Thanks.

Are you using the create review thread option by chance?

Sorry I think I miss understood that question. I have the "Create New Thread on Review" option in the Core Setting set to "No".

Sounds like your server does not have the GD image library installed. It's pretty common so check with your host about getting it added.

I'll check it ! Ty u.

Another question...Is there any way to create diferent types of reviews? Example: 1 for products and 1 for services......each one fo the types with diferent types of custom rating fields. ?

Ty !

Is this fine to install on 4.2?

See the mod description for compatibility.

Not at this time. The groupings apply to all or none...

Q: Can I put a prefix for each product and put it in title (same VB4 prefix)?

For example

[FOR SALE] thread title 1
[WANTED] thread title 2

And in (productforums.php) page, the user can filter the results as per the prefix

It will be very helpful if we can user the prefix feature

Thanks

You can use prefixes with your review threads which are picked up at the forum level like any other thread but I'm not sure what you're trying to do matches what the modification actually does... PRF is a structured product database meaning that someone must create an item with various fields that is distinct from other products and which can be reviewed or discussed (or both) depending on how you set things up.

Since products remain in the system as fixed items until an admin deletes them it's really not ideal for a barter type system which should allow for quick, user driven removal of filled requests.

Thanks dear but If I click (Add new product), there is no prefix field.
But after I submit it, if I edit it then I can see the prefix field.

Is it possible to put the prefix in (Add new product) page?

___________________________________

About the second point

I mean if you enter (www.domain.com/productforums.php), at the top there is many options to search (Category - Title - Manufacturer - Price (from - to) - Rating)

Can I add the prefix to that options? so I can search like this:
(examples)

Prefix: [For sale]
Category: IT Book
Price: 50 - 60
Search

OR

Prefix: [WANTED]
Category: IT Book
Price: 50 - 60
Search

It should be there... I'll take a look.

I mean if you enter (www.domain.com/productforums.php (http://www.domain.com/productforums.php)), at the top there is many options to search (Category - Title - Manufacturer - Price (from - to) - Rating)

The search system is pretty modular so you can certainly build this in yourself.

when I want to add a product, this message appears:

"This feature is currently not in use"

why?

when I want to add a product, this message appears:

why?

Because you didn't configure the options as the install file explains.

Sure. Just turn off replies in the forum where reviews go.

Not sure you understood what i meant fella..

Have a look at this.

Turning off reviews makes a review mod a bit of overkill as that's 92% of what it does but it's not hard. Just remove the review image and text from the product template, turn on replies in the forum's permissions (if you turned them off) and you'll be good to go.

I'm trying to edit this to work as a game library kind of like how you see game pages on IGN.com. I'm having trouble finding how to add new categories and edit the boxes available and add new boxes. Do you have a guide for that somewhere? I can't seem to find anything on the online guide.

Both categories and custom fields are listed as options in your Admin Control area under the Product Review Forums category.

The standard fields can be edited by modifying your templates, they are not dynamic.

Ted,

could you help me with the following litte issue I can't figure out myself where to change this?
I have created a custom yes/no field.
When the review get posted in the forum thread and I look at it it is not properly formatted.
Looks like this:
<strong>Did you own this product?</strong>: Yes<br />

The "Did you own this product" doesn't show in bold but the code is visible instead.
I am using vB 4.2.3

Thanks for your help as always

Well that's the problem, it only shows me

Product Review Forums - Core Settings
Product Review Forums - General Options
Product Review Forums - Styles & Options

And none of those include anything about the categories or custom fields.

There's always a risk to installing mods on older versions of forum software, especially when the version (while close in number) has significant feature differences.

However we can definitely get you around this by properly removing the code from the XML file.

Remove or comment out line 175 - 194 of your xml file and then upload it.

I'm not entirely sure why it's happening at all. The editor should strip out any tags it doesn't like...

What are your HTML settings for posts?

Filtering should stop any real abuse from HTML but from a design perspective it's certainly a smart call in my book.

More importantly however your settings should allow everything to parse properly.

If you don't mind, give this version of productforums.php a try (backup your current version first).

