No ideas... the install has worked perfectly for me each time. I suggest heading over to vbadvanced.com -- Brian is a nice dude and does offer support, but he is also very busy, and obviously checks his forum more often than this place.

I have this portal installed, and have the left sidebar appearing on the forums home page... but I noticed if you add too many modules to the left or right columns it also appears in on the forum home page in the

"New posts No new posts A closed forum"

legend at the bottom of the page.

Is there a fix for this? (other then keeping anything that appears there on the left side so it doesn't appear in the legend)

Great portal from what I've seen. I've installed it (my forums site is at www.gamehub.co.uk (http://www.gamehub.co.uk/)), but when I ran the install script, I got this error:

Just looked at your site, and you have your forums installed on your website homepage, not sure if that's why you're getting the error. But I would assume you can't install a portal which is going to use your website index page when you're already using it for your forums. Move your forums into a subfolder like it is set up here on vbulletin.org.

( Make your forums appear in www.gamehub.co.uk/forums instead of www.gamehub.co.uk )

Don't know if that'll fix the error, but you ain't installin this portal (or any other portal for that matter) with your forums on the page it uses for the portal.

If you mean that you wish to create a portal module to display on the front page, you would have to create a template and a module to display it on the front page... Once you get the hang of it, which is very quickly, you can pump out modules in a matter of secondes. I am not expert but I am using vBadvanced CMPS
here (http://www.ravensrealm.net) and if I can do it anyone can do it.

Small problem here, when I set to require to login before viewing threads, and of course when people reachs file cmps_index.php (outside the forum root) the vbulletin message would come up and says "must login..." and shame on it, the login.php isn't even exist outside forum root :ermm: Any suggestion?

On the frontpage of my vBadvanced CMS I have 3 latest news blocks (centered) with news from forumid2. Under those blocks I have the newsarchives named 'news: last 10' (pointed to forumid2).

But I also have a forum with reviews only (forumid3). I don't need to have them on the frontpage as newsitems, but I do want a newsarchive (pointed to forumid3).

This way I will have:
- 3 newsblocks (taken from forumid2)
- 1 block with 'last 10 newsarticles' (archive pointed to forumid2)
- 1 block with 'last 10 reviews' (archive pointed to forumid3).

I saw exactly what I need on this site (www.gzhq.net), but can't find the options in vBadvanced. So my question is: how do I show more archives?

I'm on 3.0.3 and it works fine for me, except for that one error. But I'm hoping that's something I did and is an easy fix for someone who knows this hack a bit better than I do.

Probably the only thing I don't like about this portal is that adding modules isn't as user friendly as some others I've seen, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I've run into the same problem, and I have triple checked as well.

Now, I suppose it is Dreamweaver (which I am using) that is coursing the problem. In short, Dreamweaver corrupts the functions.php file.

Instead of editing the file in Dreamweaver, I have edited the functions.php file in notepad. I cut the content of the file into notepad, changed the required line, and pasted the (new) content back to the functions.php file.
Made sure that everything was ok, saved the functions.php file and uploaded it (again).

The problem is recurring.

This is what happens:

This is problem that seems to be pretty frequent for a lot of us. Could someone please give a clear answer to solve the problem. Or is the portal software simply incompatible with Dreamweaver?

A good rule of thumb is to edit the php files in text-only editors. That way, there is no chance of any type of corruption. The more bare-bone the text editor, the safer. :D

I finally solved the problem.

I opened the file in Dreamweaver and then cut and past to TextEdit. But that is the wrong way.

The right way to do it is to open the php file through TextEdit (or another simple text editor), apply the changes, and then save. Then it works.

Never open the include.php file in Dreamweaver.

Just one quick Question before I install this.

I used to have my forum on 2.3.1 and used vbHome (lite) v4.2 then I upgraded to the last Vb 3.03 I think. Since the old vbHome (lite) v4.2 made changes to the database, can I install this hack on the new (unhacked) Vb3.0.3... (the database was upgraded to VB3 of course)

I installed it without probs and it seems to be working ok, though I have one small problem. When I use quotes in a news-thread the layout of the cmps index page is wrecked.

Any idea why this happens?

No, the problem occurs when I use the vb quote tags, like: [ QUOTE=SamirDarji]......[ /QUOTE].

