EDIT: PROBLEM SOLVED...READ ME FILE HAD THE FIX!

My forumhome template is customized so that most of the "what's going on" stuff is at the bottom. The only thing at the top is "currently logged on users." Events, stats, etc, are at the bottom.

With the previous version, I put the $chatbox_forumhome variable in a table row right after upcoming events and the chat box would show up at the bottom with the admin settings set to Top for forum home (setting it to bottom doesn't work..u get nothing).

With 1.5, that isn't working. The chat box still shows at the top of my forums, above "currently active users." Setting it to bottom never works.

Display the Chatbox on some styles
It's possible that the chatbox doesn't appear because the automatic insertion in templates bases itself on certain variables which can any more not be present in these styles.

If you meet this problem, follow the stages :
Go on Plugin Manager on your admincp
Edit the plugin Affichage forumhome
Replace $search_text = '$forumhome_markread_script';
By $search_text = '$chatbox_forumhome';
Then, go in style manager and edit template FORUMHOME
Add $chatbox_forumhome above $footer

I was just in a hurry, all of these problems were easily remedied by following the instructions.(aside from having to use the backup for product-mgc_chatbox.xml).

One more question: Where do I change the color for the time/date stamp, it's almost the same color as my background?

then it work !

The only thing I can't get now is the switch to enable downloading of shouts. After the upgrade, the links are missing.

ON EDIT: OK, it's a per usergroup setting. Cool!

You mean that the shoutbox is not shown in the archive page ?

If yes : that's normal it is not supposed to.

Thanks for the update. My IE7 problem are fixed.
But a other problem. Some from the logged on users can't see the shoutbox.
But all rights at the usergroups are set correctly.
Any idea whats the problem?

And 1 question more, the product-mgc_bitfield_custom.xml don't need an update?
Only the product-mgc_chatbox.xml need the update?

Yes only the chatbox one.

Yes ! Coz if you don't do so, then a user that modify the options in his usercp will encounter that problem.

If you didn't add the thing to the modifyoptions template then it's a problem of bad install on your part ! You must do that modification as stated in the install instructions however such problem can appear.

This is maybe because of the BBCODE, I think that if you click on the bbcode button, you'll have the bbcode formatting line taking the whole width.

Maybe you should disable some of the chatbox bbcode in order to minimize its size.

I think you haven't reverted the template mgc_show_aide (that you might have modified due to the "Fermer" hardcoded phrase :)

This is due to the fact that your long shout doesn't contains any space so the phrase is not cut !

I have the problem that some people cant see the shoutbox at all. Its just not on any of there pages. there not banned, there usergroup settings are fine, reseting the cache hasnt worked either. We had the problem on the previous version and thought upgrading would fix it but it hasnt

As I already said many times, this is because you haven't made the modification to the modifyoptions template ! And this modification is mandatory.

Otherwise, when a user modify its options, the chatbox option won't present and so will be set to 0. (chatbox hidden).

You have to do the modification to that template and then tell your users to go to their option to show the chatbox again.

How can I make it so that the archive only displays the shouts made in the last 24 hours?

My users are concerned with their privacy and they don't want all their chats stored for several days for everyone to read.

I entered 1 for "Numbers of days of the shouts to remove", but it didn't do anything and the old chats are still in the archive. It mentions that the "automatic task of cleaning of the chatbox" needs to be activated, but I could not find where to activate that either.

Please advise.

Because it doesn't work well. I don't why and I am wondering if this functionnality shall not be removed coz If I do a kind of session table for the chatbox, it would add queries.

I have developped it on MAC OS X 10.4.10 (but maybe it was safari 2) and it was working like a charm.

You have to go in the cron manager to activate it :)

Becareful, this command has changed, the syntax is not the same as before. You have to look in the chatbox's help to get the new syntax :)

Or clik on the little pencil.

There was a bug in the first zip file for the pencil thing but it is corrected in the actual zip.

I know I asked a lot :)
But can you please check this?

I have an archieve of 15 pages.
And only want to see Team Channel shouts.
When I select show only team shouts, I see that I have 9 pages of team shouts.
when I click to any pages of this team shouts archieve, it shows "ALL shouts" including general again with 15 pages :(.
Therefore seems like impossible to reach 2 nd page of old team shouts from archieve.

