Make sure you are viewing his style :) I thought this as well too at first, then I realised I forgot to change the default style, if you installed the guy's style who made the update himself.. then yeah you have to change style.

@ Impulse8 How do i get the header to align central?? As it is at the mo its aligned with the left hand side of the forum, which is strange as the width is set to 100%

Just did a clean fresh install of the default style and then added the yellow version of this one on my test site. I am still getting a group.php page as show by the attached. Does anyone know how to fix this?

so i fired up the FTP and looked at the files i have just uploaded and they was gif

Ok but what stylevars was missed?
Would like to know so I can change it to get something other than white background.

I am guessing it also changes the editgroups page as that is also white background.

If I got both of those fixed then figured out why my input boxes when sending a private message for recipient and title always changes to black on black text I would be perfect.

I agree that this is a nice style especially for a gamer community website but it's tough to keep this thing up when no one can join a group either social or permission because they can't read the info.

There is also a new style called Gamer which yields some nice highlighting and widget bordering but this darkvision beats that out for the other areas.

I have actually been customizing my own to match them up. Would love it if someone with more know how would do that. I think that would be one awesome style.

It seems the latest update changed the text boxes?

The text boxes are all white now, when you put your cursor in them, they turn to the dark grey color. I type in white text. When I click off, the background turns to white, with white text you can't see what you typed?

Great work on this style! We are currently setting up vB 4 on our site. I have a few problems to submit.

Try updating to the latest version. The login color box has been changed. The width of the left bar is likely located in the stylevars for CMS. Check there for anything named margin.

By margins, do you mean the forum width. If so, it is located in the stylevars "Doc_width" and "Doc_margin". Hope this helps.

hi these are the setting that i use when importing a skin

Styles and templates
Download/upload styles
The E:\BAF STUFF\VBulletin\Skins\DarkVision is where the XML is on my comp :)
Sometimes change the display order try to make them alphabetically but not that important

also if you want users to access the skin like if you testing it out
Allow User Selection set to no :)

then press import

This is an issue with vBulletin, not the style. It is pending to be fixed in version 4.0.3.

Does anyone have a or know how to fix the dark version the input box colors are messed up they highlight white and cannot see the text when editing profile...

Also I noticed the theme is sort of bad for the shoutboxe I am using the way the colors highlight of the input box it flashes white to dark grey...

This is an issue with vBulletin, not the style. It is pending to be fixed in version 4.0.3.lol...of course me and maybe about a million other people would like to know why the new vB owners were so hot-to-trot they were willing to release a completely buggy program...

not a bug per se but a question...
I need to change a few colors around and I see that the new stylevars system handles many - but not all things...
There is no stylevar that manages forum category titles. Can you tell us what stylesheet (or other script) does handle this? I had to resort to including a span-tag in the forums manager itself just to modify the title's color but of course that makes the change universal in all styles which frankly sucks in some instances...

It's perhaps asking you to divulge a trade secret but at least it is a fairly minor one :)

Im running 4.0.2, and used the template that I downloaded right before I posted. So I can only assume its the newest one.

I also can't see the tools to change font (bold and so on) they are black too.

I can tell you a workaround for this problem. Go to "Settings" and then "General Settings". Set your editor to "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing"- it will fix your problem.

no mrfarb, that isn't true at all. It's interesting if that actually worked for you though, especially since the WYSIWYG settings you are referring to are not even listed under the General Settings! Alternate universe perhaps? :)

In this case you'll find these *white textbox* issues are all solveable by going to the default darkvision styles folder (00014L) and editing the stylesheet called main_rollup.css. Look for the code that reads:

I should probably say i don't think this is a permanent fix for darkvision itself...but I don't grok the whole thing with changing textbox colors with corresponding font color changes etc...too complicated for me. this fix will make most of your textboxes dark all at once so your people won't get confused by the white-on-white at registration or during posting...

I wouldn't post it if I hadn't already tested it and found it to work.

Also be aware that firebug translates color into hex color values...the actual stylesheet is using rgb colors in this instance...an unnecessary inconsistency in my opinion...just change rgb 255, 255, 255 to #25292C;

almost nothing is ever 100% perfect, but this is such a great style impulse8...a serious design standard and for free! I do hope you get around to hammering out the chinks on it. :)

now I have a question for you...there seem to be a few things that are NOT handled in the stylesheets. In that case, do we look to the xml file itself? That would seem to make the most sense but thought I should verify. I'm hardly an advanced coder - just stumbling my way through all of this cuz it needs to be dealt with.

edit: you might try giving your clientscript folder at least a 755 chmod setting or even 777 and try it again. I seem to recall having trouble setting up the vbulletin_css folder initially as well (that should be placed inside the clientscript folder)...

