this works for the current 4.0.5 version of vBulletin,

however i would like the subforum icons to be shown in forumdisplay/subforum, all subforums are showing the default subforum image as shown in the screenshot

this is where i want the images showing is it possible ?

Not with this mod yet but I will look into it for a future version.

Hi, I am running 4.0.5, and am having a small issue.
I installed it fine, created the folder, added icons, set the options, turned it on.
I then go to Forums & Moderators -> Forum Manager -> next to a forum click "GO" next to edit forum -> and on the forum edit page, there is no option to select what icon I want... any help?

It says it installed flawlessly.... but I can't get any icons to show. I have added a folder, put in icons and then selected them for the various forums..... nothing shows on 4.0.6

Hi Dark Wizard...... you are right, the error in the admincp causing those error commands was due to not adding the lock.png to the folder.

I still wonder how I can get an image for a forum area on the homepage though as per:

Having same issue as above, everything seems to work great except no picture shows. Forum is setup as a forum as a category with sub forums within that, but I don't think that's the issue as the screenshots here show the same setup. I'm running 4.0.6

Create a folder under images and call it what you want. (Make sure this is under the images folder otherwise you will get errors!)

yes, works fine on 4.06 but remember, it wont work on forum categories, only on active forums.

@Dark Wizrd ~ This option doesnt work : This allows you to change the transparency of the category icon when indicating "Old Posts".

When I post new threads or posts the transparency stays the same. And I have pressed Yes to the option above it!

This seems to work from the standpoint of replacing the status icons as described. However, I seem to be having a little spacing issue between child forums. Reference image below. I'm running 4.0.6, fyi.

Also, from the screenshot, you can see the forum description "blah" in there. It displays beneath the forum title as it should, but then it also randomly appears over at the very left edge??? I checked and I don't have any breaks or anything mysteriously in there. I'm guessing this has something to do with the template edit?

I did the template changes to the status icon mod manually since i already had this change in the forumhome_forumbit_level1_post template, per the instructions. (hope i followed them correctly)

I'm wondering if i went back, reverted the template, let this mod automatically change the template and THEN go and insert the other template mod, if that might fix the spacing.

UPDATE:

OK, I ended up just reverting both forumhome_forumbit_level1_post and forumhome_forumbit_level2_post back to their default version. So this overwrote the manual template modification I did originally. Then, I went back and allowed the settings to automatically update the templates and it seemed to fix everything right up. Which is good.

The odd thing is, the forum home tabs mod, had an edit in the forumhome_forumbit_level1_post template, but after the revert, that mod continues to work anyways. :dunno:

Did you choose "Replace Status Icon" from the drop down box in the Forum Category Icons Settings?

The icons are working well for me in Firefox, Chrome and Opera. However, they shift to the left and look choppy in IE. An example of IE8 is included http://www.digitalcfo.com/forums/images/icons/custom_icons.jpg.

Anyone else have this problem and is there a quick css fix?

Looks to me like a skin issue. It works fine in IE7 and IE8 on the default skin for me.

@Boofo - I basically copied the default skin to create a new skin and have been changing background colors in the stylevar settings. In addition, the original vBulletin standard icons still show fine using IE in the subforums where I haven't yet added an icon so I'm perplexed as to why changing the icon would cause a viewing issue particularly when all other browsers work perfectly (IE always seems to have some css standards issue!). I'll keep searching online but if anyone has any ideas let me know. I would hate to think I'm the only one having IE issues given I've only modified background colors in the stylevars.

Try playing with the "Category Icon Positioning" setting and see if that helps. Also, I don't have the sidebar enabled on my site so that may have something to do with it in IE.

Once I adjust the positioning settings to move the icons to the right, IE looks ok but the browsers that work properly are now unaligned. Plus, I'm not sure why the icons look "gritty" in IE but look fine in all other browers. From my experience seems like their is some CSS setting that needs to be added for IE, but just not sure why or what I've done in configuration that is giving me this issue (but no one else).

OK, I've disabled another plugin called Everywhere Sidebar which appears to eliminate the positioning problem but the icon quality still looks poor in IE compared with the other browsers. How does the icon quality look for you in IE vs other browsers? Should I investigate further or acknowledge that icon quality in IE is not as good?

I use PNGs instead of GIFs as I found that GIFs don't look as good in IE.

I had PNGs but resaved as JPGs and now IE AND the other browsers show the icons at the same quality. Thank you Microsoft for those extra hours of unproductive time!

After the vBulletin 4.1 PL1 update, the icons do not appear anymore, they are now back to the basic vBulletin icons. The mod still shows as being installed and the template edits and still there. Why did this happen?

In the template edits forumhome_forumbit_level1_post and forumhome_forumbit_level2_post, change all instances of:

$vbulletin->options

to:
$vboptions

Hello, to everybody!

Just installed the modification in my vBulletin 4.0.8 forum and works great!

Many thanks to the uploader...

