And where can I do that?

Your template manager. Just search it out and change as desired...

The buttons use to be individually selectable but vBulletin option pages are just too confusing to have 4 more fields in it.

Sure thing. That will move to the WYSIWYG editor anyways.

What mod or feature is pulling that in?

Assuming the mod grows in installs we'll be writing an image uploader to resize the photos and do a thumbnail / medium / large version.

Whoa, does this mean we're going to be using the WYSIWYG editor to add our content? Not the box that is current?

Eventually, yes. Of course you'll still be able to post HTML if you prefer.

Then your question needs to be explained further as what you asked to change is text:

Its called Fri Nov 4th, 2011

A VERY useful feature would be if other users could mark a review as Helpful or Useful (similar to a "like" "thanks" or thumbs up/down mod). Most review sites (including Amazon) now feature this. That way people can tell which reviews for a particular product/etc have the best content. Ideally, those reviews with the most helpful content would be displayed first.

That feature, and showing thumbnails in the review listings would be 2 huge improvements..
Thanks!

Ted S
11-06-2011, 06:55 PM
Since we also created the helpful answers feature I'm sure we can find a way to add thumbs :D

However it's really broader than that. A review is naturally biased by the person and their relationship to the object. Someone who eats at 5 star restaurants and goes to a 3 star diner is going to have a different read than someone who eats at home and goes out for the first time in a year. That's not an easy solve, heck, the best solution right now is to aggregate "about me" tags with reviews but we're thinking about what could be done knowing the detailed nature of a forum to go deeper and provide not just acceptance of a review, but context.

Hi Ted,

I'm not having much luck with the bulk import. Attached is a file I tried to upload, I got the "All Done" message, but no products appeared.

XML does not require a field order nor are extra fields like the style and setting elements in your file an issue.

However, your format is not even close to what the importer. You'll want to review the documentation and included sample feed to see the structure as you have to follow the right convention [i.e. <product> records] and field names.

Hey Ted, we're seriously considering installing this on one of our big boards, which has a ton of reviews in the old GARS system. The only thing holding us back is that we need to be able to rate a product on multiple categories.

Can you confirm that this is something that will be available in a future revision? If so, we'll go ahead and implement it as-is now.

Also, and this is just a "would be nice to have", although I doubt you'll think it's worth your time. A means of porting GARS reviews over into the new system would be amazing.

Thanks so much.

Phrost,

Additional rating fields will be added in down the road but I can't promise them next week [metaphorically] and that means you may want to wait a bit.

We'll see about an import script. Tends to be difficult as there isn't a shared ID to key from A to B but we'll see.

Many thanks for this mod Ted S. Where do products go if you forget to assign them to a forum during product creation? I think I must have done that on three occasions because when I bring up the 'manage products' list it is showing me 25 of 28 products. I need to delete those three and create them correctly. Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick response. We'll go ahead and install it. We've got a product from VBCover that we were testing, but it uses encrypted scripts which slow down the server.

Heck, have you thought about just taking over GARS? That was such an amazing product, and it's a shame that they've basically abandoned it. I'm sure whoever has the rights to it would be happy to fork them over to someone who'd get it up and running again.

Honestly it's just not our approach. Our mods are designed to solve specific gaps we see in the industry, which we develop privately and on occasion will roll out to the public as was the case here.

While we may end up with something with similar features to fill in requests from members like yourself, being the all inclusive feature or most used program is not the goal. There's no up-sell, monetize it model for us aside from data insights.

You need to have configured the default forum option and of course enabled the option to let members post products. Both are in the Product Forums admin options.

Thanks for this Ted S, this is something I will definitely follow closely.

At the moment its not as developed as I'd like it to be and Ill just wait a few more months till all these features are added before installing it. Certainty won't mind paying up for a premium version of this with all the planned / suggested features. I mean just got custom simple custom coding done and it already cost me a few hundred and i'm sure theres alot of people like me who have been looking for this and will pay good money, if it was something truly stand out.

