Right now vBET forum is down. I turn it off since there where issues with server load. Those issues have something common with my hosting provider (still 503 Server overloaded happens even if booth my forums are shut down and doing nothing). So I have to wait for reaction. Till now reactions was not helpful and issue still exists. We have night right now, so I assume that in next 12 hours nothing change in this area.

I know that some of you could wait till the last day to buy vBET in promotion. Because today vBET forum was off we will make promotion 1 week longer after our host provider find out what is wrong with server. Please note that it is not normal way of dealing with promotions - usually end is the end, but we also have unusual situation here and we want to keep our users satisfied.

It is not needed. If you are banned, then Google will set it off very fast after everything will be cleared with theme. Please see here:

I suggest kindly that you change your provider to a robust VPS service like Slicehost or Linode. Since your new forum is not yet very busy, you can get very good VPS hosting for about $20 USD a month and easily upgrade when you grow at the click of a mouse.

Slicehost has great customer service. Linode is more oriented toward platform performance. However, both are recommended by many people. We use both for various tasks, so I'm speaking from experience as a customer of both.

This happens all the time, especially if you don't set up your sitemap parameters properly.

I think you will find people OK with this regarding the free version. However, how do you intend to support people who paid for your software? I don't think they will be very understanding and your business could suffer dramatically by not supporting your customers who paid for your software.

Both of these mods operate on similar principles and technologies and both increase traffic in similar ways.

This mod is more actively supported, more in compliance with Google's TOS for using their API, has more features, is faster, more efficient and won MOTM.

This mod also has URL rewriting features built-in that permits you to remove the dynamic language query string and place it in the URL, which many people (include me) believe it is more SEO friendly.

On the other hand, a number of us also use the other mod because of it's simplicity, and we added the required code for Google's TOS (Google attribution, 15 day or less translation cache clearing, referral headers and optional Google API keys) and better SEO (URL rewrites using Apache mod_rewrite) ourselves because the developer of the other mod could not / would not support us. At one time the developer of the other mod was disappointed with the community and pulled his mod, leaving all of us, even those who donated to his generous work, completely abandoned. NLP-er came to our rescue, in a manner of speaking; and listened to the community and worked very hard to add all the features the community requested. That is one of the main reason's he has such strong support.

So, if you want support, features and are not a developer, and want to be in compliance with Google very clear API Terms and Conditions, I suggest you go with this mod. If you want something more lightweight, smaller footprint, less supported, and not compliant with Google's TOS out-of-the-box, then go with the other mod.

Just another question, would it be ok if I run both mods? I'm guessing not since multiple urls for same language isnt good?

And, what if I uninstall the other mod? those urls will disappear right? (because obviously you don't want them to stay on there) and this mod generates more engine search related results than the other one?

EDIT: And I was looking at the demo and noticed that the urls for each language are yoursite.com/language , so if someone like me, who uses google analytics , how would I go about filtering out these languages so that I can look at the results to see how much visitors this translator is generating me through search engines?

E.g. i have with my forum a no. 1 position with a keyword in my basic language. So I thought it would be nearly the same in other languages and the traffic would explode. But just a very slightly increasing of traffic from foreign countrys.
Does it just takes time to climb in the SERPS or is more realistic, that i won't get a good ranking in foreign language google search?
Just thinking aloud, maybe someone measured that with prof. tools.

So in the Moment about 10-12% of my Visitors came from Google on translated Pages.
About 5-6% of Adsense revenue form translated pages.

I do have some no2 Position (http://www.google.com/search?q=%E3%82%BB%E3%83%90%E3%82%B9%E3%83%81%E3%8 3%A3%E3%83%B3%E3%83%BB%E3%82%B5%E3%83%AB%E3%82%AC% E3%83%89+wiki) in Google for translated pages.
As i used Woopra a followed back Visitors an found a lot of pages with hight search positions. Especially for languages with non Latin Letters and people used to read English. Arabic, Hebrew an Tai.
Woorpa not free anymore so i stop using it.

when i try to update similar threads under maintenance i get stuck with many many many pages....

Great thanks for note - this is really great offer and most probably vBET forum will go there. Just before Christmas I have lot of work, so hope it will handle 2-3 more weeks. Right now I'm running 4 forums (2 real and 2 testing) on one account for shared hosting and this is the issue.

