Modification Description
This modification allows you to manage tournaments and ladders on your forum. It provides interactibility both for forum members and forum admin.
Tournament Types:

Single Elimination Tournaments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-elimination_tournament)
Last Man Standing Tournaments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_man_standing_%28gaming%29)
Double Elimination Tournaments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-elimination_tournament)
Round Robin Tournaments (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round-robin_tournament) also called all-play-all tournament
Double Round Robin

Ladder Description:
Users or teams can join ladders and challenge other players or teams in the ladder. Elo rating system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system) is used which calculates the difficultly of a match according to the players' ranks and this is taken into account when the ranks are updated after the match is finished.

Is there supposed to be a menu for this plugin in the AdminCP? I found the group settings and the Tournament and ladder options under the main setting options, but that's it. Also I confirm the bug, the link is not properly parsed.

How do I add tournaments or announcements?

Click Competitions in the navbar then click new and under the dropdown menu you can create new tournaments, ladders, announcements, etc.

Have you re-uploaded clientscript/javascript_competitions.js for latest version?

Also you may need to clear your browser cache as it may be caching the javascript and so not loading the new one

The auto insert into quicklinks doesn't appear to work. Nice work as always though, thanks!

A few more things. These might be part of the styling issues you mentioned, but the "Display Order" and "Controls" columns when viewing categories appear to be swapped with each other.

Also, you can change the display order on that screen, but there's no way to save the new order. (editing the categories works fine though, so not too big a deal).

When creating a new tournament, it says the time should be entered in GMT+0. Any way you can make that so it defaults to the member creating it's timezone? Basically GMT+0 it in the background? Less confusion that way.

When editing the rules, you can't save them. You only have an "Edit" and "Cancel" button when editing the rules. Clicking "Edit" returns you to the main competitions page without saving.

Yea it works now, i had changed the modification name in the admin cp so im guessing you would have to change the document to it too. But theres no Tournament drop down when i click new ladder, theres like nothing where i can create tournaments.

On the far right of the Competitions navbar, there should be a 'New' dropdown

Check your Usergroup Permissions, there will be two seperate permission blocks, one for tournament permissions and one for ladder permissions

It is a modification for displaying the results and managing tournaments/ ladders. So you can use it for any games you want.

A few minor things that I'm not sure count as bugs or requests, none the less;

If when creating a ladder/tournament you don't enter a title and/or description then you get an error message (as expected), however there is no "back" button for the user to navigate away. This also happens in a ladder if you try to set a challenger to challenge themselves.
Editing an announcement/rules automatically adds "edited by", even if the user has "Show edited by note on edited messages?" set to no in their user group options.
The rules page doesn't take up the full width available and has a weird line beneath it.
You can admin-add users to tournaments but you can't to ladders.
"Team Gamertag" doesn't appear to do anything (superseded by "Team Tags"?)
The tournament filters don't search within a category, subsequently if there are relevant tournaments within a category then you can't access them as the link for the category is simply tournaments.php?c=X (ie. without the relevant filter).

I am with Jamie G. I'm installing this regardless, but a Double Elimination mode will bring this Mod to a whole different level, and a lot more useful for gaming communities out there that want to run online tournaments the way it is done at a competitive level. I'm willing to assist in any beta testing for this to happen.

As for Pay to Play, I like the concept, not the name lol. But adding the option to make the tournament a Paid or Free tournament is a great addon, as part of the incentive for tournaments is usually prize money, which can easily be obtained via Paypal or similar method.

Just my 2 cents! ;)

I've found another few;

when you try to add another team (competitions.php?do=addteam) and you've already reached the maximum you're allowed
when challenging someone who can't recievie PMs (ladders.php?do=insertchal).
if you attempt to challenge the same team/user twice in a row (ie when a challenge is still pending)

Apologies, I was expecting it to be an additional tab like "Friends" "Blogs" etc. but I had a look again and just noticed it near the bottom on the "About Me" tab :).