yes there are some mods that need css to be saved as file and i cant use them because of this bug :(

scrollbar won't appear until text runs beyond the length of the box...
it functions fine...it's purely a cosmetic glitch.

note: the default vb4 style displays ok so it must be something in the darkvision styles...

probably depends on how big a hurry you are in...most of the alpha-numerics can be repaired in stylevars...image files can be identified in properties and copied down, repaired and re-uploaded.
Box number 3 appears to be a vB4 glitch as the image is missing completely. Properties will tell you what it's supposed to be and you can either hunt it down or build something yourself and upload it to the appropriate folder.

this style came out really fast and it's free. a lot of the images are just copies of vB4 defaults that can be modified to suit your taste. For Black images I have been going to a dark grey, like a #666666 or maybe #999999 overlay which can then be seen clearly...

#4 you can tweak in the StyleVars.

Under "Common" They start with "pagination"
Example, the font color is "Font color for pagination", you can also change the color of the shaded box, the border, etc.

xst - this is just plain dumb and wrong...I think this must be it--->

do a *Styles & Templates*-->*Search in Templates* using the term *-48.png* - it shows up in several templates (3 I think)...you should be able to replace the -48.png with .gif to make the switch. I haven't tested this yet so proceed with caution...

...or you could just swap out the images since they are the same size etc...more steps though...you'd need to convert the gif to a png, rename the old png and give that name to the new etc...

personally, I would change the name *forum_new.gif* to *forum_new-48.gif* first and then replace -48.png with -48.gif --> the reason being that the next time you go looking for it you won't have to try to find it by searching for *.gif* which could return a huge number of links...

I'm having a strange issue that im hoping someone might be able to help with, Basically if a thread goes over into a second page we can no longer get access to it it just come up with a forbidden message and the below text.

You don't have permission to access /showthread.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

This is fine if the thread stays to one page however as soon as it goes over onto a second page i get this error?

dgkrob: this is a known issue in vB4 and should be addressed at vbulletin.com - it has nothing to do with the Dark Vision skin. You should be able to test this by looking at what happens to these threads in vBulletin's default skin...if you are getting the same problem, it has nothing to do with the darkvision skin...

I had this problem as well and reported it over there...the more people confirming this will make it more likely to be taken seriously and resolved in future versions. The short-term solution (in my case) was to manually edit out the *...* part of thread titles ending in *...* This isn't a real solution but it's something you can do that appears to work. Your situation may be different.

it's a very peculiar *bug* they have not been able to duplicate in all cases, so there is some resistance to thinking it is a vBulletin bug at all...yet it persists for a few of us where earlier versions never did this. It may have something to do with a recent apache add-on called mod_security2 which has been causing an assortment of problems for vBulletin...

The style images do not affect the css. You can run all three with the same image files.

I was annoyed by this as well. But, I fixed it on my end.

Styles & Templates -> Style Manager -> DarkVision -> Edit Templates -> CSS Templates -> editor.css

The fourth set of styles listed should be:

The REMOVE UPDATE stuff may or may not be there, it's on mine, and I don't know why. But anyway, you'll just be adding another item so it will then look like this:

Best as I can tell, the CSS file never tells it what to do with the top level input textboxes that are NOT in use. So it uses the default.

Edit: I haven't tested this across the whole site yet, but so far on my end it fixes the Search bar on the front page, it fixes the title bars when posting replies in Advanced and it fixes all the boxes when editing profiles. If you find others that it doesn't fix, let me know. Or I will also if I find them, and will tell you what to do to fix it.

Yeah, sorry. You're not technically replacing anything, just adding another tag to what's already there. But, in all honesty, simply replacing the whole thing will still give you the same end result both in code and in the finished output.

I actually found several other things to change too, but unfortunately didn't think to write them down. The ones I remember were.

reset-fonts.css which is under the same category as editor.css

find legend{color:#fff;} and change the fff to eee
that will change the color of the section texts at the bottom of posting a new thread from black to the same color as the rest of the white-ish text on the site.

editor.css find

change the width to 100% to regain the right side border of the edit window in the Post New Thread section.

The rest was finding and changing various items in the StyleVars such as the calendar backgrounds for other months, though that was just a personal desire, not really necesarry. The day of week link color for the main calendars as once again I don't like black text on dark gray background. The page navigation font color was also black on dark gray, so that had to be changed. Also, either something I changed also changed the color of the buttons such as Submit Thread and others across the site. Not sure if that was a change or if I accidentally changed something else. Either way, I had to hunt and peck for the background stylevar to those buttons to re-darken them. I unfortunately don't remember where all the StyleVars were, but they are "mostly" worded properly to find them. Time for example. When dealing with those, just stay on that page and change what you think it is, refresh your forum in another browser tab and see if it changed. If not, set it back to what it was and try another one. :)

edit: Also if you have vBa CMPS the Private Messages link in the User CP is too dark, so I had to find the StyleVar controlling that and changed it to the blue color that the rest of the links were.

