I have installed vBookie and have been using it.

Fantastic hack, probably the best hack actually! In fact, vBulletin should pay to license it for their next release.

My question.

I have been using it, but now it seems that in USERGROUPS the THREE options to enable vBookie voting etc for each group is not showing up. It shows up in MOST of my USERGROUPS radio button options/selections but does not in others. I have it selected correctly under the vBookie Area in my AdminCP so I have vBookie switched on, but cant see to see an area in the Registered Users group to make it active.

As I said, there was an area a week ago, now there is not... Any ideas? Would be very much appreciated. Alternatively, where in the dbase can I switch on vBookie betting for usergroup #2?

I have the vbookie panel in the CUSTOM USERGROUPS so I can edit to make people able to create/bet on events, but it doesnt show the panel in the DEFAULT USERGROUPS. So ive no way at all to make my default users have access to bet. At present, only the mods can bet and that looks bad.

So any idea why it's doing that? :(

I have a question about uninstallation process. I uninstalled this modifications by applying all template and file edits to backwards. Now is it save to drop vbookie tables from database ? I have some closed bets.

I've discovered a huge flaw in the way vBookie events work that allow someone to vote on any events at odds of his own choosing.

The way to do this, which i discovered by chance, is trivial: make a copy of the form - and edit it to change the odds, which are written in the webpage and not checked after submission.

I thought you should know, because someone wanting to exploit it could do so incredibly easily.

Is there any thoughts as to how to fix this??? Much thanks.

Just so you know there's a HUGE FLAW in this hack. A user can just save a copy of the vbookie thread to their computer, point the form to the http:// address of the website and bet at whatever odds they choose.

The solution is not setting odds based on the hidden form variables:
<input type="hidden" name="odds2[1]" value="10">
<input type="hidden" name="odds2[1]" value="1">

But by taking the item id:
<input type="hidden" name="item_id" value="1680" />

And grabbing the current odds from the database itself.

Just remove the "DEFAULT '1'". An Auto Increment column can not have a default value.

Go into Forums & Moderators and forum manager and setup a forum or a new section just for Vbookie and change the options for this new section or forum.

Then make a post within this new section or forum and that tick will show up on the botton of the post, its an extra tick box.

I'm having a problem getting the system to use UCASH and not VCASH.

I won't "not" show vcash or use the ucash to bet with. I have the option in the adminCP clicked and I have it correct on the postbit template.

Cant help you with that one, but a problem I encountered was when I used Dreamweaver to edit the files. It seemed to corrupt one. I would recommend trying the changes again and not using Dreamweaver (if indeed you are). Sorry I cant be much more help but Im very much a novice!

I posted a thread and now I want to add a vBookie event to it, but when I edit the thread the 'add vbookie'event doesnt show up.

Is it possible to add events later on, or do I have to add them when I start the thread?

vBookie locking the thread table for 455 seconds! The whole site stops for that long. Look at how many rows examined! Dang these LEFT JOINs.

Did some digging:

mysql> select count(*) from thread;
+----------+

| 159281 |
+----------+

mysql> select count(*) from vbookie_items;
+----------+
| count(*) |
+----------+
| 844 |
+----------+

I think it scanned the entire thread table about 844 times to do the query, and it created temporary tables to boot.


My fix was to enter the following query:

create index thread_vbookie on thread (vbookie_item_id);

This costs sizeof(MEDIUM_INT)*159281 bytes of RAM to keep the needed field in RAM all the time.

At MEDIUM_INT = 2 bytes, it's 320K. At 4 bytes, it's 640K. Puny amount of memory to save all those table scans.

I'm pretty sure it worked, as I went to the vbookie.php page and did all kinds of sorts and they were instant.

Ok, I installed it, with no problems, I hadn't added any events yet, but the page was working. Now, when I click on the link, all I get is a blank white page. the php file is definitely still uploaded, and the link in the navbar is going to the right place, so, what's up?

i want every usergroup to able to bet on events... so i set "can this usergroup bet on events" to yes...

but when i make an event it says "you may not bet on this event" ?!?!

I can see a preview but after hit summit new event nothing happen event isn't seen in vbookie area. or nothing xtra on the thread .

When I go to the vbookie.php it duplicates the event and when I click to go to the thread of the duplicated event, it brings me to a different vbookie event's thread with the new event I added at the top, very weird! How do I fix this?

In newthread.php it doesnt show that i can add an event or add a vbookie event ...
i double checked edits in newthread and they are there all

admin wasnt able to place a new event , so i created new group although i did allow admins to place new events but i still had to create a group
Make sure group is non moderated ( i had problems because i had it moderated by mistake ) and i was searching and searching untill i was doing new group all over for that lousy simple button choice that i was in a rush to look at !