OK, I finally have it installed where it isn't generating an error on my board, however, I've made all of the file modifications as directed in the installation folder, yet it still doesn't show. Nor can I find an option in my usergroups to turn it on.

I have triple checked and I did make the modification to the modifyoptions template... what else am I doing wrong?

It's normally NOT this hard for me to make things work.

To get 1.5 working on vBadvanced CMPS..

You need to delet some code in Variables globales chatbox..

Admincp >> Plugins & Products >> Plugin Manager >> Variables globales chatbox,,

Find and delete this code:

But if you completely delete that, it might mess up with the chatbox on other pages and also if vbadvanced is not in the forum directory it might not work too.

I don't recommand removing that bit of code, maybe there is a problem with but removing it completely might not work for all forums.

Just one question from me before I give this mod a try.

We currently run the shoutbox that's been around for a while, but due to the high load it places on our shared server we only run it when required. Does this chatbox place a similar load on the server or is it much more processor friendly?

Since upgrading to V1.5 -
Clicking on "Archives" in the chatbox window takes me to the vBulletin "you are not logged in" window & requires I re-login to see the archive. Only requires the re-logging in once, subsequent clicks on Archives takes me directly to archives.
Note: Clicking on the NavBar MGC Chatbox "View Archives" takes me directly to archives (as it should) with no need to re-login again.
All other aspects of MGC Chatbox seem to be working great, if I may add. Great hack.
Running vB3.6.8, upgraded from V1.2 to current V1.5. Usergroup permissions are set up, nothing else appears out of place.

Postscript 22 SEP 2007:
I tweaked the mgc_chatbox template where it calls the archive, using the chatbox navbar code as a guide, and simply deleted $vboptions[bburl]/ off the a tag href. This fixed my problem.

You should have many permissions in the usergroup manager especially the Can view chatbox and also the number of posts to see the chatbox which shall be kept lower than your number of post if you want to see it ;).

Are you sure you have followed carefully the how to install ?

Well, I went through the install line by line and did everything that it said, but unless I'm not looking in the right place, I simply don't see ANYTIHNG in the usergroup manager about chat. I do see a new item on the menu for CHAT with only the option to delete chat.

Installed and tested, definately seems to be less processor hungry. Will click on installed.

One question. On our old shoutbox the users would pick a font and a colour and stick with that through the chat session. With yours you can use a different font/colour combination once only then back to the normal text. Is there any way to make the font stick for the whole of the session?

I have installed safari 3 on my mac as this was the version 2 installed on my computer.

And there is really no problem, the chatbox run very well, I can see all the shouts in it :(

I just turned it on to test this and suddenly the options were there! I like the fact that they stay with the user even when you turn the Chatbox off and on again.

There is nothing in the acp regarding chatbox ban.

The only way to unban yourself is to ask the user that ban you to unban you.

However if you have banned yourself, the only way to do it is to go in the database and removing yourself from the mgc_chatbox_ban table. Then to go in the user table of the database and set the mgc_chatbox_ban field to 0 for your user entry.

As this is not a "normal" way of use, this won't be modified.

The option to disable the chatbox means disable everything from the chatbox so there are no reason why the option should stay ;)

You have to activate the URL BBCODE (in the chatbox options) if you want links to be automatically parsed in the chatbox.

How do you measure the server load ?

Someone also reported me about a similar increase but I haven't change anything that would have done that.

Have you experienced such increase with the 1.4 version ?

You have to activate the whosonline canal in the channel options.

Bcarefu coz it might not work on your forum, I haven't been able to find why it is working on some forum but not on other ...

This is in the usergroup permissions, you must set "Can view who's online" to yes for the desired usergroups :)

Thanks heaps man! I got it to work but I'm actually curious whenever I tried to type the command like /me for example it does not show the username as whatever /me command does but I do get an error message that pops up saying...

"Error: Command Syntax is incorrect"

Any suggestions to sort that out?

Man, I know no longer what to do.

I have this thing running at minimum capacity in terms of server load right now, and yet I get a CPU overload shut out page. Its not just this host. All to date have complained about how much CPU Resources take up due to the chatbox ajax.

