I guess it depends on your IRC server. I use Slashnet and you can see who is in chat with there services.

There is one typo in one of the template created. I think either vbxirc_index or vbxirc_small. Where 'quitmsg' spelt as 'qutmsg'.

I have set the:

From false to true, that will create a Connect/Disconnect button.

gives a colour selection for text.

the last version i updated used pjirc 2.0.0 when it was released IIRC.

How to make an avatar in the chat program:

1)Upload your shrinked down avatar to the /img/ directory, the size can be around 20x20. eg. sally.gif
2)Change your templates:
vbxirc_index and vbxirc_small
Add the following line to the existing smiley lines:

<param name="style:smiley29" value="_eye_ img/sally.gif">

The number value (eg. 29) must be greater than the previous one.

Now, after connect, change your nick name to _eye_
Your nick name area will be presented with the avatar. Basically you will see the smiley as your avatar. Naturally type _eye_ will produce an smiley as well.

One thing to note, a nick name can not start with ":", so you can't name the shortcut for your avatar smiley as :eye:

You can even combine your nick with avatar + nick. eg. as above:

change your nick to: _eye_EYE
will see an avatar before your nick of EYE.

When a user joins, it makes them join under their username. Well, I'd like them to have a prefix on that name, since most user names are registered on the server my channel is. Something like FC_$username

I'm near hitting myself ...

I downloaded the zip, extracted it on my local pc, made the steps described in the howto. then uploaded the zip to the webserver. So I changed the variable right but copied the unchanged version .... *laughing*


Nearly forgot to say: Great work!

And another question: The firewall blocks connecting to the webserver on the irc ports. This would be no prob for te forum, I think, since it runs on the same machine and I can connect over localhost, but I do not have any channels on my server, since I installed the unrealircd the first time. Now the applet says:

Connecting...
Unable to connect : null

any suggestions?

Another question: Do I have to open the port 6667 on my firewall or does the script just connect locally?

You need to make sure the IRC client can connect to the server :P so yes you would need to allow irc to go though your firewall

You only edit templates, not files, for template modifcations, and that would be the navbar template, not header.php.. because there is no header.php vB file.s

Its a IRC server issue, there is somthing about their username that the server doesnt like, ive tried my best to strip and format user names to the proper IRC compliency

I cannot think of anything to issue that error unless, your trying to use the unsecure cab/jar files, you have the wrong cab/jar files or you have a firewall blocking the request.

There are a few instances where IRC servers do block java clients.

It can also happen with bad cache etc. So clear out internet temp files. At one stage, I needed to reinstall java run time on my PC and reboot my PC before I got rid of the dread Connect: null problem. So the server worked, but the PC did not.

Upload the CHAT folder to your forum's root directory, upload vbxirc_install.php to your admincp directory :)

i went to java.com and got the latest jvm. 1.4.2_05 and intalled it and rebooted. i also turned caching OFF.

When you reinstalled java it cleared the old cache.

People may forget that other than the web site needs to access to the IRC server. The client machine also needs to access to the IRC server after the initial connection. All the IRC sessions are sent directly to the IRC server, not via the web pages!

Oh its possible, However I've not found any good solution to it that i am confortable with.

Current Options:
Add a new sessions table for just the chat, then record as users eneter it, however this will give a false ammount of users on the chat if they enter via their own client.

Egg Drop:
using a bot to report to the site, this can be done already with VeloCD's system

mIRC reporting:
again can already be done with VeloCD's hacks/

Either Eggdrop or their java chat system was more than just a chat, as in it was also a server.

Sounds like a session was being kept for the java chat applet, this is just a IRC intergration to allow your users to chat on IRC. many of my friends and users moved from the java directly to mirc.

goto your admincp>options>vboptions>vbxirc settings. in the Irc Server, delete the irc.dal.net and insert: irc.vbulletin.nl
name your room.
hit save.

it should work now.

you're not putting the correct path to your folder. if you go to that file, right click it and select edit (via ftp). go to line 19 and your error is there. on lines 17 and 18 you will see your example of what yours may look like. it's supposed to be the location to your forum via ftp. for example, mine looks like: chdir('/home/dabombcrew/www/vb/');

goto===>line 19

fixing line 19 will fix your errors on line 44.

Thats what vBXirc is, pjirc. I have no current plans to write another chat intergration unless i write an offical one for vBulletin.com

Hi Zachery I am having a slight problem. I installed the hack fine on my dev server and it works like an absolute charm but am having troubles getting it to work in my prod server. The installation script didnt come back with any errors but i get the following database error when trying to launch vbxirc:

This is 0% intensive on the server, 99% of the work is done on the client end, and the rest is done on the IRC server :)

Do i need to download and install the java applet from pjirc? The latest version is 2.0.4. I thought that was included in the /chat folder in the zip file...

Try upgrading your java client and make sure your firewall allows port 6667

For PJIRC use the SUN java rather than the Microsoft one. At least they recommend it on their support site. :)

Hello... I just did all of the instructions and used the installer, all correct... I had hoped.

But when I click on either 'chat' links. I get a window that only shows links that have vb phrases... see attachment below, or http://www.4xtraders.com/forum/chat/index.php?