I also want to point out that I only tested these changes in FireFox 3.6 and IE 8 so I can't vouch for correctness in other browsers at this time.

So I have vBadvanced CMPS installed using this theme. I've made a bunch of changes/fixes to the layout on my end, but the one thing I can't seem to do is get the Home page (CMPS) to convert from fluid width to fixed width. The left:50%; tag has zero affect. Now, the code for that front page is designed to be wrapped in the template code, so it calls on vb:raw variables such as header and navbar to display the top of the page and the background and such. The question is, does anyone know where to look for the code that is preventing me from setting it to 50% left? I'm hoping it is in CSS somewhere and not a stylevar, because I don't want to apply the fixed-width to the whole site, just that one page.

Alright, turns out the yui upload overlay is mostly unreadable as it pertains to uploading files from your computer. As it uses the same stylevars as the rest of the site, I can't seem to find a happy middle to fit them both, so I will refrain from further meddling and await the update :)

Edit: I love when things come to me after I give up. The control_background stylevar under Common has a gradient image on it which is what was causing the majority of the problems, including all of the problems in the upload overlay. I just removed it, so it's readable, though not quite as "appealing". Easy enough fix for the patch, though.

Yeah, I was able to change the Username to white, but the password was always black. Upgrading to 4.0.3 switched them :) I haven't looked into it yet to get them both white. Will let you know if I get it.

I still had the same problem with "usercp groups join request" (white background) after the last up'.

I fixed it this way :

Step #1 :

I really like the look of this style, but there are some problems, mostly with dark text on dark background or white text on white background.

1. Text in a WYSIWYG textbox is black when no color tags are applied. This makes it hard to read on the dark background and what you see is actually not what you get.

2. Some header text in the options page is black which is hard to read on the dark background.

How would i go about changing the background image. Well changing it is easy. Just replace the image. But i want more specifically to repeat the image. Both x and y.
Anyone point me as to where to go?
Also agree with others. The login area is way too dark. Needs to be bigger and lighter.

Hi there, I love this Theme/Skin and am editing it for a Black/Red colour scheme, how ever I have problems with a couple of elements that I can't find the StyleVars for, I have included a Google Chrome and Internet Explorer 8 screen shot to show what I am talking about.

The problem I have are:
1. White background on Group Description area. Obviously the Font Colour for pretty much the entire site is White/Off White
2. The Headers used by Modules and non-forum sections are still black despite me changing all the one I can find to Mid Dark Red (#990000)
3. The New Nofication Highlight is almost white, and while obvious, is not in keeping also.

I would really appreciate help with these variables as it would be the finishing touches to the best dark theme for vBv4.0.x =)

Hi, i love this skin. After trying out several other ones. I opted for this one due to it's simplicity.

WOW, i am running it and compared it to your images that are left, but i did not see the resemblance other than they are dark. The icons i could not match to yours at all.

I am not the developer of either skin, but for what i was able to compare, i did not see much of a resemblance. This was of course for the 3.6 version. The other looks like the links are all dead.

Im not here to argue or fight. I have no interest in shutting the skin down or anything like that. But the icons, gradients, color scheme, and other css values were copied. I am flattered that people still want to use this old stuff. The only thing I see different is the header image.

Ahh, much better. Now i can see what you are talking about. And no, i was not wanting to start up an argument about anything. I just wanted to check it out, and when i did, i saw no resemblance until you posted the image above.

So what about it, well simple, i think you should get credit for your work now that i do see what you mean. I am sure they will do it now that you have mentioned it, but i think it is something they should have done from the start. Yet again, as you can see for yourself, looks like this skin is pretty much dead.

If you all want to have a try at fixing some of the issues yourself. Try using FIREBUG. It is an addon for firefox that allows you to decode the issues visually and you can test them with out having to actually apply the changes to your board.

The you just copy and past the code into the additional.css file within the style manager of the skin. I have been able to fix almost all the issues.

Might be worth bringing the width to 0 also. Really depends on your style. But for me 0 was better than color change.

The only thing I see similar between this style and those images is they are both dark. This is for 4.x, those are for 3.8. The one has different colors, different styling, it's only similarity is the black. So please stop your big red STOP signs (which I have edited out).