Suggestions:

I think more attention should be paid to the formatting with pre-defined categories. So for example if we choose "book" category the pre-defined style (you can customise) is chosen. The reviews can have their own custom fields like "readability of book" which you can enter unique to that category. And when the review comes out its automatically formatted such that image size is smaller(than say travel), etc, i mean just provide a template for each new category which we can edit ourselves would be good enough.

Another suggestion would be displaying similar products, having a filtered search system, making use of the tags to find similar products.

Also more attention should be given to people who leave reviews, a "read all reviews" below thier name, option for them to be a top 10 reviewer, average rating of their reviews, how many reviews they gave, etc.

And of course these implemented in the CP so pple can choose to use them or not.

Hope these suggestions help build a even strong product, will check in again soon :)

We don't do premium mods, over the long term it's just not financially practical to support someone for years over a few dollar sale, nor is mods our business model. But thanks for the vote of confidence in the idea!

As far as your suggestions -- great comments all around.

Of course there's always a line between a solid general mod and something specific to a particular site. Category dimensions are great but vary widely and it's just not practical for us to build books vs dvds for a handful of sites when one site will use "readability" as 1/10 and another prefers "page turning" as a yes/no even within the category. Thus we're looking at custom fields that would let you build in what you want.

The same issue is of course true in the mod in general. Putting out a release with a core feature is something we feel benefits the community and us but while we'd like to tweak it into something that really breaks the mold not just for forums [i think even basic structured data does that] but for the ecomm / online research world, there has to be enough use to justify it.

Usage grows over time and we tend to let it mature before going as far as we'd like to make sure what we're doing is indeed useful.

If you want to customize your url structure it would take a bit of work to find each link but should not be difficult to add a title too and then remap with htaccess as you see fit.

Hi Ted - I must admit, I am struggling with this. I can find the links, but I am not sure which variable I need to add in order for the product name to be added to the URL - using {vb:raw title} for example causes the URL to have a number of spaces in it - which is obviously messy.

I would quite like to do this for the Categories as well, so it would look like mypage.com/category/computers - rather than mypage.com/productforums.php?catid=1

Any help would be much appreciated on this.

Will you be adding the option for custom fields? It's the main thing holding me back from adding hundreds/thousands of products with the bulk upload.

Also, speaking of the bulk upload - do you have any data mapping services you would recommend? It's taking me quite a long time to organise the data in Excel and then format it to the required XML format. I know you mentioned before that CSV upload wasn't an option - but this would be a million times easier.

Finally, I know we spoke before about mass editing - I'm concerned that with all the data being uploaded, it is likely to change on a regular basis - could an option be created whereby if a product is added with a matching SKU to a previous product, then it overwrites the previous fields?

Many thanks for your Mod again.

The script doesn't do this, you'd have to either build it yourself or make a manual mapping through htaccess to trick things.

For example, you can edit the plugin to output a second variable, {vb:raw urltitle} which runs through the php function urlencode() first or which has spaces and special characters removed / converted.

$product['urltitle'] = str_replace(" ", "-", $product['title']); // spaces become dashes
$product['urltitle'] = preg_replace("/[^A-Za-z0-9\_\- ]/", '', $product['urltitle']); // removes anything but letters, numbers, dashes and underlines

Assuming the mod keeps picking up use, yes, we will be.

I know you mentioned before that CSV upload wasn't an option - but this would be a million times easier.

CSV is a pain to parse as you're counting by the number of comma separated items, not the element names. That means you still have to build the structure, but if you mess up with a single column or special character, the row is skipped or, as is so often the case, gets brought in incorrectly.

I'm sure there's a tool that can convert out from CSV and over to XML easily.

Finally, I know we spoke before about mass editing - I'm concerned that with all the data being uploaded, it is likely to change on a regular basis - could an option be created whereby if a product is added with a matching SKU to a previous product, then it overwrites the previous fields?

Right now the XML importer throws away duplicates but we can certainly have it update records instead keying off of a UPC / SKU / title match.

Thanks Ted - will give it a shot.

