Post Thank You Hack 4.5

About this hack:
One of the biggest problems on forums as you may know is 'posts boosting'. There are users who LOVE to say 'thanks' when ever they can. How can it hurt? Their post count goes up, they have nothing to loose.

There are also users who really like to express their thanks to post but don't like posting a post that looks like they're post boosting.

Then comes the moderators who have to delete people's thanks yous so a thread can look readable with out the thanks yous thrown around.

Finally comes the posters of these useful posts. They have no idea how many people really likes their posts if only some people say 'thanks'.

What this hack does is fix ALL these problems - except those users who like post boosting. This places a button called 'thanks.' When a user clicks on it, it places his username in a box right under the post saying that so-and-so says 'thanks' for the post. Every-one who clicks is placed in one box.

By giving your users the extra feature, you forum will look allot nice and organized. It is a granted liking by ALL the members of your forum.

I do plan to make a modual for the vBadvanced CMPS portal. Maybe even an add on for the statistics hack.

I will be looking into admin deleting one thanks at a time.

Sorry Abe .. couldn't get into my admincp after receiving the error message and had to use the unplug.php to disable plugins and then deleted it.

I would have to see the exact error. Did you try importing it twice? I recommend just wait until I come out with the version for vb35rc1.

Anyone who installed the version 2.0b1, uninstall the hack while you are still using vb3.5b4. You can keep the template changes. Upgrade vb then follow the instructions in the zip.

Everyone sees them. They blend in with the posts so it doesn't disrupt anything.

Yes. It does a clean install. What I recommend is upgade your forum, dont worry about this hack. All data is stored. One vbGold is released I should release an update. All previus thanks will still be around.

i have a problem, really want to use this 3.5 Thank hack in conjunction to the uCash modification. I set ALL setting correct so that when a user gives THANKS, it will increase the thanked users reputation. That works however, when I set the uCash give reputation and recieved user gain point also, it will not give any cash. It will however give cash if reputation is given the normal way. Is there anyway to fix this, or better yet add a piece of code for me so when a user gets thanks, they get one point of uCash instead of going though reputation?

I would like to keep track of which users get access to the hidden info, but the hack I linked to above adds lots of useless replies, so I think adding something like that to this hack would be a more elegant solution.

Hmmm.... This seems like a vB error. It should check to see if settings are in already. The settings are being added using the xml style. Try to remove the settings from the xml and re-upload.

the 2 errors are from having it installed on 3.0X then upgrading to 3.5 if you had this installed on previous board and did upgrade run the queries in abes last post and you will have no problem works great!!

Yes. You will have no errors installing it. The errors you see are from upgrading from vb3.0 to vb3.5 and they were resolved even.

Ahh, found the error I think. When I save the thanks code in default template, the childs are not being updated as they should. A few of the postbit templates are missing the thanks code.

Guess I have to edit all my styles 1 by 1 instead..

Hi Abe. We installed this on a brand new 3.5 gold and now we are recieving this error whenever a post is made:

We looked on the server and the file named functions_newpost.php does appear to be there. How should we correct this? Thanks.

You mostlikely upgraded from a pre 1.10 version to version 2.0. Version 1.10 stared using threadid's to pull thanks and not post id's. A new column was created then and the upgrade script updated all thanks in include the thread id's. I dont have an upgrade script from that time. I recommend uninstall then re-install.

when a regular user thanks a person.. and i have the settings to give the thanked person +1 rep, well, a regular user can choose the "remove your thanks" option and then thank again and then remove then thank. Then the person keep on getting +1 rep (it also +1 post for every thanks that person gives if that option is on)... might wanna fix that?

I went over the entire install a few times and made sure the button was uploaded - have the plugin enabled and went into vboptions admin and made sure it was on and nothing? I am not looking at posts that I made - so that is not it?

My error is strangely different.. I am getting the thanks box directly under the expanded thread view, and then multiple thanks boxes...

Please advise... also... where would I change the font for the text, and what if I did not want the thanks to be removed.. is there a simple modification for that?

Ok. correcting the code fixed the location issue... still, I am interested in disabling the 'remove thanks' link. Is it possible to change the code slightly to disable this? Once thanked I do not desire for the thanks to be removed.

You can delete the option in the template. Go to your templates and edit the post_thanks ones removing that option.

Great Hack!!

But there's one Problem... the option to turn the Hack in specific Forums off is for our purposes senseless.
We want to turn the hack only in some Forums on and not off.
Otherwise we have to exclude 200 Forum IDs.....

Do you have an Idea?

Can you make this go through the usual reputation process (i.e. reputation_add_process) so that reputation rules are followed as well as code from other plugins run as well (such as uCash)

If it's YOUR post, or you ALREADY thanked a post, you wont see the 'thanks' button.

I implemented by adding 2 new hooks to the hack. One for the postbit and one for the member info page. It will be in next version's release. I want to first see if I'll be adding any of these other requests right now.

It uses the forum's defaut settings to see howit should format the number.

A little reminder to new people that are installing this and having problem. Go to your ACP>Plugin System>Manage Product. Then disable "Post Thank You Hack" and enable it. This will allowed your postbit and postbit legacy to start working.

vb_number_format should be used for display only. If any calclations are to be done with the data then a unformated version must be used or you get lot's of incorect results.

The way to select it from DB is (inside of a query):
IF(visible = 2, 1, 0) AS isdeleted
If $thread['isdeleted'] == 1, then the thread is soft deleted.
Just saying in case it helps :)

EDIT:
Actually, since you are hooking into the showthread itself, $thread['isdeleted'] is already there. Just use it.
