Hello,
Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately restricting it by usergroup will not be adequate in this situation.
Im attempting to discourage members from spending hours chatting via the shoutbox because it means that they are not posting on the forum! I don't want to have to remove the shoutbox although it is looking like this is the only option.
I suppose that i could create a new usergroup which has access to the shoutbox and manually transfer the members who meet the requirements into this group. This would do the job although it would be time consuming.
Does anybody else have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Zelda-King

I've noticed when I use the /me command, my username isn't indicated with the datestamp. (Of course, it shows in the shout...) Is this normal?

ZT, there's a bug with the AJAX edit feature.
When I try to edit something that has a an apostrophe, it doesn't show the whole thing in the window.
I confirm the problem.

99% of users have no problem. A couple users have the issue with "Loading" appearing in the box but it doesn't load and when they input into the text field and hit enter, they get a white page. I don't know why only a couple users have this problem, perhaps it's a java version problem?
Thanks for the hack, BTW. For 99% of my users it works great and they love it.

I Agree!
There is only one problem:
I want "Can wiew Shoutbox, but not messages" for some usergroups.
"15Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /vbshout.php on line 288"
I don?t want to hide vBShout, just don?t let them write.
over a sure number of messages ( 800/900)
the archive not work... only last 10 are visible
i have erased 250 shout and it work.... is correct? Or is 1 bug?

No, there are two problems, the one you describe and the apostrophe edit problem. Just try and you will see.

I haven't tried the other prune commands but /pruneshout [shout] doesn't appear to do anything. I assume you're meant to quote the whole shout between the []? Because that's what I did.

Trying to ban ccertain usergroups from seeing the messages in the shoutbox, for banned permissions I have set it to can view shoutbox, but not messages,
and have added the usergroup id number into the banned usergroup box. Now for those people they see the shoutbox but with this warning.
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /vbshout.php on line 288
I am using vB 3.5.0 RC3

I have a safari user or two complaining of the size of the shoutbox. Here's a thumbnail attached to show what I mean:

Strange - would you mind taking a look at my site and telling me what you see? I don't have access to Safari, myself: http://forum.opiophile.org/index.phpI have no problems on my site with the shoutbox viewing it directly in latest Safari...thanks...!
Sorry to re-post, but is it possable to get a smaller font size? And if so, how?
Thanks for any help.
Anyway to have these shouts count as a post? And add to the user's post count??
I'm wondering why one would need a pruneshout command then, when you can just go to the archive and use the delete option. So... I figured these were actual shoutbox commands as I know /me is.
Its easier than deleting one at a time.

This is a great addition, my members love it. Question though, is there a way (in the next update) allow it to play a sound when someone posts in the main forum) so that if you've gone to another page you (and your main forum is still up) you could hear when someone's sent a shout?
just a thought.

Whenever someone is viewing the forum home page (/forums/index.php), Who's Online says they're "The Shoutbox". The link in this case for shoutbox is to forums/index.php.
If they are actually in the shoutbox (on /forums/vbshout.php), everything is correct (the link is to /forums/vbshout.php).
This is a fresh install on a clean 3.5.0 (gold) board.

yeah your gonna have an extremely high rate since your forum has a massive amount of users constantly on. i checked your forum and you got a good amount of people so you figure at least 50% are refreshing the home page every few minutes, and would cause major strain

There's a "b" missing in the word "shoutbox".. EDIT: I MADE IT BOLD SO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.. Guess the coder didn't see that either..
anyways I removed the auto update thing because it was updating every 10 seconds..
On my site that means 900 / 10 = 90 request per second which is a lot..
So if you have a big board I suggest you put a refresh button on their and remove automatic refreshes

anybody?
Boofo - You sure you uploaded the new vbshout.php?
Blam - Uhm, i'll look into it :p
whitetigergrowl - It just randomly selects emoticons, if you have a decent amount it shouldn't display duplictayes, but if you have only a small handful it is likely it will. I'll force it to bypass this in the future so duplicate ones are not shown :)
- Zero Tolerance
i don't have [edit][delete][add settings] when i go to vbshout options in the general options control panel
Is anyone even supporting this anymore?
Whenever someone is viewing the forum home page (/forums/index.php), Who's Online says they're "The Shoutbox". The link in this case for shoutbox is to forums/index.php.
If they are actually in the shoutbox (on /forums/vbshout.php), everything is correct (the link is to /forums/vbshout.php).