I added the space so it is showed as text.

I added 2 screenshots to enlighten the problem. I don't know for sure but I think it's a probably a tag problem(since in the error screen you can see the complete right hand of the site is put inside the border of the news items with the quotes in it).

Change the corresponding adv_portal templates. You need to find the html that makes the table header and put it in there instead of the category strips.

I've thought about doing the same thing, but down the road. Let me know what you come up with.

OK, this sounds like a great portal, I've installed it after editing all the files that needed to be edited (following the instructions). The problem is that when I go to www.gamehub.co.uk/index.php (I renamed the cmps_index.php to index.php and uploaded it to the public_html folder on the server), I get this error message:

How did you get the module "Anuncios" to span across the entire page like that? That's something I'd like to do too.

In style manager (on the admin cp) open the style you want to put the annoncement box.
Choose the nav bar template (its inside the nav bar breadcrum bla bla part)

with the nav bar template you will see this part .... "almost last part"

some explanations:

if you change the part that says "Anuncios" to what ever you like that will be the title of the BOX.

AFTER THIS <td class="$getbgrow" width="100%">

whatever you put there will appear INSIDE the box, in thi scase I put an image (centered) with a link and a little pop up explanation on the link.

dont hesitate to ask if you run into trouble...

after that just save the the navbar and voila...!

Hello All

I have started to add the left and right module on other pages as described in Integrating Other vB Pages & Hacks (http://www.vbadvanced.com/membersarea.php?do=viewmanual&productid=4&pageid=6)... following steps 4 & 5 for all of the pages (calendar.php and so on)

So far I am have problems with 3 of these files... newreply.php, newthread.php and poll.php. All of them worked correctly until I did the editting.

With newreply.php and newthread.php I get this when I click on the reply button:

I see the line. It seems be caused by a carriage return in the html or something like that. Try using a different style and see if you can narrow it down that way. I believe it's something in the style that's causing that.

This a direct quote from the install readme that is included in the script
Step 1 - Admin CP Modifications
Go to your Style Manager under "Styles & Templates" in your Admin CP. Choose to modify All Style Options. On this page, you will see a section for "Image Paths". Here you must change the path for each image directory (Title Image, Button Images Folder, Miscellaneous Images Folder, etc) to the full path (ex - /forum/images or http://yoursite.com/forum/images).

You must do this for each of your styles, otherwise your images will not show up!

I am planning on setting up something along these lines as a revision for my current site. Link (http://www.blueuniverse.co.uk). I'm not sure how flexible it might be for this though, so I've got a few questions to ask.

How easy is it to extensively modify in the display, and probably the code too. I am going for a pretty complex look, so it will hopefully look absolutely nothing like vbulletin in the end. I'll post a link to the new design if you want, but its sort of the colours I've got now, but with rounded sidebars and a rounded navbar.

Firstly, how easy is it to remove modules, so there are only 1 or 2 left. I'll probably only need log in, links to different pages (can this be user specified) and who's online down the sides. In the middle, I'll probably only need latest post (can this be set to just 1, and for just 1 category?).

Also, would it be possible to have another section lower down on the page, where I could have a post that rotates with other posts in the forum? Or, if this isn't possible is it possible to have another block at the bottom, which works by showing the latest post, from one of the forums. For this, would it be possible to name it, and also remove the buttons to comment it etc. I'd also need both post things, to be able to lose the who posted it thing, and if there is an avatar by it, they'd probs need to be replaced by a pic, if this is possible?

How easy is it to create pages as well, and what can go on these. Can you post any php code or html code to go on these pages?

Finally, how much would it cost to remove the copyright?

Hello all, perhaps someone can help me here. I have been able to add left and right columns using modules but I am having a problem on some pages. The pages that I can't get them to load is New Post... if there IS NOT any new pages. I was told that it probably is an error template, I tried making the changes to functions.php below

I put this in the beginning of the file:

Find this:

I'd look and see where the skin is putting its images. It may not be in the default place. That's the only place I can think to start.

Some of this will require some mods or custom php, but it's easy to integrate things like that. The random image and video modules on my site at www.huntsvillecarscene.com were done from scratch.

Very, very, very easy. If you can add and remove forums and usergroups, you can do the same with pages. You can have php, html or a mixture of both.

