Look to the readme file, it comes from your style ;) There is a little howto than can help you fix this problem.

I didn't understand everything in your post kind of strange english for me :D

For the smilies, you can set the number that can be shown in the option of the acp.

What is exactly your problem with the " and & characters ?

I am sorry, but the separations of permissions can use/can view are not present in the acutal version of the chatbox :(

Anyway, I will put it in my todo list coz this is quite a good idea !

Still using it, and it works better in my opinion then the Shoutbox. Since this hack as well as usually every other hack has 3000000 pages ;) was wondering if you could put a rough ETA of next release in the original post at the bottom. I know you can't give a definite time, because we all have things that pop up and change things, but a rough ETA like:

Next Expected Release

v1.2 around July/August 2007

That might help others to know the progress and expected release of the next version instead of rummaging through a few dozen pages. Or you might think the suggestion is worthless. Either way, thanks for the great product.

I have not understood that part ! You mean works with ff and not ie on your computer ? Do you have specific modules installed on your ie ?

Anyway, the inline edit works just fine in ie6,ie7 and ff as far as I have been able to test.

With which version did you encounter the problem ?

I have many users that possess ie7 and noone has experience such thing ya now. This is a bit hard to solve :(

If I had had the problem I could have debug it but without having it it's harder :S

I just uploaded the 1.2 version and I can't seem to get it to place itself at the bottom of the forums. It's positioning itself at the top of the forums regardless if I tell it at the bottom or not.

lol thx.. just finished installing 1.1 while you were updating to 1.2. :P

Great mod btw, it working fine and i love all the options that come with it. But i do have one problem related to the date, it shows up as the format d/m/y and it doesn't mater if i change it to some other format. This is with a dutch language pack, with english it's fine.

Do you've got any ideas? I've seen a post some pages back related to this problem but i think the code has changed in the php file which you said to replace.

For all those who have experience a problem with showing up the chatbox v1.2 at the bottom of the page, I have put a fix in the modification post and updated the zip file :)

For RemiAlone, I had experienced such a problem between my local forum and one online. For my local forum, I had to put %d/%m/%y while on the online one d/m/y was just fine...

Don't know why :(

Thanks m8 that fixed the problem. Now the date is screwed up when the forum is set to english but since i'm the only one using that i'll think i get over it. :P

If you have enabled chatbox in options and edit usergroups permissions, read the file Read Me and find the bloc : " Display the Chatbox on some styles". You can carry out modifications in a plugin and in your template FORUMHOME.

I get this error, when i try to update the chatbox from 1.1 to 1.2

If we already had 1.0 / 1.1 installed, all we had to do was upload files, edit the modify options removing the 1.0 / 1.1 code, then add the 1.2 code then import the chatbox xml and we are done?

You should have a specific "UPGRADE" section instead of mixing it in with the full install.

Also in the usergroup permissions: "Can use command /annonce?"

It's "announce". Hope that helps the spelling error.

But it works fine with ie ? This kind of error seems like you had customized the template of the chatbox.

Am I right ? This causes the chatbox_mode javascript var to be used in the clientscript mgc_chatbox.js file but as It's not in your template, it fires an error !

This why I tell in the installation instructions to revert the templates before :)

You should :

Replace the files on the ftp by the one of the new version
Revert the modifications you have done to the templates of the chatbox (if any)
Remove the modificaton of the modify_options template of the chatbox v1.1
Import the new xml (don't forget to select the Allow Overwrite option)
Do the new modification of the modify_options template
EnjoyNo no there are no erros ! I develop this hack for the french community at first and we say annonce hereby :) So I won't make two versions of the commands or it will be horrible to maintain.

Anyway I don't think that's a big problem as the command syntax is shown in the help ;)

I have not customised and of the chat templates that i know of...
I have just checked and there are difference between the 2 versions 1.1 and 1.2
The change happened obviously when i upgraded, there was no edites made to any of the templates myself.... see enclosed file, this is the mgc_chatbox template compare....there is also a screener of the mgc templates that shows only the chatbox template had been changed (by upgrade)

So, are you saying i need to revert the template after the upgrade has changed it?