Product - zoints tags.

vBET does not supports Zoints tags and because vBulletin has bullit in tags engine which is working fine with vBET I'm not lanning to support Zoints Tags.

I can still hepl you if it is only matter of your .htaccess file :) but I need more info. First of all what is not found? Translated normal pages or zoints tags translated pages? In first case - you have issue with vBET and first made vBET running for your normal forum pages. In 2nd case give us example of URL for normal and translated zoints tags page - maybe there will be some hint about customizing your .htaccess rules.

1st - make sure you made sitemap integration appropriatelly
2nd - find where do you have such strange URL in your sitemap. I think that it can be some issue. If google see it it have to be somewhere - maybe tool in which you are looking at tour sitemap uses other encoding and you see everything ok and google not. But in vBET 2.x there is no any issues with URL's encoding because url's are translated only in vBET 3.x
3rd - have no other idea right now ;)

vB does not see translated pages during update of similar threads indexes. It is because translated threads are not in your database (cache doesn't count here). vB see only your real threads so if you have issues with re-indexing is not related to vBET. vBET 2.x changes nothing in vBulletin native tables not in schema not in data (vBET 3.x only adds one column in user table for user default language).

It would explain if I got lots of visitors through translated pages but no adsense revenue.
But thats not the problem. The problem is that in despite of indexed pages are increasing so fast but the visitor count is still the same.

But glad to here that transleted pages can also rank well.
Do you got extra backlinks to the translated no2 positions oder does it all come from the "normal" forum backlinks, etc.

All in all its very exciting to see it growing and growing!:D

First big congratulations for win in MOTM , about the bug , it simple to know how it works , it's fine in your site , but in all other sites who use 2.X vBET it have the same issue , go by firefox and choose any other language and then try to visit any other page in the same site you will be redirected to the main site languge , not for the the language you choose .

2 bugs fixed:
- Important fix! - there was issue with sending referrer header which is necessary by Google conditions.
- issue with # in translation links

It is recommended to update to last version, because it appears that 2.3.5 has bug and referal headers wasn't sending appropriate (or not at all to be honest :().

Update as always is very easy - just upload files and import product file :)

First big congratulations for win in MOTM , about the bug , it simple to know how it works , it's fine in your site , but in all other sites who use 2.X vBET it have the same issue , go by firefox and choose any other language and then try to visit any other page in the same site you will be redirected to the main site languge , not for the the language you choose .

This hack would be good if it didn't eat up so much cpu. I had to uninstall it because I had over 200,000+ post and if you multiply that by 52 languages, that would make it 14,000,000 post! That is too much. haha.

Why would you enable 52 languages??

Most smart people with large boards only enable a few languages that generate revenue.

No offense but after using this for 2 weeks, my forums visits count have stayed at the same average based on Google Analytics, it doesn't seem that this is that much helpful.

If you have a smaller site which is not indexed often, it could take much longer.

About 1st issue - it is on TODO list for vBET 2.x, already corrected in vBET 3.x - will be released in 3.3.0

2. vBET do not reduce any properties in a tag. Also vBET do not change any outside links. During translation tracking only links to forum are updated and only href param is changed. Nothing more.

Any suggestions on what is causing it would be appreciated.

Edit: Also, I noticed as a test that whenever a Spanish user selects to translate into Spanish a post written in German from a forum with an English default language, the mod translates German words which look like English into Spanish as if the source language is English, and leaves the non-English-looking German words alone. Can you alter the mod to set the "source language" to "auto" so that Google translations can auto-detect? There may be other boards which use multiple languages.

Edit2: I notice that the page "online.php" ("Currently Active Users") will translate the user names. Also, those error messages listed above don't appear on the forum homepage, but will appear within a forum or a thread.

