when I open the "smilies" only a few of them appear. no where near all of them, or even the ones I have as default.

You need to do a search on vbulletin.org for template conditionals.

In firefox, this shoutbox does refresh. It blinks every 3 seconds. Is there a fix for that, or is that just something that people need to live with? Its pretty annoying when it does it. IE doesn't blink though. lol

basically, it works very well for me.

One question, i got some smiles saved in /images/vbshout/, how to change the default path for the vbshout smiles to the new path? so the users can use the smiles in the /images/vbshout/ folder.

I think you have misunderstood me. What I meant was able to change the height on the fly. That is if the user wants a larger display, then he/she can hit a button to say increase 100 pixels. Just like the vB3.5's Editing text area.

the shout position doesn't work for Below Forums and Below What's going on box. the shoutbox just disappears when I try them.

I don't notice any difference between below navbar and above forums....though that could be just cause I haven't move anything around.

It would probably save on resources, but bandwidth? Highly unlikely, it's only requesting a minimul amount of text, which on average would sum up to about 1/2kb, evern with a lot of users it would hardly make much of a difference.

But stopping requests during collapsing is a good idea :)

Looks like I worried too much then.:) The web log might be misleading:
"POST /vbshout.php HTTP/1.1" 200 13604

My web stat based on web log has bandwidth gone up a big notch. Web server load is so far so good, around 0.4 only. I changed the shout table type to "HEAP", so DB server will not be a problem.

Thank you. I've got around 60 emoticons. I've done everything from having only about 10-20, to having all of them showing. And no matter what I do, it most always displays duplicates in some capacity. Some times are much worse than others. I appreciate you fixing this. Thanks!

yahoo chatrooms have that option. i not sure how they script it but a easier way to do it would be flash but as far as the microphone and people in a chat its hard to keep that under control cause you always got someone who wants to be a ass.. and will just keep whoring the mic and either saying stupid stuff or just playing music through it all day which will mean others cant talk. the only way a mic is good is with private rooms usually. and if ya want a chat with a mic check out the plugin section theres a flash chat that is hosted by them and it allows video and mic through flash https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=93539

I'm afraid not, no. It doesn't auto prune shouts, you can do so by using the commands shown in the main post.

Possible but i'd think pointless, most forums allow upto 100 x 100 pixel avatars, or 65 x 65, cut down to 20 x 20 would leave a little square where you couldn't make out anything.

i checked the shoutbox i'm trying to have mine look a little more like, it's a 30x30 pixel picture. the thing is just, my site requires users to have their own avatar with their actual picture, since it's a community page. so that would be a good thing. could you help me with this? or should i start a new request in the modification forum?

im new to vBulletin and im trying to install the shoutbox:

Go to your ACP, then:
Plugin System -> Manage Products -> [Add/Import Product]
Select 'vbshout.xml' from your computer and then press 'Import'

where is the "plugin System? Somewhere in Admincp .. but i cant find it. Its not one of the main groups so plz make it easier to find, its noobs like me out there -_-
.. and this is just as annoying as when i tried to upload the first release of a vBulletin shoutbox i found through google, which asked me to install through the "/install" folder, which i had already deleted ofcourse. -_-

Good idea, but just to clean upa little (sorry, it's a habbit :p), change the plugin to:

And simply place the variable '$Shoutbox' in forumhome we're ever you'd like :)

What he said lol - yeah click on the shoutbox title [you'll notice it's now a hyperlink]. You can edit the shouts on that page using AJAX, like you'd edit a thread title on forumdisplay - with the exception of you click the edit box instead of double clicking.

I just redownloaded and the readme's say 1.5. Checked the file I used for install last night and it also says 1.5. It's just a case of ZT forgetting to change the readmes. Import the new XML file and upload the new vbshout.php and it'll work. :)

Don't you find the discret link to the archive page simple ? I do.

When some users can't connect forum during a short time, this archive page is great for them. It allow them to quick read old messages.

Personally I think this hack is going from strength to strength, also a prime example of the product system being used to it's potential. Like someone said up there, if you don't like the archive just use conditions for the hyperlink allowing only you to know the link [not an ideal solution - but if your users get in via a URL they figure out why not let them] - makes your life of editing much easier.