This one does work for the formatting. No issues even when HTML is off but it seems every review needs moderation even when I said NO in the options

Ok one more try using the most current public version with just the tweak made for this issue (the version I posted before probably had a few other new changes included as well).

I got some problems with this plugin.
One is that path where I put the imagines.
I set it like this:
/var/www/www.talkpoint.ro/imagini

But when I try to Sync them i get this error:
couldnt save the image for - skipping
All Done!
That folder has 777 permisions. If i try other combinations of path i get this error:
Couldnt save the image. Check your upload folder permissions.
In the first case, i find in folder IMAGINI some strange named jpg files with something_full.jpg,thumb and small at the end.

But nothing happens here. Still no pics:
http://talkpoint.ro/productforums.php?langid=1

Other questions:
Where I can remove SKU and EIN fields?
and it's possible to ADD pictures in "Full Description" field? If yes, how?
Thanks in advance

Very strange that something is getting saved as these errors occur when the script can't access a file at the end of the process. Try adding a trailing / to the end of your folder name.

Where I can remove SKU and EIN fields?

Pull them out of the product page template and, if you're letting users add products, out of the add product template. You should know however that without an identifier you can't import products.

Change to a new folder. Set the permissions. Check if the images are created in it and, if so, that they load.

It was because I was using URLs for the pics. If i upload the imagines from the computer the sync runs perfectly.
I start to adapt your addon for my needs, making him from products manager to Recipes manager.
Here is my status:
all recipes: http://talkpoint.ro/productforums.php?langid=7
an individual recipe: http://talkpoint.ro/retete-din-bucataria-romaneasca-169/salata-cu-ciuperci-1212/?langid=7

If you are kind, can you help me with 2 more things?

1. Its SEO problem. When I search on Google a recipe from my site, the return look like this:
Subiect: Tort de 1 Aprilie - Talk Point Forum
talkpoint.ro/retete-186/tort-de-1-aprilie-1221/ - Translate this page
Informatii despre reteta... Vizualizeaza mai multe detalii.
which is the equivalent with returning this:
Varname $vbphrase[productforums_emptyproduct]
Text Product information... View for more details

I want to return that variable with short description. Where I can do this modification? and which is the name of that variable.

2. When I create a new recipe I want to slip in 2 the Full Descrition block: 1 area where i put the Ingredients and 1 where i explain how to prepare it. Which are the files/templates that I have to modify.

Thanks in advance!

Can this MOD handle more then one area for Reviews, and can it handle more then one Admin of the Reviews.

I have multiple vendors who use my forums, and I would like to be able to setup a "Product Review' area for each of them to maintain and Admin. As well as having a Global "Open" review area for forum members to use for things which the vendors do not supply. (If any of that makes sense)

So Vendor "A" has his own Product review area, where he can list his "Stuff" and allow (Or not) people to give him feedback on said Item.

Same would go for Vendor "B" and his area would not interfere or display anything for Vendor "A" (And visa versa)

Add to this an "Open" area for members to add stuff to if they so choose.

So when a Member comes into the forums, they can look at everything that Vendor "A" has to offer (And nothing from Vendor "B" etc..) and read people opinions on Vendor "A"'s stuff only.

Scratch

The mod will work across an unlimited number of forums each of which can have any standard forum settings you like although the product / review elements will be constant (i.e. all custom fields show up on all reviews).

Where things get tricky is in adding products when you want selectivity.

I'd suggest you add all of the "authorized" people to a custom usergroup and grant just that group access to add items with a hidden "pending products" forum for them to go to (user generated products all go to one forum). As you approve them you can move them to the right vendor area.

Make sense?

$ is not a value that searches particularly well so you'd essentially have to do a few things...

1. Create a ranking system where $ = 1, $$ = 2, $$$ = 3, etc.

2. Modify all instances of the add product page (admin in php and user side in templates) to use these values with the associated names

3. Modify the search page to show the same dropdown (template) and then search on it rather than ranges (php)

It's not crazy code but it certainly takes some tweaking.