Open up cmps_index.php an look for chdir('./forum') changeforum to "forums" then save as index.php. Upload to your server, and delete or remane the index.html you have there now with that irritating redirector on it.

Don't be a whiner, whiners don't get helped as you can see. Reading the errors it looks like like there is an HTML table tag that doesn't get closed. So start opening some templates an track it down yourself, maybe you'll learn something.

That's the way the portal works by default except the file name is cmps_index.php. I think you can change it to portal.php without any other changes and it should work fine.

Any way to make the header logo on the portal page direct users to the forums instead of merely being the link to the portal page you are already are on (since there are no sub-pages for the portal).

It sounds like you installed the different styles without using a parent-child setup. What you need to do is have each of the different styles be a child-style to a parent one. This way, the cmps changes are done to the parent style and all the child styles get the changes too. This is the easiest way to make it work and probably the best way as well.

I'm not sure if i did the right thing but i made the default template the parent style and then uploaded the styles and then re-installed but the styles won't appear still. Here, please have a look at my newly installed portal. (http://www.wowplanet.com/vbindex.php). I'm still a novice to this so please could someone tell me exactly how to do it inside the admin cp including which button or menu i have to choose to get this right? And one more thing, i also have problem with the header. I want the whole header, the one with the logo to be all white. Currently, there's gray in there. Which template do i have to modify to make it white?

Now i've tinkered and its definetnyl something to do with global.php. As if i dont modify that, everythings fine (apart from the homepage dont work lol)

I've altered the Cookie Domain from blank to .theouteredge.net with no luck.

I've heard of this situation too. Definitely a cookie issue. I remember quite a bit of discussion on this over at vbadvanced.com. I'm sure you'll find a solution there.

Ok, making the default style parent was right, but then you have to make the new styles as children to the parent.
The way you do that is Admincp-->Styles & Templates-->Download / Upload Styles.
Set the Import/Upload settings like you did before
Set Merge Into Style to (Create New Style)
Set Ignore Style Version to Yes
Set Title for Uploaded Style to nothing (leave it blank)
Set Parent Style to that default style that you made the parent style
Set Display Order to whatever you want
Set Allow User Selection to Yes

Try that and let me know when you did and I'll look at your site again.

I read your post carefully and confirm that i did exactly as described but for some reasons, my templates still don't show up. Users can change styles inside the forum though so i think i did the right thing.

Is it possible that i'm missing something on the styles modification? Do i need to modify some stuff on each styles i uploaded?

Hmmm...this is stumping me. For my local test setup I wrote exactly what I did and it works fine.

I just took a look at it and it is working, but the image paths aren't finding the graphics. You'll have to modify those in each of the styles like you had to for the default style when you installed vbadvanced. You're almost there!

Ok, I've encountered a problem. Whenever I try to add new modules, it seems to work (for me), but it causes an HTML tag to be broken at the end of the page (after everything else it has a </html tag, but its broken and without the final > on the end). Although it still works for me for some reason (whether or not I'm logged on), everyone else only gets a white page.

Why do add-on modules like that break that tag? Any ideas?

As was said before, it's a cookie issue. I started using the new Netscape, and I had this problem. It has to do with the cookie settings that people use; Netscape for example has a whole bunch of settings that you can change now.

How do I make a custom module to read a template?
I made a template the exact width, etc. as the tables there now on the side. I want to make it a navigation bar. I have the module where I want it under edit modules, then I click it, edited it, but it won't work. I made the template under the default style. Any ideas what I am missing?

Is this hack incompatible with later versions of PHP or MySql? I had it running fine on my old server but am getting all kinds of errors on the new one. Fwiw, VB installs and works fine, it's only when I try to add the CMPS that it starts to freak out.

When I was making my own modules, I noticed if they had errors or were outputting errors, they wouldn't show at all. If all the standard modules work, then I would do some debugging on your php file that is the source of the module by running the php file directly.

The way the system works is that you can make a template the source of a module, but if the html is complicated, it may not work properly in a template.

Yes, but it will be under cmps_index.php until you change the index.php to something like forums.php. Once you make that change, you can change cmps_index.php to index.php and it will be the home page for your site. I use it on my site.