In the edit which you do on showthread.php

I replaced with

Which means i reversed the canbet perms , which is weird but this way the whole permissions worked exactly as i set them and instead of having a non working code or messed up , i had it working like a charm !
I posted it just incase someone wanted to try doing the same if having same problems with permissions issues.

vBookie works fine with 3.0.7. If you are having trouble and getting errors I would advise double checking your code modifications.

To create a new vBookie event you have to start a new thread ? but be sure to tick the box where it says "Yes, post a vBookie Event with this thread" as there is no way to add an event to a thread afterwards.

Hi the answer to my question is-

To reset everyone to whatever you want use : UPDATE user SET vbookie_cash=500;

I cant see where in the admin to put it. When i search vbookie_cash i get 2 options which are-

vbookie_cash_bit

and

postbit


Do i just add that line (UPDATE user SET vbookie_cash=500;) in there somewhere? :( Thank. Also i know i dont wanna run before i can walk but id be as well asking if you dont mind. I prefer the avatars and post count etc down the left of the forum but find that the vbookie totals dont show if i have it that way.

Ive fell out with all the other admin on my forum over the running of our vbookie competition as they said my way was too tricky etc (but it aint) Everything is going great and i was pretty pleased with some of the events i had posted up

So anyhow i ended up DELETING the first post from an event and i cant get to see the vbookie event. I understand it will payout folks money when it aint settled 7 days after it closes but thats after the end of our tourney :( I gotta work this out so all help would be very appreciated. I deleted a thread containing an event (which was created by another user.) I'm not unable to delete the event - i only have the 'Thread' and 'Info' options available to me.

Is this a defect or am I doing something wrong?

It's been brought to my attention that I neglected to add a way to actually delete an Event. "Abandon" will cancel all bets and place the Event in a closed state, but it still exists in the database. I'll add a method to physically remove an event/detach it from a thread. I expect it to be just an update to vbookie.php, so patching should be very simple.

Apologies for the rather glaring oversight!

Ps i know youve had a discusion on this on this thread but your decimals odds ARE wrong at least in Europe. to us 7.00 = 6/1 as we include our stake. I belive American odds are as shown. Is there an easy way to change this?

I have vBookie set to where every registered user can bet, but only the Admin group can create/edit events.

We recently had an event where one of the moderators was able to pay out the bet at the end of the event. A quick double check of the permissions for that group confirmed it was set to bet only. Is vBookie set internally to allow any "staff" member to pay out? I had assumed that only the admin group would be able to do this.

Everything works, I can get to the point of making the thread and then when i hit submit vBookie, this comes up:

It appears to have something to do with my user ID settings perhaps, ID 4 on my forum is (COPPA) Users Awaiting Moderation which I do not use.

I have had a problem with this hack for a while now. Every time someone creates a new bet, it adds two links in the vbookie.php page. Below is a link to a screenshot I took of the problem...

I'd also look at your forum permissions, that's where I got tripped up. I checked the group permissions ten times, but never set the forum permissions to allow the creation of an event.



I see in the instructions, that it's possible to restrict events to certain groups. Is this on a per event basis? Is it possible to setup leagues for NFL and College seperately with seperate groups and events for each?

I have tried to run the installer (haven't even got to the edits yet) and it will install the templates and phrases but when it gets to database I get:

Does this work with vBulletin 3.0.8. I have installed it and took my time with all the file edits. The vBookie page is there and I'm getting no errors. Everything seems to have been installed just fine.

But when I go to post a new thread. The link is not there to post a vBookie bet with the thread.

I have checked usergroup permissions and enabled admin to post bets as well as members. And I have also enabled the betting system using it own betting type. But still no option is there in a new thread to attach a bet.

Can somebody advice and help me please with this.

PS: I also notice that somebody above said he got a MySQL error duting the installtion on 3.0.8. Well the install file went OK for me and I did'nt get any MySQL errors at all. :ermm:

My mistake, I didn't know after the vBadvanced bit there were also a couple of template edits also to be done also. It's working fine but I have question.

There is a section in the file edits were you are asked to open the file called init.php

and search for this:

The problem is in vBulletin 3.0.8 the line you search for called.

So what do I do with the placement code. Do I add a comma after the last line in the mod instead.

or this: Seeing as the stylrcache line in vbulletin 3.0.8 already has a comma after it unlike the mod that asks you to search for it mwithout a comma which must have been a 3.0.0 thing that wasnt there in that version.

It would be nice to see how much they have under "Join Date: XX-XX-XXXX" to just say something like in the Postbit.

I've discovered a huge flaw in the way vBookie events work that allow someone to vote on any events at odds of his own choosing.

The way to do this, which i discovered by chance, is trivial: make a copy of the form - and edit it to change the odds, which are written in the webpage and not checked after submission.

I thought you should know, because someone wanting to exploit it could do so incredibly easily.