On another note, is there any possibility of expanding the search options to search for all relevant keywords in the description as well? For example, at the moment a user can search by title, but say they were looking for reviews of a particular product type, say Black Television, or Smart phone - and these words aren't included in the title, then they don't appear in the search or filter results - it's not the best user experience.

Additionally, allowing a user to sort reviews by say price, or popularity (views) or # of reviews, or even newest first would also be helpful.

Thanks.

Certainly possible however we'll likely need to move the mod over to a FULLTEXT index to allow for a more sophisticated matching process rather than looking up individual words. We've come up with a weighting system that makes this work better than many are use to with similar searches but it does slow down the speed of the addon and is certainly not a perfect search solution

Most installs turn off posting in that forum and use the link in productforums.php to startup products since this is not a common task. Reviews are started from within a product thread.

I don't have an ETA on the next update at this point. We're hoping for more interest in the mod to warrant a large update soon but if not we'll continue to make small updates to support those who are using it.

On another note, have you noticed any issues when mass importing? I'm trying to import around 800 products and it kept hanging after just 2 - so I split the file in to 2 and now the first file hangs on the first product, and the second gets to about 80 and also hangs.

It loads past the import page, to the page where each product is shown and imported, and then hangs there.

Normally I would split them up further, but I would rather resolve this issue - since I have another file with over 8,000 products ready to go :)

The issue with the importer was duplicate product titles which try to create duplicate threads and stop the new thread routine cold in it's tracks.

This copy of admincp/productforums.php should fix that but it may be a little aggressive in sorting out what's a dup. Let me know.

Is there anyway to get this for 3.8? Maybe for a paid mod?

While the code would be similar 3.8 and 4.0 are very, very different in how they approach templating and to some degree plugins / values. You could certainly make it happen but you're not talking about hiring someone for $50, there'd be a lot of work involved if you chose to bring in an outside coder.

While all of our older mods support the 3.x series, moving forward we're exclusively building for 4.0 and up.

Hi Ted - any chance of making this work with the Google search API for shopping (http://code.google.com/apis/shopping/search/v1/reference-overview.html)?

That depends on how you see the two playing together...

APIs like this still require you to have a list of products in the system to look up. Google could be integrated to pull back more details, even local stores that sell the item, but not so much to start threads automatically.

If your goal is to get items to list you'd need to get Google's Product Feed. From working extensively with datafeeds I can you tell we're talking serious data, millions and millions of records. Fun stuff too. :D

So without going into a long story, I discover today that in order to access and/or use the settings part of this mod you basically have to have Super Admin permissions.

So my question of coarse would be, is there anyway around this? If I use this feature on my site it will be ran by moderators without super admin access to the admincp. There is noway I want to have to sit on top of a mod such this one that has all it's useability done through the admincp. I'm not sure why any mod that is not a high intake money type mod would need to have super admin access to it's controls. If I appear to be slamming this mod I do not mean for it to come off like that. I apologize to anyone that may take it negatively. So is there a possible solution to get around this?

You don't need to be a superadmin, you need to be an admin.

In development you make decisions, one of which is to build more features or build less for more user types. Most of boards prefer more functionality but it's never going to be all inclusive.

We chose not to redevelop every admin feature for the mod cp as in most forums content is also approved by the top of the team, not the middle. If you don't work that way you can port the features from the admin cp to the mod cp or give more mods limited admin access.

It depends on how you want to run it. You could in theory port the API to show ads or buying options on products you've defined or you could go even further and use it to let users search for products to review but you can't create listings with an API alone.

APIs require a query [i.e. looking for _something_]. If you want to get _everything_ in a set category you need a datafeed which, in the case of amazon, is quite a lot of data.

You can increase the level of error notices in php. Odds are some module or permission is missing but nothing shows it because simple warnings are not set to show.

Excellent mod. I used to have GARS in a previous iteration of my VBulletin board and this works (pretty much) perfectly for my needs.

I'm currently using this as a bridge from my Calibre ebook site with each of my "products" being one of my ebooks. With that being said, I have a couple of questions/requests:

1. I know that there is the bulk importer via XML, but I was wondering if you could setup a bulk importer with CSV. I'm more of an old school notepad type guy and that would help me import my books.