At this moment blogs translations are not supported and never was tested, because blogs are not native vBulletin functionality and requires paid addon. I'm planning to support blogs translation. At this moment there is also lot of other work :)

The message which you get tells you that your mysql server disabled connection. This can happen if vBET is waiting too long for translation from Google. vBET has build in functionality to reconnect, but as I wrote for blogs it wasn't tested.

vBET is highly configurable - you can enable as many translations as you can. Also if you want to have new traffic you have to be ready to handle it :) We have users with forums having +1 milion pages :D See here:

I will compare source differences in versions to see does it can be correlated or it is just coincidence. I see that connection reestablishing fails - I add this in TODO list. Thanks for notice and hope you will survive some of those mails.

You have to configure your forum directory in vBET options and set appropriate rules in .htaccess file (see first post)

2. vBEt 2.x supports translation from forum language to specified language. vBET 3.x supports multilingual communities also allowing to write messages in any of supported language (also with option of auto-detection)

Which function needs the "Return;" word at the beginning? I can open the file up in WordPad but there's no line numbers given.

Why not simply click on the broken images and look at what is the image path yourself?

Or, you can simply look at the source code of the page in your browser?

The flag images ought to be installed in a subfolder within the main forum folder (assuming your main forum folder is named "forum"), something such as this:

Can you confirm that the folder in red and GIF files exist on your server? (This isn't my mod, of course; I'm just trying to help!)

Which function needs the "Return;" word at the beginning? I can open the file up in WordPad but there's no line numbers given.

I think where I had difficulty was in understanding the .htaccess and "SEO" instructions, as I am unsure what SEO and vBSEO are. Also, I was unsure of whether I had to alter any of my language settings. Our forum is only in English, as we've had issues before with language corruption when testing various language packs installs, so apparently I was okay again without needing anything done.

Many thanks for another wonderful and useful product! I'll confer with my forum board owner on the purchase of the v.3 multi-language product.

dont be at a lost pal. this question is only asked because apparently since install my processes and services, resources in the DB has spiked, and its only due to this mod (apparently) so if anyone else is possible noticing their forum slow down or their resources actually increase a lot due to this mod, than there is a problem.

Have you set the default language within the translator mod's options? That could be one reason.

Translations are not taken form heaven, so some additional resources will be needed, but it is highly optimized and many forums are using this product - even really huge. See here:

Also it is highly configurable - so you can easily start from several languages and see how it works. Remember - you will also get additional traffic using this mod, so your server have to be able to handle it. More languages supported = more additional traffic (mod does nothing for not translated pages, so it works only when you have visitor on translated page).

vBET 2.x will not be more optimized - bug fixing, support and version for vB4 - those are plans about vBET2.x

So the reason of your CPU usage changes is not between vBET versions. More likely you are getting more and more traffic because more pages are indexed. vBET supports only pages generated by vB so if your portal pages are generated by vB then see in options how to place flags in custom place (edit template and add variable there). But... You can have issues with translation tracking for pages outside forum and you have to put there additional .htaccess file (if using SEO links).

What didn't let you go there? If you have issues with plugins - disable those globally. Goggle it - you just have to ad one line in config.php

As you see in error message it is not turned off. Please read PHP manual - maybe it can be set in PHP code - in such case it appears that some mod is turning it on. Find out which one and disable or go to mod author with this issue.

Safe mode is deprecated - shouldn't be used and it is even eliminated in PHP 6.

If you are not using vBSEO you don't need a vbseo php file (or any reference to vbSEO) in your rewrite rules ;D

In fact, if you are not using vBSEO, you more-than-likely, do not need an rewrite rule for your sitemaps.

This addon you can use without the vbseo installed. It`s just generating a sitmap for crawlers.

I do not know if the sitemap generator will work without this entry (last line) in .htaccess

You need this rewrite rule, or something similar, if you want to use the vbseo site map generator.

Frankly speaking, the vbseo_sitemap generator has nothing do to with this mod. You should be asking these questions to the vbseo team.

I know, i`m just affraid of an interaction between the translator .htaccess lines and the sitemap .htaccess lines. I guess the autor of this addon will be also interested if there will be a conflict with the translator and another addon.

Thanks for the awesome addon. I have been using it for quite a while now. However yesterday it just stopped working.

Well whenever you click a flag you get this vbulletin error:


Invalid Forum specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator

Nothing has changed forum wise. I also upgraded to the newest version just to be sure. Ive checked htaccess files, vb enterprise options are config'd right and template edit wise its all fine.