Is there any thoughts as to how to fix this??? Much thanks.

It's not fixed in the vBulletin 3.0 Version and the original author most likely won't update it anymore.
As this isn't a real security issue you might be out of luck if nobody else does a fix.

I just installed this and it's working beautifully... Except now all of my users can see who left them reputation hits. Before, only certain groups had that ability. In the usergroup admincp module, the reputation options block is completely missing now.

I tried adding it back manually by copying from a fresh VBulletin download and adding the relevant code block into usergroup.php. That brought the options back in the CP, but now I get a database error when I try to save those options.

Has anyone else run into this?

Transferred all files to proper folders. Assumed file editing was only necessary if upgrading from an older version. When trying to run the install, I got this error.

Anyone know how to change the pay out winner after an event has been settled. My "bookie" sometimes clicks the wrong checkbox.

This is actually a feature desperately needed for the updated 3.5x version. A way to unsettle markets and then resettle them properly if the operater made a mistake.

The way I do this now is by executing a series of MySQL queries from the command line. But it doesn't claim back money from those who were wrongly settled as winners.

In response to the various people that have asked me about a version of vBookie for vBulletin 3.5.0, I'm sorry to say that I have no current plans to produce one myself. Although Ihave a lifetime vBulletin licence, my year's worth of free upgrades expired in March, so making a version for 3.5.0 would be difficult.

That error opens on a new page, but the bet IS placed. Any ideas?

So When Users Place High Bets And It Totals Over The Payout, Nobody Recieves Any Winnings...

BigT, I suggest you check your usergroup permissions for vBookie. That's all your usergroups too. This happened to me when I first installed it again and then I wondered why my users weren't betting then I realised I hadn't given them permission to do so...!

you quite possibly only have vbookie installed on some styles and not in others. So, Vbookie will not show up if you use custom templates other then the template you were using when Vbookie was installed

or your permissions need editing

Is there any way I can maunally delete events without the thread? When I first installed it I put some events up and I did it wrong so I deleted the threads for the events without ending the actual event first. Now they're sitting there but they won't go away as I havn't settled them. Any way to get rid of these?

Yes, that's quite possible.

All you'd need to do is hack the functions_vbookie.php file, changing the 8 instances of 'vbookie_cash' to 'reputation'. That should be all you need to do. You might want to alter some of the phrases as well, as they mention 'cash' such as "You do not have enough cash to cover your bets" (vbookie_not_enough_cash) or "You have 300 cash" (vbookie_may_bet), etc.

Also, in the vBookie general settings, turn off the display of vCash in the postbit, as it'd be pointless to display. Since you're dealing with Reputation, you'd also want to turn off the "charity" mode I expect, as that would re-set anyone lower than 25 to a 25 Reputation each time a new Event is added.

Ok, I've read through most of this thread and can't seem to find a similar problem - so help please?

I've done everything in the instructions and there are no parse errors when I load the site. I set vBookie as active, and selected uCash. Problem is, when I try to access vbookie.php there's just a blank page. Same thing happens when I select "Post vBookie event" as a posting option . . it just loads a blank page!

Everything appears to be ok. As I said, no parse errors, no install errors, and the vBookie options have been added to my ACP.

Now I do have v3 Arcade, uCash/uShop, & vbChat installed (and working well) but I think the prob must be some kind of clash with one of these hacks.

I expected to make some minor changes in view of these prior modifications . . the change to my includes/init.php looks like this:

Ok, got it working on 1 theme. The problem seems to be that the vBookie templates were only added to the theme that was set as "forum default".

That isn't the vB default theme, and the vB default theme can't be "parented" by an added theme . . so is there a relatively easy way to get all the added templates into the default theme (and others) . . or would I need to copy each template and add them manually?

for example, if a user puts 100 points and the odd is "1.5" (15/10) and the user gets 100+150 points, 250 points if he wins.
However I want to give him (if he wins) "150", instead of 250

use 1 to 1 odds and set each outcome as a bet i.e.

Dolphins -1.5
Steelers +1.5
Under 34.5
Over 34.5



here's a hack I did that may interest some.. because there are about 32 bets possible every week in the NFL ~ 16 games, winner & Over/Under bets I wanted to institue a maximum bet per game

I edited vbookie.php

Find the following

Another hack for the stats page I just implemented....

Because I only allow a max wager of 25 per outcome, the total vCash movement is small, and there will be a lot of people hovering at or near the initial 500 mark..

so in order to only display people that have placed a wager as the "richest people" on the stats page I made the following change:

Can anyone tell me how I can either completely disable private bets or how I can just make it so that admin can atleast see them?

I use my vBookie to run contests and for some reason when someone bets as "private" no one can see their bet and the money doesnt get automatically paid out if they win when the bet is settled.
