I'm building a new site that's primary focus will be for users to submit reviews. However I'm going to add in a forum (vBulletin) for members to discuss the reviews and what not. Here is the point that I've come to that I would like your thoughts and opinions on.
I'm wondering if I should require users to be registered and logged in in order to submit reviews and if so, should they be registered through the forums or through an independent user system? The system I built is not using vBulletin in any way as of right now and I really would like to keep it separate for the most part as I'm not looking to build my own portal. What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

Submitting a review yes, giving an opinion on the review no at least thats me.

The forum isn't going to be setup to give comments on the review. That's not what I meant to imply, sorry. But that didn't really answer the question of how it should be handled. Do you have any thoughts on that?
First off, you shouldn't have them seperate. I mean VB and your review program. Get a copy of Review Post and use the hack to integrate them. And yes, they should be registered before allowed to give a review. Otherwise you'll get too many jokers in there if your site gets busy.

I don't see why I shouldn't have them separate. I don't want a portal like system, hency why I made my own. As far as the jokers go, I've already set it up in my system where it goes into a queue and it must be approved by me before it shows up on the site. In any case I'll at least have a look at this Review Post thing you mentioned.
Thanks. However this isn't what I'm looking for. I'm not looking for something that integrates into vBulletin, I just wanted to be able to login using the vBulletin database so I didn't have to create a separate username and password for users. Thanks anyway.

Hi Zack, just curious, do you get any wierd comments, insults etc? Neowin.net used to have it set the same way, until guests started to use profanities, etc.
