Thanks, that fixed that, but for some reason, it's not picking up usernames from the member names. If I have guest access turned off, it says I don't have access to that page... And not to nitpick, but graphics are missing?... I must've screwed up somewhere...

Odd. any non-alpha numeric characters are filterd out, anyone who would have a number in the begining of their name will be filtered out. so if there name comes down to somthing the IRC server doesnt like it assigns them a random nick.

Try asking them to do a hard refresh.

For the peepz that have "failed to open...." errors, just do what MrWee said above, add ".." as your chdir in the index.php.

Ok got a few small bugs though....

The boards logo and navbar dropdown images ain't showing since my admin cp says all images are in the image dir
What this hack does is look in the /chat/image dir for the pics, which ain't there ofcourse since they are in /image.

Further i tried to use my own header/footer/navbar instead of the vbxirc_ ones but that didn't work (no idea why $header instead of $vbirc_header doesn't work though).So i finally copied all header, footer and navbar templates into the vbxirc ones (eeeew that is so awefull, hard copying templates into other templates :( ) and it seems to work, partly. The navbar menu's show behind the xirc screen making them kinda useless.
Also all navbar links error since it keeps looking in /chat/ for them (for example, my usercp link in the chatnavbar links to /chat/usercp which is obviously wrong)

Finally a small request. If i log in from another place, and my home pc running mirc has the nick BarBeQue, which is also my board nick, then ofcourse the nick BarBeQue is already in use. So it defaults back to a Guest_??? nick. Would it be possible to default back to BarBeQue_??? instead (i rather have some number added to my nick then have a Guest nick)?

I tried too... but not only the images but all links are wrong....
Just added like 25 $vboptions[bburl]/ to 4 vbxirc templates, and i still don't have all links covered. Nor can i find the dropdown java menu pics (the one used for the chat, search and quick menu navbar menu's. Those are prolly defined somewhere else so i can't change that.
And the menu's still open behind the chat box.

All this hardcopying templates, edditting them feels just wrong. Now whenever the navbar changes cause i add a hack or just manually wanna make a new menu i have to do it in other templates too.
None of the other hacks i installed needed to use their own version of the header/footer/navbar. I want it to use the normal ones ($header and such).
If that isn't possible, i might just remove the chat integrated page and only leave the popup chat :(

Had the same problem after I got a member to download the zip for me. :rolleyes: Didnt like the custom headers and see no reason to keep them so I just stripped the vbxirc_ from the following three lines in chat/index.php

I recently posted a fix for this at my forums.

Apparently pjIRC and IE have some conflict on allowing Java to grant the needed permissions for it in order to function.


For reasons unknown, IE and Java, or maybe it's just this Java applet (pjIRC) and IE, don't get along.

In the case you accept a pop-up that says "grant permission to this applet," you likely aren't getting this error, and will be able to connect to our chat. Unless, you click "no" to that applet. The problem with not granting permission to this applet is you might not get the "grant permission" pop-up window ever again (well, maybe on reboot).

Java by default denies applets 3 of 4 permissions to Java sockets (your ip address/port), which are accept, connect, and resolve. It grants listening to the port, to see if it's available. This is why you sometimes get the pop-up that says "grant permission to this applet."

You can bypass this by editing your java.policy, forcing the 4 permissions for all applets under safe sockets.

To do this, first update your Java to the latest version (it goes quick):
http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp

Then, browse to the folder \program files\java\your_latest_java_version\lib\security\

(e.g. \Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\lib\security)

Now, modify the file "java.policy" in a text editor, such as Windows notepad.exe.

Replace it with all this:

for example my friend converted his site to Xhtml and had the right doctype and everything

Because your not using absolute paths rather relitive paths, you use page.php or folder/page.php rather than site.com/page.php.

Lol, i understand they you don't use absolute path, never said you have too.

But my board works fine, arcade hack, sidebar hack, shoutbox, all works fine, and all leave the links of vB and all hacks alone.

Then i add your vbxirc, and suddenly once i enter the vbxirc page, all links and pictures that work fine everywhere else stop working and direct to /chat/ dir.
(And i have seen multiple replies here of other users that experience the same link problem)

I'm using VB3 Gold and the chat itself works great. However, I have a few quick questions:

2). I'm not getting a smilie box even though I have this in my template: <param name="style:bitmapsmileys" value="true"> Should I be seeing a box to insert smilies a la the post reply function or does that code only allow chat to parse the smiley code into the actual smilies...that much works, just no box to insert them much more easily. I have the smiley option enabled under vbxIRC settings, by the way.

3). By default, I don't get an image that is supposed to be loading on the chat page at: /forums/chat/images/misc/navbits_start.gif . I've redownloaded the zip a few times and don't see this image included with the zip file, so I'm getting a broken image there. Am I doing something wrong or is it not included with the zip?

4). Finally, is there a way to apply template changes you make to one style to ALL your styles? That way, it wouldn't be necessary to edit them all if you change one.

