Say for instance you made a $10 bet on something with 42-1 odds.
Say you had $500 before making the bet.

If you lose, you would be down $10 and your balance down to $490, but if you win you would win $420 making your balance now $920.

I made a $10 bet on the Ravens to win the Super Bowl in 2000 on 42-1 odds before the season started. $420 was deposited to my account the day after the Super Bowl for my winnings.

So basically if you bet $10 on something on 10-1 odds and win, you would win $100, or if you lost would only lose your initial $10.

the easiest way to look at it is, if you laid a $50 chip down at vegas roulette wheel on black (1 to 1 odds),
and it came up black, you would get your chip back and another one.

betting in first 3rd 1-12 (3 to 1 odds)
if you bet $50 and you won, you would get first $50 chip and 3 more of them, etc.

Is it possible to retract a bid another user has made?

For example. I had a event set up for Eddie Georges signing. Betting on what team he would sign with.

There was no way to set a date that would end on the day and time of the event so it was left open.

Anyhow, when he signed, I had a bet made by someone for 400 vCash and it was a bet made after the event took place but I wasnt here to end the event when it actually ended.

So, how can I go about taking those winnings he made back?

Would it be possible to add a date and time to when each bet was made, and then to make it possible to edit vCash in the Admin CP under user information like you can for post count?

I currently have uShop installed and I am running vB 3.0.3

And I'm having some problems with the modification of init.php. I keep getting parse errors anytime I try to combine these pieces of code.

I have a little problem unfortunately. At our forum the users can choose between two different styles. Clicking on vBookie link (or anything vBookie related) while using style #2 results in a completely blank page. Then I noticed that this particular style doesn't have those custom templates which style #1 has and it's probably the reason for this problem. In fact, style #1 is the only one which has those custom templates. I do have other styles too but those can't be selected.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it? Both styles are child styles of the original vBulletin 3 style.

I installed 3.0.3 fresh, installed the Arcade, Petz, Shoutbox and finally vBookie.

All worked perfectly pre-vbookie but when i try to reach the vBookiepage from the dropdown menu the "main" part of the view goes white, same goes for "Usergroup manager", that page is also blank.

Now - where did I do something wrong, almost completly certain i followed the procedure to the full extent, must've missed somewhere, anyone care to take a guess? Don't fancy reinstalling, but guess I'll have to after all :)

Reinstalled VB3 & vBookie, usergrouppages work, vBookie from the nav-menu is white.

Only thing strange in the usergroup manager is that I can't set all 3 options concerning vBookie to Yes.

if i set them all to yes one or two of them turns up as No next time I check administrator permissions :(

Brilliant add-on! My members love it.

At present I have a problem where events are showing up twice on the events page. (see attachment). I've searched this thread but couldn't find a similar problem.

PS Further to this, it works out that the events show for the amount of bets placed on it. eg If 6 bets have been placed on an event, the event will show up 6 times. :(

If you followed the instructions perfectly, it would work. That's the way these things go.

Is there a possibility that you have more than one Style available on your forums?

And that the default one is not the one you are looking at?

Most automatic Template installs add the new templates to one style only, requiring the Installee to manually copy and paste the info into other templates.

The fact that nothing is being shown on vBookie.php might suggest that a required template isn't present in the database. The installer only add templates and phrases to the default style (he should if you have another style with the same id then it doesn't work for the default, too), and if you are using a style that's not based on the default you might find that the templates aren't picked up.

Try editing vbookie_install.php and changing "$styleid=$vboptions['styleid'];" (appears twice) to "$styleid=N;" where N is the styleid of your style.

Haven't touched templates yet, still using the No.1 one, basic default one.

Changing styleid to 1 doesn't make sense since its default.

All templates are added, same with phrases, databases are made etc... this is just ... :(

Going to bring my laptop to work and do a clean install of vb3 and then throw vbookie in there.

If this is the case the installer should work perfectly, an untouched version of vb3 fresh from the factory? :)

Example if all user bet on only two chance, they ar little odd etc...

Great add-on. All my members are loving it! Would it be possible to include an edit function when bets have been settled, because one of my members did it wrong, and we cant edit the results of the bets?

