Miscellaneous Hacks - Animated Notifications

Overview:

This product began as the result of a request to have a blinking new PM image like we have here at vBorg. However, I have expanded on that to include all of the vBulletin notification types, and some that result from third party products. You can also define your own custom notifications to work with this product (the .GIF icon needs to be put in the "images/misc" folder). You can define the order in which the alert icons will appear from left to right. The alert icons I have included are animated Skype smilies, and you can define the maximum height for these icons. The icons will appear to the left of the other toplinks element, but within the element itself. You can set whether the notifications being displayed with an icon are removed from the notifications menu, or you can decide to hide the notifications menu altogether (only recommended if you are sure you have all possible notifications displayed with an icon).

Compatibility:

Tested and working on VB 4.2.x and may work on all 4.x versions of vBulletin.

Backup/Warning:

This product does not alter the structure of your database, however it is always good practice to make regular backups and you should make a backup before installing ANY new mod.

To Install:

1. Download and extract the attached .zip file.
2. Upload the contents of the "upload" folder to your forum's root directory.
3. Follow AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product.
4. Click on "Choose File" and browse to the product .xml file that was packaged in the .zip file.
5. Click "Import."
6. You MUST enable the product in the settings before it will function.
7. Configure the remaining settings to your liking. Each setting has a detailed explanation of its use.

Nevermind, it was a silly mistake on my part! I had managed to put them in images/misc/misc >< It is working perfectly now, sorry!

Okay, glad you got it sorted out, and thank you for being conscientious enough to let me know. We all make mistakes, but so many are afraid to admit it.

No problem, mistakes are how we learn, right!

It's all working great now apart from mentions - I installed the updated version, running 4.2.5, and all other notifications are working. I only have 'mentions' acitivated on my forum, not tags or quotes, could that have anything to do with it?

To get support for mentions, you'll have to download version 1.1 from one of the sites listed in my signature.

hashtags would be really cool to add actually....since they are coded poorly to begin in dbtech prod, they could really benefit by having a notification like these others....

the custom notification adding section is a bit confusing to me tho, i got lost fast lol

I did! At least I'm fairly certain (that's how I found TAZ! ) but I guess it's possible I uploaded the wrong one - I'll double check and let you know if the issue persists.