We'll always try to help but as you'll see, while most things worked for him, there were a few backwards compatibility issues. There's usually no issue within versions but 4.2 takes a major jump in a few templates & core components that are well used by this addon.

Hi!. I made this Open: forumdisplay.php in a text editor

Find:

$templater = vB_Template::create('threadbit');

Replace with:

if($foruminfo['productforumsbits']){
// adjust this to your images folder, for products w/o an image
if(!$thread['mainphoto_small']){ $thread['mainphoto_small'] = '/images/rating/pf/noimage-40.png'; }
$thread['pf_rating'] = vb_number_format($thread['pf_rating'],1);
$templater = vB_Template::create('prodforums_threadbit');
} else {

}

How do I change the fields? Is it possible to add custom ones?

One thing I can think of right off the bat is I really don't want the 'manufacturers' field there at all that one does me no good.

Any options or workarounds to add, customize or at least remove fields? I'd like to change a few in the 'additional options' as well.

Also, after trying to submit a product to the product forums I set up on my test site, all my thread says is this,
"Product information... View for more details "

No images no rating things no nothin

When using this mod on the test site, I get the following error when trying to view activity.php (EVEN if I disable the activity stream option in the product review settings)

Fatal error: Declaration of vB_ActivityStream_View_Perm_Product_Review::fetchT emplate() must be compatible with that of vB_ActivityStream_View_Perm_Base::fetchTemplate() in /home/xxxx/public_html/testvb/vb/activitystream/view/perm/product/review.php on line 19

Edit** I disabled the add-on and I'm STILL getting that error when I try to view the activity stream... argh how do I fix it? Somehow I assume I have to remove the product review entries from the activity stream somehow or something. Help please

Nicely done....

After you remove a mod, bits of information lingers in the activity system and a cleanup (whether an upgrade or just clearing the system stuff) should help.

I'm using 4.2.1 fresh install.

Any plans on fixing the activity stream bug?

Also how do I remove the entry from the activity stream so its not broken? I've disabled the mod but the stream is still broken.

This is the first time hearing about it where it wasn't cleared up with a reinstall... One site is hard to identify or isolate (i.e. there are endless possible conflicts) but for several, absolutely, bugs are no good :eek:

The attached version of PRF removes the activity stream section without impacting any other functions.

For those who were having issues with the system, please give it a try and we will proceed from there developing further fixes to bring that back.

I'm not the only person who has a problem with this mod breaking the activity stream, there are a few others in this thread. So it's definitely not just one site.

I'll try reinstalling the mod again like you suggested. If that doesn't work I'll use the version you provided that doesn't use the activity stream.

Also, there isn't really a need for the updated xml you provided because so long as the mod doesn't insert anything into the activity feed it's fine. And you already have an option in the current mod to turn that off. I tested it just now the activity feed works fine so long as the mod doesn't create entries for it. specifically, replies/review entries in the activity stream from the product forum dont break it, just the 'new thread' entries. It's the new thread entries in the activity feed that cause it to break, not replies or reviews.

We've had a few mentions but as far as I can tell, all resolved (from a reinstall , option changes, or the person moved on and thus we couldn't track it down). Now that there are two of you reporting a problem actively, we can call it a bug.

The activity stream is not really designed to be bolted on top of, at least not in a graceful way, which means errors become significant impacting more than just the mod.

Sites using older vB versions are prone to these sorts of collisions and not something we can stop but if there's a problem impacting new installs, we consider it reason to remove the feature and revisit it, if there's even demand to do so.

Assuming everything else works right for you and the other site reporting this in the activity-stream free version we'll change our standard download and take it from there.

Thanks for the report & follow up!

You can add new fields for reviews through the ACP (there's a manger tool under the PRF group).

Other fields would require hacking the hack (templates to capture the data, table fields to hold it, queries to show it) although we'd be glad to add a few more hook locations if you want to make it more modular.

Awesome!

Yeah, between you, Michael and Christos we have a real cool way of selling reviewing and marketing on a few different levels.

As most mod makers here know I have gone overboard in trying all the best, and worst mods, and quite clearly got myself a bit TOO modified.

BUT it seems I'm one of the few sites that is trying to flesh out the CMS, as a publishing suite.