EDIT:

Ok done the revert and it works ok now, I dont understand actually....
When you do the revert, does it revert back to the 1.1 version of the template?
If so what was the point in the changes in the 1.2 template?

BTW still cannot inline edit using IE 7 version: 7.0.6000.16448

I concur, there is no longer any team icons nor help option!!

I am gonna go back to 1.1 if its possible lol

Back to 1.1 and work ok apart from the inline edit :(

Found the Solution - everyone has to set the Userrights completely new for the Chatbox. :cool: ;)

@Bashy: If you have insalled v1.2, then the revert of the templates make so that the templte of the master style is used so it's the 1.2 one :) Everything is allright for you now ? (Except from the inline chat edit ?)

@Redlabour: yeah as I said in the modification post, permissions for team command has been moved to the usergroup permissions for limiting of options in the vbulletin options and I found it was a better place for it!
What do you mean by the fact that you still only see the same teammode than before ? You mean that you still have the two tabs mode ? You can have the one tab mode (both team and general shouts in the same tab). In that mode buttons are not shown and you must use the /team command :).
The choice between the two mode is available in the acp.

The code in the modify_options is the same but the place where it must be put is not :)

I got them set so they can see the chat box but they still cannot? Any thoughts?

Hovering over the channel buttons say canal.... do i edit this in phrases or the template??

Edit:

Ok found it its in the template, changed it to Staff Chat and Member Chat :)

That's because of french locale I think. vbdate() has an option to turn off locale and use the date() function format instead "strsomething()" format.

I have two teams for my forum, so i have given them equal permissions. But when ever they chat on shoutbox usernames for both the teams appear with same color default: Orange.

I want to unique colors for both the teams. Like if one team has orange usernames, other can have black or green.

You mean the color of the username of your teams ? If in usergroups, you have set colors for the username in the forums, it shall be the same in the chatbox.

And yeah i updated my MGC CHATBOX. ITZ WORKING LIKE CHAMP. But i was not able to find modify_options template anywhere. So i didn't removed that template yet. I have one template "modifyoptions" but it is without underscore.

What does CHAMP mean ?

You don't have to remove the modifyoptions template (yup sorry little mistaking its witouth underscore) you have to remove the previous modifications you had to made for the v1.1 of the chatbox and apply the new modification.

And yeah one thing more, if certain usergroup doesn't have permission to use /annonce command from shoutbox it create problem with database.

I entered /annonce <text here> and pressed enter. A pop-up shoed up and when i closed it down, i was redirected to password change screen. Vbulletin was telling me that my password is 431 days old and expired. so u need to enter password.

Then i /annonce from CP and tried again. it worked. But u should look after the error thing also...

What does the popup was saying ? Normally, if permissions to use /annonce are good for you, you shall have a popup with : Announce was successfully modified or kind of (I don't know how Sofia translated it ;)).

Anyway, when changing the announce, I rebuild the vbulletin options datastore (as I update the mgc_chatbox_annonce setting, this is why it can be modified from both the chatbox and the acp). So maybe your options had not been update since a long time and you had a password age set (or kind of).

After having reset your passowrd, did the /annonce worked ?

no idea why but no shoutbox will work for me after new installation of server and vbulletin.

Is there a special option of configuring the apache ?

.. vbshout, dreamchat and MGC Chatbox will always freeze at "Loading.." and nothing happpens...

I can enter a text and the the text is visible in the archive but not in chatbox... only "Loading.."...

Could you please help me, my users are missing the chat and i have no idea how to fix it

Does your server allows ajax requests ? Any other ajax functionnalities are working on your board ?

Maybe you should dig on that part coz this seems like ajax requests are not taken into account.

You are right, there seems to be no ajax functionality on my server .. please cann you explain me how to turn it on ? The ajax function in vbulletin is turn on !

EDIT:

Found the error in language File .. Edit the Settings in my language German von ISO-xxxx to UTF-8 and now its working fine for me.