Some requests....if possible:

1. Please add the option to the inserted image (jpg, gif png) to be visible even if the forums acts like category (when ''Act as Forum'' option is set to No.

2. When using a subforum manager to organise large numbers of subforums is it possible this mod to enter the image as icon in the subforum (the small buble I mean when a forum is view as a subforum) because so far it is viewable only as main forum image.

3. It is possible to add a link png symbol to accompany the main image when the forum acts as a link just like with the lock image when the forum is locked -closed to new posts.

I want to increase the icons, but the forum name doesn't go to the left, so the forum name is in front of the bigger icon? How can I solve this?

I am having a similar issue on one of my skins. All others looks great. I am guessing it is something in CSS for this skin used smaller icons. If you look at my screenshot attached you will see what I mean.

Being that it is a custom skin, I would think that is where the problem lies. Make sure that the code you are replacing it EXACTLY what he has to be replaced. If not, incorporate the differences from the skin into his replacement code and see if that fixes it for you.

UPDATE , 4.1 PATCH 2 no template edits needed , install the .xml create the image folder .. go to forum manager and start picking your icons . also make sure that when youre in your setting for this mod that your "Category Icons Folder" at the bottom has the same name as the image folder that you placed in your root . or when you chose the drop down menu in your forums manager youll see no pics .. thats all no TP edits nice work ..... thank you , HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL BLESSINGS TO THE FAMILIES ...

Is it possible to modify this mod to allow you to double-click this icon to mark the specific forum and its contents as read?

It works when you do, however unlike the normal way, this will act as a link and bring you to the subforums. I'd really love this mod but the lack of this default vBulletin ability is making for some cranky users. ;)

Got a quick note and I am not sure if this possible. For some of my members, the opacity difference is just not enough to take notice that a new post has been made in the forum. Would it be possible to get an OPTIONAL overlay option in the vBulletin for when a forum has new posts. I am thinking of putting the word "NEW" as the image for the overlay.

Not sure how hard this would, but it would IMMENSELY appreciated if this could be done if it is at all possible.

Is there a way to not resize the icons? I have tried setting the size to 0px width & 0px height but the icons don't display when I do that. I have made custom images to the size of my liking using the old version or other version of this hack, when a default size was not available, but now I don't see an option to not resize.

The height of my icons is always 50px but for a few of the icons I use I would like the width to be defined by the width of the image, which in some cases is about 75px.

Any help would be great, I would be willing to edit whatever files necessary.

more than likely what happened to me happened to you , when you updated it overwrote youre template edits , so you have to do them over again . also make sure when doing the edits you dont double anything up , or youll have dbl descriptions like in my post above then youll have to go in there n find it to eliminate it . hope that helps I've updated my forum to 4.1.1.

Hello this looks like a great mod but i have tried to install it on 4.1.2 and there is no errors but the olny problem i have is in the forum manager and at the bottom i should be able to select the icons i uploaded. i was very careful and i did add the folder in the images and double check everything but still am not able to select any icons. thanks if anybody could give me a hint i saw a posting it worked on 4.1.1

I have installed forum category icon hack and I love it but I have a problem with other hack that disables this. The other hack that disables forum category icon is subforum list control. With the Subforum list control disabled:

Permissions aren't set. Just go into usergroups once and it will set the permissions, nothing more to do.

Your path to the icons in the settings is wrong. Check it again per the instructions.

Two issues. First issue is when I set the Forum to act as a Category, it defaults back to the standard category icon that comes with vB.

Second issue is that my image is being cut off and overwriting the text. My image is not a square and 175x75.

EDIT: This was a problem due to the 4.1.7 upgrade most likely. Go into the forumhome_forumbit_level1_post and forumhome_forumbit_level2_post and manually redo your edits. Love your product.

As it says in the mod, you might have to manually edit the templates if they don't automatically get edited when the mod is installed. You can try reverting the templates for the mod and see if that fixes it.

i know this may sound like a stupid question but did you manually enter the size you wanted your icon to be underneith where you select the icon from the dropdow, it says something like

if you dont manually enter a height and width the picture will be displayed with 0x0px which will not show up..

That's not a bug you really shouldn't leave spaces between image names best to use an underscore _ or make it all one word...

Your icons are set to what size within the mod in the options?
They are too big by the looks of it, if you have changed the size there you need to match it up in the Style Variable Editor
In there you search for: forumicon_size
And change the size to what ever size you want, try 75

Are the standard size 48x48. I can put the size that i want, less or higher, and still up in the text.If i go to the style variable editor to forumuicon_size,and change there, is the same. Still up in the text.

All do is change it within the mod options in the vb options and then change it to the same size in the style variable

Are the same Fready, in vboptions are 48x48, in stylevar 48x48 too, and the real size of the icon is 48 x48 too. In other styles i can see propertly, but not in this. It must be another thing. Perhaps a style error?

On the 4.1.10, if you're a visitor, it doesn't resize the icons and show they with them original size..

How to fix this?

It's working fine in 4.1.10 for me, but I size all my icons to 48x48 or close.
