Is there any way to get this to sit flush and to work in the post bit here:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2011/09/104.png

That is currently where it is residing, I didn't know if there was a way to get it to work there ( preferably to the left of "PM") as I have signatures turned off for certain forums. Thanks!

Just have to tweak the css applied to that div [it's floated right but nothing else is set]

Just a little FYI.... 1,000 posts on this thread as of today and 3 million plus logged votes [who knows how many more unlogged ones].

Glad to see the mod working for so many of you!

I've got a major new mod on the way but after that, updates coming!

*TheLastSuperman waits in anticipation!

Might be the wrong place to ask this, but could someone help me with the appropriate css for achieving this (Don't know css myself) and where I would need to put it exactly? I can navigate around the admincp fairly well, just don't know much about design.

Really nice mod.

This thread does not alter thread order or make any long term changes to your database.

There's likely a collision with another mod and you will need to test what you've got installed to find what's hitting what.

I have disable all the plugin and just enable the helpful answer plugin. The result is same, all the threads are in Ascending Order.

And when you disable this plugin, what happens to your threads? Have you changed the thread order setting from the default?

Disable the option helpfulanswerorderbits in any given forum. If that doesn't work turn off the hook forumdisplay_query_threadid and tell me if that fixes it

Your install did not update the database properly. Run this query:

If you use prefixes on your database, be sure to add them in (i.e. vb_forum).

This mod rates posts. If you want something to rate threads it would be an entirely separate codebase or, you could port this addon as you see fit.

How is it not working? Is there a post with votes? Does it have enough votes to meet the secondary threshold? Have you configured your templates in a way that may have removed the needed hook? Without being specific I can't help.

another Q, what this option do exactly? "Enable Single Post Voting"??

From the admin options page:

If enabled, users will only be able to vote on one post in a single thread. Adds one query to each SHOWTHREAD page.

SilverBoy

Yes I have posts with votes, I changed the threshold to (2) votes, and I installed it in test board with default style (no changes made).

Ok ted, what I can do now?

what I suppose to get after enabling "Enable Most Helpful Post Block" option?

Could you please give me screen shot?

Well since you don't know what you're looking for perhaps it's there? The result is nothing fancy... just a single line of text in a colored box near the top of the thread page [nothing shows in the individual thread].

Are there enough votes on the post you are testing to make it show up?

SilverBoy
01-16-2012, 04:26 AM
I have enough votes (I put 2 in this option "Minimum Rank to Show Post Block") and actually I have 5 votes in one post but no blocks in the page.

actually I get this message at top of the page "See the top rated post in this thread. Click here" if I enabled this option "Get Top Post per Thread".

another note, when enabled this option "Enable User Points" I didn't get any points in post but I get them in profile page.

SilverBoy
01-16-2012, 04:36 AM

It's enabled but not automatically displayed. You have to add the appropriate variable [check post #3 of this thread] to show whatever data you want.

Ted S
01-16-2012, 05:25 AM
do you mean it will sort the threads in forumdisplay page according to the votes?

You keep stating that things don't work and then asking what they do which makes it very hard to understand if the feature has a bug or if you simply don't understand it.

The option alters the ranking of posts based on votes.

Ted S
01-16-2012, 05:27 AM

Hey Ted S, great mod and was exactly what I was after. Thanks for this. I've installed it today and have read pages of this thread to get the answer i'm after but couldn't find it, or i've missed it along the way, but i'm trying to display the "rated helpful x out of x times" count under the users avatar or under their posts count mini profile within threads ? Was thinking to have some text like "Helpfull Posts: X"

SilverBoy
01-16-2012, 06:02 AM
I asked you about this option meaning before "Enable Single Post Voting" and you told me about the description that must be under it, but for me I don't get that description.

so after I checked the plugin file I find that you add "k" letter in add that phrase line that is why it is not work.

I'm talking about this line
"<phrase name="setting_helpans_onevotek_desc" date="0" username="Ted S" version="2.0.5">If enabled, will only be able to vote on one post in a single thread. Adds one query to each SHOWTHREAD page.</phrase>"

the phrase name must be "setting_helpans_onevote_desc"

But helpful posts only displays 1 on the actual post that was helpful. It doesn't carry around with it the total amount of helpful posts the user has made. Is there another variable for this ?

Is there a variable I can use to display the total weight of a post after it got ranked up and down?

Example: 2 plus votes = Weight 2, 4 plus votes and 1 minus vote = weight 3, 6 minus votes weight = -6

To me it makes more sense to display the total weight of posts then how many plus and how many minus voted. Just give me the total as one number.

Thank you in advance and I love this product.