Seems to be, that ajax is expecting a special iso

For the smilies problem, there may be a fix but I didn't tested it yet, so maybe you could try:

Open the includes/function_mgc_cb.php file
Find the getChatboxSmileys function
In the line $chatbox_smileys .= '<a href="#" onclick="return ajout_smilie(\'' . $textsmilie . '\');" alt="' . $smilie['title'] . '"><img src="' . $smilie['smiliepath'] . '" border="0" /></a> ';
Replace # by #top

Hi!

Great mod VBDev but havent installed it yet :(

My members like it on the homepage of VBa 3.0 as a module as well as the forumhome so until I can figure out how to do it with this mod I cant change from VbShout :(

Any ideas how to add it to VbAdvanced?

Also I have a question... is it possible to place the shoutbox under "whos online" rather than on top of the forums?

To put it under the whosonline would be possible. You have to follow the little how to of the readme file for styles where the chatbox doesn't show on bottom of the page and do it so that the var to add in the template is under the whosonline.

For vbadvanced, you'll have to wait until next version I think.

ok, after working with it a bit when you have it set to have the newest posts at the bottom you have to scroll down to the bottom when you first enter a page with the chatbox as it displays the top of the chat window. at least that's an issue i'm running in to.

This is not an issue as it is coded like that ;) I haven't still searched a way to move down the scrollbar down to the last chat on load.

I'll try to check that, noted on todo list !

version 1.1 was working great for me but then i switched to 1.2 and now one my main template it keeps saying loading...i switched it to UTF-8 and that didnt help. Any ideas of what im doing wrong? my other template is working fine

I fixed this problem by doing the following...

Open the includes/function_mgc_cb.php file

FIND:
$chatbox_smileys .= '<a href="#top" onclick="return ajout_smilie(\'' . $textsmilie . '\');" alt="' . $smilie['title'] . '"><img src="' . $smilie['smiliepath'] . '" border="0" /></a> ';

REPLACE WITH:
$chatbox_smileys .= '<a href="#shout_top" onclick="return ajout_smilie(\'' . $textsmilie . '\');" alt="' . $smilie['title'] . '"><img src="' . $smilie['smiliepath'] . '" border="0" /></a> ';

Then go into the Styles editor and edit the template - mgc_chatbox

I fixed this problem by doing the following...

Open the includes/function_mgc_cb.php file

FIND:

REPLACE WITH:

You mean the color of the username of your teams ? If in usergroups, you have set colors for the username in the forums, it shall be the same in the chatbox.

What does CHAMP mean ?

You don't have to remove the modifyoptions template (yup sorry little mistaking its witouth underscore) you have to remove the previous modifications you had to made for the v1.1 of the chatbox and apply the new modification.

What does the popup was saying ? Normally, if permissions to use /annonce are good for you, you shall have a popup with : Announce was successfully modified or kind of (I don't know how Sofia translated it ;)).

Anyway, when changing the announce, I rebuild the vbulletin options datastore (as I update the mgc_chatbox_annonce setting, this is why it can be modified from both the chatbox and the acp). So maybe your options had not been update since a long time and you had a password age set (or kind of).

After having reset your passowrd, did the /annonce worked ?

yes after resetin password /annonce worked fine. Pop was a kind of full page pop up. It was showing some kind of coding. Even there is not button on the POP UP .... soo i closed it from Task Manager. Then i reset my password then tried again. Then /annonce worked fine.

Yeah, this is certainly due to what I was telling, you might have your datastore which was not up to date and when the chatbox code had update it the error appeared.

And as this is done before the redirect, instead of seing an ok popup, it has echoed the password too old page code.

For those who find the upgrade instructions not that clear, here is how you should upgrade :

Replace the files on the ftp by the one of the new version
Revert the modifications you have done to the templates of the chatbox (if any)
Remove the modificaton of the modify_options template of the chatbox v1.1
Import the new xml (don't forget to select the Allow Overwrite option)
Do the new modification of the modify_options template (code to insert has not changed, only its place has changed :))

Is anyone else seeing an issue with the newest shouts at the bottom and having a wrapped line, having to scroll to see the rest of the shout? In other words, a 2 or 3 line wrapped shout is only showing the first line when positioned with the newest at the bottom.

This was tested with the editor at both the bottom and the top. I wanted to make certain the rest of the shout wasn't hiding behind the editor table.