I have looked into the issue with the Who's Online location error, and have come to the following conclusions.
There is nothing wrong with the code in the plugins from this hack that report the WOL locations. I have a few other hacks that include their own custom PHP files, and they all have plugins to the WOL system, and they all work fine. I've compared their WOL plugins to the WOL plugins from this hack, and aside from the filename and the text of the message, they are identical. The only difference between those hacks and this one is that this one actually has output from its external PHP file (vbshout.php) appear on the index.php page. The problem is that when you are on index.php, the WOL system thinks you are on vbshout.php, thus the plugin from this hack for WOL becomes active. So the only way to fix this problem, as far as I can figure out, is to find a way for index.php to make sure the WOL system knows it is index.php and not vbshout.php. I'll see what I can figure out.
WORKS GREAT

It's working fine for me, but I thought I'd note the following (I assume it's the same in all versions):
If you send a message before it's finished loading, you're unable to send any more messages, and things screw up. It should be disabled until it's ready.
Thank you for the info. I'll just wait for the next version then.

i have a small problem,, well actually 2, but the new one is this
www.locoforum.com i removed the code in forumhome_vbshout that took off the time,
i got the code form this thread,, if you don't know what i'm talking abotu i can get the post..
anyways if you look at my site, there is a space in between the users name and the shout..
how can i fix this ?
and my 2nd problem has been addressedwith no answer from my searching,
but how can we fix the who's online bug ?
it always says users are on the shoutbox.. and now it really does that i added vbshout to the portal page..
thx for the mod, and hopefully thx for some answers :)
-LM
*edit* i see a user with a longer name then mine posted on the shoutbox..
his post has now space..
would this cause all the rest of the post to be pushed out ?

It took me forever to workout how to access the shoutbox archive and stats section.
For a while I was under the assumption that feature did not exist.
The link to it looks just like a plain heading, how about making a more obvious link?

A member of my forums has pointed out that this hack does not work with the Ignore feature. That is, he is ignoring a member, and can't see any of his posts, but he can see his shouts.
I mention this for informational purposes. I've come to realize that none of us should expect to get any more help with this hack from its author. As far as I can tell, Zero Tolerance hasn't posted in this thread since August 27, and the "support" checkbox is not ticked. I guess we can help each other, but it'd be nice to get help from the guy who should know this hack better than anyone else.

I know sometimes coders pick up abandoned projects. Would it be possible for somebody to do this (and would you please :) ). On top of the issue above, I'd really like to see a feature that would allow you to see "select" smiles, or maybe an option to show "all" or something like that. I also notice that the "random" option will quite often show the same smile 2 or 3 times sometimes.
It's an excellent shoutbox, and I'm happy with what I/we have, but those fixes/options would make it just that much more sweeter.

I don't think I'm capable of taking over this hack. I wrote some pretty big hacks for vBulletin 2.0, like the original Weather hack and one of the early XML-news-parsing hacks, and some other smaller stuff. But I got out of it for a while, and I've only just recently gotten back into things. I'm starting off small and learning the new stuff and re-learning the old stuff. I don't know anything about how AJAX works, and that's a major part of this hack. I don't have any idea how to fix the major issue I'm complaining about, which is the inaccurate Who's Online. The smilies issue is probably pretty easy. But I'd feel more comfortable getting permission from Zero Tolerance first. Maybe I'll PM him and see if he has any intention of supporting this hack, what he thinks about someone else taking over, or maybe he's working on a new version of something. We'll see...