2. In order for a URL to be published, I have found that the price field has to have "something" in it other than the numeral 0. Leaving it blank doesn't show the URL. Do you have a suggestion for things that have no price, short of making all of my prices "Free" or "Gratis" or "$1"

3. I have a "product" that has multiple versions (say txt, pdf, and html) how would I go about adding multiple URLs to the product?

Again, thanks for a wonderful product

We figured CSV would be mighty popular but given the need to support advanced data in the descriptions, we stuck to XML which is much more stable. If you add column headers to a CSV, save it into an XLS, you can convert it.

Not a coder and had a look but couldnt see exactly how to edit it and what to replace and with what :/ Any help would be much apprecaited.

A few bugs i have on mine are :

Admin and moderators posting reviews works fine but when any other group adds review it doesnt get listed. EDIT: It appears it is listed, but isnt showing in latest posts or "last post by" when a regular user posts a review for some reason.

In adminCP i see the review and everything looks fine.

I have option "Screen new reviews" set to NO. When i click on the review in AdminCP it shows as APPROVED.

Truly this will be a fantastic mod when fully operational. I'm running on live site and all stable apart from small bug mentioned and a few tweaks for my own personal use needed. Installed and nominated (even on beta)

OK checked forum permissions and its all set up to allow the reviews to show with no moderation. In the product review "manage reviews" it shows the review as approved. For some reason though in the main adminCP moderation queue the review is having to be manually approved even though all permissions should be allowing them to go on straight away. Once i manually approve it in AdminCP moderation queue it noww shows fully on forum last posts etc.

I'm not sure what to tell you... If it's not getting stuck in the product forums area then the issue exists somewhere between the post and the forum settings. Since no one else has reported this issue and we don't see it in testing I'm inclined to think it's a setting somewhere.

Can you check the permissions on the forum the product thread is in as well as the forum the posts go too [if they are different].

There's nothing little about adding an entire file management, uploading and image resizing routine. The easiest way to resize images is with the bulk function in a tool like Photoshop where you can process hundreds of images in 4 or 5 clicks.

An uploader has been requested several times and is on the future update list but and will be a part of the next major update.

Holy crap!, that was easy.

You may however want to adjust your sample XML file to have another sample product in it instead od the single one. It took me a little bit to figure out why Excel was only mapping a single line. If you have two sample products, the XML mapping understands how to handle multiple lines then.

Thats easy enough?

If you want to add in a browser-side resize by all means go right ahead but IMO that's not a solution as you're not actually resizing the image, you're just forcing it to show up smaller. This means the height could be a mile tall on the image and the full file still has to be downloaded so if it's really large, the site's speed is impacted.

Also, I'd like to have the mfg show up in the table that gets displayed.

All of this is in productforums.php

First you'll have to add the mfrg to the input variables accepted around line 63 replace:

$vbulletin->input->clean_array_gpc('r', array(
'catid' => TYPE_INT,
'title' => TYPE_STR,
'productid' => TYPE_UINT,
'min_price' => TYPE_INT,
'max_price' => TYPE_INT,
'min_rating' => TYPE_UINT,
'max_rating' => TYPE_UINT,
'posted' => TYPE_UINT,
'mfrg' => TYPE_STR
));

Next we have to search the database using a LIKE so we get some degree of fuzzy matching around 99 add:

if($vbulletin->GPC['mfrg']){ $conditions .= " AND pfp.mfrg LIKE '%". mysql_real_escape_string($vbulletin->GPC['mfrg']) ."%'"; } // mfrg of product

And then we have to be sure the variable persists from page to page line 164 add:

$sortaddon .= ($vbulletin->GPC['mfrg']) ? 'mfrg=' . $vbulletin->GPC['mfrg'] . '&amp;' : '';

You'll have to edit the template to add a new form field, name of mfrg

Of course it would be more ideal to generate a list of manufacturers and let people pick via dropdown. Next update can do that.

