what is the hack that when a new member logs in for the first time they get a popup message telling them they have a private message?

New users should have popups on by default upon registration, make sure you do not have that option on for the siugnup form, that way they cant turn it off when signing up.

1. Pop up a Notification Box When a Private Message is Received <-- Deselect this

2. Welcome Private Message
Enabling this option will send a welcome private message to new users. Please input the username of the user that this PM is to be sent from. To alter or translate this message, use the following links:

[PM Title] [PM Body]

Note: If you require emails to be verified, this message will be sent after the user has activated his or her account. Also ensure that Receive Private Messages is enabled in Default Registration Options below.

So if i wanted it to go to new users can i just put in that usergroup?

It already goes to new users, you dont need to put it in a usergroup.

hmmm i tried it mate by creating a new account put it never appeared.:confused:

The function works fine if you set it up correctly, it would appear if its not working, then you did not do it correctly.