I know he released revised versions of a couple of his MODs today (Don't remember which, but I just remember his name). Anyway hopefully he'll update this puppy as well. In any case, I sure hope one way or another, this mod goes on, and at least somebody can support it/release bug fixes.
Like I said, even if it didn't get fixed, it's still excellent!
And JJR512: I wasn't meaning you specifically. Just any coder that is familiar with this stuff, and would be willing to at least attempt to get permission from ZT. Hopefully ZT will come back and there's no need for somebody to take over and get permission :)

The WOL issue has been discussed here, especially by myself, and by Fleabag in his add-on of this hack to vBadvanced CMPS thread. There is no known solution for this issue yet. It may be possible, aparently, that the issue isn't with this vBshout per se, but is an underlying fundamental problem with the way vBulletin itself determines where you are.

Really like this shout box, had to uninstall it due to view errors when resizing a window in firefox, the table/cell would stay at a fixed width while the rest of the page would resize properly, or not resize at all and the page would remain at full width(width it was loaded at) until page refresh.
If there is a way to fix it, I would love to use it.

Anyway to disable [IMG] and maybe [QUOTE] codes from just the shoutbox but enable Vbcode, or just disable vbcode and enable smilies.
Also when you disable Vbcode and Smilies the censorship filter in the shoutbox also disables.

I entered 1,3,5 - Unregistered / Not Logged In, Users Awaiting Email Confirmation and (COPPA) Users Awaiting Moderation - but as it turns out, if you're not logged in, you can't post anyway, so does this come under the classification of a conflict issue?
Found it, must be an issue with the setting for the options, you can only set it to 'Can view shoutbox and messages' or 'Cannot view shoutbox' - the last one 'Can view shoutbox, but not messages' throws back the error ... works fine now after changing from that option :D

Have the same issue on my site. My whole right block gets moved over and that adds the scroll bar on the bottom of the page. Once I hit F5, it goes back to normal.
Can't figure out how to fix that. For the time being I disabled it. Only happens with Firefox.

One thing I noticed is that it loads all the smilies each time your forumhome is loaded.
I had it setup to load ALL my smilies, not just random ones. For some reason, it was loading 150 graphics on my forumhome.
This is fine on a high speed connection, but it caused it to load slow on lower-end connections. Plus, its a waste of bandwidth if someone never clicks on the smiley link.
So for now, I have the smiley button disabled.

Ive looked around for the answer to this but cant see anything so sorry if this has already been asked - but is there a way to remove the Today bit from the time stamp ? I found my way into the .php file and removed a line from there - at first it seemed to have worked - the time stamp was just [11:45pm] or whatever - but when I tried to post a message in the shoutbox it didnt post anything and on trying to post another message it came back saying posting in progress... obviously Id done something wrong :(
any ideas anyone - on how to remove the Today part ?

Ug. There is a permission problem with the shoutbox ZT.
Anyone with moderator abilities (not even just the moderator user category but even those who are moderators in on specified area) can edit everyone's shouts.
This sounds like a limited problem but I'm also using the "everyone can have their private message area" hack... which then makes everyone moderators in their own areas. Is there any way to make this so that only Admins can edit shouts?

I have an interesting idea for saving bandwidth on the shout box.
Idle throttling, so the longer a person does not type in a shoutbox, the longer the delay between refreshes are, capped at some value still, but it would help for those who may leave an index page open and goto work or something.
Adding the shoutbox added alot of bandwidth usage to my site, so I was thinking on howto reduce it. What do you think Zero?

Also when you look in "Current Active Users" those who are viewing the main forum index page changes to Viewing Shoutbox. That's not quite right.

think youll find its a safari issue, and as such, cant see much support for it to be solved..
IE is the browser this works perfectly with...not safari, not firebobbins, or any other...lol

FYI:
If you collapse then expand the shoutbox, it resizes and eliminates the column width issue reported earlier. I'm having a look at the template to see if I can tweak it to eliminate that.
Excellent work, ZT. Easy install, works great.

Well, I'm not sure what happened, but it was fine for a couple weeks, then BOOM! it stopped working. "Loading..." will sit there or shouts don't appear, etc. Had to disable the product :(
Is there a way to put it on a page that's not the forum index? I love the mod...it just eats up bandwidth when guests, etc view it :(

Disable it for guests, Users Awaiting Email Confimation, etc. That way only a small percentage of whoever's viewing the site is affecting your bandwidth.

