I'm fairly new at vB hacks, but I've been doing phpBB hacks for a while now (as well as PHP itself).

I'm just curious as to which version I should begin my endeavour. It seems that 3.5 uses a different system altogether for mods (now plug-ins?). And from what I've read, 3.0 hacks won't work on this system.

When is 3.5 due for release? I see its in RC3 stage. I'm just not sure how many RC's it goes through before release.

So can someone lend some insight with this? I'd hate to put a lot of time into something only to have it become obselete so soon.

Well it all depends, are you looking to learn more for future advancement, or are you looking to make people happy right now

. Most people are still on 3.0.X as of right now, BUT I believe alot of that will change once vB 3.5 goes gold so, for future advancement I would do 3.5, but if you just want to make some people happy as of right now I would start with 3.0.X series.
