I guess I can deal with it, just the ones that are really old and served it's purpose for a stupid bump like. "Good Job" blah blah.. |

I think this is a great idea.
However, a user should still be able to post -- just make them aware of how old the post/thread is. |

We might close a really old request thread and suggest that you post a new one. Again it just depends on the situation. |

I think it's good when a new person rummages through old dead threads and asks us about some helpful hack we've long since forgotten. There is a reason why that person went searching for that particular subject in the first place. And it's a good way to dust off old ideas that might be useful to some, even if that's only a small number of site owners. Not everything we might still want has been built in to subsequent vB releases.
It can be annoying, sometimes (especially when the post that dredged up the old hack is pointless) ... and it can be real confusing. But that's why posts show the date and time in plain view. Instead of closing all the old threads ... maybe someone could rough out a quick template mod or hack using conditionals ... if year of post date =/< (the current year minus 2) then display waving-flag-gif-that-says: "oldie but goodie" or "retro" or "remember when" ... ? Give us a visual reminder to alert us and put the timeframe into better perspective. |
