Cut off, limit length of RSS2 feed?

I don't want to display the whole message as by "$post[message]" but just the first say 50 characters and/or maximum three URL or IMG codes.

I am using it on 3.6.3 and removed the <codes> part from the xml file which had the same effect. Works perfect for me, of course modifications are at your own risk. ;)
