4 x Dual Xeon Single Core 3.0 1 Gb RAM servers. Too much RAM is useless if the processor is not strong enough

But Dual/Dual Opterons are more powerful than Dual/Single Xeons.

Ram is too important, go with the 2 gigs.

If you need that much proccessing power chances are you will need at least 1GB ram. Go with the 2nd option.
Not only are opterons better but you get more ram |

Mmm... that's what I thought - 2 D/D Opterons are better than 4 D/S Xeons.

I'd have to consider what you are doing with all of the servers, however at the end of the day the Opterons, even a single dual core would probally stomp all over a dual single core xeon setup. I'm guessing you are going for web/db servers Erwin? Might want to look at smaller frontend boxes and mroe of them, with a beefier database system and possibly a memcached server for storing the database in. Altho I've only heard about such a system I'm sure it would be killer as far as fast. |

I'd go with 2 x Dual Opteron Dual Core 2.0 2 Gb RAM. 1 Gb is just too little, regardless of CPU power.