Also, is it possible to simply clear all the bets made, give everyone 500 vcash and start over again?

I just added it to my largest site and it's an instant hit.

The feedback I've had so far:
- Add vCash to profile, not userbit (something I'm doing).
- More leaders lists then just the top 5 richest. Perhaps a page in itself just for leaders. Overall, last week, last month.
- Categorized leaders.

Suggestions from me:
- Have a "max bet" amount for an event. Here's why: say I want to encourage people playing and I say - new category starting over the next month: whoever gets the highest in the category at the end of the month wins a prize. Well - new members (and members who are unlikely) will be at a huge disadvantage for the prize if I let any amount be bet on these events. Therefore, if I were to say "100 max" or something like that, I can make it a much more even playing field for all involved. Outside events can still be whatever, but these "prize events" need more control over them.

just installed 1.0.4 - seems to be working ok not really tested it alot yet seems good though,

although i have one problem though, in the adminCP there is no menu on the left for me to get into the settings for it, any idea what i might have done as i have checked the edited files and they all seem ok, any ideas?

Installed. Great hack. Works well on vb 3.0.3 (just took some time finding some of the code that had changed since the code has changed since 3.0.0).

However, it isn't sending pm's or emails to those who have placed bets, to notify them of the bet being settled.

The vbookie_email_betsettledbody template says:

Also, there seems to be an error when calculating "Total Amount Staked".

While for the individual outcomes, it calculates it fine...it is in the top summary of each event that it miscalculates. Instead of adding up all that has been staked...it doubles the actual total staked in each outcome.

If you click info, then add up for each outcome, the "Total Amount Staked" column...it should equal the amount in the summary, correct? Instead, the summary has this amount X2 for some reason.

You shouldn't have 2 instances of if (can_administer('canadminstyles'))...on a fresh vBs admincp/index.php that line is used to show the style settings to those admins with permission to administer styles.

One other point to note is that 3.0.3s includes/functions_showthread.php lacks the // ###################### Start getreputationimage #######################

So, instead, find require_once('./includes/functions_reputation.php'); and add the required bit under that.

The only way to do something like that with the current system would be to separate any events that can be pushed into their own event, and then abandon it if they push.

Ugh. I was afraid you would say that.

I don't mean to be negative, but this hack doesn't make sense without a feature that allows an outcome to be a push. I'm using this for a sports forum, and in sports there are often outcomes that go "push" while there is still action that nets wins and losses. This is very common in sports, especially NFL.

There really should be an option for an outcome to go "push" that doesn't wreck the action on all the other bets.

There's no way I can manage all these games if i'm having to have three seperate threads to bet one game...

"Push" is a standard in gambling. If this hack is going to be used in football forums, "push" outcomes are important to have without having to mess up the other action... and without having to have a dozen different threads to bet a single game. There's only one bet in standard football betting that doesn't go push...

Unfortunately, my users have got action placed already and the NFL season starts this week.

Also, for reference, there are 16 games a week in the NFL, with three standard bets...

1. MoneyLine
2. Over/Under
3. Point Spread

To seperate those into three seperate threads per single game is the difference between managing 16 threads a week (opening and closing) and almost 50 threads each week. That's about a hundred threads each week for NFL forum admins to manage when you figure that you've got to close last week's results, and then you've got to open next week's action. That's a huge time investment.

I love the hack, but a "push" outcome is incredibly important.

Real books take 9.1 percent of the winnings at pay-out. It's commonly called "juice" or "vigorous." It's more or less a commission for making the bet. It would be cool if the control panel included an option to turn 'vig' on or off... and have the statistics portion track how much vig the book is making each week and each "season."

It's not as important as the push option, but it would be a cool enhancement that would actually be pretty educational.

Introduction

vBookie is a 'bookmakers' or betting extension to vBulletin. It enables authorised members to post Events and Outcomes that forum members can bet on. Each Outcome has its own set of odds, and odds can be modified through the life of an Event (bets that are placed are stored with the prevailing odds, so even if the odds change, your users are paid at the correct rate).