Thanks for the quick reply. Isn't the "Hide negative post count" looking at a certain rating value or does it truly count how many negative votes a post gets irregardless of the positives.

If it calculates the "average" or offset then that variable would be useful for my forum. If it truly just counts how many negatives then no offense but it kind of sucks.

I just installed this in a non production forum and haven't tested it enough to know how it works. What I am really looking for is a reddit type experience. Up/down votes. too many down votes post goes away, but can be up voted again by other users. true democracy.

There used to be product that did exactly that but it is discontinued/graveyard and was for vb3.x

Your product is the closest to what I am looking for.

Ted S
01-24-2012, 06:07 AM
Looking at the source code [it's been a while] there's nothing fancy computed here, just the number of goodvotes, the number of totalvotes and then you can merge those to build a few different results.

My philosophy on mods is pretty simple -- give people a core feature that works for as many sites as possible and then let each one tweak it to meet their actual needs. One person will say a feature rocks, the next that it sucks, truth is that it "sucks" or "rocks" for you, but the mod isn't made for just just one site. Unfortunately "off the shelf" is as far as most go but let's be honest, if you're the same as the guy next door, that's not good so please, if you think this is close but not quite cutting it, dig into the code and make it do what you want.

By that I mean you've got a tool to vote on posts, now all you have to do is decide how you want to show the votes, hide negative posts, feature others, etc.

klaus
01-24-2012, 07:01 AM
Yeah that is awesome and I am stocked for this product. Thank you.

I will mess with it and share what I make out of it with this thread so perhaps someone else can use it.

I like your philosophy.

I'm very open to other mods interacting with and extending this functionality but don't support their code.

vB experience is released by a great developer... I'd suggest you reach out to him / his team for help with the integration.

I don't believe BB code works in phrases. You'll need to use HTML and ideally css attributes.

I know, but I figured there are those like myself who are non-coders and they like reading through the latest posts on the threads before updating their vbulletin just to make sure everything is still working right (just because SOMETIMES, things go wrong- not saying often, not saying with your specific mod)...

I know I like it when other users share feedback -both negative and positive- on how the various vbulletin upgrades effect their installed mods... figured I'd return the favor a bit.

Don't get me wrong, we appreciate it when people confirm a mod works in an upgrade. I just like to take the time and follow up to other users so they understand that rather than asking if a mod works for .0x minor change, they give it a shot -- 99% of the time it will and asking just slows down their own site [not to mention that most coders will answer without actually testing first on the assumption basis].

I can't do much with "it's not working"... You'll need to provide some actual details to look into...

Have you enabled the mod in the forum you are viewing?

Do the other options work?

Does anything show up in the voting area?

Sorry. I re-edit the post.

Since multiple sites have the issue we'll definitely take a look and see what changed in 4.1.11

In the mean time you may want to try the manual template placement to see if the hook location was shifted around. It requires a template edit but may be a work around.... assuming that was the issue of course.

For anyone else reading this: there appears to be a compatibility bug with 4.1.11 which will be looked into. As the reason for this bug isn't known there's no ETA but this does not have any documented impact to the forum [other than causing the mod not to show].

Could you please explain how to edit the template (the postbit_legacy right?). Can you post an instruction how to manual do template editing. This might be the cause. I will test it.

We've tested the mod on both our custom style and a stock vBulletin 4.1.11 style with the exact same settings you had [thanks for posting the screen shots] and it loads fine.

Does your postbit / legacy template have any customizations that may be altering how it shows?

The attached version of the mod will print debug code [not pretty so you'll want to disable it after getting a screenshot].

It still doesn't show up for whatever reason.

I'm using a customize style from Digitalvb.

This is a really great mod, and I think it's going to do a lot to increase participation on my board.

I have one question: Is there a way to change the font size and color in the phrases ("Did you find this post helpful, etc")?

I apologize if this question is painfully stupid, but my husband usually does the coding, and I'm trying to do everything by myself this time. It's a long and sometimes grotesque process.

The path of the link... When you click it or hover over it where does it point too? Where should it point too?

There are two helpfulanswer.php files. One in your root folder, one in your admincp. If you upload the upload folder contents into your forum directory in one shot everything will go to the right place.

You can simply copy that routine and add one addition WHERE statement to the mySQL query along the lines of

createddate >= DATE_SUB(NOW(),INTERVAL 1 day)

Tried several different things and can't get it to work...where excactly? Also it can't find any 'createddate' but at least got rid of the error when I changed it to post dateline..but nothing shows.