OK, I've been and reinstalled the board on my website because I wanted a different folder structure. So I successfully installed this hack on the vB skin, but is there meant to be a control group in the ACP for vBxIRC? Because if there is meant to be one, it isn't showing up at all in my ACP.

You would need to add a link to it or make a button in the header and link it there. This is not somthing i can help with really.,

Eddie - Something is definatly not edited right, the print_no_permission is a standard vB function, one of the files you are referenceing, i.e. global, or a functions is not being included properly. Make sure you go into the chat/index.php and change this:

the problem I encountered was that in the require once section, I put in some weird URL, so I fixed it and everything worked great. I love this chat, way better than that vBChat. I'm just gonna look to see if there are any hacks or add-ons to this one now.

Well, I am pulling my hair out on this one. I can see other sites just fine, but mine pulls the progrma up with the undefined strings. I have done EVERYTHING mentioned throughout this post and judging by the lack of response, I guess I am out of luck. I almost am led to believe that this might be an issue with Windows/IIS 6?

Once the script is done go to your Admin CP and you will see a new group of options called "vBXirc Settings". That is where you will modify the settings, add/edit modules, and add/edit new pages.

I have tried to loggout Admin and logged in again but it still doesent came up.

YES, simply once connected the users can get list of channels from the button in upper right coner. and/or type /join #channel if they know the name.

I installed the hack without any issues and at the first 5 minutes everthing seemed to work. But now he is disconnection me from every network no matter wheater I enter as a registered or unregistred user ..

What can I do ?

I found out the reason is that I cannot connect with a server
outside my country! But as I have an international forum are there any international servers also ? Also interesting wheater there are actually
servers which haven't forbidden the /list command ..

I talked to Stratics staff and asked if i was allowed to use java applet on my website to connect to their irc server, they said yes, and they are pretty international.

And it's working fine here, no disconnects.

Just go into their #help channel and talk to the staff if you need your own room set up. Rooms with no activity for 30 days will be pruned though.

Hello, is there any way, that i can make even my registered users, connect to IRC through this client, with custom names?

I mean take all names like Guest_??? and not keep their registered nicknames.

The reason i am asking that, is that many of the nicknames, of the users have in forum, are already registered in IRC, and then when the users connect, they dont provide the password, and they get disconnected.

So the question is, if i can make a rule, that all the users(guests or registered), could connect with a default nickname like Guest_???

Ps

If the answer on the above is yes, can u tell me a way to correct the help page(is there a page which i could change it?).

Finally, i assume that commands like /nickname xxxx(where xxx a custom nickname) work through the client yes? I ask that, so i can write on the custom help page i want to make, directions so they could take a new nick or ever register them)

well i have tested your hack, and i must say very
nice work, hack works perfectly without any problems at all

also i want to say few things :

in chat/index.php - i think that will be better
if you will use getpwd() function to get dir and with other function to remove the last dir from it

also very importenat - to add chan password - very neccery for
some ppl.

adding the /q, /w options like mirc have (Pm , whois)

and a very nice feature is connect via bnc
cuse some servers dont hide ip (like efnet) and dont want every guy that whois me see my ip...

chan is no problem, efnet is a open network

may I suggest http://cgiirc.sourceforge.net/ its a lot more widly accepted accross irc chat networks as a way to get on.

very easy to set up, just create a cgi-bin dir in your public_html dir ( or what may be / seeing yer using linux its all the same ) and drop in the files, then just fire up a browser and point it to the irc.cgi file

the current client gets spat out as it dont like the way it uses's ident and thinks your some random spambot, if u can get this script up and just link it on site, ill sort a config out that will keep the chan safe and secure and never fail to logon, hopefully this way can get bb247 chat working properly

My mod thinks that this is a problem with the client.

YES, simply once connected the users cangetlistofchannels from the button in upper right coner.and/ortype/join#channel if they know the name.Thanks, thatworks well. Is there any way that I can code the initial channel into alink? This would make it even easier for the newbies, with a menu listadded to the vB navbar like this:Chat

Clickinga specific channel name would launch the vBXirc and take them directlyto a specific channel. They would of course still be able to use thechannel button or /join to switch channels, but their entry channel would depend on which link they picked. That would be sweet!

Okay, I've just installed this, I can get it running okay but there's a few problems.
1) When loading the javascript chat, it gives off a warning window, which is completely blank, but you can click at it and it will show a certificate window (Also blank) and you can somehow okay it.
2) When the chat window isn't focused, then refocused it will show blank white parts, when you scroll the scroll bars the blank parts will re-show their contents.
3) After using this with mozilla firefox, it will stop the functions of the browser. You can't go to addresses, links wont work and etc. I've tried it in IE and it does the same problems of 1 & 2. I'm using windows XP with java installed.

Once the script is done go to your Admin CP and you will see a new group of options called "vBXirc Settings". That is where you will modify the settings, add/edit modules, and add/edit new pages.

I have tried to loggout Admin and logged in again but it still doesent came up.

Perhaps EFNET isn't supported with this client.

This is a nice hack but it can be abused by users, you can quit your session and connect to other irc servers by typing /server domain.com

Is it possible to block specific irc commands ?