Once the results are known, Events can be settled and forums members awarded their winnings.

vBookie uses its own vCash by default, but this has no more use than as 'bragging rights'. However, vBookie also comes with a built-in switch to allow it to use either uCash or Petz money instead. That means that all bets are paid for and settled using uCash or Petz money, making betting even more attractive than just for fun on forums with uShop/Petz installed. Although vBookie does not have any built-in facility to integrate with any other store hacks, it's a very simple job to hack vBookie itself to integrate it with any store/points system you care to use.

Corrected Petz bug whereby all winnings were paid to the bet's owner rather than individual winners. To upgrade from 1.03 or earlier, see this post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=523030) or overwrite includes/functions.vbookie.php with the 1.0.4 version.

Problems?

-> Petz - If you are using Petz there is a bug in all versions up to and inclusing 1.0.3. Your players won't get paid their winning, and all payouts will end up in the account of the person that posted the Event. To correct this, please see this post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=523030). This fix will be incororated into 1.0.4 onwards.

-> If you can't post Events, or can't bet on them make sure you have set your user permissions

-> If you have an SQL error Invalid SQL: UPDATE SET =25 WHERE <25 make sure you are using version 1.0.3 or later.

-> If you have any other general problems, please check the installation/hack instructions and make sure you have carried out all the steps and also check that you made the changes correctly

About Odds

Odds of "5/1" are "amount won per amount placed". This means that I would win 5 for every 1 placed. Of course, if I win, I get my stake back as well. Odds of "1/5" means that I win 1 for every 5 placed. I'd have to place 25 to win just 5.

Decimal Odds

Decimal odds are just another way of displaying the same information. 2.0 is the same as 2/1. 0.2 is the same as 1/5. vBookie only lets you specify odds in terms of x/y, but if you think in terms of decimal you can still work out what odds to provide. Simply think of your decimal odds as "2.0 / 1.0" or "0.5 / 1.0" and then multiply each side through by 10 or 100 until there are only zeros to the right of the decimal point, then just take the whole number part.

2.0 / 1.0 has no decimals, so this is the same as 2/1

0.5 / 1.0 has a 0.5, so multiply both parts by 10 to get 5.0 / 10.0. Then you can specify your odds as 5 / 10. You might also realise that this is the same as 1/2. The technique is a simple way to work out any odds you may need to specify.

Odds of 0.65 -> 0.65 / 1.0 -> 65.0 / 100.0 or 65/100. Then you can divide through by 5 to get to 13 / 20, although this step isn't necessary.

Installed. Great hack. Works well on vb 3.0.3 (just took some time finding some of the code that had changed since the code has changed since 3.0.0).

However, it isn't sending pm's or emails to those who have placed bets, to notify them of the bet being settled.

The fact that nothing is being shown on vBookie.php might suggest that a required template isn't present in the database. The installer only add templates and phrases to the default style (he should if you have another style with the same id then it doesn't work for the default, too), and if you are using a style that's not based on the default you might find that the templates aren't picked up.

Try editing vbookie_install.php and changing "$styleid=$vboptions['styleid'];" (appears twice) to "$styleid=N;" where N is the styleid of your style.

I deleted a thread containing an event (which was created by another user.) I'm not unable to delete the event - i only have the 'Thread' and 'Info' options available to me.

I installed vbookie, but it seems that it is interfering with the private thread hack. After I setup the groups permissions, whenever I run vbookie.php the settings for the other hack switches to "no" and Vbookie settings are not updating for the groups.

Now this is a rather long install. Can someone please give me a pointer which php to look for the settings?

Here is my problem. The permissions in usergroup are behaving erratic: the radio buttons do not accept updates or update the wrong ones.

The problem was in the bitfield. They were both using the same bitfield number. I doubled the other hack bitfield, and the permissions are holding and the other hack appears to be fine.

However, I am confused on how Vbookie works. I gave full permission to admin, and when I go to vbookie.php I do not see how to input a bet.

For some reason, it's still wanting to use the vBookie points instead of my uShop points. I selected the correct field in the options, but it's still not using uShop points. Any ideas?