$helpfulanswers = $db->query_read_slave("
SELECT post.postid,post.title as posttile,helpfulpost.goodrank,helpfulpost.totalran k,helpfulpost.lastvote,
thread.threadid,thread.title as title,thread.postusername as postusername,forum.title as ftitle $helpful_selectby

Ted S

Shoot... createddate is the attribute I usually use in mods but in this one it would be

helpfulanswer.lastvote

However I've over simplified as this is a UNIXTIMESTAMP made by vBulletin rather than a datestamp. That means you have to get more complex in the query...

helpfulanswer.lastvote >= UNIX_TIMESTAMP(DATE_SUB(NOW(),INTERVAL 1 day))

Or something like that

Bit of a strange one this.

I am entering {vb:raw post.totalrank} in my postbit_legacy template.

And it is showing the number of thanks under the user avatar. But only on that particular post. Is there anyway to show the total number of thanks on all posts for a user. The old variable on the 3.x version was $post[hatotalrank] which showed the total number of thanks on multiple posts for users.

Am I doing something wrong ?

post.totalrank is a post variable so it's not strange that it only shows what that post got :D

If you scroll back to the first page of the mod there's a list of accessible variables with brief descriptions. I don't recall them all off hand but if I had any common sense when making this version it would have been post.hatotalrank

Hi
I have this installed and all is fine, except that I have just installed Pird of Preys Simple Postbit modification and this mod no longer works in the sections where I have activated Simple Postbits.
Simple Postbits has a box that says Use Postbit Control Hooks, the description is below;

"Choose whether you want to enable the postbit controls template hook. If yes mods that use this hook will be able to place their code in the simple postbit. Enable this if you want a "Like" button or other 3rd party buttons to show."

Does anyone know how I can get Helpful Answers to work again in those sections?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I can't debug specific cross-mod issues as there's simply too many combinations but I'd suggest trying the manual placement option and adding the template hook yourself. This takes a couple lines of editing but may solve your issue.

With templates you can move elements wherever you want, however you want. Mods are merely a starting point to serve the general community.

You'll need to alter the script's query to join the post table, get the body message, potentially parse it through the editor if you allow styling and that's about it.

SELECT <existing stuff>,post.message

In the xml file there's an existing set of functions that check for a user's rights to vote in the hook postbit_display_complete. A very similar routine exists in the rate function of helpfulanswers.php. You'll want to change both so only approved users see the option to vote on the frontend and so that no one can trick a vote in on the backend.

Beyond that I can't teach you how to code but there are many great resources out there that will... Start hacking and searching, that's the best way to learn.

Hi,

When someone vote on a post, the thread appears as many time as there are posts that have been voted (+ or -). Who to avoid this duplicates ?

Thanks.

First of all thanks for the Mod.

I have the same problem as Eole in that while it works fine, it replicates the thread like three times. If I switch disable Helpful Answers the replicated threads are deleted.

I read the suggestions but really dont get it. :(

He stopped responding [can't say I blame him] so we never sorted out the issue for his forum... Back to square one.

Take a look at the table helpfulpost and a post that shows up multiple times. There should be just one entry per postid.

I.E. SELECT COUNT(*) FROM helpfulpost WHERE postid = '12345';

Hey Ted,

First of all thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, I'm a layman in I.T and have no idea what you mean in terms of table?

I might just try to find an easier Mod, which is ashame as I 'liked' this one

But thanks again for responding

And when you disable just this mod that goes away, correct?

Hi Ted S,

Yes, when disabling the mod, everything looks right.

I found the options that generate duplicate entries in the forum page :
On your forum, when activating "Order By Helpful Answers Votes?" (set to yes), every thread that have multiple post with a note, the thraed appears multiple times in the thread page of the forum.

I have disable this option at this time (not useful for my forum).

I have an other question : did you think about sorting posts in a thread depending on the number of positive/negative vote. this could give users show rapidly the bests answers (when multiple) just below the question. I'm just working on it, but maybe not with the best way than you.

Bye.

Hello all .
There is a nasty bug with this hack .
If someone tries to copy the link of a yes/no button which is used for rating while he is logged in , and then logs out and enters it in a browser, the rate gets accepted!!
(suppose the link to the yest button is like this : http://forum.ustmb.ir/helpfulanswers...id=5662&rank=1 , if you copy this to your address bar and press enter, the rate will be accepted! while you are not logged in at all!)
This causes mischievous users to abuse the system for giving positive or negative rates as they wish!
would someone please think about it ?

Interesting.... There's 5 of 6 different options that would stop this from happening like if you had a post minimum, votes per day, etc. but in the absence of those it looks like you are correct. And it's gone unnoticed for years too :D

Simple fix with the attached xml and voting script.

I'll test around more this evening and clean it up for a release.

Ted S
08-12-2012, 12:03 AM
HA version 2.4.2 has been released this evening to fix two small but important bugs.