Marketing wise, if you don't own a vB site, and if you do and don't know or use vb.org, no one would know about these wonderful mods you guys make.

I think a lot more people would start building with vB4 particularly if they could have a decent, understandable way of seeing the mods in action. MOST mods I want to see in action are either dead links or something displayed in the default template.

The bigger mobs are getting their act together, this isn't another go at you Ted...lol...just an observation, and seem to be co opting the best mods into their various systems. I get freaked out just thinking of VHS vs Beta still, :erm: this issue of incompatibility.

To that end I offered vBSocial an opp to promote their products live on my site so that people can see them working. For their mods its a certain as they are not content providing mods, more familiarisation mods for vB.

Whereas yours, Christos and Michael's, and many others are proactive modules that a lot of site builders would only dream of, and I think if more widely put out there and branded for vB and the Mod maker could only enhance vB's potential.

But seriously most of this crew are Forum builders and don't even use the cms, or just use it cold as is, the Blogs and calendars are probably the MOST important parts of the suite as I need it and are totally overlooked.

Sorry for the rave Ted

Sorry for the rave Ted

No problem and I totally agree.

I started releasing mods way back when vB was new (and before it on UBB) because it came apparent that there just wasn't any sort of marketing / ux approach to the software. Not that I have all the answers but work in digital marketing for enough years and you start to see things from a different perspective. That's gotten better over the years but if you look at something like the registration page in 4/5 it's clear there's still a huge miss...

These days we try and turn a few features into reality when we think it helps the community but of course free mods for a widely used system are inherently limited in their scope and scale.

As such it's my belief that any site which really wants to scale (and even bigger boards who want to improve value / traffic / use) should be investing heavily in custom development or at least extending mods. To think that a skin, couple of basic mods and particular setting choices will make a forum ideally meet an industry is really missing the point.

Of course we don't actually do any such work so it's sort of a half baked remark :D

No I have been using the product submission form, this section of the forum will run almost entirely off products submitted by members so this feature likely won't be used at all.

Also, if (!can_administer('canadminposts')) does not show up in the productforums.php file I have. I narrowed it down to canadminposts for a search in the file and it doesn't exist.

Another question, is there anyway you can write up a quick plug-in that hooks into showthread somewhere that registers the {vb:raw product.productid} variable for use in the showthread template of my product forums?

The reason for this is I've already added a custom 'write a review' button elsewhere on that page, a big blatant one, but I need to be able to append the product ID to the URL so it works and goes to the write a review page when it's clicked.

Try editing the hook showthread_post_start and adding

$thread['productid'] = $product['productid'];

Right after $show['largereplybutton'] = false;

This will make the variable thread.productid

That error indicates an issue with making the post for the review.

How you go about fixing it is of course difficult if you're not willing to upgrade but in many cases these errors are due to other settings (like requiring prefixes) that we've since build workarounds for).

If you search productforums.php for that error code you can find the section that triggers it and force a hard error (i.e. see the exact problem) by adding the code echo $errors; die; before the eval code.

Ted, do you see any reason why this mod would not work in a mobile theme? The prodforum_* templates did not exist in the mobile skin, so we manually created them all there but the links are not clicking from the review forum and when we manually go to a review thread, it's not showing the product information at the top of the thread - it just looks like a regular vb mobile thread display.

Are the right hooks in your mobile theme to pull the templates in?

Perhaps the best bet is to add a couple "echo" statements around the xml file for a quick test to see if it's a problem with the mod getting called up or the templates showing up.

You certainly don't have to but it's an effective way to debug where the issue is. If the echo statements show up, you know the mod is getting loaded and it's a problem with templates rendering them out.

I wrapped it around the XML in product_forums.xml and reinstalled the product into vbulletin. It appeared to update something in all skins and I saw no errors (I also saw nothing get echo'ed back - but it went by all very fast in the install).

Links in the product review forum still do not click through to the corresponding threads. It is not the default vb mobile style, it is another mobile style designed for vB Suite 4.1.x.