I also found a few more issues;


When a user requests to join a team they should get a pop up/notification to say that it first needs to be approved by a leader because currently it *appears* to the end user that it hasn't work.
On a ladder list, the option to remove another user gets truncated rather than wrapped;

When submitting scores, there's a box for uploading screenshots but no way to upload any (I tried entering a url of an image but didn't see it appear anyway on the results screen). this box does not appear if you are doing a team ladder.
If you create a team ladder, clicking on the team name on the ranking tab takes you to (/competitions.php?do=viewteam) rather than bring up the pop up containing the option to challenge.
A user is able to report a challenge, before any scores are submitted, but this doesn't get put through to the "reported matches" section. I can't think of a reason why someone would report a challenge before any scores have been submitted (as they could just reject the challenge) so maybe it'd be simpler to just remove the report link until after a user has entered scores?
If you admin insert a ladder challenge then on ladders.php?do=challenges it pulls two seemingly random team members to display under "match" rather than team names.
When viewing "Your challenges" on a ladder, the column titles are centred but the contents are aligned left which, without column borders, makes it a bit confusing to look at.
The 'user can't receive PMs' error message seems to also be based off whether they are able to track PMs (Can Use Message Tracking) rather than just the "Maximum Stored Messages" usergroup setting.


Requests:

Send the team owner/leader(s) a notification when someone has requested to join their team.
If a user doesn't have permission to view tournaments or ladders then the "Competitions" tab in the navbar should be hidden from them.
As a team owner, if you promote another member to co or full leader then still be able to demote them (to co-leader or regular member).
Disallow HTML to be entered into category names as on competitions.php?do=categories, you can enter (and display) an image as a title.
Add a "My Ladders" filter, which would display all ladders a user had entered (either as an individual or as part of a team).
A notification when a user has accepted/rejected your challenge.

EDIT: It's just that there is WAYY too much options in this mod from the viewer side (not admincp) and it gets really confusing on what you gotta do. Maybe a written manual would be nice? some screenshots etc? Like describing what you should do for what type of competition.

EDIT AGAIN: Could you also put a feature in, so that if a team doesn't get any new members within x days, the team is deleted and the team leader is sent a PM with a warning x days BEFORE the scheduled deletion that his team could be deleted?
This is because I want to give permission to anyone on my site to create a team.

How does the javascript in this script degrade? I know the 3.8 version did not degrade gracefully at all. But the more I use AJAX with my own mods, the more I see how essential javascript degrading gracefully is. Especially with the number of complaints I've received using the old version on my forums.

That is not a bug.. there are 2 people tied for 1st place.
Which means there is no 2nd place, then the next 2 people are tied for 3rd place. (which means there is no 4th place, so the next person would be in 5th, etc.)

Just keep using it, the system will seperate them as they get more wins or losses.


Remember to put in the final score of the game, ONLY if the higher number is the winner, otherwise just use a 1 for winner & leave the loser at 0. (note for future.. reverse scoring for games like Golf :))

Also it would be nice if there is a "My Team" button, where you can see all the teams your on.

Click Competitions in the navbar then click new and under the dropdown menu you can create new tournaments, ladders, announcements, etc.
Are you sure? I was trying to add a new tournament, by clicking on "Create New Tournament" I only got a blank page and no tournament was created.

I think you have only downloaded v4.1.1 when the issue was fixed in v4.1.2, so you will have to upgrade product.

Is it possible in a future version to add the option to select a different method for calculating ladder rankings? Most of the ladders I run either use a slide and swap method (if the challenging team, which must be lower ranked, wins then they take the place of the defending team who them slide down one place on the ladder) or a straight win/loss calculation which works well for leagues.

fyi.....I received a database error for invalid sql when adding a user to a ladder when that user's name contains an apostrophe.

the same issue occured on v4.1.3, and by updating it to v4.1.5 I thought maybe this would resolve the issue...

It should have been adding bye players to a 12 person Single Elimination Tournament to make it a 16 player tournament; but it wasn't so that messed up the brackets.