I suggest you to change Shoutbox look. I would like to see something like this in the next version:
http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/6297/shoutbox2mf.gif
What do you think about this guys?
P.S.: This picture was Photoshop-ed.
that looks cool mate ... Id like to see that right stuff collapsable on its own - so we can chose to minimise that stuff outt he way to make more room for the shouts.

I too have done this for my site ... go to your 'usergroups' - 'usergroups manager' in your admincp .... then make a note of the group numbers you dont want to view the shoutbox...
ie - unregistered/not logged in - id:1
then go to your vbshout settings in 'vbulletin options' - 'vbshout options' and in the sections called 'Banned Usergroups' add the id of the groups you wanna ban from the boards. ie - 1
if you have numerous groups you dont want to use the shoutbox put there all these numbers in separated with a comma... ie - 1,4,7 then Id suggest you change the next option 'Banned Permissions' to 'can not view shoutbox'.

My users are reporting that recently, in the last few days, they are being forced to refresh after each shout they make. While this doesnt effect all users (nor me) it is a problem. They are using Firefox and IE, and it used to work fine for them and all of a sudden they all began to experiance the same problem.
It works fine for me in Firefox, so its not a browser related issue.

The style we're using doesn't lend itself to using a shoutbox at the top. And I don't know if it was ZT's hack or not when we were using it.
This is such a good hack!!!
Is it possible to keep a history of all shouts?
If not, would that be possible in a future version? ;-)

this is a result of the ban you did .... try setting the option under the ban so that banned users cant see the shoutbox at all rather than being able to see it but just not being able to shout in it.

Great Hack thx, installed and nearly working fine.
2 Problems though.
Graphics like smilies are not showing, images ( img code ) are not shown only urls are working. Even though everything is set properly.
The reload of the shoutbox is far too often and brings up the traffic...how can i reduce the reloads? Esp. in firefox it is also looking anoying with every reload, its like a flackering of the monitor but only in the box.
ah, one thing else, when pruned via "/prune" all numbers of counters/shouts of the users ( who shouted are deleted as well.
Is there a possibility that those counts are remainung even after the shouts have been deleted?
Thx for any help!
Edit: 21.33
I found out how to work the smilies and graphics, but in myopinion its not good to make it the same variable as signature, now my users can use smilies and grpahics in their signatures what i have never allowed...

Sorry, Wolfgang..... this is how often it reloads and the number is seconds in 1000ths of a second... thus...
1000 = reloads every second
10000 = Every 10 Seconds (the default number)
30000 = Every 30 Seconds
60000 = Every min
Hope this is clearer..

Almost there... but you have left the /s next to the values....
setTimeout('requestShouts()', 60000)
Should look like that.... for a reload every min...
setTimeout('requestShouts()', 120000)
And like that for 2 mins... ok
Just change the value in the line...
setTimeout('requestShouts()', 10000)

Right then.... Aeolian... here goes...
I didn't go about finding how to change the default colour... that was way too annoying... but you can easily limit the colurs your members have a choice of...
Open "Plugin System" > "Plugin Manager" > "vBShout [Template Alteration]"
Find this section >>
$hex = array();
$hex[] = '0';
$hex[] = '3';
$hex[] = '6';
$hex[] = '9';
$hex[] = 'C';
$hex[] = 'F';
for ($a = 0; $a < 6; $a++)
{
for ($b = 0; $b < 6; $b++)
{
for ($c = 0; $c < 6; $c++)
{
$Options_DropDown['color_selector'][] = '#' . $hex[$a].$hex[$a].$hex[$b].$hex[$b].$hex[$c].$hex[$c];
}
}
}
Replace it with >>>$Options_DropDown['color_selector'][] = '#00FF00';
$Options_DropDown['color_selector'][] = '#FF0000';
$Options_DropDown['color_selector'][] = '#0000FF';
You can add, change or delete the values in the replace section to your requirements... They will appear in the order that you have them listed..
Go here Colour Picker (http://colors.tomaweb.com/), to find values for hex colours..
Also... I did a small hack in the same template a while back that displays the colour in the list instead of the colour hash values...
