High res helps ALOT for coding and other workish tasks... I have a 21" Dell Trinitron (my poor desk) and I use 1600x1200, now anything less is so frustrating. Pretty sweet monitor considering they retail under 200$.

Good choice, Chris. NEC would have been my choice if I hadn't spotted the Sony first. NEC makes some very good LCDs.

My previous monitor was made by NEC and lasted nearly 3 years of almost constant use, but it was only 15" and could only manage 1024x768

Now I'm looking forward to 1280x1024

@corrie - I got this as my early birthday present - My parents don't have a limitless wallet and I don't currently have any employment or income to subsidise any additional cost...

As it is it cost about ?186 with delivery, so that's approximately $325 :ermm:

It's a decent monitor - I have no room to put it elsewhere, and I accept that 17" is as big as I can currently go - When I have a job in 2 or 3 years time when that monitor expires I will be able to buy a 50" 6250 x 5000 resolution monitor, but until that time I'd rather have a nice 17" display that works than a blank space on my desk because I was too stuck up and childish to accept anything less than the all-singing all-dancing automatic-coffee-making monitor with little bells that play a tune...

Chris

While they're not crappy monitors, I don't think Sony LCDs are worth the extra cost. I have a 17" one that looks just as good as my Dell 2001FP...no better color saturation, no sharper image, fewer ports (not a fair comparison given the 2001FP is 20" and has S-Video, Composite, and a USB hub)...the bezel is much nicer though, but the cable management system requires smashing all of the cables into a tiny breakaway plastic container in the monitor's neck.