Yes, I've read the readme.html and followed it 6-7 times and get the same results. The only thing I did not do was

I dont understand the point of making an installer. Just give us the files to update and instructions on what to edit! We'll take it from there. I personally dont like automated installations on forums. I'd prefer doing it manually, so I know whats being changed.

If you can upload the files we need to upload on the server and good instructions for the time being, that will work.

I've used Zachery's shizzle before and he doesn't do anything ambiguous. His hacks are designed to create the ease for the admins. Of course, they're all simple things, but several things. I'd prefer an installer that altered the templates (as long as I knew what exactly was being altered) than having to manually alter 5 templates and create 3, then change a php file. :ninja:

Its sad vb.com team members are unreliable here. If they are not capable of supporting a mod, then they should atleast mention it. I dont want to sit here and wait till he comes out with the new installer.

I do this of my own free will and time, i have alot of other work i do from day to day, the script as it stands now only has one bug that im aware of, i released a fix for the other. and that bug is if a member has numbers in the begining of their name.

I've got this running great, except the navbar links. When you click chat it tries to open forums/chat whereas I have forum/chat where do I make the change so the link works?

Would it be possable for multi channel support as our site has several channels and most people who use a java client vs +++++x or mirc can't gasp the concept of /join #channel

I upgraded vB a few weeks ago and the chat page broke. Now I tried to upgrade it and I'm still having a few problems.

First of all, when people visit the chat page, it says:
hConnecting...
Unable to connect : null

Also, in the AdminCP, all the titles of the options are blank. So is the title for selecting the option, I just have a blank line.

I remember fixing this ages ago when I first started using this script, but can't for the life of me remember how!

Hello, I've been running vBXirc for several months now with minimal problems. I am having one small problem and have a quick question:

As I mentioned a few pages back in this thread, I am not getting the smilies to appear at all. The option is definitely turned on within my settings and I haven't modified any of the chat templates in any way. Besides me, all the other users I talked to do not see a box either.

Finally, some of my users have complained that's it's too hard to tell if you have an incoming private message from another user in chat because there's no beeping sound like there is in mIRC. Ideally, I'd like to have incoming messages pop up in a new window but I imagine that would be too much work. If, upon receiving a new message, it would beep or flash their nickname, that would also do the trick. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Does anyone happen to use this hack on the DALnet servers? I've noticed the DALnet won't allow dial up users to use this hack. They always get klined. Broadband users have no problems at all. I figured there's something being done in the script with the hostname that might be freaking DALnet out. Anyone have an idea? Maybe there's something I can alter to prevent that.

I'm thinking it's because JavaUser ends up in the hostname and the DALnet network protects itself from Java-based users. Where could I change the default hostname to be something like ForumUser instead of JavaUser?

I have installed this hack.. and it refuses to allow users to log into the chat if they're logged into the forums. What's the deal with that? A cookie or security issue? I used to have a pjirc hack prior to upgrading to vb3.0.1 and it worked fine.

I had this working minus the fact dial up users were getting klined from my server until i installed this version. Ok, I found the code to change the popup I think inside the vbxirc_small template. It's the same as the code find/replace as the vbxirc_index template.

I have a question now though.

I want my navbar to look like the navbar on the rest of the site, with the BBtitle/link small, and where I'm at larger in bold beneath it unlinked. Like on the Arcade, or the Members List, the Calendar, etc, etc...

How do I do that?

I got all my issues fixed. Apparently all my problems were DALnet problems. Since my channel is relatively new, I just picked up and moved to a completely different network and everything works like a charm. What was the point of this?

People that are on my site/forums trying to get to chat it wouldn't let them for whatever reason if they were logged into the forums. If they were logged out it worked fine, something with the prefix |oR| I imagine even though you can use that on gamesurge. Regardless, by forcing people to login using the default oRForumGuest?? nick they CAN get in, then just change the nick to whatever they want.

Also I didn't like the popup option, and I also changed the navbar to use the sites main one as well as the footer, and included the breadcrumb as well. Now I'm trying to figure out why it doesn't show up in the Who's Online.

I added

FYI... to anyone that wants the breadcrumb to function, all you have to do is add in

// ## NAVBITS
$navbits = construct_navbits(array("index.php?$session[sessionurl]" => 'Chat'));

..to the chat\index.php anywhere in the file.

Then copy the chat\images\misc\navbits_finallink.gif file from the forums\images\misc location.

Viola!

those settings are done on your irc server. you will need to find a server that uses a nickserv and chanserv and go through those options to allow you to retake your room if theres not someone in it at all times.

hIBEES it's a matter of registering on your IRC server with the same username as your forums I would think. Even then I don't know that it would work because you're required to AUTH on an IRC network, and using a chat applet won't let you AUTH that I'm aware of from a script.

Guyz, not that i'm smarter then you or so. I'm no php guru like the others...
But i guess there comes no answer because it isn't a mod bug.
I also did this install for couple of times know. I got some similar errors to yours.
I re-did it and it works. You just have to watch out to modify everything correctly.
Mind the ' , {} () thingies. 1 miswritten chars can f u c k all up...