You may however want to adjust your sample XML file to have another sample product in it instead od the single one. It took me a little bit to figure out why Excel was only mapping a single line. If you have two sample products, the XML mapping understands how to handle multiple lines then.

Awesome and will do!

And you cant add this or say me how i could do that?

Of course it would be more ideal to generate a list of manufacturers and let people pick via dropdown. Next update can do that.

Well if that's comning soon, I can easily wait for that.

Thanks!!

And you cant add this or say me how i could do that?

As I said before, adding an entire image uploading, file management, resizing and display class is not simple when it has to work on a infinite number of site configurations all of whom want their own specific file saving and display options -- which is why the mod uses urls right now.

If you want to add your own forced resize open up the review template and add a width="X" height="Y" into the <img> tag where you define either a max width or height... However that will not actually resize the image, it just forces it to look smaller while still downloading the entire file and potentially altering the aspect ratio or distorting the page.

Is there a feature or tweak you'd like to see make it into this mod? We'll be doing a feature release this week / weekend and while it won't include everything, chime in and we'll try to sneak it in.

Here's what's planned:

Planned Changes [Week of 1/16]
- Profile link to a search of a user's top posts [admin option]
- Post level link to the number of votes, good votes, or ratio for a user's posts [admin option]
- WYSIWYG editor for writing a review
- Search by manufacturer [dropdown]
- Cleaned up search page & results page
- Bug fixes here and there

How about "this review was useful"? To be thumbed up/down for individual member reviews. In an ideal world, the ones thumbed up the most would show up first.

Since we did the Helpful Answers post we've got the functionality but I'll have to think about if it's best to make a separate feature for this or bridge the data from HA to impact PF listings as that would save having a very large code addition.

Hi Ted,

1. A feature I also really want to have would be a the option, to create a new user class, which can also posts reviews - but this reviews should be displayed first (at the top).

2. For these special members "reviewers" it should be possible to rate in percent. 1-5 stars are not enough. 1-10 would be great or in percent displayed with a great picture would be awesome

3. The textfield for reviews should really be larger

4. Users shouldnt be able to post reviews with less than 100 words for example.

5. you tried that? Its really important for me, because i need the addon now ;) 1. I enabled the option to create a new thread for each review. Why does this addon post the Reviews in the forum for products and not the forum for reviews (id?s are correct, my review forum is under my product-forum).

If you want to add your own forced resize open up the review template and add a width="X" height="Y" into the <img> tag where you define either a max width or height... However that will not actually resize the image, it just forces it to look smaller while still downloading the entire file and potentially altering the aspect ratio or distorting the page.

The height should be right, so i just want to define the width of 500px for example. <img max-width="500px" /> right?

That's a very specific feature need that falls outside of the range of typical functionality. You'll need to find a programmer to build you a custom extension to the mod -- it's not terribly hard but it's also not just a few lines of code.

3. The textfield for reviews should really be larger

When we move the WYSWIYG editor this will be addressed.

4. Users shouldnt be able to post reviews with less than 100 words for example.

Good idea. I'll make this an admin option

This seems to work to resize the product image:

That doesn't actually resize your imaged but rather it constraints the proportions. If you uploaded a 500x200 image it would still be 500x200 [max width of 200 w.

Furthermore if the image filesize is huge, say a 5000x5000 graphic, the entire thing is still downloaded each time causing your page load to drag.

It's not a terrible solution if your images are already all fairly small and similar sizes but becomes a problem when they're raw which is why the mod doesn't use it. Down the road we'll build a full uploader but as resizing is a quick process, the focus is on new features.

I'm sure it has to do with the contents of the post but it's also likely going to be unique to your particular install... one width another mod sets, one css attribute, etc....

The issue is likely happening everywhere but IE is adding extra padding or margins somewhere which is causing the post to become too big and thus get wrapped.

Firebug will help track down your particular collision as again, it's likely going to be specific to something another mod or style change has added... unfortunately that's the nature of mods, we all write our own code and sometimes it doesn't play nice with others.