Installed this hack and it's great. Just one problem, there's a typo in the phrase:

vbookie_allow_multiple_bets_desc

Select this box if you want to allow people to vote more than once on this Event. If you leaev this box unselected, people will not be able to bet for more than one Outcome, nor for the same Outcome more than once.

Why do you assume I don't have it installed? I've already stated the problem -posters earn uCash for posting as normal, but when I tell vBookie to use uCash instead of its own cash, it still uses its own cash for betting - so I have two different currencies going on, when all I want is to use UCash for both.

I did not find it when searching through the thread, but here are a couple of options I'd like to see:

1] An option to bet against a spread, or to bet over/under the score
2] On the richest members page, round all $ values to two decimal places.

OK I just had this happen on my first ever test of this after installing it on my board.

1) Can anyone settle the bets?? I see no setting asking who can settle the bets.. I'm assuming that anyone on the board can settle the bet and that somebody on my board settled the bet and settled it wrong?

When I put that statement in the file it gives me the error I mentioned. The wierd thing is that if I then remove it from the file i also get the same error. Only when I copy the original functions.php file from a fresh vb3.0.3 install over to this install and replace the existing file does it go back to the original state with my forums working. Very peculiar. Anyhow I've omitted it now as I figured it's only the image directory which is not vital for the hack to work and indeed the hack seems to be working fine.

Still can't figure out why that statement is causing so much havoc though. Any ideas?

I've sorted my issue out now and it works like a charm :) I have one question though. I want to make use of vCash to hand out cash so I thought I'd program a lil addon in the admin cp. All I'm going to want the addon to do is submit a form with userid and payment and basically add that to what the user currently has in the db. The querying is simple enough, I'm just not sure about creating the form in keeping with the way the form is created for the main vBookie options in the admin cp. So what I mean is I'm unsure as to how the functions print_cp_header, print_form_header, print_table_header etc. work. Anyhow able to explain briefly how the submission of the form works and how the form is constructed with those functions in vbookie_admin.php?

Give each user 100 cyber sheckles to bet on EACH event, and keep a running total of their wins/losses. It would allow me to run a footy prediction competition.

Hi, yes I unticked the "Support" box because most of my time is currently engaged with other projects.

sabret00the, there's no way of doing that at the moment. It would be quite a simple addition, I'm sure. Basically, just an addition to the event status values (SETTLED, CLOSED etc.) of "PENDING", and altering showthread.php to hide events with a status of PENDING unless the person viewing it was the event's Owner or a forum Administrator. It'd also need a simple way of setting the event's status to "OPEN", which could be hacked into the vbookie.php page.

Does anyone know how to limit the max amount bet? I recently had to reset the entire system after a few folks got over a billion. Mostly our fault with the odds but I would like to limit every bet to just 100.

Edit vbookie.php. Find the following section:

Is it possible to do the following,

I have a forum dedicated to vbookie and when you look at the forum and see all the posts with the vbookie sign in it, it doesn't tell you if the betting is closed or if it is still open (still taking bets). Is there a way to change the vbookie blue dollar sign to green when thy are still taking bets and to red when the betting is closed.

This will instantly let the members know if betting it closed or open.

I went through the phrases, and changed all "vbookie" phrases to "sportsbook" for our site. When you post an event, the thread still indicates "vbookie" inthe second column of the thread post. Where is that located in the coding, i would like to be consistent with my verbiage.

At present I have a problem where events are showing up twice on the events page. (see attachment). I've searched this thread but couldn't find a similar problem.

PS Further to this, it works out that the events show for the amount of bets placed on it. eg If 6 bets have been placed on an event, the event will show up 6 times. :(

Open showthread.php and add them to the $globaltemplates array (commented as 'pre-cache templates used by all actions'). I think that's all you need to do.

I think the problem is likely to be incorrect editing, rather than a problem. Only one other person has reported the same issue, and there have been at least 200 installations, plus more than aren't registered.

I recommend that you go through the hack instructions and verify that you did everything exactly as you should have.

Well, this is a bit bizarre, and I don't know if it's related, nor where to look, but after I installed this betting thing into my Ushop (and it's working great; my members love it), I get this error when I, the admin, try to log into the ADMIN CP

Wrong username or password. You have used up your failed login quota! Please wait 15 minutes before trying again. Don't forget that the password is case sensitive. Forgotten your password? Click here!

