess to htaccess_new the 500 server error should disappar.
You should try to edit the .htaccess file until it work.. have you ever tried to use another .htaccess? Plus, some hosting, don't accept it!

This was to "disable" the 500 error. If the server is your, take the line in the .htaccess and add it in the site apache site configuration file, something like the httpd.conf, in the virtual host.

Can you explain nicer this last?

I will fix it..
Let me try:

On ForumHome if I click "Go To Last Post" button on a thread with >1 page the url becomes something like: <Thread Name>/page2.html#postXXXXX and the link works correctly (taking me to the last post on whichever page is last)

However when I click New Posts and look at the URL for that same thread it appears as: <Thread Name>/#postXXXXX which results in the first post on the first page being displayed.

So my question is how do I get the ForumHome URL's (which work) to appear on New Posts as well? I noticed that the ForumHome links changed when I enabled ForumHome in the TfSEO options in AdminCP so I was wondering if there's a way to make this work for New Posts? :)

I have disable that redirect because it could be problematic, rewriting the last post in the last page (example) in the first page. I will fix this too, first that i can. Temporaneally, you can edit the "301 Thread" plugin and delete AND empty($_REQUEST['p'])

UPDATED: VbAdvanced plugin now rewrite news urls!

Thank you :)

Maybe the next version can change the way forums are re-writen? So instead of f50 we have forum name 50.

Example:
Forum name is Announcements and forum ID is 3, it will re-write at example.com/announcements-3/

And maybe another thing. Instead of having the example.com/f#/topicname-####/ it can be example.com/f#/topicname-####.html and for pages it be example.com/f#/topicname-####-page-2.html?

These are good idea's in my opinion. Plus spiders would live to see forum names instead of f## because when you do site:example.com all you see is f## for urls.

I will add this in the next major relase, for it i will rewrite all the code!

It will have 3 options:
f##/##/
f##/threadname-##/
forumname-##/threadname-##/

Plus, you will allowed to modific the url structure how do you want, editing only one file.
Plus plus: the forumname-## will be indipendent from the forum name, with this, if you change it, you will not redirect thousands of threads

Hi Jeff... Reverting templates is not an option for me, and I cannot use mods[title] the way you have it. I editted the plugin like this:

$news['url'] = tfseo_url($news['title']);

And then in the template adv_portal_newsbits I use it like so:

$vboptions[bburl]/f$news[forumid]/$news[url]-$news[threadid]/

It works. But how can I do the same for the template adv_portal_newsbits_attach_thumb? Do I need another plugin?

You are right... but I have modified that template to something like this:

<a href="$vboptions[bburl]/showthread.php?$session[sessionurl]t=$news[threadid]"><img src="$vboptions[bburl]/attachment.php?$session[sessionurl]attachmentid=$attachment[attachmentid]&amp;stc=1&amp;thumb=1&amp;d=$attachment[thumbnail_dateline]" class="thumbnail" border="0" alt="" /></a>

So the thumbnail links to the thread.

But it is ok. I have removed the code from adv_portal_newsbits_attach_thumb and placed it directly in adv_portal_newsbits and I can now rewrite the URLS. So it is working for me how I want.

Thanks so much.