Is this something that can be confidently used on medium sized forums? Then again, I wouldnt call my forum "medium" sized but it does have several thousand members, and at peak times can get 50-100 members and guests on at a time. Guests cant even view the shoutbox as it is so that wouldnt even matter... I'm beginning to feel that with a larger forum this chatbox may not be compatible.

To do so, you have to follow the howto at the end of the readme file (about style issue).

This is not really a style issue but as both modifications are using replacements to appear after the navbar, the first called will be the first under the navbar. And as you can't manage the order of the plugin calls you have no way of choosing which one will be the first.

So the only thing to is following the little howto to put it under the navbar in your forumhome template :)

What does the "MP" (as an alternative to "PM") actually stand for? Sorry if this was already asked.

Also, as an idea, if not already mentioned, perhaps you could make a message appear whenever you get a PM in the chatbox. For example, if you're viewing a different channel, a message could show up, much like if someone had posted something, that says something along the lines of "[date/time] ________ sent you a message. Check your PM channel to view it". I'm only suggesting this because you can't really notice if someone sends you a message unless you're checking the channel every-so-often.

Can I just add my name to the others that have requested a sound alert when a new message is posted. This is a feature that several of my members have asked about (We had it in a previous 'chat' feature and they loved it)

HOWEVER, on these new pages (such as "New Posts"), the Chatbox appears farther below than in the default pages. In fact, on the new pages, the space between the Chatbox and the NavBar doubled from 16 pixels to 32 pixels.

In the index page, threads, and posts it had 16 pixels of spacing, and on every other page it has 32 pixels of spacing. So when browsing the forum, the Chatbox jumps from one position to the other depending on what page you are on, instead of always staying in the same position.

To give you a better idea of what I'm talking about, I took screenshots so you can see the Chatbox on the index page (with the default 16 pixels of spacing) and on the "New Posts" page (with 32 pixels of spacing). I also took a screenshot of my Chatbox settings so you know what they are:

I think it a phrase I forgot to put in the english xml language file or an hardcoded one :(

Have a look in the mgc_chatbox_editor template and check if it's a phrase or an hardcoded text.

If it's a phrase you will be able to modify it by editing the phrase in your language manager otherwise directly in the template if it's hardcoded.

Hum Yes really strange.

Perhaps those page have a defined height or particular margin which leads to that difference. But they are mainly generic so I don't see why it would act like that.

It's kind of Flash animated files.Yahoo introduced them on their yahoo messenger long time back. When when ever a user send a audible to another user flash file load on his system and play the message in audio format with animated character.

A very good addition by yahoo. Even MSN messenger also using same thing in there messenger.

ya that's great, u can take the help of AJAX and add the code in some where user get alerts for his Private mssgs and Pager mssgs.

for this of kinda thing first we need some basic buzz like hello bye luv etc...... let me just check wat i can do about this.

Quick question...

Is there anyway to limit who can see the archives? I know I can limit who can see the chatbox and I have a user who legitimately uses the chatbox, but I'd really like to keep her from accessing the archives from when she isn't around.

It's possible to limit who can download the archives but not who can view.

If I do something like it would rather be to limit specified usergroup from seing the archives not a per user setting as it become more specific use.

I suppose this won't fill up your needs ?

Yes I know, I am sorry for that. I haven't had the time to dig into that part as I am very busy at work and I don't have internet at home for the moment (changing of ISP) so it's hard to get into that.

Thanks for this great product.

I installed this and everything is working except that i can get this thing below forum. I tried everything, double check all the codes again, everything is right. when i put it BELOW FORUM nothing happens when i put it ABOVE FORUM it appears.

the link in the navbar is working and takes me to the separate page for chatting but i need it on the forumhome. i know i cant add this: $mgc_chatbox but it could be usefull for my template.

I'm using Blaze for tamplate that has a right login column in its forumhome. maybe that is throwing it off!

I also have 2 other products at the bottom of the page. last 24 users online and adv statistic i even disabled these but nothing...

what part am i doing wrong?

This functionnality is already implemented :)

This is maybe because this smileys are in your database but not present anymore in your folders.

