It's rumored that Google is in talks to buy Twitter...that will be the death of Twitter, not the other way around

@ s0lidgr0und - lmao, I agree 100% with your assessment of those systems

we are talking of a 10 year span, yes I agree, there's a space for all the tastes, but yes all systems got its lifespans...

So you're telling me that with the mobile technology and instant communication and videoconferencing vB is not receding little by little? or just a little...

p.s. is like living on denial 'we will never die', Nexy mentioned, on the digital world systems evolve, but BBS is technically dead :P

I think people are getting tired of the internet in general. It seems that this perceived bad economy is making people realize how important other aspects of our lives are and that spending quality time with our loved ones is back in fashion. All these interactive sites will continue for the young ones, but as they age, experience working for a living, maturing, they move on. Conversely, the engine of forums are need based, whether it's fun or for information and of all ages. I don't think a 40 year old man wants to exchange "gifts" on Facebook for any length of time or at all but they'll log into a forum for gaming or prostate cancer information. This is why forums will alway exist. Twitter and Facebook do not have the seqeuntial interactive abilty necessary to facility information based browsing. I find Facebook annoying as hell. I'm sorry I don't want to exchange virtual plants and animals when I'm looking for people or information.

I think the drive-through aspect of forum software will always remain appealing.

Gabby

Wow you almost convince me! but what I meant was:

Even a 80k metal car will expire in less than a decade and you will be playing with the idea of a new one...

we can declare 'even' if you want, we all got good points

p.s. What will not die is the hunger to communicate

Facebook is about connecting to your friends. vBulletin is about building communities with common interests. The two are often not the same at all.

I enjoy things my friends would laugh at me for, or hate, or be embarrassed by.

I don't personally think vBulletin will ever completely die off. It might lose some popularity due to the aspects mentioned (although to be fair, Facebook and Twitter the services are more likely to die than the concepts they're based on, similar software will probably now never completely die out even if said sites do), but vBulletin itself and traditional forums will always have their place. Saying it's ever going to completely die and go out of fashion for everyone is nearly as shallow and mistaken as the views that say, books will die out due to 'radio/TV/the internet'. Not saying vBulletin is as ifluential as a whole medium, but trust me, anything that's ever had popularity still has it's fans, sometimes even whole years after the company behind a product or series goes out of business or shuts down. I know of games being still explored and talked about even say, 20 years after release by a dedicated fanbase, and internet wise, look at Usenet, IRC and I think in some cases BBS systems which are still in use somewhere in the world albeit for a shrinking audience.

You mean for my post? vBulletin will not die out due to Twitter, Facebook and Qik, as it will always have at least some kind of userbase just like every other product, technique, medium and field of interest ever created.