Because too many people complained that their own header / footer navars had the wrong links and or didnt take the time to read the original install instructions or did not know how to cary them out correctly

Also the navbar that vbulletin uses has the js menus in them which do NOT pop up rather popbehind the java application, because it is the active object not the html js menus.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what other ways of upload can I do to make it work? I have downloaded the files via HTTP, unzipped and put the files in the directory. That didn’t work so I tried uploading them with Frontpage but I get the same results. Thanks again for the help!

I've read over the instructions half a dozen times, it all looks good. I've uninstalled and reinstalled. However, I think the problems might come from a gap in my knowledge -

- Where are the IRC .zip and .rar files supposed to be installed? I wound up doing 'Extract to Here' for lack of other options. Is there anything else I need to do with them?

- To the best of my knowledge the IRC options are set up correctly (I used my own mIRC connection info for server, port, etc), but I'm a total mIRC newbie so it's possible I've made some newbie mistake.

Its more than possible to do that, but i recomend agasint it, as youll have a whole bunch more unnessary files in your directory.

Chage the index.php to chat.php and move all the files in the chat folder to the root forum folder, there you go

Just to load the client it will consume some bandwith, however, after that it uses their own bandwith like any regular mirc client would

Its just a java client. all data that is sent / recived is processed by the end user, the client it self is about the size of the zip. 250-500k? i havent checked recently to be honest.

It should be cached in their system after one or two visits.

Names should already be foramted and striped.

The only thing left over should be a-z 0-9 and a _

I have no idea on the beeps, but I think modifying this in the chat index template will change the size of the chat window. Change the width and heighth to what you want.

I have a 1mbps connection at home, which I assume is good enough to host an IRC room. I have downloaded various IRC server programs and I dont have a clue!

The beauty of this is you don't need to set up an IRC server. You just connect to an established IRC server and create a channel or connect to a channel you have registered. This is an improvement over the old chat hack I used that you either had to use WorldIRC or create your own IRC server. If you really want to set up your own IRC server... I don't know.

Well, I just replaced that template with the contects of my "navbar" template and it seems to work.

Hello, I tried the suggested way of showing how to add people in the chat to the who's online... but it didn't work...

My chat is in a popup window... is there a way for me to add users in it to the who's online...

It works now but what about the options not showing up in the AdminCP, I ran the script, it said it was successful but it's not there, It might be because of the previous error. I'm going to uninstal andre-install the script and see if that worked

EDIT: I uninsalled, Re-installed, went over the instructions again and it is correct and still no Options in my AdminCP

Does this work with 3.03? I just installed it and when I click on chat it does not log me in. It comes up with "You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:".

Then when I try and log in I get a 404 error "Page cannot be found" with this in the address bar: "http://www.geocachingmaine.org/forum/chat/login.php". I do not have a login.php in my chat directory. I have the proper line set correctly in my index.php in the chat directory. Is there something that I missed?

I got the chat to work partially. I was able to get the chat window to come up after finding a typo. Now within the chat window I get "Connecting....unable to connect: null".

Is this because I do not have a channel still? I have tried the commands that are in dal,net docs but don't know if I am doing them right because I can not get them to work. Help?

unable to connect: null means that the server cannot be reached, or doesnt support java clients.

To create a chatroom of your own, you need to be connected to the server and just try to goto a room that does not currently exist. So in your ACP where you select the server you wish to connect to, just put in your chatroom too. For example, my chatroom is called DKDChat. You should avoid spaces in your chatroom name as some servers do not accept them.

To create a chatroom of your own, you need to be connected to the server and just try to goto a room that does not currently exist. So in your ACP where you select the server you wish to connect to, just put in your chatroom too. For example, my chatroom is called DKDChat. You should avoid spaces in your chatroom name as some servers do not accept them.

Here is what I have in my ACP:
IRC Server = broadway.ny.us.dal.net
Port Number = 6667
Room Name = #geomaine

But every time I try and connect it gives me a "Unable to connect : null", I have tried changing my IRC Server to a couple different ones that dal,net has but still get the same things error message. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I got it working. I used irc.slashnet.org and was able to get a connection. I am a now a little confused as to how to become a moderator of the group.

& umm... okay, but how can del.net decide to ban java clients? They have hundreds of thousands of users, and java is sort of a mainstay. What else could be used?

Well, I just replaced that template with the contents of my "navbar" template and it seems to work.

Would it not have been better to tell your hack to simply use the "navbar" template? Makes sense to me.OK, I just figured this out.

If you want to use your regular navbar template instead of the one that is included with this hack, just do the following:

Open chat/index.php in your editor
Look for
eval('$vbxirc_navbar = "' . fetch_template('vbxirc_navbar') . '";');
And replace it with
eval('$vbxirc_navbar = "' . fetch_template('navbar') . '";');

That is it. Then you can delete the "vbxirc_navbar" template.

Now, if you want the navbar in your chatroom to be completely different than the rest of your site, just ignore these instructions and keep the "vbxirc_navbar" template. I did this on my site because when I add a new feature, I do not want to have to edit multiple navbar templates.