You should remove them in the smileys manager of the acp.

i have an idea

:D<< maybe its stuiped .... but when any one refresh the page the chatbox go and fetch the data again (And sometimes no one cares about the chatbox) so the idea i had is to add one tiny option in the admincp which make the chatbox in the unactive mode when someone open the page .... and im sure this option will make load lesser by 50% at least

Yup:
- First check if both bitfield_mgc.xml and bitfield_mgc_chatbox.xml are in the includes/xml folder => If not, then add them and reinstall the chatbox
- Then go in your admincp in the product list check if there is the MGC chatbox and the MGC bitfields products => If not, then upload the missing product.

This should cover your problem.

This is if you want to do the automatic template edits with the TMS system of Andreas :)

If you have his product installed, with this xml file, template modifications are done only by uploading this xml file. (Instead of having to do them all manually).

Got a bug to report. I never noticed it on my board. But installed a chatbox on friends board which is not English but in Ex-Yugoslavian languages like Croatian,Bosnian etc.
And this happens when someone tries to use a special character letters from that language like:
Čć?đ?
A shout containing those letters is not displayed. Nor error received. But afterwards messages that don't contain them can't be posted either by that member, they get an error:
"error: please wait some seconds before sending a new message".

After that logging out seems to help to loose that error.

I followed the install instructions and have it working well, but I have a small issue - the "MGC Chat" link in the top navbar (between "Calendar" and "New Posts") does not do anything when clicked on.

in french, j'utilise les variables de remplacements pour détourner le nom des smilies par défaut de vbulletin sur les miens, ça me permet de garder le skin de vbulletin standard intacte tout en pouvant rediriger les images vers celles que je veux grace aux vars de remplacement. Apparemment ça marche bien dans le menu de selection des smiles mais quand je poste, le smilie de vbulletin par defaut est affiché donc la var de remplacement na pas été prise en compte.

J'ai pris une screen sur le problème , c'est plus parlant, j'y ai poste le smilie qui devrait etre bleu mais comme la var n'est pas prise en compte j'ai le redface normal de vbulletin.

I think that replacement variables are maybe not taken into account in the shouts, this is strange, I add it to the list to check that out.

This is a problem of character encoding and ajax.

I am unfortunately not skilled enough in that domain to find out what could fix that :(

Do you encounter the same problem when using the quick reply with ajax ?

Actually I do, never noticed that either. But writing a numerical code of that character works, and it is translated to the letter in shoutbox.
Like if I write:
&?#268;
it will turn out as:
Č
in the shoutbox. Maybe that can be of some help.

P.S. Had to insert a question mark after "&" sign in that numerical code or else it got translated into letter Č here as well :)

First read the documentation to build the chatbox module in vBa, I assume you already have your Chatbox template module linked to a template adv_portal_mgc_chatbox with the variable
$mgc_chatbox into. Then follow theses instructions:

1) MGC Chatbox > Display and position > Display on defined pages above the navbar > NO
2) MGC Chatbox > Display and position > Display on defined pages in a variable > YES
3) vBa CMPS > Default Settings > Main Options > Portal Output Global Variables > Enter the value mgc_chatbox
4) Plugins & Products > Plugin Manager > Product : MGC chatbox : Variables globales chatbox > Click Large Edit Box and start editing as mentioned below:

FIND

Pay attention to correct each steps carefully and MGC will run smoothly :) (This does not alter in any way how MGC is working, I have checked carefully my modifications the way that it shouldnt produce new bugs or disable functions, but if you have a problem feel free to report.)
It makes MGC no more dependent on directories paths so you must be able to place it in any dir/pages with $mgc_chatbox like vba wich is often placed in another one.

have figured out how to workaround the chatbox width problem on the portal, when you have a small width portal then the chatbox is too long and will break the layout, figured out how to correct it like in the picture attached, if some need explanations feel free to request

However, your solution was kinda like the previous way I did the integration with vbportal and also why I removed it.

Let me explain it a bit.

In that code :
var mgc_cb_jsloc = "$vboptions[bburl]";

You're adding the $vboptions[bburl] var. So ajax calls in the mgc_chatbox.js file will be done with a full http url.

Calling ajax with full http url is generally not allowed by browsers (forbidden action in the javascript language definition).

It might work on some host but it might also not work at all on others.

So I recommend to becareful when using your fix as this could not work.

