Hi there.

I really need to find a new hosting provider. To say my current provider is worthless would be flattering lol. Anyway, I'm looking for a VPS solution that can handle somewhere between 100-300 forum users logged on at a time. I did a lot of research on hostgator and the reviews seem to be glowing for the most part, but i've also read that they are pretty brutal about shutting people down without warning if too many people are logged on. They only support 25 simultaneous mysql connections. to be honest, i'm not 100% sure what that means in terms of users logged in/using the forum at the same time.

My forum is pretty popular...we have over 5,000 registered members and we get an average of 2,500-3000 "visits" or 216,000 "hits" a day. Bandwidth, however, isn't all that heavy. We only average around 30-40g a month.

Any suggestions? Thanks very much in advance.

try this surfspeedy.com found them quite reliable so far.the best thing i liked is there tech support,and they do pay attention.very helpfull better than go daddy,site ground,host gator and startlogic.I had some problems with my data base,others refuse to fix it but they did transfered for free and everything working fine so far.

thanks guys. well i think i've about settled on a managed dedicated server from hostgator. it has a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz and 1gb of RAM. think this will work for my needs?

u dont need dedicated server if u run Lighttpd or litespeed.

If you're fairly tech savvy and good at following tutorials I'd personally recommend slicehost. They offer "barebones" vps' at a great price and the community is active. You'd be surprised how much you can squeeze out of a vps that is not loaded down with cpanel etc. They offer a decent range of packages, worth a look.

I've been with Knownhost for just short of a year.

They've been great. They do VPS hosting, and they also have Hybrid Servers.

Perhaps one of their packages would fit your needs without the need to go to a full dedicated server.

You might want to check them out. The service is excellent and support email you back within minutes if you have a problem.