The url to the icon was probably over 150 charcters? I've removed this limit in attached product file

As for the update, you should also upload/overwrite the old php files.

Yes, until you enter any scores, all players will be 1st equal.

We just finished our first LMS Tournament and I had problems entering the scores because the "Edit" seems to be missing (where scores are entered).

I have created a 4v4 team based ladder and have a couple of teams created. I just tried to challenge one of the teams, but receive the following error:

I am running vb4.05 - I can not confirm if this was a problem before upgrading from 4.04 though as its the first time we have tried to make a challenge.

I went to my old 3.6.8 installation and clicked on the relevant links to find the web address to add scores for single players. That old installation has been completely removed from my server so I can't find out what the address is for adding scores to teams I'm sorry.

Yes, you just have to keep trying. That's what I had to do. Fortunately I had just done a clean install of this addon and so the numbers started from 1.

Everybody gets carried to the side, winners to winners side and losers to losers side. Now, the players that lose during winners round 1 from the top of the bracket go down, and viceversa. For winners round 2 the players get passed to the opposite side as they are, and for round 3 it is same as round 1.

Well that's how it works for 4 players it moves the losers to the bottom bracket then the losers of round 2 end up meeting them.

It just doesn't do that when you select 8 players. If they didn't go to the bottom bracket they would be out first round.

Not yet, I was waiting on official support for double elimination brackets. I will however install it tonight and see what it looks like.

There is another really good mod for tournaments, made by Jaxel, but he hasn't made it available for VBulletin 4. His mod includes support to TIO files, and automatically embeds the files to create a bracket in Vbulletin. Pretty neat!

I attached the image. This only happens with 8 players.

As you see after i advance some rounds the bottom bracket didn't get filled with the 4 losers from the top bracket like it's suppose to.

Using Tournaments & Ladders version 4.1.7 on vB 4.0.5:

We just finished our first LMS Tournament and I had problems entering the scores because the "Edit" seems to be missing (where scores are entered).

I had to use .php?do=editplayer&id=XXX in my browser address bar and scrolled through the numbers (XXX) to find the players who needed points attributed to them before I closed the LMS off.

Fixed for next version.

For now, double clicking a score allows you to quickly edit it.

I just started our LMS tournament, but there was no way for players to be able to challenge each other.

Is LMS not a "ladder" as I had assumed?

I can't create an actual "ladder", only "tournaments".

'lms' is short for 'last man standing'; it's a type of tournament, often used in on-line multiplayer shooting games

The ladder permissions are in a separate block in usergroup permissions, check them.

Another issue i notice with lms is when you edit a tournament and change the score type to (Singular Form eg. Point not Points) Kill etc . I don't see it show up anywhere.

Another bug with the double elimnation tournament.

It looks like the 4 losers from the top bracket don't drop down to the bottom bracket. Everything else seems to work after that.

edit... looks like it works fine with 4 players. It only does it with 8 players.

I also just installed this onto my new test forums which has just two users. I created two teams, one under each user account and joined both teams to the ladder. I then challenged one team and again had no notifications to the challenged team leaders pm :confused:

I will be working towards it in the next few (prob quite a few) releases. First is to combine the view of tournaments and ladders within categories, then I will add the option to create a tournament which is linked to ladder (winner gets +X elo rating) and only players from ladder can join tournament.

if i can make a request for the future league side of things, could you have it so that each league can have multiple divisions, and divisions can have customisable names :D, eg for 2 divisions you could have Div1, Div2, as standard but could customise it to Premiership, Div1.

also dunno if this is planned or suggested, but could you make it so the ladder has a start date and end date, so if you wanted, you could make it run like Ladder 2010, Ladder 2011 or just Ladder Sept 2010, etc, and so it's not just one long ladder. Then you can have 1st 2nd and 3rd type awards for it. If you had that, might need a 3rd date option for Results Deadline, so people can submit results they forgot up until the last second.