No problems in IE and Firefox, who cares of others ? ;) You must try out the various browsers ouuta there but I doubt this is a problem, I have IE 7 + Firefox and there is no problems at all , no scripting error spawn at all so I guess all is ok if both major broswers are rendering it correctly, personnaly I prefer to use that way because the forum path isn't defined in all vbuletin config, most are forgetting to set it up, and having the local path of the computer showable in the source is not really security friendly :) I mean you just have to read the source of the index to read what is the full system path with the /home included of your box, really not security friendly (that's probably why vbulletin replaces the defaults mysql error page by a standalone one wich looks like a 404 error to hide the path to each errors).

Well anyway you dont like it or not I think I showed you enough to understand from where vbadvanced is giving some complications, that path can be modified in seconds if you prefer another way but the main goal to make 1.5 working with vba is done :)

This doesn't seem to depend on the browser.

In the 1.4 version, the code was the same as yours but this caused problem on some host.

Don't know exactly why on some but not all ... But when there was an error it said that this action was not allowed (I mean the call of a js files with full http url).

Putting the $forumpath was the only simple way I found as for now. Indeed it might not be secure enough but the big problem is the full http url in the path.

This problem is not that simple and needs more reflexion to find the perfect solution which I don't have for the moment.

a ok I see you mean some web hosting problems. Well then warn in the documentation some host may disallow direct .js linking explaining a workaround for that issue because your script is very fine and that's not to you to workaround stupid server's configuration, just my 2cent mind.

new problem. it seems that some users do not have access to the chatbox, but many others do. they are all lumped in the same primary usergroups. the odd think is that i have a test screen name that does not have access to the chatbox when i log in under that name.

It seems that it depends of the server configuration coz user with big boards haven't experienced such problems while few of you have.

What refresh rate have you put for the chatbox ?

Have you activated team message warning system and inactive mode ?

I have the reset rate at 10 seconds.

All Mods and Admins (11 total) have access to the chatbox. Only registered users with 5 or more posts can view it, which is only around 500 members.

never got such problem also , I guess you have a bug and vbulletin thinks the template is not here but is physicaly here in the database, try searching in phpmyadmin if the template is inside but that could not be issued by the vbdev's addon because your bug is in a vba feature.

VBDev. I am waiting for the next version of your chatbox before I'm going to install it on my site. It all looks very promising and I can't wait for it to be released. I hope there will be a proper vBAdvanced option to use otherwise it's useless for me.

One question tho: Are you going to add a feature which shows to members when there's a new topic created on the forums? Would be an awesome feature, Inferno Shoutbox got it too.

I'm also having the problem with people not being able to see the chat box while invisible. Seems like once you go invisible the chat box is no longer visible even if you turn off invisibility.

The admin of the french resource forum I belong to can see it while he is invisible.

As they ever been able to see it ?

I wonder, have you modified the modifyoptions template ? If not this could be the reason why they have seen it but not they don't anymore. As the modification of that template introduces option for the chatbox and especially one to hide or not the chatbox.

This is the additionnal css you should have added which makes that.

Have you uploaded the js files ? Was it a fresh install or an update ?

New posts corresponds to search so this is in the search templates.

So, I tried putting the code to have it show up in template "search_results_postbit_lastvisit" and it doesn't show up, but in template "search_results" it does work, but I really only want it to show up on the New Posts page. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

It could be possible that this particular template is built in a function.

In this case, the $mgc_chatbox var won't be available in that function unless you edit the function to add the $mgc_chatbox as a global var (which I do not recommend as files editing is now vbulletin's past :D).

Perhaps you should try to dig in the files to know if it's the case if you know a little about php code ?

I think I did Iuploaded all of the files that the instuctions said too and it was a fresh install

No, I don't know anything of php code. I can fill in the blanks of a config.php file, that's about it. haha

I cant get the english language pack to install. It says rebuilding...done, no errors. I've tried uploading through the browser and directly off the server.

Everything is still in french. Please tell me why it isn't taking it?

I'm using overwrite english, ignore version, etc. as instructed.

When it stays loading, is it on the forumhome ?

Does IE display an error icon on the bottom left of the browser ? If yes, double click on that icon and tell me what is the error.

I have tried the language file upload several times and it works just perfectly :(