Is the module php or just a template? Either way, disable the module and see if everything still works. If so, then there is a coding problem with the module. Verify the tags in the template and the php file (if it is passing any tags in variables). Use cLord's basic module as a guide. You can find it on vbadvanced.com

San-Deep: That's a hack I believe, I use the same thing, and it's available at the VBaC homepage as well.
Ghost, can't help you, as I don't know what you've put on your site, but the first thing you should look at are the modules. Some take up a lot of server resources, things like shoutboxes especially, and you may have over did it a bit. Deactive some modules and experiment a bit to see what's the best combination of features you really need, and the server speed. Support at VBa is excelaant, they will answer any questions you have on that. It's generally overuse of modules in combinations that slows a site down.
Beyond that, it may be some settings in VB AdminCP that you may have to adjust, most of them are clearly marked in the descriptions when you set the vboptions. Pay close attention to them, when they say that something may impact server resources, they generally mean it. :)
VBaCPMS does add some overhead, but is quite good overall, better than say a average PHP-Nuke site, and far superior to other CMS type systems out there for VBulletin, IMHO.

I'm still a newbie in vBulletin so pardon me but how can I add Forums and Home to the navbar?

To add a "home" link , simply edit out the home URL in your navbar template.
To add a new link , look in the "How-To's" section on http://www.vbulletin.com .

There is something up with the MySQL server. I've submitted a support ticket to our host, but haven't heard anything back yet. We'll also be moving to a dedicated server this week so there won't be problems with the site going down.

It's not just actually making a link but I wanted the navbar to show a Forums link when I'm in the portal and the navbar to show Home when I'm in the forum...

The only issue I see with vBulletin 3.0.4 is the fact that the navigation sides have been removed and I am not sure why as of yet. I did have the Calendar and Newest Topics turned on in vBCMPS, though once I upgraded to vBulletin 3.0.4 they disappeared.

Any idea on this, Brian? I reapplied all the changes to the needed files and checked the templates, though nothing seems to be working.


Edit: All else is working fine, such as the templates and general display, the spacing still shows for the navigation bars, just the nav-bars do not display.

Did you upload the vbacmps_install.php file and choose the option to install only the templates from there?

Hey Tigga, since your site is down, mabye you can answer my question here....it seems after the upgrade to 3.0.4, the upcoming events under the mini calendar is not showing anything on the calendar, even though there are events listed...have you run across this yet?

I can confirm this to be working with 3.0.4. By running the installer and choosing to simply install the templates after the upgrade, all is working well once again.

Okay sure you can have columns on th left and columns on the right and some stuff in the middle. But what else? Can you modify the page to make it look less "phpnuke" like?

I get you add latest forum topics and polls and the calendar etc, but anything of actual use? The calendar looks "pretty" but has no real value.

I installed this "mod" on my test forum and at first I thought great I now have a front page that is tied to the forum. I can add atricles, put up pictures, do all that sort of stuff. Well that's what I thought I could do. I discovered that I can't actually do any of that. I can show the calendar, or I could put who is online. I don't see hte point in that - all of that is available from the forum proper.

I noticed you can add a new page. Okay great ... oh wait it's very SEO unfriendly by having index.php?page=yournewpage as the new page name. SEO goes down the drain there.

I'm having a problem with this.

When I point the browser at the installation script, I get :

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING in /home/mydomain/public_html/includes/functions.php on line 1910

I'm v3.0.4.

Have I done something obviously wrong?

I get the same error when I go to:

http://www.mydomain.com/admincontrol to log in to the management console

(Yes, I have changed 'admincp' to 'admincontrol' - is there something else I need to change in the script because of this??)

It seems to me like a "Tell me why an orange is orange" kind of question.

This is a portal that allows you to take disparate sources of data from your site (primarily forums, but can really be anything) and present them on 1 page as an 'overview' (like what a portal is).

If you can't see the value in that... then it certainly isnt going to benefit you.

Having said though I have seen two sites that have done amazing things and when I scrolled to the bottom it says it's powered by vbadance. These same sites have added more to it so there apparently is a way to add more of those little boxes.

There are plenty of extra modules on www.vbadvanced.com and even here. There are also a ton that come with CMPS.

Ive used other 'portals' and IMO, this is the best.

I have never used phpnuke, so I cant overly comment however AFAIK the concept is similar.
