I tried them both...finally gave up...found 2.1 at vbHackers, after searching through numerous threads for hours, uninstalled 2.0, installed 2.1.:o Which I should've done in the first place, but I didn't wanna give up the timestamp...then I found the fix. Happy now.:D

What do you mean with /prune?
I just de-installed the add-on hack and put everything back to original. Problem is still there. Some users can use the shout, and others put in text, click on the shout button and nothing happens.

They have java installed, several browsers tested, nothing.

A 2.1 version on vbhackers is newer then a v3 fixed version here on vborg?
Same I did not get my question answered at vbhackers either. So I'm still not happy.

I apologize...I must've misunderstood you. I just un-installed 2.0, and installed 2.1...I like it. But I'm with you on the support issue. Shazz (vbCoderz) has given me more support than the entire place here or vbHackers! OH, AND he's nice about it!

Normally I don't have a problem with getting support on vb.org. Like Blaine0002's hacks are supported very good by him.
I'm happy with the fact the at vb.org they close hacks and send a message when a vulnarability is found which is not fixed and they give some vbulletin support too. Do they do that at vbCoderz too?

I presume the coder does not know what causes my problem with vbshout. Sometimes coders say nothing, but it would already be fine if they state that they read the problem, are thinking about it, will fix it later on or something like that.

I'd hafta say yes, considering vbCoderz is a tiny place, which IMO is a good thing!

If you do check out vbHackers, beware! It seems everybody and their brother has solutions to the 'bugs'...especially the timestamp bug! Just found a good solution at vbCoderz, but I'm waiting on an answer from Shazz before I install that one.

Does anyone know how to change the typebox to a different color? In the screenshots (3rd pic) the typebox matches the skin looks like. I have a white box that stands out. I went to vbshout template and in the box i tried this :

My problem is fixed, stupid error, mixed up usergroep id's in the list of banned usergroups for vbshout.
Pity though that there is a bug in the addon for VBA because I rather would have the shoutbox on the right side.

In that one the shouts are being written to an HTML flat file on the server, whereas this one is being written to the database. 2.1 would use up a lot less resources. The only downside with it is no timestamp.

Yes, because of the use of the flatfile system rather than the database that is the way it works. If you do not want that you could optionally remove the time stamp all together.

Write /prune in shoutbox and it will delete ALL shouts. :)


Although I prefer this autoprune script, which will delete old shouts every day (cron based). I've set it to delete older shouts than 48h. :)

Just download the attached file and put in the /includes/cron directory.
Then make a new scheduled task (see attached jpg).
I run it every night at 3 o clock but offcourse your free to run it more often than that.

What is does: It will delete all shouts that are older than 24 hours.
This way you will allways have an archive that's holds no shouts that are older than two days.
You can alter the deletion time in the php by altering the "(TIMENOW - (60 * 60 * 24)" statement.

Enjoy :)

Ok, I have spotted something, when in IE you can scroll in the shoutbox using the scrollwheel, whereas in firefox you cannot, sounds like its a firefox issue to me though

I can vouch for this. The scroll bar in firefox and internet explorer keeps returning to the bottom of the window and it's annoying. Anyone know how to fix this?

Found a bug, say you have a shoutl like this:
/pruneshout [testing]

After that you enable the command mode.
Now try and delete this shout with the pruneshout command. It won't work.

Suggestion for the future: Prune possibility by username, but not ALL shouts made by this username but just the last one.

There is a flatline version which cuts down on the load ALLOT. The site was already suggested as to where you get it. There are differences read the WHOLE thread to get all your features back. Good luck. This mod is awesome if your host can handle it.


Also note the STAFF updates which I guess you read when you downloaded the addon?

I've uploaded a new version of this hack, dubbed '2.0.2'. This one should fix the html injection issues without breaking special characters. To upgrade, download the new zip file and upload the new vbshout.php file.

Please note that this only fixes the html injection issues. I do not use this hack on my own forum (although I've tested this on a client's board) so I will not be fixing the server load issues. I suggest you do not install this hack if you can't deal with the extra server load, as it's rather intensive.

Hi there, I have been having a few problems with the shoutbox where on some occasions the message box to type the shout disappears as if you are either banned or are part of a usergroup that is not allowed to use the shoutbox.