It's not quite that simple... to test you'd have to add it to varrious plugin routines inside the xml script so that echo statements are invoked as you load the pages you want to test (for example, you could echo back a test on the thread / product page or on the forum / product list).

As for how to fix it, I'd still suggest starting with the debugging to insure the mod is getting fired up but that's probably the case which means template hooks become the issues. For that you need to open up a default vB template and your mobile skin's (i.e. SHOWTHREAD which holds the product information) and see which hook variables have been removed.

If that sounds like greek, as the mod author if they ported over all the standard hooks into their SHOWTHREAD and FORUMDISPLAY templates.

Got it figured out. I dug through the plugins and traced everything back to the following, in case anyone else runs into the same issue. Tom, you were correct in that the template hooks are not there by default in mobile styles. I also had to manually create each of the prodforum_* templates in our mobile style for some reason, but that's not a big deal.

The plugin renders the product information at the top of the showthread template into a template called showthread_above_posts. I looked for the hook inside of the SHOWTHREAD template in the mobile theme and it's just not there, so I added it in as follows:

{vb:raw template_hook.showthread_above_posts}

All is well!

You can certainly try shifting the function around to see if it helps.

Functions stackoverflow shows people using for transparency:
imagealphablending($pathname, false); imagesavealpha($pathname, true);

New issue though. The 'matches' page that lists the reviews of a particular product, the page you are viewing when you click the 'reviews' area of a product in the product list, it doesn't load properly.

The reviews show 'outside' the body of the main forum, almost like there's a missing div tag, or some sort of issue like that I can't figure it out.

Like if you view, yourforum.com.com/productforums.php?do=matches&productid=4

it's layed out wrong for some reason.

It's correct here, yourforum.com/productforums.php just not on the matches page to view reviews.

I tried to open both templates side by side to see what could be missing from the matches one but I couldn't figure it out. I suppose it's possible the issue is in the productforums.php file itself but I'm not sure.

A fix for this would be appreciated.

edit; I'd also like to know if there's any simple way, or known websites we can get this xml file to import mass products from? If a website's RSS feed is in xml format, is there a way to use that?

I mean I definitely don't have any scraping software to go through websites, compile all the exact data I need them format it into an XML file I can import into the product :P Any help on this would be appreciated by myself and many others I'm sure.

I'm not seeing this in our test build but will take a deeper look later in the week to be sure there aren't any hanging tags in the template.

Many vendors can provide XML feeds of their products which can be used or reformated through a simple dataset tool to match the right field names and ordering.

Of course there's no central repository for product data out there so you'd have to ask each individually.

Really love the idea of this hack but the buttons look really rough on our forum.

Can someone good at coding tell us where/how to change the template(s) so that the review button is moved from up top, to the side?

This is how it should look when finished (see screenshot).

Quick Update;

So many issues with this hack, where to begin?

For starters, none of the 'manage' buttons work. They show my test review, but won't let me manage it. When you click on it it says no review exist, even though one is on the forum.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to add images. Yes the image directory path was typed in.

These are just the beginning of problems we're seeing. Not sure if these issues are 4.2.1 related or hack related, or both.

And yes of course we tried to read the instructions (see screenshot) but it's kind of hard to read black text on a black background :rolleyes:

Very disappointed :(

Version 1.3.9 has been released which resolves a few bugs in the past release including a significant issue a handful of forums had with the activity system.
This update will remove the activity system edits (which is unfortunately not nice and modular like most of vB4) returning actions to that of normal forum posts.

If you are not having issues, no upgrade is needed.

First of all, can't thank you enough for this awesome mod. I've been trying to find something like this for a while in order to begin building a community site I had in mind.

Anyway, I recently installed it and since my site is more focused on beer, I made a few changes to the original files to make it more in line with reviewing beers. As you can't actually buy beer from breweries, I had to make some slight changes in regards to the default options and such. I'm also looking into changing the rating system a bit so it incorporates a .25 rating system rather than by whole digits from 1 - 5.

