what is the hack that when a new member logs in for the first time they get a popup message telling them they have a private message?

New users should have popups on by default upon registration, make sure you do not have that option on for the siugnup form, that way they cant turn it off when signing up.

It already goes to new users, you dont need to put it in a usergroup.

hmmm i tried it mate by creating a new account put it never appeared.

The function works fine if you set it up correctly, it would appear if its not working, then you did not do it correctly.