I have tested right now with a shouts that took 2 lines and a half and it just worked fine.

I had to wrap to the bottom of the chatbox scrollbar (which is normal as I said in a previous post) but the chat is clearly fully shown. Do you have a a screenshot of the problem ? Which browser are you using ?

i have done this upgrade but I can't make it work. installed back 1.1 again. :(

This kind of problem is because you didn't replace all the files on the ftp, especially the one in the clientscript folder.

Have you put all the new files instead of the older one ?

I'm not sure what good a screen shot is going to do you since it will only show a sentence not finished and I could easily set that up to occur anyway. So just trust me on that issue. I have tested it on a Mac with Safari, Camino and Firefox and a friend was using IE on a PC.

Since it's not happening to you, I am forced to conclude it's something on my end. So I'll dig a little more here first.

Works great. Server load tends to spike if you have it enabled elsewhere or if you have too many shouts displaying in the box. Other than that....good mod.

This might come from the overflow not well taken into account, but I don't think as you ran into this issue for both existing browsers.

You experience that with a long chat running on 3 full lines ?

Anyway, I might haven't understand well your question. If you scroll then you're able to see the 3 lines ? (this is why I asked for a screenshot coz I am not sure I did well understood the problem).

If someone makes a long 3 line chat, the screen will only drop down to show the first line and you have to scroll to see the remaining 2 lines.

Having it set to bring in the new chats from the top down works fantastic but from the bottom up is when this issue is showing up.

Again if no on else is experiencing this, it has to be something on my end. I just have no clue as to what it may be? Now to be honest, I didn't notice this until a I was running the 1.2 version for a couple of days. I didn't install any new mods in that time and last night I deleted the chatbox entirely, reuploaded all the files, reverted the templates and reuploaded the products. No difference was seen.

The width is fixed and needs to be a percentage because the box overflows to the right in some resolutions. The admincp options show options for height.

Wait wait, If I do understand, I don't manage the scrollbar at all when sending chats so this is a normal functionning !

The width of the chatbox is still a percentage. The problem with smaller resolution might come from the fact that bbcode line tooks a lots of place.

What was the resolution in which you experienced that ? Coz I have 1680x1050 on this computer so I won't experience that ;)

Could you make a screen with all parts of the chatbox expanded plz ?

Attached is a screenshot. Simply change the size of the browser window and you'll see that the chatbox overflows the rest of the site. The site main table width in StyleVars is 85%.

Update: It is indeed the width size of the field input box. I changed this to 35 and now this matches the 728 width of the banner ad.

The only suggestion I'd make is that it would be nice to see who's in the chat room if the chat room is configured to be open in it's own page as well.

I'm using the chatroom in it's own window /forums/mgc_chatbox.php?do=view_chatbox#top to help keep the forums from looking wayyyy too cluttered and scroll heavy. Is there a way to broadcast who's online from this other page?

Also, adding who's in chat to the actual chat window would prolly not be a bad idea.

Lastly, I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this but if you click a smiley when in chat, you browser window returns to the top for whatever reason. This makes it necessary to keep the smiley bar above the chat window otherwise the window repositioning becomes tiresome.

These are small issues so I wouldn't voice them as complaints, just observations by a new user.

This could be normal as you max number of user connections is limited.

Maybe you could disable the auto refresh of the chatbox, this would limit the execution of the refreshing query.

No noone has been experienced that expect obmob with the first line problem.

Only the first line??? who that's strange, I don't see what could cause this problem. Especially if this is for one line. I think it might come from your skin but don't know what could be messing with the chatbox :/

can u fix the /announce in 1.3 ?

As I previously told, this is not a wrong spelling, this is just the fact that this hack was originally developped for the french community. And in french an announce is "annonce".

For some commands I have used english which is in some way easier to type for certain commands, but for this one it was not easier.

Maybe I'll implement both commands so that you don't feel like a kiddie fiddler ...

I haven't tested the chatbox on vb3.5.4, and I think that it might not be compatible with that version has there are changes in the plugin management syste.