The first resolves issues where selected voting types should show strange characters in the ajax posted votes . This changes phrases only.

The second and more devious issue was spotted by faisaly.com in which users could copy a vote link, logout and use it multiple times to game the system. Forums with minimum post counts and voting limits were not impacted but given the potential impact [I]it's suggested all forums update.

Changes are made to the XML file and /upload/helpfulanswers.php only.

No templates were modified.

Great thanx this will let users feel at comfort now... and feel fair...

Is there a way that can hide posts with overall negative ratings? currently there is only an option which hides any post that gets just a negative rate ! if some others rate that post as postive it will still remain hidden. and there is also another setting which we can specify how many negative ratings can cause a post to get hidden! this is useless too , because i need a way to hide only the overall negative posts . what if the now negative posts , get positive later , or what happens to a post which has 40 rates in total , and only lets say 5 votes are negative , this will cause the whole post to get hidden which is undesirable .

First, thank for this Add-on...

I've made some changes to customize it and want to share them:

4 new images modified by me, in PNG format and valid for any background color, 20x20px and removed the " | ".

Added margin-right: 10px; in the voting layer to not be so attached to the table limit.

Added align="absmiddle" to the properties of the images in the voting layer to adjust the alignment of the text with the image.

Attached new images and product xml file with the changes made by me, the rest is unchanged.

Gotcha...

Just clear those two tables and the fields added to the user profile... if you have a large user set this may take a while.

UPDATE user SET hagoodrank = 0;

hi, anyone know how to show only in the first post (the question) ?

after 4 hours searching...

Actually there's a better way to reduce server load with this...

Open up the XML file and find:

if($this->registry->options['helpans_hidefirst'] AND $this->post['postid'] == $this->thread['firstpostid']){
$show['helpfulanswer'] = false;
$show['rate_helpfulanswer'] = false;
}

Change that to:

if($this->post['postid'] != $this->thread['firstpostid']){
$show['helpfulanswer'] = false;
$show['rate_helpfulanswer'] = false;
}

Now only the first post will show ratings.

If you were trying to make a Q&A forum it would be useful as it re-orders posts by their positive vote count, rather than the linear date.

Not suggested on typical discussion threads however.

There's multiple settings in the mod plus templates for more advanced use.

Sorry, we saw nothing in the download, or the ACP which would help with turning the phrase into a link. Are you speaking about other resources?

If you want to alter the entire phrase, that's in the template.

Can you explain this more? The way I see it is, you're rating individual posts... so if you distort the display order would the conversation/topic at hand not be thrown all out of whack i.e. the post order would be off so when read top to bottom or vice-versa depending on your settings it might not make sense... that's just my thought on it. I do see your point about wanting the most helpful answers at the top, naturally it's quick to find the solution. Perhaps a "This is the correct answer" option "image overlay" on the post an admin deems as such would be best in a situation like this.

Yeah throwing a thread out of whack would just seem like a giant PITA to me. I would go with something like Mike posted above.

That's an option in this addon although you'll want to go further than just enabling it and insure replies are answers, not discussions (best if you have a comment option below reply).

Keep in mind it's a global setting so if you use it in one forum, it will apply anywhere HA is used.

postbit legacy

Does anyone know how to add the "did you find..." sentence in the lower right hand side of the post? No matter where I put the code it always floats to the upper right hand side. I think maybe I need to add something like a div around the code? Thoughts?:confused:

The bit floats... try forcing it around another div.

Hi,

question1: if i delete user and all his posts, will be also his Helpfull answers points he added to other members posts deleted?

question2: what value to add to hide posts with 2 and more negative votes? in "Hide Negative Posts - Count"? .... 0 hides 1+ negatives

question3: are hidden posts visible to google bot / indexable?

idea1: Please allow setting different value for "Hide Negative Posts - Count" and Hide Negative Thread - Count"

idea2: This Mod dont show up on my forum after install, i needed to bulk enable it from main menu: Administration /
Helpful Answers System / Bulk Forum Enabler. It should be noted in first post of this topic... I almost did not found it.

No. His or her posts have nothing to do with his or her posts any more than they have to do with his or her profile, blog comments, etc

2

The addon sets the div as hidden using inline css which engines are likely to pick up on. Whether the follow it or not I don't know.

- Thanks for the idea!

It's noted in bold, larger text that's colored red in the main post and again in the install guide. Twice.

There's a bulk management tool in the admin.

In my case 1 and also 2 hides all posts, even first post. posts which are even non negative rated. I think its a bug and only negative posts should not be visible..? :eek:

You probably mean "Helpful Answer Statistics" accessible from main vbulletin admin menu (http://internetlifeforum.com/admincpilf/helpfulanswers.php).