Ok, I just searched for "external" and it didn't yield results I'm looking for.

Now my question is, if I wanted to have the shoutbox on the main page (which isn't running CPMS or VB) is that even possible?

If so, how would I go about doing this? I know I'd have to allow guests and non-registered members the ability to post unless it stored their l/p in a cookie for the domain. But is it possible to have it remotely linked on the main domain seperate?

Using the search feature in this thread/site can solve many questions that you might have.
For removing shouts click on the shoutbox name itself above the shoutbox which will take you to the vbshout archive

I too have this issue.

I have followed the instructions to install the product, the vbshout.php is loaded in my forum root folder which I cannot chmod to 777 as I just get a white error page.

I too have this issue.

I have followed the instructions to install the product, the vbshout.php is loaded in my forum root folder which I cannot chmod to 777 as I just get a white error page.

Am running vbulletin 3.6.5

Go to your webserver files under forum root, if you find a folder called vbshout, inside the folder will be vbshout.php. Remove the vbshout.php file and put it in your forum root delete the folder vbshout. Open your forum home and it should work now.

First off you probably are not experiencing the same problem as I just encountered the loading issue, and it was because the php file was in a folder and not in the forum root. If this is not your problem then explain what is the exact problem without the quote of the other post. Is ajax enabled on your board

I've installed this and it works fine and is very popular with my forum users.

However, I have one user who cannot see it at all.

He is part of the same usergroups as users who can see it and I can't work out why it is not showing up for him, and him alone.

When I installed vbshout2.0 on vb3.6.5 a little problem arose with the PMs. When you click on a PM to open it a blank page is displayed. If I disable vbshout in Manage Products the PMs work fine again. Anyone experienced this or have any idea how to fix it?

Addition: I should have mentioned that I have installed the "vbshout 2.0 in one forum only" hack.

Hi-

I installed this hack about 3 weeks ago. It was on one page, and some members were requesting to have it on all pages. i installed the hack to put it on all pages. Works great, except for now some of my users are experiencing blank or white pages when attempting to read any PM's .. When i disable the vbshout, the PM problem goes away. When I re-enable it, the problem returns.

Does anyone know what the problem may be? Or has anyone else had this problem? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Sorry for the duplicate problem posting. galey801 and I having exact same problem, and my environment is same as galey801's is, except if i read it right, galey801 hasn't installed the vbshout on all pages hack. That tells me a lil more as that was my next test to see if it is the vbshout hack, or the shout on all pages causing the issue. thanx. jj:(

That's what I hate about add-ons is if you want to uninstall them you can't. Problems crop up.

Well, if you are looking for a similiar hack that is supported might I suggest one of these three. All three by very good coders, and very well supported, and maintained thus far. The choice in which one is best for you depends on the features you need. Personally, I use the MGC Chatbox and it does everything I need, and more, and very light on resources. But, maybe one of the others works betteer for you, so I suggest you compare each one and try it out.

the lads on the forum liked the time stamps and the 1 min ago part, they can live without the how long ago, but a working time stamp per zone is a must, and the use of forum smilies is a bonus i would like to keep, i did download MGC but i have not as of yet installed as it still looks work in progress with all the updates.

MGC is a great product. It's not complete, because he's adding functionality. There are very few, if any, bug fixes. I have not had a problem with it as far as from the bug aspect. In my forum it works as it should.

give up on this unsupported mod and install MCG shoutbox, you set usergroup permissions for the /team tag, and then admins can chat to each other.

Two questions....

1. How do you turn off the timestamp?
2. In my vbadvanced module my vbshout appears to be in essentially 3 columns...
[ timestamp ] [ user who shouted ] [ shout text ]

This makes my shouts really skinny and off to the right. How do I make them all in one column so the wrap under themselves?

Please take note that the default flat version takes away time stamps and a few other details that this shoutbox has now.

a.) Have the names of the shouter underlined and bolded; and
b.) Have the time of the shout displayed in the shoutbox itself (without having to click the word shoutbox in order to find this information out)?

However, there are two issues:

1) I'm having the special characters/quote problem as well, has that been solved yet?

2) My forum users with MACs say that it doesn't scroll properly for them, have other MAC users reported the same problem?