Only the first line??? who that's strange, I don't see what could cause this problem. Especially if this is for one line. Built in mp3 player (right side column). I will gladly donate $25 for this particular mp3 addon, along with anyone else willing to donate for your time.

The MP3 player features would include

* stream mp3 from my local server
* stream online radio stations
* sort by artist, song title or genre
* mini search box to search song list
* volume / start / stop / pause
* shuffle playlist
* search / sort function (category, artist, song, genre, sermons)
* expand (shows all functions plus about 10 songs in list w/ scrollbar) / Collapse (minimal view, just buttons)

I really do not have time for such functionnality and I don't think it is an interesting feature for a chatbox as It doesn't add anything to the chat experience ;)

Have you set all the permissions for your usergroup through the usergroup manager ?

If yes, have you tried the different positions of the chatbox to see if one works ?

If yes, then your style must present some differences from the original default one, you have to follow the steps described in the readme files for custom styles.

I am currently using the chestnut style for my forum, so I didn't know about it not having links (although I can click on the buttons, but that might be something else?) If I ever need to link something, such as the arcade, I simply create a forum and use it as a link. Do I need to do that in this case for the chatbox to work? In other words, if I do not include those two codes somewhere, will it affect the chatbox?

Yes you can add them to the quick links button.

You can access to the second link by clicking on the Archives link in the chatbox :) The other one is used to open the chatbox in full page mode if authorized.

In my opinion, you have done wrong modifications to the navbar template as you can see from the mgc_chatbox menu links shown badly on the page.

Something weird happened. Last night, the chatbox was working great. I removed the navbar stuff, add the extra forumhome code to have it show at the bottom, and it was showing in the forum display. Great stuff! However...

Today I wake up, and the chatbox is gone. I can't see it using my custome made webmaster account on neither the home page or in the forum display pages. I log in as a regular member, and I can see it in the forum display, but not forum home...

Do you know what could have caused this to happen overnight? Little bit confused. :confused:

Hey VBDev, you were, only thing was that because of my style i had to edit "header" template, instead of "navbar". Anyways, i was wondering if there was a way to make th SB AJAX Style, just like Vb Shout 2.0 ? I had that installed before, but alot of my members were complaining and said that they liked the other one better because it was more "smooth". I personally like this one better as it has alot more options. Let me know if theres a way, thanx.

Also i have a suggestion, is it possible to add this feature to the Chatbox, If someone doesnt shout for 15 min, the chatbox automatically closes. I Had this feature on my vbshout

Something weird happened. Last night, the chatbox was working great. I removed the navbar stuff, add the extra forumhome code to have it show at the bottom, and it was showing in the forum display. Great stuff! However...

Today I wake up, and the chatbox is gone. I can't see it using my custome made webmaster account on neither the home page or in the forum display pages. I log in as a regular member, and I can see it in the forum display, but not forum home...

Do you know what could have caused this to happen overnight? Little bit confused. :confused:

Did you ask them if they had not checked the no option for the show chatbox in their usercp ? Coz this might be the reason.

how many queries does it takes?

2 queries at each retrieving and parsing of the chats list, 5 queries more on page load if you activate the stats on forumhome.

You need to do the template edits required per the install instructions.

Yes I didn't think about that but da420 is right, have you done the modifications to the modifyoptions template as explained in the readme file.

If you don't make it, then on first profile change, the form items will not be present. This then lead to the fact that the values returned will be equal to 0. So I am pretty certain that this could be the problem you're experiencing.

All is good here as well!!..........Thanks and this is a great MOD its lite on the server and has loads of features over a lot of the others.:up:

Also is there a way to limit the font selection size in the userCP or is it tied to the font selection size in the post\reply boxes of the main template?

Awesome product. Installed it easy enough. I have one issue and I tried to look through the pages to find the fix. Please help me.

When I installed. It put the chat box right where I wanted it on the main page. However any time I go anywhere other than the main page (like new posts, individual threads. The MGC Chatbox text shows, but not the actual chatbox dialog box. When I click on the text (which appears to be a link), it does not do anything or goanywhere.

I do notice that the only thing it does appear to do is add a # to the URL.

Any thoughts.