Get that on the first time, with the correct password; got to wait fifteen minutes to attempt it again; usually it's successful after the fifteen minute time period. I don't understand this, as, eventually, I can log in successfully.

I was just about to post the same question because I just installed and was stumped. Then it hit me.... you probably have to set permissions for members to post vbookie events so not evenyone can do it.

Go to usergroup manager and edit a usergroup... its about halfway down the boxes to allow to post vbookie events. Chea!

Make sure that you have given the usergroup permission to post a vBookie event and also, make sure that you have vBookie turned on via the CP. If you have gone through every step of the installation correctly, then it must be your settings. Also, make sure you're looking in the right place to post an event. When you click on new thread, you should see something like the following:

if your just using play cash you can manipulate anyones $$ amount simply by going into phpmyadmin and selecting there user #, there you will be able to add or subtract any amount of $$ you want. im not to sure about the others ucash and what not.

Look at the screenshot posted above. When you click on new thread, you'll see underneath the text box, an option to post a vBookie event. I've highlighted it in red. Make sure you tick this when posting a vBookie event.

Well after much thought....I just went back to all the usergroups to check to make sure I had them set to "allow vbookie events"...they all we're.....so I just updated them...instead of baking out ofthem....and voila.....there they are!!

I had terrible problems with my functions.php file when I had to edit it. Try making the changes in a simple text editor like notepad or wordpad. I always have to when editing functions.php otherwise it adds spaces into the file which cause errors like you are having.

I get the attached. Notice the vbookie settings at the top. I have tried to fix it about 3 times. Any ideas? I'm not sure if it's causing any issues. Everything else seems to work. Although the settings in usergroup manager won't stick sometimes.

The problem was in the bitfield. They were both using the same bitfield number. I doubled the other hack bitfield, and the permissions are holding and the other hack appears to be fine.

However, I am confused on how Vbookie works. I gave full permission to admin, and when I go to vbookie.php I do not see how to input a bet.

It has been working fine on my 3.0.6 and did so on 3.0.5. If you are getting a blank screen you've obviously not installed it correctly. Do you have any other hacks installed?

I would suggest uploading the files again, checking the templates once over because there is something not quite right there. You DB should still be intact so you wont lose any data.

With some hacks, the templates get "lost" during upgrade, leading you to the white screen of death. Upload the install files, and run the install so that it writes the templates and phrases. That should do it. I had a similar problem.

problem i had was i reverted templates by accident so i had to redo everything. so after it failed to reload i emptied the data base and tried a fresh install. it didnt work so now i want it back someone fix the installer!!!!!!! ill pay!!

Just so you know there's a HUGE FLAW in this hack. A user can just save a copy of the vbookie thread to their computer, point the form to the http:// address of the website and bet at whatever odds they choose.

The solution is not setting odds based on the hidden form variables:
<input type="hidden" name="odds2[1]" value="10">
<input type="hidden" name="odds2[1]" value="1">

But by taking the item id:
<input type="hidden" name="item_id" value="1680" />

And grabbing the current odds from the database itself.

Events are created by creating a new thread in an enabled forum.
When creating a new thread, there will be a tick box to make the thread a vBookie Event. If you check that box and submit, it will bring you to the event setup.

I have tested an install with 3.0.6 and I cannot recall any issues with the installer. The only issues I had was with file edits. The "FIND" code was a bit different in most of the steps but you can still figure out where stuff goes by finding something close to what it tells you to look for.

ok I check my boards and here's the deal. I don't have and have never had those tables in my usergroup database..and have been using bookie for some time now...However, according to the install files..those names belong in the init.php..and that's where I found them. I think you left out some coding..double check and make sure your init.php file is correct. That should fix your problem.

I'm using this wonderful hack to run a uCash sportsbook on my site. Problem is, with uCash thief enabled, people steal from users who get paid and aren't online.

Point spreads. The lines move, and if you edit the bet, you lose the information of who bet at the previous lines.

Easily installed on 3.07 without any problems. However, the vbadvanced module is causing the home page to be blank....