Ok, a quick fix. With vbshout.php, around line 63, find:
$TS = vb_number_format($TS['ts']);

Replace it with:
$TS = $TS['ts'];

A even better way is to have different Topics under different parent forums and display all the shouts at the main page.

I also suggest to change the `s_shout` and `s_data` field type from 'text' to 'CHAR 255'. It could become a problem if something has one of the keyboard keys stuck.

problem with the shoutbox.

i did everything that was requested to install the hack everything went fine and everything worked perfectly until yesterday and i dont know what happened but every time that someone post a message on the shoutbox it doesnt come up anymore it looks like has been posted but does not show up on the shoutbox all the permissions are fine and as far as i know i followed every single step given to install this hack.

Anyone had this problem before or how can i repair this problem! (many thanks to everyone in advanced)

Love the hack. The bug with listing news shouts from the bottom up....seems to working with new version.

Howver, my shoutbox still DISAPPEARS when I choose to put to "below the forums" or "below the What going on?".

any ideas what the problem could be.

any clues as to where to go to manually put it down there? (if it doesn't get fixed).

I've never noticed a performance hit on my website with it collapsed. It may still load it, but as long as its collapsed, anytime they visit the site, it will remain collapsed.

But that duplicate smiley issue REALLY needs to be fixed. Otherwise, its a neat little box!

It's really good. My users absolutely love it.

Mainly I would just want it on a seperate page than the homepage and have a "users in the chat" on the homepage.

But I believe the AJAX part is what people like about it.

I have problem in Firefox (1.0.6)... here is how shoutbox is shown when you open forum:

And when you press "refresh" it gets normal.

I've recently had a spate of member asking what all the number were for in the colour selction pull down.. now if you're reading this, then you'll know what they are, but for a normal member they are confusing, so i did a litle mod... It removes all text and replces it with a bar of colour...

ZT, there's a bug with the AJAX edit feature.

When I try to edit something that has a an apostrophe, it doesn't show the whole thing in the window.

i only have one problem with this.... whenever a long shout is posted rather than wrapping the text over 2 lines it forces a scroll bar to appear.. how can i make it wrap on to 2 lines??

Is anyone even supporting this anymore?
i am sure he is supporting it but as in any free hack you have to wait for the hacker to have spair time. if ya dont know zt scott is running inferno and since thats got paid members who want new features and stuff like that i am sure most of his time is going into the new version of that. when he has time i am sure he will get to any bugs hes missed in the meantime.

If you want to have shoutbox on all forumdisplay pages:

1) Change the hook location for 'vBShout [Template Alteration]' to: forumdisplay_complete

2) Edit the plugin code for 'vBShout [Template Alteration]'

Find: '$vbulletin->templatecache['FORUMHOME'] = str_replace($Position, $Position . ' $Shoutbox', $vbulletin->templatecache['FORUMHOME']);'

Replace it with:

$vbulletin->templatecache['FORUMDISPLAY'] = str_replace('$navbar', '$navbar' . ' $Shoutbox', $vbulletin->templatecache['FORUMDISPLAY']);

This is a quick and dirty hack. The shoutbox will only show up under navbar!

3) If you want the shoutbox to show up only in certain forums:

a. add
if ($forumid ==13)
{

In the beginning of the above plugin. 13 is the forum ID you want the shoutbox to show.

b. add
}

in the end of the code.

The conditional doesn't work for me.

Got this installed, works great. Would like to change the font size, make it a bit smaller. Is there a way of doing this? I have seen this asked before in this tread, but i haven't seen an answer.

The tablewidth thing appears to be temperamental. Looks fine at the moment. The feature screwed up my category colours once or twice though that was fine after a reboot so maybe it was a browser thing.

There is no problem to hide the Shoutbox,

but I want "Can wiew Shoutbox, but not messages" for some usergroups.

Is there no way to do that without error?

Restrict it by usergroups in the admincp. I did, that's how I did it so that only those who are registed can see it or post in it. Liz