You have configured the chatbox to show on the forumhome, forumdisplay and showthread through the admincp options, that's right ?

Could you just make a screenshot of what appears in the other pages plz so that I could help you ?

I do not find anyplace (except within the usergroups options) to configure the chat in the admincp

It has been running well all day.
One very minor issue...
I would like to have one usergroup in particular have only 'view' privileges. The 'Unregistered / Not Logged In' group. So I check off yes to only the "Can see MGC Chatbox?" permission,and adjusted the minimum post requirement to zero, just in case.
And it doesn't show up.
However, if I add the "Can use MGC Chatbox?", then, of course, it is visible to guests, and functional, as I did a few test shouts logged off.

Any ideas on that?
One thing I loved about the vB Shout flat file system I had was that it was visible, but unusable for guests.

Looking forward to the new version soon:)

The chatbox doesn't modify anything in that part and the shout table is not one of the chatbox so I think you posted your problem in the wrong place.

There is only one template change which is really mandatory (the one for the modifyoptions template) as actually the hooks in the template are not really expanded you know it is difficult to make it automatically.

The other modifications are for the navbar things so you are not obliged to do it !

As soon as I tried to import the product product-mgc_chatbox.xml, the following error occurs. This only happens when trying to import the product. I first imported the product-mgc_bitfield_custom.xml and it gets imported fine. So I suspect there is something to do with product-mgc_chatbox.xml. Can anybody help?

What do you mean exactly ? You mean the navbar links ?

If this is what you speaking of, then just don't do the navbar template edit stipulated in the readme file :)

The main difference between both is the functionnalities, mine as more functionnalities and is maybe a little bit more evolved in terms of options.

Anyway, I would say both are good products, Dream does great work too :)

Maybe you should test both and then decide which one fits the best to your forum as it clearly depends of your needs ;)

I do not wish for any shout/chat box application to be featured at the top of the page. I want to place the box at the bottom of the vbAdvanced portal page and the bottom of the forum page (as well as a fully functional dedicated page). If I am limited to the first option, I will likely use a different mod. That would be tragic, as this is the best application for the task.

Anyway, this will apply only to new pages. I mean not forumhome, nor forumdisplay nor showthread. Regarding the fully dedicated page it would still be there.

And for vbAdvanced, I rather plan to make an addon for my chatbox which would allow to place the chatbox in the middle or on the side as both wouldn't require the same graphical design.

Why I am asking that pool is because the second option would require quite a lot of templates modifications as you would need to edit many templates to add a single line of code. This is not the easiest way for installation but the easiest one for own customization.

I'll see what users would prefer and will adapt the way I have actually made it in the current version under development :)

As the progression is going well, I think I'll maybe release the new version at the end of the weekend and then will fastly work out the vbadvanced addon (if the chatbox is in a global var, you will be able to temporarly use the on all page functionnality for that purpose).

if someone wil use the chat, these two pages are ok to show the chat ...
... but i think, a forum is a forum, and a chat is a chat!
in a forum the user should do some postings ...

Yes I agree with you but lots of people like the chatboxes to be shown everywhere, though it increase the number of queries made to the sql server !

Anyway this is a functionnality and users are not obliged to activate it so that's not a big deal ;)

I've been using I-Tech shoutbox, and what I really like about it is that it show, las replied posts inside the shoutbox, that's a really good feature, as users post more often.

I'll like to try your shoutbox as it seems more rich featured, but I'm missing that particular option

there are some bugs on ur shoutbox!

the team channel link do not work on firefox and also /me command is odd... since the text will be displayed on the right side

and also i receive tons of database error from the shoutbox

Which version of firefox do you use ?
Is this problem is also in IE ? (if this is the case, have you uploaded the chatbox images in all your skins folders ?)
Have you choosed to show the chatbox in double channels mode ?

You are the second user to report such problem but I have never been able to experienced that myself, would it be possible for you to find a way to see the source html ? (not the one after page loading availabe through right clicks in the browser as unfortunately chat content is loaded afterwards so don't know it that's really possible).

also on the pm i said that the font size feature and toher aint visisble on usercp, edit options :/ im using dazzle as forum skins