I know that this mod is part of a larger project with giftery.me, however, as my site doesn't truly focus on the purchase of products, I can't really use the giftery.me 'list' feature. I think this is my biggest request. I'd love a way to figure out how to make internal 'Wants' and 'Gots' lists. This way, users can look at beers listed on the site and check off the beers they have in house and also the ones they'd love to have. Perhaps even incorporating this into the user profile so others can see their wants and gots.

Also, the other thing that I have yet to see that builds off the lists is a matching feature. I don't have the know how to figure out how to match users by their wants and gots.

Those would be my two biggest requests. Are you planning anything like this in the future? Also, is there another way for me to support your development as integrating with giftery.me doesn't make suense based on my product base?

Ted S
10-16-2013, 06:46 PM
Thanks for the kind words (and reposting this in the forum, we're big believers in letting the community see & respond to all questions / concerns / ideas).

Essentially what you're looking to do isn't rocket science at its basic level but it quickly grows into something that's very specific and really not an addon so much as a customization (i.e. you're not just trying to capture a "want," you're talking checklists, sharing, presumably some privacy options, etc).

Matching and interest recommendations even more so... you can build a simple formula or set of rules (i.e. A+B+C = you want D) or start getting into automated logic. Still not rockets but maybe hobby ones...

I like to think of addons (all of them) as a base step. A feature layer to get you core functionality and build off of. What developers tackle is just a base and won't ever match a site's full needs exactly but rather gives you a working step forward that may need a few design hacks or, in cases like this, some decent code additions.

I know this is not what you want to hear but even if "wants" were in our roadmap (they're not, in fact, we have not been asked for them before), it would still be miles away from what it sounds like you specifically need.

The addon was unable to create your product's thread resulting in a critical error.

This is usually a function of a particular setting on the product forum, such as having it as a category or requiring pre-fixes when none are used. Review those types of options first.

If it persists, open up admincp/productforums.php and go to line 330

BEFORE it add:

I wish to remove "Headline" for the review.

I was able to remove that field so they dont appear as an option for a review, but once a review is submitted, i still get an error that filed needs to be filled out.

"You did not provide a headline for your review.""

I want to remove that completely.

Where in which file do i remove the code? I tried removing:

if !$vbulletin->GPC['headline']){ $errors = "You did not provide a

headline for your review.<br />"; } // must have a headline)

From the productforums.php, But i get an error when a review is submitted:

We had an issue posting your review, please try again or contact support and use code 164251-E."

This is the Product Review add on, not the helpfulanswers add on. So there is no helpfulanswers.php file for me to edit.

Right idea, wrong name... Nice catch :D

"You did not provide a headline for your review.""

Every post need a subject line. In this addon we call it the headline but that's the role it plays technically so you can't just remove it, rather you'd need to replace it with something lower on in the code.

i.e.

$headline = 'Another review';

Of course this is moving further away from the addon's core and thus risks breaking more things, obviously manual changes for upgrades. Be careful, changes to how threads are made can have disastrous results.

Thank you for responding! I appreciate that! :) I did as you said, but the same error came up when I tried again. No additional information sadly.

However, whenever I try and edit existing products I get "Database error "Warning: mysqli_query() [function.mysqli-query]: (42S22/1054): Unknown column 'uploadimg' in 'field list' in [path]/includes/class_core.php on line 1391".

So that's something. I went to that path and found line 1391 and it's:

if ($queryresult = mysqli_query($link, $this->sql, ($buffered ? MYSQLI_STORE_RESULT : MYSQLI_USE_RESULT)))

I have no idea how I'd go about fixing or what is wrong. If someone tells me to go to a line of code and put something in or replace something, I can do that. But beyond that I have no idea what I'm doing X_x Is there anything I can do? The review forums have become a big part in my forum and I'd really really hate to lose them.

That's a good start...

Sounds like the addon was unable to alter your database, so let's do it the fun way:

Run the queries below (via your AdminCP, mySQL shell or something like phpMyAdmin):

ALTER TABLE pf_product ADD uploadimg TINYINT NOT NULL DEFAULT '0';
ALTER TABLE pf_product ADD mainphoto_small VARCHAR(150) NOT NULL DEFAULT '';
ALTER TABLE pf_product ADD uploadimg mainphoto_thumb VARCHAR(150) NOT NULL DEFAULT '';

If you are using table prefixes, those go before pf_product but without spaces (i.e. vb_pf_product).