It doesn't matter if you have a fancy editor or plain text, adding product after product will be tedious regardless. Import products at once with a single XML feed.

Creating a product for review the way you have it now is so slow. It takes forever to add information compared to being able to copy/paste. You have to put all the html in!

I'd get a feed from the manufacturer and adjust the XML format to match what the mod needs [or tell the author if something was missing]. This way when a product is changed or added I wouldn't have to worry about missing it, or go to the hassle of adding copy & pasting hundreds of products one at a time.

I have two problems which I hope you can help.

1) Productforums.php does not load when I click on the forum enabled for reviews. I have made the changes to forumdisplay.php shown in the install file. When I tried to paste the productforum URL into the forum link in the forum manager, I get the Browse Product & Reviews page but when I click on see all reviews I keep getting bumped back to the productforums page.

2) I cant delete product categories. I get "Review ID not specified" when clicking on yes during the confirmation stage.

Great mod by the way - much appreciated.

Creating a product for review the way you have it now is so slow. It takes forever to add information compared to being able to copy/paste. You have to put all the html in!

Having to write in all that html when a simple paste would get it done would make your product right on.

Actually, as someone who's just imported about 500 products into his install, allow me to give you some of my lessons learned:

Through some pretty easy scripting in Excel (predefining the URL to point to the product), joining some fields together and some unique items specific to my install; I was able to import all of the items in about an hours worth of research work and about a minute of actual processing work.

Doing this manually, it was taking me anywhere between 60-90 seconds per item, and that was with a copy/paste of HTML formatted data. So I saved myself atleast a half hour of data entry (and my sanity), and I've got it set up where I can throw in thousands of products in the future in quite literally under 5 minutes.

Now, that's just me - and I was not happy to look at an XML import versus a csv import which I was comfortable with. I'm sold on this method now.

I think what your issue stems from is that you have WYSIWYG data and you don't know how to capture that data with it's HTML sourcing data intact. If we could figure that out, would you try the XML import?

Ted S
01-23-2012, 05:57 PM
:down: too bad, you have a nice clean product here but is missing something major IMO.

That's the great thing about a user, it just needs to work for you and anything else you shouldn't use.

When you make a mod things get tricky as everyone has different needs so you start with what you feel will work for the most possible people and then watch feedback to see if you were wrong.

Anything more than a stylized list won't survive the WYSIWYG which would make editing impossible for some users. Thus there's a decision to be made and when we built this mod we decided to focus on imports over copy & paste [true speed] and open areas over bulky editors [true flexibility]. That's our line, but we know it's not going to fit everyone's needs.

Again, thanks for the feedback and best of luck with your forum!

I'm sure there are lots of ways to do it with XML feeds and alike that the owner of the site may or may not be interested in giving you access to. But a rather lo-tek way to achieve some thing similar would be to get a program to scrape the entire site like HTTrack and then scour the results looking for all instances of the data between "<!-- features tab -->" and "<!-- /features -->".

Thanks so much for sharing this.

Developing something you get to decide where you want to draw the line and while I'm sure people would like other ways to add products, I really believe that an import is the only way to go. The manual entry page is really more about formatting or reviewing an entry here and there than adding.

No matter how you do it, copy & paste thinking just doesn't scale well.

My team processes something like 10 million products [not to this mod but to a system that the mod is based on] a night from a dozen vendors all of whom format and update differently so we've become pretty familiar with every option and while we debated offering csv/tab, XML is just safer when you're dealing with rich content and an infinite number of configurations.

Sorry, didnt meant that in that way, of course my license is ok. Anyway i cant update, so could you please add this feature? I do not want to spend 120$ or more for the update.

If you have 4.0, you have "Free updates for this version" but I digress...

