ooo I forgot about Expression Engine!! Yeah that is damn good! Even their commercial pricing is moderately priced for what it does.

I read at some point to that someone was writing a module for it to work with vb instead of their forum module also...

And honestly Joomla for what it does for for free isn't bad...but yeah everything you need to do with it costs you a fortune. I used it for a short time and am still paying for it...

If the print publishers can use Wordpress for their online magazine sites, it should prove more than capable.

The only "hacking" that is required is uploading a theme and setting the options for that theme.

In the end you should try them all and find the one that works for your needs. I personally prefer Wordpress at this time because it is very easy to work with and I have never had to hack the code. Install a few plugins here and there but never had to hack code. Drupal on the other hand was a coding nightmare from the beginning. Couldn't do much of anything without hacking the code or installing a couple dozen modules. Joomla provided little flexibility in the configuration of categories or taxonomy so was pretty wasteful in the long run. I'll admit that I haven't tried Expression Engine but it really doesn't interest me for my needs.

Yes. I am in the mindset of providing FOR clients.. It's not very practical to give clients a backend for Wordpress if you're using it as a CMS. That's where the hacking comes in, and that's where the mess comes in.

Of course if you're the only one who accesses it, you don't really need to hide certain things from yourself, so Wordpress could be used. I still recommend Expression Engine over WP, once you get it, it's amazing how flexible it truly is. You pretty much just handle data, any way you like.

I had decided to go with PHPCow, but now I am regretting that decision. I istalled it, went through all the installation process, said it was done succesfully, and now, I can't access it. It kept giving me a 404 error. There was absolutely NO HELP from PhpCow, so I uninstalled it, and went with the Articles forum here. (www.missouritalks.com) so far so good. It's a vbulletin that works as an article (or magazine) forum. Looks pretty neat. I'm just having to tweak it a little to fit my needs. Just wish I had seen this sooner. Oh well. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