Paths are server specific. You would need to work with your host to find out this information if you don't have direct access to it via FTP, SSH or some other means.

Once again, you need to talk to your host about paths, they are not universal and can vary widely by server. It's not about not wanting to help, it's about the inability for anyone on the outside to know. Having your domain does not change that.

For example, while /var/www/ is a common root path up to domain profiles, httpdocs is probably below the web accessible layer, but it doesn't have to be.

That said, if you're not starting with a /, the path will add on to the current location of the script in the same way a link without http:// will add on to your current domain.

i.e.

(Assuming forum ticked to accept these of course)

Sweet we're all good now :)

just started adding listings and wondering if there was a way we could change the colour of the '[County]' text for each product?

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2014/04/10.png

i copied the url to get the path and its showing this as the url

so i went into the server to see if that image was there but it isn't, it shows these..
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2014/04/13.png

It looks like the code in the .php file isn't pointing to the right image filename. I think i just need to rename the image path in the code somewhere
from stars--5.png to stars-green-5.png

but imagine this will need to be done for all the images, correct?

how and where do i do this?

When you create a product, you have to pick the forum for it to go in. Reviews will follow up on that product's thread and optionally to a review forum (but just one review forum regardless of category).

The XML importer uses some basic vBulletin libraries to clean up content and insure there's nothing bad in your file. Nothing else happens to the data so that's the only possible problem I can think of at a glance.

You can try disabling this by commenting out or removing line 1651 of admincp/productforums.php

If this solves things, I'll write a custom cleaner for the mod. If not I'll PM you to get the full XML file and debug it.

// $product->description = normalize_str($product->description);

Great start, but this thing has some major issues! The main one is the editor which produces walls of text and strips out all formatting. Line breaks are a thing!

Other than that, widgets are a necessity (hopefully those are coming). Being able to choose some product description fields (books might be hardcover, softcover, PDF, for example). And 5-star rating systems are very broad.

But that wall of text is no good! It cripples the entire mod.

Bizarrely, if you edit the post afterwards, you can format it. But no user is going to do that!

Thanks for the quick reply. I've just searched the thread and saw someone else had similar formatting issues which did not get resolved. So I guess it's not a quick fix.

Full WYSIWYG is on (and also works elsewhere on the site/forum just fine). In the reviews area, though, no WYSIWIG, and all formatting and line breaks get stripped even when pasting in a formatted post from elsewhere. As mentioned, you can proceed to edit the post and get the WYSIWIG editor to appear and fix it all, but not on the initial "new review" page.

OK, I've spent a couple of hours scouring the mod for every WYSIWYG option I could find, along with the core vBulletin settings. It's set to yes everywhere I look, so I'm pretty much at a loss unless I've managed to completely miss some obscure setting somewhere. WYSIWYG has been working fine on the forums, CMS, blogs, everywhere for years, though.

If the information is of any help, I do get a smaller text box when WYSIWYG is switched off for the reviews system, and a larger one with an expand drag thing in the bottom right when it's switched on.

I've attached another image which might help.

Yep, that's right.

I've been doing a bit of work in the meantime. Easier stuff than vBulletin editors. I've gotten it to compile all use reviews into a percentage (so it looks a bit like Rotten Tomatoes) and label low scoring items as "fumbles" and high scoring items as "crits".

Out of interest, how is the landing page sorted? At first I thought it was newest added first, but some items get added in the middle or the bottom of the list. Is it reverse alphabetical order?

Playing around as promised and I'm still not sure what's causing this for you...

Using a completely clean install, there's no issues preserving line breaks as you can see at http://vbulletin.moderninsider.com/ (no min posting to review, no limit on reviews / product).

This opens up the question as to your specific settings. Since we've got the basics, let's talk details... editor options? html allowed? bb code allowed? moderation?

And of course the most basic... you are using 4.2.2 for sure, right (this is the #1 cause of compatibility issues so sorry for asking twice).