The mod is already build to parse data from 4.0.x as well as 4.1.x, it just doesn't display the editor. I can't justify development hours to support a very dated version of the software but you can switch to a editor-less format by hacking the template --

Edit template prodforums_review_create

1 - Remove the javascript function from the <form> tag

2 - Remove {vb:raw messagearea}

3 - Remove <script type="text/javascript" src="clientscript/vbulletin_ajax_suggest.js?v={vb:raw vboptions.simpleversion}"></script>

4 - Add the following code and format to fit your style / width needs

<div class="blockrow">
<label for="comments">Review</label>
<textarea class="primary textbox" id="comments" name="comments">{vb:raw comments}</textarea>
</div>

Hi Ted, thanks for the updates. Just noticed on the Admin page, however, when trying to approve some reviews that there's only one page of 25 products listed without the option to move onto the next 25. Is it something I've missed or is it missing?

I've attached a shot of that screen if it helps.

We just figured you'd deal with the first 25 before any more :D

Ok, ok, that's a bug. We'll updated it soon.

Ted S

Productforums.php does not load when I click on the forum enabled for reviews. I have made the changes to forumdisplay.php shown in the install file.

productforums.php isn't used in that process. The hack changes forumdisplay.php so that when you view the forum through an existing link, the format is adjusted to show review data via the template prodforums_threadbit.

I cant delete product categories. I get "Review ID not specified" when clicking on yes during the confirmation stage.

We'll add this to the next bug release.

My apologies for the back to back releases but a few minor bugs have been discovered that seemed worth fixing. There are no security, data or critical bugs.

- fixes bug with admin not showing multiple page of reviews to edit / approve
- fixes bug with admin not allowing categories to be deleted
- fixes bug in prodforums_product_css with alignment of posts for some skins
- removes $ before manufacturer item descriptor

If you are upgrading from 1.2.1 simply install the new plugin file and upload admincp/productforums.php.

If you are upgrading from before 1.2.x update all files.

This upgrade will alter template prodforums_product_css if you have customized you can merge the template or simply add a </div> before the </li> tag.

Missing 2 key things:

- You can not upload image;
- You can not set a standard height for images;

How important is it that these two failures?

Ouch. Thanks for the feedback but calling parts of a free mod a failure is probably not the best way to win the [positive] attention of the author.

Image urls were used because we don't see most people creating products individually, it's simply not scalable to hand enter even just a hundred products. When you enter a url, you define the image and thus you define the height... browser forced resizing is not a solution. Still there's been enough demand for uploading so while I think it will take people down the wrong path, we added to the feature roadmap a few weeks back.

Hey, nicely explained. DEFIANTLY! The manufacturers do not provide RSS feeds for the information I need. I have to copy/paste it all. If I could enter in urls and the scripts would import everything I needed, including the images, that would be ideal. Is this possible? Please help if you can. I would appreciate this very much.

If I could see an example of what I need to write? I'm a copy past kind of guy.

Forums continue to look how they always looked although if you follow the install guide it explains how to modify the column rows to reflect ratings in addition to the normal data.

No, your forum remain a working forum but you enable the option for the mod in the forum settings as explained in the install file and main thread for the mod. Products and reviews will get posted as specially formatted threads / posts. If you want people to be able to search products, you add a link to the overview page [productforums.php] wherever you want.

That gives me the display but no products are cilckable.

What doesn't give you clickable links?

It's the boldest, biggest part of the mod thread and in red in the install file along with the two other mandatory steps. You really can't miss it -- unless you skip reading.

Ted S, I think if you add images to the tutorial, that would be of great help. :)

There's nothing more highlighted in the mod listing than this point. There's 5 quick points in the install guide, this one is in red and bolded. If people chose to skip reading the install guide no number of images will help --but thanks for directing people over to it again :D

For everyone... remember, a mod is a starting point, if you're playing set it & forget it, not checking the options, skipping your own customization, you are not setting yourself up for success. Don't settle for out of the box.

A mod is a starting point to add a new type of experience or function for your site... rather than waiting for a highly specific feature to happen, which is unlikely to meet your exact needs, you should work to customize things to meet your needs.

The images are not in the path the page thinks they are in. Check the source, check where they were uploaded too and we can go from there.

The rating images are all stars-black-* whereas the folder has only stars-pink-* and stars-green-* png images.

Guess the download package needs to be updated with the black png images.