I found out that the problem was being caused by $getbgrow = getrowcolor();

I commented it out and removed it at the last line, then was fine.

Just noticed another problem, the dollar image does not show up. Instead it is the poll image that displays on forumdisplay

I searched the thread for these but did not find anything concrete, so I'll ask it here. If I inadvertently missed them, my apologies. A couple of ideas for additions:

1] Pool bet: This is most commonly seen in the NCAA Tournament Brackets. Users can pay x amount of vCash/uCash/whatever to get in, and that amount is stored in a "pot" or "pool". At the end of the event, you can choose 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and those guys get a certain percentage of the pot.

2] Push option: I saw this brought up, but did not see anything about having it implemented. Any progress?

Mystery solved! Although I emptied database after tests, I did not delete those posts. So vbookie was pulling same double old and new

vBookie was running perfect until I updated vBulletin from version 3.03 to 3.05??? I updated my vbArcade and its working fine, but vBookie doesn't work. I've tried reinstalling from scratch and get a white screen after 2 hours of work tried multiple times. I want my betting back. Any ideas or help is appreciated...

I'm not sure where I messed up installing the hack, but whenever I try to post a newthread, the WYSIWYG editor is totally messed up. I looked for a couple of hours and couldn't find any problems in the code. Anyone have any suggestions?

It uses virtual points, either its own built in system or it can use the points from the ushop hack.

okay...call me retarded, but......how do you add events?? i went to vbookie, but i dont see "add events anywhere"....

Events are created by creating a new thread in an enabled forum.
When creating a new thread, there will be a tick box to make the thread a vBookie Event. If you check that box and submit, it will bring you to the event setup.

Hey guys.

I am having trouble getting this hack running on my system.

I am running the latest version 1.0.4. It says that for this error ensure I am running version 1.0.3 or higher... which I am.

It all seems to work and it allows me to get to the page I need to to enter the bookie event, then when I click ok it comes up with the error below. If I click refresh it actually works and adds the event to my vBookie screen but it doesnt add the event for members to bet on.

Also, when I click on the vBookie screen I see the 5 vBookie events there and shows me that noone has better on them, of course they cant as they dont show up at the top of threads. Also when I scroll over 'Thread' in the vBookie screen it comes up with 'http://www.myafl.com/forum/showthread.php?t=' and as you can see it has no thread number it refers to.... so definitely an issue there somewhere.

REALLY desperate to get this working as the Football season starts tomorrow and I need it running for that.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Tell me if I am right, This doesn't support betting between members. Just betting against the "Ucash" system? If I am correct do you have any future plans on making it where members could play against each other. For instance I run a sports card trading site (www.sccollectors.com/forums ) (shameless plug) and I have a forum set up so they can bet ucash. The problem that I see arising in the future is people not paying up so I will have to take the cash out myself. It would be great to somewhat automate this for users. Something like you make a title you place the odds and the maxium in bets you could receive. Then you let event occur. After event occurs you go to the post click some type of button that picks the winner. The other party envolved gets a pm sent to them to confirm it by going to same link. If both confirm bet is finalized and sent to winner. If one of two denys then a pm is sent to admin and he can make the decision himself. I would find something like this extremely useful. I think many other board owners would also.

Looking for some help on getting the post icon for a vbookie event listed on the forum index to show up the same as it does when viewing the forum it's posted in. On the index page, it shows up as a poll icon, while on the forum it's posted in, it is the "$" sign. I've looked through all the templates, but didn't have much luck. I'm also a php ID-10-T :) so if you can point me in the correct direction, I'd very much appreciate it.

I have a problem with vBookie v1.0.4.

From the AdminCP i can't cahnge the General vBookie Settings. I set the five options to what i want, press update and let it go. I then get the message "vBookie Settings Saved Successfully." The window then refreses and goes back to the general settings page. This is where the rpoblem occurs. All the options have gone back to the default and are all set to no. When i check the forum none of the changes have taken place. So i can't open the vBookie to anyone. Not even those with permission.

Thanks for your time, its very much appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon with a solution. BTW the mod looks great on forums that it works on.