Anyone else come across this problem or know what could be causing this?

Hi,

I have done some further testing and found that your newest version has a bug somewhere along the way that is breaking the apache "DirectoryIndex" directive.

If I remove the lines from the .htaccess for the translator it is back to working without issue, as soon as I add them back, it breaks.

I roled back to 3.7 "vbenterprisetranslator_seo.php" and everything back to working exactly as it should be, translations working and the apache directive working.

Unfortunately, I do not have enough coding skills to even begin to figure out what may be wrong in the code, but something between the 2 releases has caused the apache directive to fail.

So we are back to running 3.7 for the moment, any ideas what might be causing it?

It it worked and suddenly stopped working, then I assume that something was changed in environment. Please re-check everything again. Disable vBET for while and check does issue still exists (if you are using vBSEO) - it can be issue on other level. Change link type for a while to with language param and check does it is working if no redirection is needed. Did you made updates of some other plugins?...

If you want my investigation there I will need access to your forum and FTP (can PM me). If not I will do my best to navigate you hoping that we will find the cause :)

Admin CP is not translated - there is no such need. If you want have your admin CP in different languages then just use vB languages.

What plugin exactly did you try to add (link please) and what was the issue? What vBET has common with that? :)

There is no any difference between vbenterprisetranslator_seo.php in 2.3.8 and 2.3.7...
Also THE ONLY difference between whole vBET 2.3.8 and 2.3.7 it is additional choosing options for forum default language in product file (just checked in Subversion).

Maybe you have broken package, or something goes wrong during upload on FTP...

Anyway - you can stay with 2.3.7 because 2.3.8 gives you nothing additional. I just incidentally miss some supported languages and those couldn't be chosen as forum default language, so I added it in 2.3.8, but you do not need it because your language was there before :)

Google know about translation before - it is even required by TOS to give on page information that it is translated. Translated pages are indexed. userip is not IP of your server but IP of user who send you request.

Not a big deal, of course they would recognize, but would be nice if the 'alt text' worked on hover. There is nothing wrong and you DO have alts - open html source and see it yourself. Just use browser which will show you alt and you will see it after mouse hovering. I.e. Opera ignores, but IE shows.

So everything is fine :) Those are just browser issues.

Yes - it is really weird. But I can do nothing here - alt is in html output. Opera gets crazy on this particular site. Maybe Opera cannot show alt appropriately if image is at the very bottom of page - as I see opera shows alt below image - maybe it is not smart enough to show it under when there is no place below :) I can bet that it will be shown when you move your flags to other place :)

If you give me more info about how CMP is working maybe I will help. Where is your flags place? Does CMP is using same template? If not - set custom flags place and set it in vB template and CMP template. Cannot help you exactly since I do not know CMP :o

Please note that safe_mode is DEPRECATED and it is officially advised to NOT USE it in PHP documentation. Also this mode is even not supported at all in PHP 6 as I remember. So do not regret disabling it - just disable in any way which will work :)

This is not how many resources are taken by vBET - this is how many resources are taken by whole your vBulletin. vbenterprisetranslator_seo.php acts only like Front Controller (more specifically like filter and then vbseo.php acts like front controller). If you open vbenterprisetranslator_seo.php you will see that it only makes few changes in server variables and then includes vbseo.php
Change your link type to language= and remove vBET .htaccess rules, and then you will see that vbenterprisetranslator_seo.php takes no resources at all. Because it doesn't - it is just a filter which grabs all requests by .htaccess that is why you see there ersources used by your whole vBulletin

Also - many of our users use shared hosting without any issues. It all depends on your needs. Please look here for optimization hints.

Old code was given by vBSEO staff and unfortunately it was very weak. There was lot of performance issues. I moved some code outside of the loop and now it is much faster and taking less resources :) Please note that if you already had integrated Sitemap Generator and want to made changes then you have to remove old code added for integration. You will find it between comments:

Hello, now in version 3.8.x installed a mod, the enterprise translator or something, and the truth is that the operation did not like, I uninstalled as indicated by the author of the mod, but since then I have a problem in the sitemaps and her former URL packages sent 20,000 to 20,000, as a result of installing and uninstalling the mod, he appeared a funny thing, like this:
